Are there any other puffers besides the pea puffer that would be okay in a 10 gallon tank? I really want a pufferfishhhh!
My Pea Puffers lived for almost 4yrs, I had them on my desk, they would watch the monitor and go mental when I'd sit at my desk, as a dog would do when you come home from work, amazing little fish.
I had a colony of pea puffer in my first 10 gallon, and those little boogers were hilarious to watch dart in and out of the micro sword clump in the tank center. They'd pop out and chase eachother around the tank before darting back inside their leafy green house. Definitely a good species full of character, and they definitely can recognize you when you come over to watch them for a bit; mine would swim to the front of the tank for me, but hid from my brother.
ive seen video of them in the wild in a stream and there was loads like im talkin 50 or more shoaling together so i guess as long as you have enough room for them to establish their own territories they should be fine i only have 3 in a 10 gallon got 3 cos that was the deal in store but mine get along fine i have a huge clump of moss on wood in middle of tank and two long grass plants at the front on each side
Sound advice on the pea puffers. My experience is that they feel safer in a group of 6+, as long as they each have their own hiding spot (densely planted tank is optimal). Because they naturally scour the substrate/plants for snails and food, they don't need a lot of swimming-space, only enough hiding spots to get out of the line of sight from eachother.
When I first bought my pea puffers I will have to admit I knew very little about them but I got 3 and put them in a community tank, I’ve had little to no problems with any of them and I’m pretty sure one of them is in love with my celestial Perl danios cause it just follows it around and swims beside it all the time

PHLuke 19 I got 75 painted fire shrimp and 3 months later I have 3. I paid for painted fire and got like 50 clear shrimp. I am never doing shrimp again.
My pea puffer was so cute! He was in a five originally (and happy as can be) and soon got upgraded to my 20 community and then my 55 community tank, as I used him to clean up my pest snails. The most peaceful fish I've ever owned!
I have 3 female pea puffers in a 6 gallon planted tank, and they’re doing great! I have fluval U1 baffled with a intake sponge to reduce the current. I was lucky enough with my local fish store having fully grown puffers, so I could pick the females.
I'm dividing mine--betta on one side, peas on the other :P It's my son's tank, and he already has a betta, and has been wanting puffers ever since he met Murphy. The water parameters are nearly identical, and it's going to be easier to keep one set-up than two.
I don’t get why people like 20 L’s so much, when I was new to fish keeping I got a stand for a 20L because that’s what I heard was a good beginner tank size, but then quickly realized a 29 can fit on my stand but also give me more stocking options and I could fit more and taller plants inside of said 29 gallon!
@@ian281 I am in a wheelchair so the hight of the 20G long is better for me, since I can take care of it easier. I am in the process of down sizing from a 29G as we speak.

I keep 2 male beta, one Oscar, a coral snake, and a saltwater puffer in my 10 gallon tank. It’s a perfect set up. Oh yah and I use 6 pebbles “all purple” for my substrate.
In my 10 gallon heavy planted tank, I have 2 pieces of drift wood, a few river decor rocks, a small plastic gray skull, about 5 marimo moss balls, 1 male betta fish, 2 mystery snails (1 ivory, 1 gold), a small group of ghost shrimp, and a pair of african dwarf frogs
1 Male Black Copper Betta 7 Cobra Gubbies 6 Neon Tetras 2 Cory Catfish 1 Ghost Shrimp Running an AquaClear 20 with a sponge pre filter. A 50 watt heater and an air stone. I do 25 - 30 percent water change weekly.

I have 4 pea puffers, 3 male, one female. Yes I know that's not ideal but they were super tiny when I bought them. I´ve had them for 9 months now in a 10 gallon tank and they are SO adorable! All of them are like that "dog who saves the baby". Tank is heavily planted so maybe that helps. I recommend these puffers! They are so cute and funny.

