Usually I find your videos very clear, even when the technical aspect of construction is challenging - but the "bring the contrasting color to the front" part is virtually incomprehensible. Would be so so helpful to see it broken down into slower parts, or shown from multiple angles as you do in other videos with confusing steps!
I do appreciate your videos on the whole very much.
Showing it from behind would be incredibly helpful. I saw someone comment, do it from behind, so I had to visualise it with the tiny glimpse from the behind he gives. It is much easier from behind.
That was the most stressful origami I've ever done... Made me feel like an idiot but I got it eventually!
How!
Yeah, but I’ve just made my second now and it’s easier
Really? I mean some of the folds are a bit hard but it isn't that hard
@@rafaelfreire3792 my son is 9years old and after 15min he finished it. after our soccerseesion he folded it again... just awesome this guy :) and jo nanakashima as well :)
thanks for all the input. my son is just glad about your channel :)
I thought the short duration of the video would make the origami tutorial easier, it turned out that I made a mistake😆
Hi guys! If you want to suggest what model I should create next, please leave a comment on my latest video!
This was basically my thoughts while I was watching the video;
"Oh, that looks easy. That's going to be so cool to have a origami cat bookmark!"
Then I came to 3.40 or something, and was like;
"Oh, okay... I'm lost. How did that happen!?"
I have watched that part a couple times now, and I'm still lost... I just don't think I'm supposed to ever fold anything that looks like a cat, 'cause I'm always getting lost at the origami cat, argh!
Did you try coloring your paper in two different colors? (Coloring 100 centimeters takes SO long...)
Me too.
It looks very difficult in the tutorial
Not sure if this will help but u see where that person's left thumb is?(your perspective) it has a little hump-corner looking thing all u got to do Is flip that around. To do that put your thumb there and add pressure (pushing it backwards). Then continue doing that all the way where the line is
I'm lost there too! I've tried it so many times .... just can't get it.
I got it on the left side and missed up on the right but when I tried to put it back so I can try again I accidentally did it
At first I was convinced this is gonna take me just a while until I got to the ear part that just beated me. I finally finished it after hard work and I am really proud.
Never give up. Inspirational. :3
After leaving it inside the book for a while, the creases will set :)
i like origami you......
Thnx
Genius
3:37 that part where you fold back to change the color is very frustrating I can't really do it. :/
I know right that step is so hard. He should move his f***ing fingers
+Beatrix Pendragon Yeah it was a pretty tough part, it took me about 10 minutes, and succeeding on one side didn't help for the other side somehow ahah
+Claymoric Blockdude Thanks so much. I DID IT!!!
+Beatrix Pendragon I've tried a lot of times but now I understand what he did, it was frustrating.
Mother Base Lunch Lady at first i was thinking she does it with *MAGIC* XD
3:37 was pretty hard, but I managed to do it after a lot of tries. Thank you so much! This turned out really good.
Please explain how you did it ...
Literally, I tried like 10 times.
@@stuwey3281 please explain to me as well
EXPLAAAAIN
3:44 can you see the square next to his thumbs? Try to fold it to the right, inward the cat
I'm raging so hard on the ears 😂 He does it so simply it breaks my heart😢 Idk anymore😁
Priscila Sandoval it was so easy
Well the first time it was hard then I got used to it
No its not that he does it simply you could to if he would fuckin show us and not just move on to the next step
Same
@@suddenlystupid3329 He showed it to us very clearly. His fingertips weren’t in the way of the paper and creases at all. Try slowing down the video and paying more attention to which folds of paper he puts pressure on and which creases fold what way. It’ll make a bit more sense that way.
@TheKingkaiza
bring the layer from behind to the front of the model
An easy way to understand this step: try to make it without unfold anything else (it is possible but you'll have to force it a little and the paper may get damaged)
I felt HUGE RELIEF when I finally managed to somehow fold the first ear :')
Without fail I always reach a step on his videos where I just can't figure out what the heck he's doing. I don't have this problem with anyone else's videos and it's pretty frustrating because I love these designs.
same
You make it look like a 10 min video.
Took forever.
I know right
+Dorothy Uranga For me it was 10 min.
AlphaDraconic Did you try the elephant?
I've always loved this book mark since a friend gave it to me a few years back and I asked her to teach me how to make it. Then I found the video just to watch the source. Now I mostly read e-books because I move a lot so I can't really have such heavy and space-taking things like physical books, plus can't always find the books in the languages I want at bookstores. Easier when they are digital. But I still read physical books whenever I can. Love the smell of the pages and I remembered this bookmark so I decided to find this video again. What makes this bookmark especially cute is that when you close the book, the cat ears stick out lol
4 years later. Someone recommended me a book and lent me their copy, so I'm back to refresh my memory again.
How do you bring the flap to the front too change colour. Your instructions are virtually impossible to follow! Please make it easier. Break it down for beginners!
Jason Li check the previous comments. where he folds the ear in and then back and god knows what else, I get totally confused. Tried it twice and ended up tearing the ear completely off one time and the other my cat was just looking like a pillar of pink paper. So. :( I probably just suck at it.
my tip is .. do it from behind .. dont look it from the front .. just bend the cat over ( no pon intended ) .. and fold it from behind .. that was really easy for me after tryin like 20 min with the same shiit .. i hope u make it friend .. good luck! ~
Thats where I said "Frick I'm screwed"
Maybe you are like Me in that it is way to simple for your lofty mind.
Start with Bigger paper because miniature Origami is way harder.
Make a big one then make a little smaller one until you got one the size of a grain of Mustard Seed. The First Origami I sculpted since I was a Little was The Hornet And Miniatures from Tin Foil. I set out to Draw When I snapped And became Origami Kamikaze^!!^ The kind of paper you use makes a huge difference and so does the size. Freezer Wax Paper works fabulous. You will have many problems if you are trying to fold Origami with cheap colored construction paper.
The main thing is *this is supposed to be fun* , so take your time!
If you get frustrated, take a break, grab a cup of coffee or something and relax a little minute because there is no need to be in a hurry.
Do not use Tin Foil unless you have Patience And Endurance.
Remember: Patience is a Virtue
ミー!
Or its more likely because the instructions are incredibly unclear as fuck as he does several motions at once with his fingers completely obscured in a way that makes it impossible to follow. I finally managed it by screwing around myself, the video was not helpful a fucking tall.
I'm going to break my computer I'm so mad at 3:36

