Something important to know about this concert is that he was playing Paganini's violin, the Guarneri del Gesu "Il Cannone." He was able to use it for a few days before and I believe there was constant security around the instrument.
The Vieuxtemps Guarneri is a violin built by the renowned Italian instrument maker Giuseppe Guarneri around 1741. One of the last built by Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri, this Guarneri del Gesù instrument gained its name after being owned by the Belgian 19th century violinist Henri Vieuxtemps. The instrument was later used by Yehudi Menuhin, Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. Past owners of the instrument have included Sir Isaac Wolfson and Ian Stoutzker.[1]
LOVE when the soloist's cadenza isn't the SAME ONE everyone else plays, and played so excitingly and ornamented with sections from the movement itself; so masterful!
The most beautiful sound that can be created by a violinist. He is bringing every note to life. I am so thankful for being alive and listen to this. Thank you dear Shlomo Mintz. I think your desire for being a pilot came true by playing the violin. I feel like traveling in the whole universe sitting in your plane.❤
This is superb! It's a comfort to know that, 25 years later, classical music performances remain dignified programs that honor great composers, both past and present. Classical music withstands the test of time. 🎵🎵
II. Adagio Espressivo. III. Rondo. Allegro Spirituoso.

@@vartolomei55well, Hadelich is an inimitable violinist with unique style and impeccable technique. I really don’t find anything special about Mintz. Even compared to other violinists of his generation.
The violin world's shortest second movement in a concerto? Haha. I do love this piece though and I personally think Mr Mintz was in his prime here, so: what a treat for us (and him I guess) that he was able to put all of his power, passion, and superb technique into this concerto on Paganini's own *Il Cannone* .
Somebody knows which cadenza it is ? The whole performance is simply amazing ! Shlomo Mintz is definitely one of the greatest violinists ever. Such command and passion ! Bravo maestro !
Why, I wonder, did the mastermind feel it was neccessary to play some quiet and then blast out the next few notes, only to do it again? Expressionism, yes, but what is actually the point? Without lyrics to these, how can a listener know the feelings of why he wrote the music as he did? The anguish of Spring; the monstrousity of a raging storm; or perhaps it's those and showing the balance in the catastrophies of Spring flowers, and sunny, bright blossoms. Or maybe it is just to provoke multiple responses from an audience.
I'm sorry, I listen it after him playing the 2nd Concert by Wienyavsky, which is really the best performance. But Paganini - good, technicaly - not more.

it is trully an existential delight to see how Mintz is 'dreaming' the music when he has a pause and he just listens to the orchestra playing on :)))

Till recently he was still playing fantastically. Of course during Covid no soloists were playing.
