I think GW gives certain rules to factions in large part to make that faction feel like it should. One of the Guards' biggest themes and selling points are it's tanks - it's THE tank faction, really - so it makes perfect sense for them to get a rule that actually makes them far more viable than they were before.

Loving all the little extra details put into the edits of these like the little radios issuing orders on the overhead view or the different attack animations to show who is shooting etc 👌🏻. Plus that subtle chantry music in the background is a nice touch

I love the guard, there is just something about normal dudes fighting all the 40k monstrosities that's really cool. But man the rules.. 17' move and fire as normal.. it's like eldar, but better shooting and defense. Then auto wound on 5 and 6 to hit. I dunno every faction just ignores the basic game rules
Same with votann design philosophy. "Hey, remember the core rules that the game is based around? What if we made a faction that flagrantly ignores them?"
Just a correction for chef: Vehicle orders in the dataslate were 1 target, no bouncing. The buff was for tank commanders to order other vehicles, but they still only had 1 order by default. Most of the time that still just went on the TC itself. Infantry orders bounced the exact same way they do now. So for the infantry it's the effect of the orders that changed and that there's more variety now. And that vehicles actually get to make use of them now properly instead of just shouting at one tank specifically.

I don't think that the order system is so broken as you made out. Sure, a castellan with the warlord trait to order tanks is a cheap alternative to a Tank Commander, but you'll only get one order per turn, per officer that can order tanks. Especially the first couple of turns, you will be getting a lot of extra use out of the orders, but, as was evident in the last couple of turns, The Vanquisher, Chimeras and Leman Russ Battle tank went down in effectiveness without the orders to boost them. Before, guard really struggled to get some decent buffs on their units, one of the reasons Pask and TCs were so beloved and why you almost never saw regular leman russ units. Now we have a couple more units that give reroll 1s or other buffs to CORE innately, but still, if you want to buff a tank, you better bring a TC along to help it.
I'm glad they kept the auto wounding, each army gets a different approach from GW and this is just what they chose to up Guard damage output. Sisters have mimicked dice, Eldar get Fate dice etc. Also Born Soldiers is in lieu of regiment traits. Alot of folks will start trading it out for the flexibility of those. I like it, it's simple and straightforward. I did my first tournaments recently and am very fond of easy to remember armywide rules.

Death Throws only happens to kill enemy models now. Guard Indirect fire does not suffer penalties for lacking LOS.
Guard was in the bottom quarter of codices for at least a couple of years now, I'm okay with our book making us a bit over clocked for a little while.
Will you be OK if they become super nerfed to "pay for their sins" like other Codexes though 😅

Correct, but Indirect Fire imposes a -1BS, so it does stack with a -1 to Hit (2 different things)