How in the world do you do the fold on the ears near 4:40, how?? May you please show in a specific and a helpful hint??
me too having this problem :( it's very tough
me too that seems impossible
Damian Arellano Me too
Ok I don’t think that my explanation is correct but I Guess you just gotta fold it and then push it in ?
I did it, but i dont rlly know how
@BrenoxJr ensino modelos de vários origamistas, no caso deste vídeo é criação minha
Amazing model, it's a relatively short video but comes out with the cutest design, and is, as usual, super compact with all folds neatly tucked away
I can't seem to do whatever is at 3:40 It's so confusing and hard to make
I know it's so fustrating
I thought I was the only who had problem at the 3 minute part. as beautiful as it is, I think this tutorial kind of fails. I think the maker should show each movement one step at a time as there are a lot of creases in that area that can be confusing.
At 3:36, I really don't understand how you did that...I was gonna make this as a gift to one of my friends :(
Es muy sensillo , solo algunos se dan cuenta ,me refiero a los cracks del origami ,como yo ,a mi me salio hermoso claro q utilise un par de ayuditas pero lo logre
i can't do step at 4:38 :( . how do you do it ?
How the hell do you do that ear??? At 4:32 OMG IM ABOUT TO BREAK MY PHONE
It would help a lot if you slowly went though each step, or used a bigger piece of paper, because your fingers were in the way for most of the video so now I have a half folded cat because I couldn't see what you were doing
@CrazyEnora231 I added a link on the video description
Yay. Thank you so much for these insteuctions. My first one was crumpled a bit and wrinkled, but the second time I did it, it was so much better.
I DID IT!?!?! I FINALLY DID IT!!!! I'VE WASTED 2 HOURS BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!?!?! * Cries because of happiness *
@@harveyreynon3768 No offense, but I made it in 20 minutes
Thank you thank you thank you for creating this adorable bookmark!!! I'm very fond of reading, I love cats and I started folding origami about a year and a half... so this is perfect for me! I had a lot of trouble in the folding back part, then with the ears and the narrowing the neck part... But with patience, I was finally able to make it!
I'm glad you like it! :D
dude your tutorials are awesome but just imagine how much better it'd be if you talked us through it.
Thank you for sharing this!!
I wrote eyes, mouth and wiskers on it and now I have cute cats for my books :)
Simplemente no logro entender que hace en el minuto 3:36 :/
lo abre lo dobla hacia adentro luego pone la cabeza del gato encima del doblez
For those of you raging at 3:47
Just pause it, resume, pause, watch how he folds it and compare your model to his.
+Nguyen Vincent Just watch the other one on that part
Nguyen Vincent it's actually pretty easy to do it.
Nguyen Vincent I can't do ot
Nguyen Vincent it

