I have a 10g in my apartment I want a bigger tank but have to wait till we move which could still be a few more years. In my 10g I have a kuhli loach (1), nerite snail, cherry barb (1), Colored Skirt Tetra (aka ghost tetras cause you can see thru them)x3, what I believe to be sunset cobra round tail guppy (2), and pest snails who I use to hate but man do they keep my tank in awesome condition! Are there any other puffers besides the pea puffer that would be okay in a 10 gallon tank? I really want a pufferfishhhh!
My Pea Puffers lived for almost 4yrs, I had them on my desk, they would watch the monitor and go mental when I'd sit at my desk, as a dog would do when you come home from work, amazing little fish.
I had a colony of pea puffer in my first 10 gallon, and those little boogers were hilarious to watch dart in and out of the micro sword clump in the tank center. They'd pop out and chase eachother around the tank before darting back inside their leafy green house. Definitely a good species full of character, and they definitely can recognize you when you come over to watch them for a bit; mine would swim to the front of the tank for me, but hid from my brother.
ive seen video of them in the wild in a stream and there was loads like im talkin 50 or more shoaling together so i guess as long as you have enough room for them to establish their own territories they should be fine i only have 3 in a 10 gallon got 3 cos that was the deal in store but mine get along fine i have a huge clump of moss on wood in middle of tank and two long grass plants at the front on each side
Sound advice on the pea puffers. My experience is that they feel safer in a group of 6+, as long as they each have their own hiding spot (densely planted tank is optimal). Because they naturally scour the substrate/plants for snails and food, they don't need a lot of swimming-space, only enough hiding spots to get out of the line of sight from eachother.
When I first bought my pea puffers I will have to admit I knew very little about them but I got 3 and put them in a community tank, I’ve had little to no problems with any of them and I’m pretty sure one of them is in love with my celestial Perl danios cause it just follows it around and swims beside it all the time

I have 3 female pea puffers in a 6 gallon planted tank, and they’re doing great! I have fluval U1 baffled with a intake sponge to reduce the current. I was lucky enough with my local fish store having fully grown puffers, so I could pick the females.
My pea puffer was so cute! He was in a five originally (and happy as can be) and soon got upgraded to my 20 community and then my 55 community tank, as I used him to clean up my pest snails. The most peaceful fish I've ever owned!

Hey Cory! Thanks for the 10 gallon ideas! I am looking for options to try with my 125 gallon tank. I have 3 orandas in it now with a sand substrate and some plants. I keep the temp around 74 degrees. I would like to add some other tank mates if possible. Any suggestions?
I haven't seen those at my LFS yet. I may have to travel to another city to find them. I love corydoras but I've received mixed information. What do you think about them with orandas? I would love to see more videos about how to improve my large oranda tank. Thanks!
Great video I have some Corrydoras and 5 cherry barbs growing out in a 10gal planted at the moment, cant get enough of corydoras. Defently a fish I think I will never stop keeping. Great video Cory hope China is awesome. :) have a great one mate.
I like the simple setup. You setting in front of the camera talking directly into the camera. Feels personal like you are talking directly to me. You have always been good at talking to people instead of at people. Many RUclips content makers talk at people and it can come off a little high and mighty. I get the sensation I'm at Aquarium Co-Op getting advice directly from you. p.s. nothing wrong with your more elaborate highly editing videos I just like this type a little more. This is what you were doing when I found you on RUclips. I hope this helps. Cheers.
Hi, Cory! I have a Betta & some White Cloud Mountain Minnows in my planted 10 gallon. It's right next to my chair & fun to watch. Thanks for all of your helpful info!
This actually isn't good stocking, as white clouds are cold water fish and betta are warm water fish. If you heat it the clouds will be unhappy, if you don't have a heater the betta will be unhappy.
So how about you add some Snails or even some Corydoras? My Betta lives with both & they all do amazingly well. You just have to pick the right tank mates, most Bettas can live safely with other fish but their are always a few who can't. Cory keeps all his Bettas in community tanks at the shop as well
My 10 gal consists of -African Knifefish (brown knife fish) -Upside-down catfish -2 golden barbs (SUPER pretty) -2 cherry barbs -2 harlequin rasboras Very active and very friendly tank with a WIDE spectrum of fish sizes (knife fish is 5x bigger than the barbs)
I love your videos. The information you provided for every different fish is great. However, I how about more pics of the tank and talk over that. Keep up the great work
Great video, love the ideas, especially the pipefish. I have a question regarding that, which might be a candidate for a video, or just a comment: for someone with limited space--like an apartment dweller, who is doing a pipefish 10 gallon--how would you go about setting up a daphnia culture JUST for feeding the pipefish tank?
