Sibbo deserves more credit and respect than he has received I think. He always fought with great tenacity and always took the fight to his opponent. He gave his all against Hagler and as you see here, he gave Minter a spanking. He's a thoroughly decent, humble bloke too.

The BBC refused to show this fight as Minter had sponsorship from DAF trucks on his trunks.
Minter was a hero and his two fights against Antuofermo were epic. He won the title in Las Vegas over 15 rounds and defied all of the odds of a British fighter winning a title on American soil.
He retired Antuofermo on cuts at the Wembley rematch, after boxing beautifully.
It all began to unravel when he was destroyed by Hagler, and he was never the same fighter again. A sad loss to the sport when he passed away in 2020.

A man who knows his boxing, I knew all that but was learnt through reading and the god awful mission to find the fights. A chap who I hold a boxing brain is Terry from the back of boxing monthly from Blackpool. Got so many fights from him, Terry has the most amazing boxing collection.

    I was a Minter fan.
My father in law and his brother ran a boxing gym in South London. They had tickets to see Minter vs some unknown American bloke called Marvin Hagler.
I didn't bother going, because Minter would win easily.
Hahahahahaha. How wrong could I be????
RIP to all the great boxers who passed away recently.

I have known Tony Sibson from the first night he walked into our amateur boxing club Belgrave Checketts. I still see Tony occasionally, and he hasn't changed one bit, still the same easy going humble guy he was back then. I used to spar Tony and even back then if he caught you with that left hook, you really felt it. All the best Tony.

It's amazing to think they had boxing back in old times. I read somewhere that fights could go on for up to 40 rounds. So there was more incentive to get an early KO so they could catch up on the books that had been released that day.

sibson was far too strong for minter... minter only got to be a champion due to being southpaw, he was good but never realy world champion class. sibson sparked him out and hagler just demolished him.. he got the name boom boom from amatuer days shouting boom every time he chucked a punch..... it was a terribkle shame that sibson jsut froze in front of hagler... if hagler had got a 100% sibson hagler would of lost his title... sibbo was a great middle weight although a touch short.... i realy liked tony sibson a lot...... far too many of todays pundits forget about sibson, just because he didnt get that title they wrote him off.. he was better than most champions in the last 10 years.. canelo would not of liked to fight sibson... and he would of destroyed the likes of eubank jr and BJ saunders and groves and i think froch would of been done by him too..... calzaghe would of been too fast for sibson, but calzaghe would of definitely got hurt by him.

@@keithcampbell6806 Sibson was the better boxer? Anyone who knows what they're talking about would laugh at this like i am. Sibson was a basic puncher with very little technical skill. Minter was way beyond that and clearly vastly superior in the art of boxing. You only need a few of their fights to see this.
Minter was lucky to win a world title? Through the fact he cut very easily as he had thin skin. But not because of him lacking the actual capabilities. Minter was a world champion. Sibson wasn't.
