To me, it is more about a family in crisis rather than an alien movie. In an interview, Shyamalan said that the scene where Graham is holding Morgan while he is having an asthma attack is a key moment. Graham telling God "I hate you" represents Graham acknowledging god despite his having lost his faith (I suppose because one doesn't talk to, curse, or reference something that one truly doesn't believe exists). Such good performances all around - especially the kids. You two caught several things on your first viewing that took me a repeat watching to catch.
True. Though, I don't believe in god but do still sometimes revert to my very catholic upbringing when asking for help. Particularly from St. Anthony when something/one is lost. I do believe in _something_ greater but not necessarily a being. Energy might be more accurate for me.

Jyn & Ryl, have you seen "The Sixth Sense"? I don't see it on your playlist. It's M. Night Shyamalan's best film, IMO.
If you haven't seen it, don't let anyone tell you anything about it! Just watch and enjoy!
"Signs" is an excellent suspense thriller. It challenges the audience to question what they really believe when it comes to coincidences and a higher power on Earth. Do things in Life just happen, or do they happen "for a reason"? Are we all subject to random events, or are we all part of a Master Plan?
It is a Movie about things in life happening for a Reason. Bo has a problem drinking water and collects the glasses of it, in the end her problem helps save them from the predator. Her brother has asthma his lungs close off and in the end that saves him. The Preachers brother is a ball player and has a bat in the house to use against the enemy. All these things happen and bring the dad his faith back. IT shows that when we have things that are not the way we want them to be some times they are the best thing in the long run for us.
Good breakdown! Also the reason the brother's even there is because he didn't go to the majors, because he always swung. "Swing away". He told the recruiter, with a look of confused discomfort, "It felt wrong not to swing." Which by the rules of baseball, makes no sense. Merrill is uncomfortable because he knows intellectually that it makes no sense, but he feels compelled to do it anyway for no apparent reason.
Also the author of the book had a dream about what would happen, drew what he saw, and put it in the book without understanding what it had to do with the battle or why it mattered that he publish the image.
For those of us who shall believe, our journey to faith in God is the ultimate battle between good and evil.

There’s also another layer that’s more sci-fi and less religious or mystical in that it’s suggested throughout that the girls of the family have latent precognitive abilities though. Beau seeing things from the future in her dreams, and having “feelings” that warn about the future. The mother saying that Morgan looked exactly the way she dreamed him to look when he was born. Being in a near death state just unlocking that on another level. It doesn’t really account for the water glasses everywhere as more than a coincidence.

The reaction to the alien reveal is exactly what the whole theater respinded back in 2002!! Scared the crap out if everyone!! One of the best setups to a movie scene ever!!

PS you're the first reactors to mention the mom's possible gift of access to all of time at once, or infinite intelligence-- to have that info to pass on. Hadn't thought of that, but it makes perfect sense, though it didn't seem to me like she died to do it. At that moment of extreme stress (it seemed to me) God knew the dad would be thinking of his wife's death and that's how the info was transmitted to him? Interesting to think about. You two always give very thoughtful reactions. Another great one!
I love most of M. Night Shyamalan's movies. I love the fact that there is more there than you realize. You need to watch The Village next!!!!!!! Joaquin Phoenix was in that one too! You guys never miss anything, I love how closely you pay attention!!

I suggest watching Unbreakable, Split, then Glass. In that order. Unbreakable and split are amazing, Glass is okay.
You guys are the only two that I have seen in a "reaction video on the film, SIGNS... to actually "GET IT"! Get the story line...to see signs...to HAVE faith! It isn't a film about aliens...it could have dealt with any subject....the whole point is...."What do you see? Do you see signs? OR do you just see every thing as a coincidence?

I have watched this movie Idk how many times before (I own this movie as a matter of fact, lol) & until you said that, Jyn, I had NEVER noticed that when that alien turned you could see Bo screaming on it's skin due to the camouflage! Lol. Watching it a second time, you can also see Graham's face on it's wrist as it sprays Morgan as well.. So, you guys may have missed that alien when it first appeared on their roof for those few seconds (as I think most of us did), but to immediately catch something like the FACE?!? Way to GO, girl! 😂😂 Big redemption! That was really cool! Lol. I'm so glad I watched this reaction, bc I noticed something new after allllll these watches..❤
The movie is not about aliens. Is about a family coming together. Great reaction.
Signs isn't about aliens, it's about faith. Say what you want about Shyamalan, nearly every film of his has a spiritual or faith dimension. And that's what the movies are really about.
The Aliens resemble demons. And urologist say they are a form of demons. And a reference to the end of the world. Keep faith in God. Your lost love one are looking out for you. Beautiful message.
What you missed (4:34 mark) when the Dad was talking with his daughter and looked out the window before running around the house with his brother was the Dad spotting a large shadow figure that appeared like a tall man standing on the roof. You should go back and check it out. Spooky!

haha, if they came down to my neck of the woods the humidity alone would kill them, if the rain didn't..heck it's flooding right now, so good luck to the aliens, haha, honestly though all aliens would need protective space suits, even if they could magically breathe our mixture of atmosphere..well you can imagine all the things that could kill them, it's a bit like alien covenant and why that crew was so dumb walking around without suits
Seemed more like an act of desperation; we/Earth must’ve had SOMETHING they needed to risk coming to a planet that is primarily water.