I have 3 pea puffers in a 10 gallon. Mine eat blood worms and snails (rams horn, pond snails). I also use an undergravel filter, with some moss and sagg. I've had them for10 or 11 months. Every time I come home they come to the side of the tank. I swear they smile. Love them.

I missed working with the pipe fish at the OKC Zoo. We have a dedicated tank just for them. I can say they are fun to watch and something out of the box to talk about when you have guests.
I thought I'd keep it simple for my first 10 gallon tank (previously had a 30 gal community tank). Going to try some ember tetras and then when the time is right - some cherry shrimp. Sound good?!?
I have a question. Im thinking about getting a pea Puffer Tank. The Problem is about the feeding... when im on vacation how can i feed them? Is it enough to just put many snails in the tank before you leave? Also do they attack big snails like mystery snails?
Hi Cory Do you know which fresh water dechlorinator would be effective to treat for bleach. I recently found out that the municipal water works are using bleach as its an easy means of getting chlorine in water as bleach is caustic soda and chlorine. However ive treated sodium thiosulphate crystals and api stress coat but it doesn't remove the caustic soda and my guppies die of eventually mostly all at once about 3 days later when i change water with add dechlorinator. Can you recommend method or dechlorinator which would help me to make water safe. Thank you
I need help, im new to fish keeping and own an 33 gallon tank it is medium planted and there is a heater, what fish can i put in it? By the way i like special looking and collorfull fish
I have had large tanks for many years. In the past few years we have had to move a lot more than we would like due to work so we have avoided the large tanks until we get a little closer to retiring and plant ourselves in a home we will live at for the rest of our lives. So in the meantime we have a tall 10 gallon tank. I have a variety of live plants and they have done well. I have a sand bottom as an FYI. I have watched your videos on improving standard filters via some modifications. I have a standard 'back of the tank' filter. I added a Fluval cylinder sponge around the bottom of the tub that brings the water into the filtering area. Instead of a standard charcoal filter, I added a Fluval sponge in the filter housing. In the slot that holds the standard charcoal filter, I used a filter bag that you can add whatever (vs the sealed filters medium). I then added the Fluval cylinder shaped filter medium (looks like cylinder shaped coral) to house healthy bacteria. I let the tank cycle with the live plants and everything is looking good so I added small tropical fish. I have 2 small black mollies, 6 zebra danios, 6 neon tetras and 1 cory cat. Its been about 3 days now and everyone seems to have adjusted well. I know its easy to overstock a tank so I wanted to get your opinion. Is it overstocked based on it only being a 10 gallon? My thought is that with the live plants and the modifications to the filter plus a 10% water change every 7-10 days, my fish should be good. In all my years of keeping larger tanks, this is the first tank I planted live plants (most were grown from bulbs) and my thought is they will help a lot in maintaining a healthy tank. As to the current specs today, the ph is around 7 and there are no signs of ammonia, nitrates or nitrites. Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.
would there be a way to simulate live foods, like placing a small fan at the bottom of the tank and turn it on while feeding flakes. genuine question. but for sure start with lkife and slowly transition if it would be easier long term.
I keep 2 male beta, one Oscar, a coral snake, and a saltwater puffer in my 10 gallon tank. It’s a perfect set up. Oh yah and I use 6 pebbles “all purple” for my substrate.
I’m glad you like it! I know I’m a bit late but I hope you upgrade the Betta to a 10-15 gallon. Despite the literally abuse stores and ill informed fish keepers do, they do best in those sized tanks. Also live plants are always recommended! :)
I had a 10 gallon on my night stand with ramshorn snails, daphnia seedshrimp and cyclops. Mainly for fish food but i really enjoyed having it there. Alot going on all the time.
I have a question. I have 3 puffers now in a 10 gallon. Awhile ago I had 2 and they where a nice golden yellow with solid black spots. The 3 I have now are alot more dull and more on the light brown side. Is this normal or is there something I can do to get the colors to pop more? Thanks
So three pea puffers wouldn’t be two “crowded” for a 6 gallon tank (with many plants) correct?? As long as it’s the 1:2 ration of males and females? Or for a six gallon should I only be keeping one?
my pea puffer community tank in the 10 gal is such a fun little experiment working so well! 2 peapuffers one male one female with some ember tetras, few kuhli loahes and a bristle nose pleco
Hi, I’m setting up a 25 gallon for school and I plan on having 1 Sunset thick lipped gourami, 5 cherry barbs, and 5 cories. I’m wondering if they are compatible
Cory, I did the 10 gallon multifasciatus tank, with 2 males and 4 females, and after just a few weeks both males had bred and I ended up upgrading them to a 20 gallon long after only 8 weeks. Due to rapid breeding, the colony outgrew the 10 gallon tank real fast. If I were to advise someone to do a 10 gallon multifasciatus tank now, I would advise them to only get 1 male and 2 or 3 females, instead of 2 males and 4 females like I did.
