An interesting concept...turning light infantry into modern-day dragoons. This vehicle greatly increases the deployment (LZ) options of airborne / heliborne troops... an ISV, in less than an hour, could cover distances that would take whole day of hard marching on foot (been there, done that). I want one of these for road trips. I used to be an Airborne Infantryman back in my younger life. Jumping out of an airplane almost 3/4 of your body weight and landing then have to walk into combat 10 to 15 miles to make contact. Paratroopers would love this to carry more ammunition to sustain a fight longer and have the mobility to reach an objective or conduct raids behind enemy lines with proper planning and coordination. But I would love to have one for cross country road trips.
Forestry and Fire-Rescue services are gonna love those. Film and TV people will be looking at how many camera mount options that cage offers, and Tom Cruise will be asking if he can jump it back in to the C-130 as the plane dives over a cliff.

@@nobodynoone2500 Not sure I agree with you there. Have you ever seen an electric rig on trail? They are many times more efficient at covering ground than the most efficient diesel. The drawback is on the road at high speeds, not on trail - they are in their element there - torque is linear, and massive, you don't have parasitic parts for extra friction and you don't have to rev-up to get traction. You're not wasting energy at "idle". Compared to a gasser, they go a long ways. They're also safer, (if not pouch battery pack), and they don't leak in case of a rollover.
@@nobodynoone2500 For long expeditions, sure, I'd use diesel. For single-day stealth missions, definitely electric. Albeit in a couple of decades batteries will be so dense, and photovoltaics so efficient, that that's also gonna change.

There's a fold crease horizontally across his chest making it look as though it's a brand new shirt taken off a shelf a minute before the vid. As former military, he should have insisted on ironing it first.... wait.... he was a pilot. They don't know how to op an iron.
AGREED
I have never given a thumbs down to a Jay Leno video before but this one is some heavy NBC/GM/Military Industrial Complex propaganda.
I've never thumbed up a guy who talked $hit about the general!
Your in the Army now. Thanks Jay. 😎👍🇨🇦
Jay's face when he drove through water said it all ...
Was the best part of the whole thing. 😂
Jay's perfect 'having an absolute blast' grin is priceless! 22:50. Gotta get that framed and hang it in the garage somewhere...😄
Your boy on complete salesman mode 😭😭🤣🤣
Very very cool! Thank you to GM for designing and building this to help keep our soldiers safe. And thank you Jay for featuring it on your channel.
This guy just can't stop "selling" just sounds like he's trying to convince himself over and over again that it isn't a big joke and failure lol
well, he needs to make the sale because those gaudy pinky-rings don't come cheap
Why do you say it's a failure?
*His skinny jeans are restricting blood flow back to his coconut*
I wonder if it's based of off the Colorado ZR2?
He reminds me of every other full of crap, boy scout, a hole officer, I ever encountered.
I'm just mad that salesman used the word LETHALITY in a sentence. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 #bars🤣🤣
I'd like to see him market the vaccines 😉
Best Part... Jay Hammers It Into The Water... Gets Soaked...
And Is Grinning From Ear To Ear....
did this guy answer ANY of Jays questions? yap yap yap, yap yap, yap yap sounds like my wife...
Hahaha! Or my ex wife!!
Forestry and Fire-Rescue services are gonna love those. Film and TV people will be looking at how many camera mount options that cage offers, and Tom Cruise will be asking if he can jump it back in to the C-130 as the plane dives over a cliff.
... just answer the question... WHAT design specifications did you meet for this vee-hick-lle??
MIL SPEC "piss away money"
Exactly 1,800 feet or the paint start's peeling.
He literally made Jay go nuts!
That looks like a very fun time! I wish I was riding along with them! I hope GM makes a version for civilians. Thanks Jay and GM for showing us this vehicle! It's interesting to learn about military vehicles I wouldn't normally see. Thank you Jay for always teaching us about vehicles. 🙂
Democrats would call it an assault vehicle and try to ban it because it only comes in one color.
This guy has a real knack for answering simple, yes-or-no questions, with 9,387 words... which don't actually address the question asked.
WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SHOW THE DASH!!!