I’m glad you like it! I know I’m a bit late but I hope you upgrade the Betta to a 10-15 gallon. Despite the literally abuse stores and ill informed fish keepers do, they do best in those sized tanks. Also live plants are always recommended! :)
I am keeping penguin tetras in my 10 gallon and I honestly LOVE THEM... you look at their little lips and they are so cute... And it honestly seems like they know when im going to feed them because whenever I pick up the food they start doing this dance all together. I absolutely love them.
So how about you add some Snails or even some Corydoras? My Betta lives with both & they all do amazingly well. You just have to pick the right tank mates, most Bettas can live safely with other fish but their are always a few who can't. Cory keeps all his Bettas in community tanks at the shop as well
I have 3 pea puffers in a 10 gallon. Mine eat blood worms and snails (rams horn, pond snails). I also use an undergravel filter, with some moss and sagg. I've had them for10 or 11 months. Every time I come home they come to the side of the tank. I swear they smile. Love them.
I have had large tanks for many years. In the past few years we have had to move a lot more than we would like due to work so we have avoided the large tanks until we get a little closer to retiring and plant ourselves in a home we will live at for the rest of our lives. So in the meantime we have a tall 10 gallon tank. I have a variety of live plants and they have done well. I have a sand bottom as an FYI. I have watched your videos on improving standard filters via some modifications. I have a standard 'back of the tank' filter. I added a Fluval cylinder sponge around the bottom of the tub that brings the water into the filtering area. Instead of a standard charcoal filter, I added a Fluval sponge in the filter housing. In the slot that holds the standard charcoal filter, I used a filter bag that you can add whatever (vs the sealed filters medium). I then added the Fluval cylinder shaped filter medium (looks like cylinder shaped coral) to house healthy bacteria. I let the tank cycle with the live plants and everything is looking good so I added small tropical fish. I have 2 small black mollies, 6 zebra danios, 6 neon tetras and 1 cory cat. Its been about 3 days now and everyone seems to have adjusted well. I know its easy to overstock a tank so I wanted to get your opinion. Is it overstocked based on it only being a 10 gallon? My thought is that with the live plants and the modifications to the filter plus a 10% water change every 7-10 days, my fish should be good. In all my years of keeping larger tanks, this is the first tank I planted live plants (most were grown from bulbs) and my thought is they will help a lot in maintaining a healthy tank. As to the current specs today, the ph is around 7 and there are no signs of ammonia, nitrates or nitrites. Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.
I missed working with the pipe fish at the OKC Zoo. We have a dedicated tank just for them. I can say they are fun to watch and something out of the box to talk about when you have guests.
I had a 10 gallon on my night stand with ramshorn snails, daphnia seedshrimp and cyclops. Mainly for fish food but i really enjoyed having it there. Alot going on all the time.
I have 3 albino cory cats. I am gonna be getting some Chile Rasbora soon. The cory cats are so freaking adorable! So much personality. I love them so much
@@agg7226 it might work but I would be worried about the personalities of the fish. Corys are really active and it might annoy the beta. If you try it, be prepared to separate the beta. Beta usually are pretty good with fish that don't look like betas, but you never know
Right now I have breeding guppies in my 10 gal. I also have a mystery snail helping to break down any of the hornwort, guppy grass, or octopus plant leaves that fall off. It's looking great and all my fry are doing well
Right now in my 10 gallon, I have accidental danio fry. Because when setting it up to cycle it, I threw gross gravel vacuum water from my other tank into it to speed up the cycle. It worked, but I guess I got some eggs. So now my kids are super excited about the 4 baby danios. Cute, but I had other plans for the tank and they're taking too long to get bigger than our Angel's mouth. (It will be a cherry shrimp and chili rasbora tank eventually...)
About 8 Guppies, 1 Betta and 4 cherry shrimp in my heavily planted 10 gallon. Water parameters are perfect and no ammonia spikes. 2 hotrodded filters. Everything works perfectly. A great video to see on my birthday.
I’ve been keeping platies in my 10 gal, 1 male and two females and watch them breed. Most babies won’t survive but it’s really cool when they do. I also have 6 pigmy corydoras cleaning up around the bottom.
my pea puffer community tank in the 10 gal is such a fun little experiment working so well! 2 peapuffers one male one female with some ember tetras, few kuhli loahes and a bristle nose pleco
The pipefish is so cool. When I went to H.C. Aquas fishroom last weekend I was amazed by his. He is looking for one for my tank. It suck cause they are rare. Great video Cory!
I recently rearranged and consolidate aquariums from all over the house. One of my favorites was a tank of Multies . The only problem I had with that tank was anytime I or anyone else approached, they would make a mad dash for their shells. When I moved them, I decided to add some Endlers just to see what would happen. Well, the Multies no longer would dash into their shells when anyone approached. They began to swim and stay in all levels of the aquarium. Never once have I seen them chase any Endler. I don't know yet if when the Endlers have fry, the Multies will eat them (they don't eat their own). You mentioned the fun of watching them move trumpet snails and their rearranging the tank bottom. You forgot to mention the fun of seeing the babies peeping out of the shells and racing back in -- always gives me a chuckle.
I love your videos. The information you provided for every different fish is great. However, I how about more pics of the tank and talk over that. Keep up the great work
Hi, Cory! I have a Betta & some White Cloud Mountain Minnows in my planted 10 gallon. It's right next to my chair & fun to watch. Thanks for all of your helpful info!
This actually isn't good stocking, as white clouds are cold water fish and betta are warm water fish. If you heat it the clouds will be unhappy, if you don't have a heater the betta will be unhappy.
I got really lucky with my 3 pea puffers in my 10 gallon. They live in a tank full of cherry shrimp and 2 male guppies. They do sometimes snack on the baby shrimp but they leave the guppies alone. I do keep them well fed on snails (some blood worms and brine shrimp) with lots plants for cover for the shrimp. Probably wont work for most people.
i’ve been binge watching your videos recently because i got one 10 gallon tank with a crayfish, and now i want more tanks. the crayfish is seriously a pain in the butt, he tries to jump out of the tank every time you reach in to fix something, but he is beautiful. i really want a 20 or 40 gallon betta sorority tank with tons of plants and a big centerpiece of driftwood.
I have a Mr. Aqua 12g on my desk at work. It seems a little strange, but I keep Orange throat carter's and mosquito fish. I keep it heated, and it's a very active tank
Gardneri killifish have formed a colony in my heavily planted Walstad method 10 gallon. Started with 4. Had 12 after 6 months. Sold 2 pairs recently. I keep them with a few amanos and bamboo shrimp. The killifish must eat snails or at least snail eggs because that's one tank that doesn't have them...
I have just set up a 15 gallon tank with 4 dwarf yellow puffers, 2 pleco, and an established elephant nose. All good so far, hoping no chance of elephant nose annoying or eating the puffers, doesnt seem like it so far. Bought the tank to separate the elephant nose cos he was too aggressive in my main tank, and with just the elephant nose in a 15 gallon I thought I would add the others. Quite new (6 months in, so being adventurous).
I have a group of Multies in my 29 gallon. They really need 3 shells per fish and they will pick their own little area to defend. The baby fry are so tiny! Brine shrimp and crushed flake does the trick
In my 10 gallon, I have two dwarf gouramis, two banjo catfish, and one baby round goby I plan to either move to another tank eventually, or release it back to the lake I found it in.
Pea puffers are DEFINITELY the gateway drug to bigger puffers. I moved on to a Figure 8 puffer and a Saddle Valentini Puffer later. Still have a soft spot for those little derps though. They also lived in a community tank with tiger endlers, peacock gudgeons, and eventually blue rams. Never once had a problem with them bullying any other types of fish other than themselves. I actually think my big male Blue Ram bullied them.
The only tank I have outside of my fish room is a 10 gallon with a betta and five harlequin raspboras. I'm also growing out some baby bristlenose plecos in there until they're big enough to take to my local fish store.