I love this tutorial! It was easy to follow and the result is really cute! Some parts were a little tricky but I blame that on my lack of skill, not this tutorial. Thank you!
are we watching the same video
he's a genious for making this up. I can't even keep up with the origami tutorial... I remember I made it when i was 9, and now i have no idea how I managed to do that. wow this guy is really talented...
got stuck on the inverting colours thingy
Ok so I'm at 4:00 and what is he telling me to do because I have tried like 15 times and I don't know what I'm doing wrong
Purple Swablu maybe i he was in foucus and not out of shot!
+Purple Swablu same here!!!!! I've tried 30 times tanks to that i accidentally unfolded everything!
I still have my unfinished cat origami after 5 months so if someone can explain I can finish it lol.
+Purple Swablu what I can tell you (and for what I understand) is that he's folding to the front side
it may be hard but if you look closely you could do it

though this comment is late
you make it look so easy! (just for the record, I'm not a beginer saying this. I've memorized ancient dragon, and folded it many times, but I admire his technique
First time I tried this I just got horribly confused. The second time I realised this is actually quite a simple origami, but the instructions could be clearer. Generally though Jo's videos are really great. It helped to do this with tissue foil paper and a little origami scoring tool to poke the reserved corners and folds back into shape - really helpful!
hasta el minuto 3.50 iba bien, pero ese paso de invertir el color no me sale...qué frustración!!
We dont understand what are u saying
NIGHTINGALE 88 she said to 3,50 minutes was doing well, but that step to reverse the color does not leave me ... how frustrating
*How the heck you did the freaking ears!!!!*
*I'm so confused*
(*dies*)
Thank you so much! I had been folding origami for 2 months and just left it. After a year later i needed a bookmark so i went to youtube. I got really frustrated because every video was so childish and dumb looking. Then suddenly i knew i was searching at wrong place so i searched "jo nakshima bookmark". I found exactly what i wanted. What i am trying to say is i think your videos are just on that fine balance. Not so easy. Not so hard. The origami that i can be proud of and beautiful. The origami which includes few tricky parts but not extremely hard. For those who are feeling helpless when those parts occur - He is folding it right in front of you. You can copy it. After 10 or 20 try you will figure it out. Once you got it you can fold every single origami in this channel. And be a little cocky like me because your friends will struggle to fold it(i am sure that none of them WILL fold it). I didn't find it hard. Of course tricky but not hard. He uses this same trick over and over agian but folds cool things. And again THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thank you very much for your comment! :D
There may be lots of hater comments or swearing or computer breaking comments but not from me.
I thought it was easy and i was very happy with the end result.
I will be with you're channel all the way!
Just keep folding your way to victory!!!
Oh, and congrats on *one million* subscribers!!!!!
-A little origami girl
Stop calling his videos -shit- he does these videos to help *you* ! He already knows how to make the model
So he does not have to make the videos for himself! He makes them for *YOU* !!!
AA At least some else is taking this positively!!! I totally agree with you. I too wish ppl would know how to be patient...
ill just stick to making paper cranes..

Nice! I've never done any origami before but I was able to make this. I had to watch a couple parts a few times, but I got it. The next one will be easier.
no matter how many times I rewatch it I can't get it
I really don't get the wrap around a layer.
I gat it
Really nice model Jo - thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed making the bookmark. :D It's soooooo cute!
remember when His creations were simple?

