an inch is a unit of length in a system measurement, one inch is equivalent to 2.54 cm, so 7 inches is 17.78 cm, but I think most of the rulers have the mark of every inch

While a books' size can vary, the edges of the paper should all be the same. So I think as long as its four by four inches (ten by ten cm) you'll be fine.