WTH do you put a capitalize and put a period of every word? Do you know how much ink and paper this is wasting?
Where did you learn this and how long does it take to type a sentence this way? Are you concerned ur keyboard will have a shortened lifespan?
This GM guy is such a tool, why need to oversell the thing, they already got the contract and not many is going to pay $60k for a little Chevy Colorado ZR2
Don't know if they said here but the base price is $177,000.00 which should be criminal and you know there won't be any base models
Right! Buy a used Colorado yank body off it. Build roll cage and add Mustang front clip. Boom done for less than 10k.
@@harryballzack 1979 called, they want their Mustang front clip back.
Aw, the haters are here
@@norsevikingsir4932 I think everybody's disappointed in GM for it's non-innovation... Across the board.
Jay is a honor see you enjoying, driving and show us this marvel of automotive
I hope that the GM execs who think that this is a good idea have to sit in it while driving through IED country.
The military puts out a request with requirements. GM builds a vehicle to meet those requirements. The fact it doesn't protect the occupants from IEDs is not GM's decision.
As the government has demonstrated, people are expendable.
lol you think corporate republicans would ever put themselves or their children in danger lol
Not a problem when robots will be driving them soon
@@MrCarGuy With that particular vehicle, if there's no humans in it, then what's the point?
If you could fold the tubular overhead framing you could stack two or three for air transport.
Cool vehicle jay, thanks for showing us
"We can't show the dashboard" and then they show half the dashboard at 4:25. Good job!
This is a perfect demonstration of what it takes to move up the corporate ladder. Cheer lead like a 15 year old and never - NEVER - answer a question. Be careful Jay, he was treating you like a tool and saw this video as a means to sell himself to his bosses.
Jay was having a blast putting it through its paces....
"well Jay... Its a ,Its a, commercial grade side by side that offers no protection whatsoever !"
Dont worry, we'll buy it !! (and leave the keys and the manuals on the front seat when we bail and leave the entire fleet in our enemies country..)
sound familiar ???
SSgt Dumont! Fantastic. Love it brother. - Jeeta
Thirty years ago I'd be building a miniature one, adding NO STEP stickers then hauling my GI Joes to their next adventure.
That sounded more like an advert for GM.
That's his JOB, idiot!
@@WCM1945 Clearly sarcasm doesn't travel well.
GM needs to make a civilian version for 4x4 off-roading. And one thing, is anyone getting notifications from this channel? I haven't had one notification from Mr. Leno since August.
same! been looking for a fix
What's that grinding sound all throughout the video? Sound like metal-to-metal contact.
Uh-huh. . . Interesting video - and I can see why this man can work with the goverment/miltary - did he ever answer the MPG question? Or did I hear him just go off talking as though he were asked a completly different question. . .
Yeah, that's exactly where I've paused the video to comment and decide if I'm going to watch any more. Maybe I'll fast-forward through Mr. GM's rambling. He DOES eventually shut up, right?
@@michaelhoward142 -- you see, it's about speed, and we have designed this to military specs and can have this delivered in a short time, beause 90% of this vehicle is from the GM parts bin. . . Watch the video dude. He said about 20mpg
HE SAID 20 MPG.
@@WCM1945 thanks --
Wow that guy did a great job of sticking to his talking points and not answering many questions.
How much do you think we're paying for a pickup with no body? I'm guessing Lambo money?
$450,000 each unit so far.
That way GM can sell them the doors and roofs later
Way too much. Give cleetus an old hilux, some welding equipment, and he can make you a better truck for 10k or less.
Now THIS! is the proper ISV video, out with the GM dork. 🙂
I can just hear this guy. "Yes sir general, this is the replacement for the Black Hawk Helicopter we have been working on for the last 9 months. Cheaper to buy, gets better gas mileage, no need for trained pilots, or a crew chief. We will just put 9 brave soles into this beast and drive right on into battle." Would have been great in SE Asia going on patrol in this thing. No need to repel through a jungle canopy, just drive right in. I guess in the middle east the top rope mesh is to catch the body parts after an IED takes this thing for a ride. These guys at GM must have some really good mil spec weed.
The 'grille' looks like an Aston Martin... or a Ford Fusion...🤔 Slick rig though. I'd love to see it genuinely off-road and specs. Though I know, love, and respect the need for secrecy and non-disclosure. Thanks GM! Thanks Jay!
“Made to GM standards”. Military is fkd.
🤣🤣
yep
That's exactly what I thought too when I heard that
" Generic Motors " LOL.
All that are complaining , Jay is just showing us what is going on , not a normal show but very interesting to see ..... From another MA guy :) :) :)
Interesting vehicle. There seems to be a lot of repeated comments (reuse of GM commercial parts, investment by GM, etc) which could’ve been edited to make this more relevant. Came across more like a commercial for GM Defence.
Its rare to hear someone talk so much and say so little . Is the GM guy a politician too ? Great work by Jay as usual !
This is such a marketing guy... It gets irritating
I've seen the results of dropped 105 How. when one of the parachute straps failed. It landed upside down and did some damage.
User manuals are also written in Pashto so the taliban will know how to operate it effectively
Hence the "no key required - push button start"
@@aussie2uGA not to mention that the bedsheets the Taliban wear don’t have pockets to carry around keys
It was a great interview under pressure.
Can't wait to see the electric version.
I hope they build a lot of charging stations in the middle of the battlefield so our guys can come safe home 🤡
You mean there are gas stations in the jungle, desert and whatnot, just waiting for the troops? WHoa, never knew that.
@@WI5EBLOOD You can airdrop gas cans easily. Batteries? lol. nevermind the waste. Not to mention ghas has about 100 times the energy density (power pr lb) as batteries do.
@@nobodynoone2500 OH, the energy density means nothing when your engine wastes up to 80% of that energy on heat alone.
@@nobodynoone2500 For long expeditions, sure, I'd use diesel. For single-day stealth missions, definitely electric. Albeit in a couple of decades batteries will be so dense, and photovoltaics so efficient, that that's also gonna change.
It's designed to be lower cost rapid assault land vehicle. You can see that military wants something closer to using off the shelf parts to make it more affordable and faster to keep in action. This is the reason why when the GM PR guy kept talking about the similar nature to the Colorado truck.
How many times can someone say “We are just leveraging the investment we made…”? Ask this guy.
C’mon dude, you already got the contract! The Program Executive Office (PEO), yep the term you threw out there, knows you are trying to get more vehicles sold. The regular audience of this show really doesn’t care.
And by the way, those “oh, shoot” handles must have come out of my computer backpack.
Since the GM Defence guy mentioned the safety is on par with NASCAR, I was wondering if HANS devices are used to avoid brain injuries in the event of collisions, or would it restrict the squads ability to fight at a moment's notice?
I think Ranger Armor offers some protection against Brain Dammage.
@@markplott4820, yes but HANS devices protect against whiplash injuries (broken neck e.g.) that Ranger Armor would not. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HANS_device
5:33 The question was about mileage requirements. Good grief.
The lack of an answer is the answer - it burns a lot of fuel compared to civilian vehicles. But military vehicles always do.