Hi! I have trouble making the part that begins on minute 3:40. I have tried several times and I still cannot do this part. Could you please do it slower? Perhaps this way I can do it. Thanks alot!
i think, the video-speed is ok, i can make it after seen the step
Same! I am having trouble at 3:49 please make it slower or some other way please. Thank you;)
You can change the video-speed pressing on the settings (second icon on the right of the bottom of the screen).
No I couldn't do it either. I bought origami paper it's very thin. Tears easily. I've tried this about 7 times. I can't do it at 3:31 when it says wrap around from behind. It doesn't make sense. I can't follow him. He should make better videos. It's not you. I've made a lot of origami. I'm leaving this video and giving up it's too frustrated. Every time I get to 3:31 and wrap around from behind my paper tears when I try.
it gave me a hard time at first too, try enumirating the 3 folds that appear, it helped me a lot and it worked :)
I had some problems with the valley-folds but I finished it!! :D It's one of my all time favorites! :)
its weird, this guy is the best at origami on youtube but his channel is just his name, whereas others are "origami master" or something xD
THIS IS SO CUTE!!
This ain't easy
If you like origami, don't do this one, this one will break you.
No it doesn't, you just have to be relaxed and don't give up because of failure
@@leanderl.5548 story of my life
I did it an I’m 10
Love the diagrams with the video. Thanks so much!
Thank you very much! It took me two tries to make a decent neko bookmark but it works! Now I have my own cute neko as a bookmark. =]
Very confusing sometimes your hand covers the whole camera i barely see anything
How does it work on 3.49?? Makes no sense. A little more information... Maybe some steps... Seriously confusing
essentially you inverse the last couple of folds you made, watch it a couple of times over if that helps. just remember to crease those folds really neatly and strongly and they'll inverse relatively easily.
:
3:36 I'm going to explain why this step is so difficult for everybody: 1° you turn the whole figure, while you are folding it at the same time 2°to top it off you do it fast being that it is the part that suddenly becomes more difficult, 3° besides it starts to look blurry and out of camera, no doubt, for an origami tutorial tentatively for beginners, (because otherwise I guess it wouldn't be on youtube unless it was to show off), it was super frustrating, but I didn't give up, I got really angry and wanted to destroy the universe because I wanted to make a cute kitty, but it was worth it.
P.S.: I love the loog of your channel and you deserve all the success in the world, please, make tutorials designed to teach didactically.
I love oragami ...I did one of my first oral reports on it in grammar school and recieved an A. That was 34 yrs ago and no one including the teacher knew what it was. I did very basic shapes and had the class follow along...everyone was tgrilled with their creations!
I make a lot of complex origami and this was too hard to do even with all of the stuff I make daily.
i dont get it in 3:37😢😢😢
5:03 My model does lie flat. I don't need to do the squash fold, where did I go wrong? I know this doesn't affect the end result much, but I've done it twice now and both turned out like this.
Same. My model also lie flat
Haha same
The Origami Neko bookmark is sooooooooo Kawai! I want to make one, too! Origato Gozaimasu for sharing your video!
Clicked on an origami tutorial video, found some rocket science mechanism here :|
I can't finish this origami, all about that fu**** fold at 3:40! And in love cats so much...:(
@Supergurl829 yes, and we live on the same city
I think I just died of cuteness xWx I'm defiantly going to have a crack at this!
fix your angles. You're fingers get in the way a lot and the camera loses focus. Makes certain folds very difficult to understand.
3:47 is impossible!!
Ericat what? This is easy. Try making something like his devil dragon v2
Had a really hard time folding that colour from the back to the front but once I accidentally managed to put one side in the right place it worked. Now I've done this whole thing and just found out that I either missed a step completely or I messed up. The cat head is stuck to the body tightly with no way to nicely unfold it. I've folded dinosaurs, birds, bugs, dogs, all kinds of flowers, and this flat cat just got the better of me...
All ya people talking how 03:36 is and I here got stuck at 02:16. I had to improvise so much but it kinda looks like a cat. I'm kinda proud since this is the first time I ever did some challenging origami. All I ever made were butterflys, since it's really easy.
this made me so mad when i did it lol.
What the hello this is so frickin confusing
Awesome tutorial! I need this paper! But I'm having difficulty navigating the page (don't know Spanish). I would really love and greatly appreciate a link to a multi color pack of this kind of paper. ❤
Very cute bookmark, Thank you for sharing!
This isn't simple. AT ALL!
What kind of paper is he using for origami ? The normal A4 size sheet just seems to be too thick for all those complex origami designs .
Achei suuper difícil a parte em 3:36, para entender o que fazer e a orelha também, e depois a parte de esconder os ombrinhos também... Mas consegui!! Ameei!!
@Mist3030 sorry, I don't sell origami... but this one is easy to make
I FINALLY got the color change part when I stopped trying to mimic his moves. I looked at what the goal was, then stopped following his video. This was after watching it over & over and failing over & over.
Thank you very much Nakashima I understood this very well and gave this bookmark to many of my friends and they loved it
😃😃😃
Thanks for the tutorial. This is easy to make.
After 3 days finally I do it ! it's so hard but I love it :'D
finishing this was so rewarding!! I almost rage quitted at 3:47, but i'm glad i didn't give up! Great work, man!
Oh come on man why are you all complaining about him

● he have made a whole video on the tutorial
●he has also showed the diagram

Hey there! I also had a BIG problem at this part. The video wasn't that clear on this step. I failed the first couple of times, but I went and followed his every hand gesture like how he presses at some points. I fiddled with it and after a few tries, it worked :D Keep Trying!
Yay! I did it! ^^ This tutorial is really great :)
Mmm, best bookmark design ever!.
@Snowlight6071 welcome ;)
Very simple, but veeery amazing!

Please explain the part with the cat ears. I tried but it turned out exactly the same as when I first folded it. It's confusing me how it folds in.