Right now I have a dwarf cockatoo Cichlid and a teeeny bristlenose pleco! I will be upgrading to a 20 gal next year so they have a little more space to spread out :) any ideas on filtration for my 10? I have the basic pour over filter the tank came with, but would a sponge filter be better?
If someone went with the shrimp tank, how would you prevent mosquitoes? The filter and cover doesn't seem to deter them. I'd love to have cherry shrimp rocking out in a pretty planted tank on their own...but at the same time, our area has an epidemic of highly aggressive mosquitoes.
i’ve been binge watching your videos recently because i got one 10 gallon tank with a crayfish, and now i want more tanks. the crayfish is seriously a pain in the butt, he tries to jump out of the tank every time you reach in to fix something, but he is beautiful. i really want a 20 or 40 gallon betta sorority tank with tons of plants and a big centerpiece of driftwood.
Hi... because I saw one of your vids before about pea puffers, I bought a tank and bought 2... they are the most lovely little fish with human like qualities... they are cute, curious and full of character and with both eyes that can look forward, they are just wonderful little characters lol. I have a 2nd tank with pest snails that keeps me going for food... they do love bloodworm and brineshrimp to. Thanks for the recommendation... they are awesome and i would defo recommend them :)

Hey Cory! Thanks for the 10 gallon ideas! I am looking for options to try with my 125 gallon tank. I have 3 orandas in it now with a sand substrate and some plants. I keep the temp around 74 degrees. I would like to add some other tank mates if possible. Any suggestions?
Maybe some panda garras. Could also try a bristlenose.
I haven't seen those at my LFS yet. I may have to travel to another city to find them. I love corydoras but I've received mixed information. What do you think about them with orandas? I would love to see more videos about how to improve my large oranda tank. Thanks!
Thanks Cory, Great Video. Tank mates for a 20L would be another good subject.
20L=5gal,he already did one ;)
Great video I have some Corrydoras and 5 cherry barbs growing out in a 10gal planted at the moment, cant get enough of corydoras. Defently a fish I think I will never stop keeping. Great video Cory hope China is awesome. :) have a great one mate.
Corydoras are hard to get tired of.
Corydoras are too adorable. They quickly became my favorite even against some super pretty guppies and kohaku swordtails.
Two of my favorites as well
I’ve got a 10gal tank but my pH is low (around 6.0). Is there an easy/not harmful way to raise it? Beyond just water changes. Thanks!
Cool ideas. Thanks for sharing. I still like this format the best of all the Aquarium Co-Op videos formats. Cheers
What aspects do you like? The more insight I gain, the better I can fine tune them I suppose.
Cheers.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to explain why you like it.
They've been fine for the last year or so . . .
I just have 1 betta with some plants in a 10 gallon. Boring, I know.
At least he is not jammed up in a bowl
I have a 20 gallon long with just a betta and a snail :D
So how about you add some Snails or even some Corydoras?
My Betta lives with both & they all do amazingly well. You just have to pick the right tank mates, most Bettas can live safely with other fish but their are always a few who can't.
Cory keeps all his Bettas in community tanks at the shop as well
My Bettta lives with 5 Ghost shrimp and 4 female guppies
Try some neon tetras
Have a female betta in a 5 gallon..she is partial blind..what fish and how many can go into this size tank?....thanks Cory, love your videos.
My 10 gal consists of
-African Knifefish (brown knife fish)
-Upside-down catfish
-2 golden barbs (SUPER pretty)
-2 cherry barbs
-2 harlequin rasboras
Very active and very friendly tank with a WIDE spectrum of fish sizes (knife fish is 5x bigger than the barbs)
I love your videos. The information you provided for every different fish is great. However, I how about more pics of the tank and talk over that. Keep up the great work
how many, if any, otocinclus could I fit in my Betta's 10g? Dealing with a lot of algae and would rather have otos over snails/shrimps
Can you do a video on adding fun enrichment/toys for curious/playful fish? Can you keep anything else in with the pea puffer?