4:34 how do people not see this? It’s literally in the centre of the shot. I forget who I watched this movie with when it came out, but they didn’t see it either and I was and still am incredulous. Yes it’s dark but it’s so very right there.
It's because it's dark, and the alien is black against very dark blue. Even when I pause the video at that moment and search for it, I can still barely make it out. I never once saw it when watching the movie without pausing. Maybe you have especially good vision, or color perception or something, but most people I know have trouble seeing it

I think the best "Miracle" is Bo's distaste of water, which turned out to be the alien's demise.

It's a suspenseful Alien movie about Universal signs, family and faith. Leave it to M. Night Shyamalan. Small cast that gave huge performances. I think you would like another movie of his called "Lady in the Water."
This is on my list of movies I randomly saw on tv as a teen and the immediately went out and got the DVD after. Some others would be Hide & Seek (starring Dakota Fanning + Robert DeNiro) and Secret Garden (with Johnny Depp). Weirdly, all of them are Thrillers, although I am generally bad with scary movies and try to avoid them, mostly. If the story is good, however, I cannot resist.
Most have trouble seeing that “fate” and “coincidence” are the same thing. What seems an accident is no accident. There are no accidents. There is no evil or good. No deities needed to worship. None of that. It’s simply a game. Who designed it? Now THAT is a very good question. Everything is the exact same thing. They came for me - and it was terrifying. Left me far more perplexed. But I thank them for their “time” nonetheless. What a wonder this film is. One of M. knights best.

Wow, you two are SHARP. Not really an alien movie so much. More about family, religion, faith, and such. "Contact" is sort of the same concept, as it wrestles with faith and beliefs.
This film is written and directed entirely by Mr. NIGHT Shylaman. He's the one who appears in the movie.

I know that this movie was intended to be about faith instead of just the aliens. That doesn’t stop me from wishing it had just been about the aliens. The alien encounter scenes are some of the most suspenseful of any movie I’ve ever seen. All the parts that let the movie down in the end stem from the faith aspect. How much better would the movie have been if it had been allowed to just exist as a movie about a broken family coming back together during a world changing event? No stupid water plot point, no ‘It’s like it was meant to be’, and the aliens would be allowed to be a much more menacing threat. They would have been taken much more seriously post-viewing, for sure.
The water glasses were meant to be as well.
The wife accident scene was filmed on the night of September 11th 2001. The DVD extra features states this. So their acting is genuine

I remember this movie during tough seasons in my walk with God. Love this movie!
My wife and I were watching this movie at home many years ago. Around the point when the alien hand came out from under the pantry door, the windows in our front door all shattered inwards. Completely freaked my wife out. We turned the movie off and I held her for a while. Ever since then she's refused to watch this movie. We later found out that one of the sprinkler heads was pointed at the door, which was wood with stained glass panels. The wood was expanding over time for months or years and the glass reached it's breaking point in that one moment.

When you live on a farm, in or near a small town, your water is usually well water or water that's shipped in by a large truck and pumped into a cistern or water tank. Chances are you wouldn't be drinking fluoridated or chlorinated water in that scenario/situation. This story was more about the belief in a creator as opposed to aliens. A virtual miracle had to be performed so that a family could move on from the death of a loved one.
Even with Bo's issues with water from the start, and leaving cups of water all over the house.
Several types of raw materials for which species! But I think there are people who want the legacy of their predecessors!
If Beau didn't have her tap water tick then there wouldn't have been glasses of water sitting around everywhere to fall on the alien👍

A movie that was similar to this was Lady in the water. People were different for different reasons. But this movie wasn't received as well as signs. But one extra creepy movie that this director made that no one is reacting to is Devil. Please consider reacting to this. The main reason is I am wondering if you react to it, would it cause a trend of reactions for Devil?
The story in this one is well told and well presented, but Gods, is it dumb when you think about it. So better don't. 😉
The movie is about the signs Graham has to see, not the ones the aliens did, but the signs that will show him nothing is a coincidence.
The mother had to died to save her whole family, they would have all died when the aliens came if she was alive

the symbol in the corn field is what is referred to as "Crop circles" which some people think are created by aliens.
That is Macaulay culkin's little brother he is a bit of a better actor than his brother in my opinion
These have to be the dumbest aliens in the universe. While they're capable of interstellar, possibly even intergalactic or interdimensional travel, they choose as their destination a planet that's like 80% covered with a substance that will hurt them, where it's literally falling from the sky and will form on any surface cold enough to pull it from the air.
Heck, even the atmosphere contains water vapor. Ever been in a cornfield? So humid its like being in a sauna. Stupid, stupid aliens.
The aliens are incidental to the story. It doesn't matter if they are stupid or brilliant. The Grave Threat could have been huge sandworms, or a swarm of ravenous birds. The plot of the movie is the Hess family and how they cope with the unknown and grave danger.
You're right from the standpoint that it seems crazy they would come to Earth, considering their weakness. It's never xplained in the movie, but it could have been an alien species that was desperate to survive so they were willing to risk it possibly. There's really not that many inhabitale planets. We will never really know.

This is the first time I realized all the glasses of water that she said tasted funny throughout the film ended up being placed exactly where they needed to be at the end, to serve a purpose. None of them had been washed and put away. Wow.