Thanks Corey, I'll actually be stopping by your store this Sunday or Monday! Got any suggestions for a 50 gal planted tank?
Great video, love the ideas, especially the pipefish. I have a question regarding that, which might be a candidate for a video, or just a comment: for someone with limited space--like an apartment dweller, who is doing a pipefish 10 gallon--how would you go about setting up a daphnia culture JUST for feeding the pipefish tank?
Can you put other types of fish in a 10 gallon with a single pea puffer?
Your videos make my days at work go by alot fast , Thank you.
I love Puffers ......so cute with their big heads and compact bodies.
I have 3 pea puffers in a 10 gallon. Mine eat blood worms and snails (rams horn, pond snails). I also use an undergravel filter, with some moss and sagg. I've had them for10 or 11 months. Every time I come home they come to the side of the tank. I swear they smile. Love them.
1 Male Black Copper Betta
7 Cobra Gubbies
6 Neon Tetras
2 Cory Catfish
1 Ghost Shrimp
Running an AquaClear 20 with a sponge pre filter. A 50 watt heater and an air stone. I do 25 - 30 percent water change weekly.
I missed working with the pipe fish at the OKC Zoo. We have a dedicated tank just for them. I can say they are fun to watch and something out of the box to talk about when you have guests.
I'm keeping ghost shrimp and pond snails in my 10 gallon currently. Using it as a food grow out tank for my GSP tank.
omg i didn't know pea puffers were a thing, I'm definitely going to look into them for my 10 gallon!! theyre so cute!
I have a large, thriving Opae'Ula colony in my 10.
Hi Cory
Do you know which fresh water dechlorinator would be effective to treat for bleach.
By the way i like special looking and collorfull fish
get shrimp (they will breed), school of khooli loaches, super red bristlenos, school of any fish ( theres so many u pick :)
make it planted
Discus are beautiful, but correct me if I'm wrong, but they grow and need bigger tanks.
Hey Corey big fan! I'm really wanting a pea puffer as a first puffer fish is that a good choice?
What your opinion on freshwater flounder in an aquarium? Have you ever kept any? Tank size needed, types of flounder, and care?
would there be a way to simulate live foods, like placing a small fan at the bottom of the tank and turn it on while feeding flakes. genuine question. but for sure start with lkife and slowly transition if it would be easier long term.
I keep 2 male beta, one Oscar, a coral snake, and a saltwater puffer in my 10 gallon tank. It’s a perfect set up.
Oh yah and I use 6 pebbles “all purple” for my substrate.
Is your stand build out of how to be a comedian books?
Never thought I’d love fish this much. I got a betta fish a few days ago with a 5 gal and now I want more fish so thanks for this
I’m glad you like it!
Thanks
may i also ask about what are the tiny black spots on my driftwood? the royal whiptail catfish i have (juvenile) doesn't seem to eat it
So three pea puffers wouldn’t be two “crowded” for a 6 gallon tank (with many plants) correct??
Great vid bro .... i happen to agree . I have my puffers in a 30 tall with guppies .... its working so far...oh and 2 shrimp red/ blue
Would Repashy foods work for having the vitamins and nutrients to feed pea puffers? If they would eat it? Or Vibra Bites?
How many dwarf puffers would you put in a 20 gallon
i’ve been binge watching your videos recently because i got one 10 gallon tank with a crayfish, and now i want more tanks. the crayfish is seriously a pain in the butt, he tries to jump out of the tank every time you reach in to fix something, but he is beautiful. i really want a 20 or 40 gallon betta sorority tank with tons of plants and a big centerpiece of driftwood.
Hi... because I saw one of your vids before about pea puffers, I bought a tank and bought 2... they are the most lovely little fish with human like qualities... they are cute, curious and full of character and with both eyes that can look forward, they are just wonderful little characters lol. I have a 2nd tank with pest snails that keeps me going for food... they do love bloodworm and brineshrimp to. Thanks for the recommendation... they are awesome and i would defo recommend them :)
Are they good for beginners?
glancing through comments. I think I need more coffee.
whats wrong luv?
Right now I have breeding guppies in my 10 gal. I also have a mystery snail helping to break down any of the hornwort, guppy grass, or octopus plant leaves that fall off. It's looking great and all my fry are doing well
I have a Mr. Aqua 12g on my desk at work. It seems a little strange, but I keep Orange throat carter's and mosquito fish. I keep it heated, and it's a very active tank
That pea puffer is too cute!!!!