I have a 20 gallon planted tank in cycling right now lol can't wait to go fish shopping.
Honestly man your video ideas are soooo good 👍🏻👍🏻
I have 3 albino cory cats. I am gonna be getting some Chile Rasbora soon. The cory cats are so freaking adorable! So much personality. I love them so much
Maggie Brayton do you think 5 corys and a betta are fine for a 10g??
@@agg7226 it might work but I would be worried about the personalities of the fish. Corys are really active and it might annoy the beta. If you try it, be prepared to separate the beta. Beta usually are pretty good with fish that don't look like betas, but you never know
I keep white clouds and I love them
I have 1 betta, 5 neon tetras and a Cory catfish in a 10 gallon planted tank
4 zebra danios, 2 mollies and 3 khuli loaches
Right now I have breeding guppies in my 10 gal. I also have a mystery snail helping to break down any of the hornwort, guppy grass, or octopus plant leaves that fall off. It's looking great and all my fry are doing well
Right now I have 2 silver dollar tetras, a molly, and a dwarf gourami, and a pleco. They are all getting along great!
Nerite snails, White Cloud Mountain minnows, and Blue Diamond Neocardinas.
About 8 Guppies, 1 Betta and 4 cherry shrimp in my heavily planted 10 gallon. Water parameters are perfect and no ammonia spikes. 2 hotrodded filters. Everything works perfectly.
A great video to see on my birthday.
I wish puffers where available in Australia, every time you mention them I want them even more 😭
I just got some Ornatipinnis Kigoma Shell Dwellers.. can't wait to see them in action, I hope they have as much personality as the Multis
Nice, they should be fun.
2 peapuffers one male one female with some ember tetras, few kuhli loahes and a bristle nose pleco
omg i didn't know pea puffers were a thing, I'm definitely going to look into them for my 10 gallon!! theyre so cute!
I liked that you incorporated more advanced setups and species... Thanks!
I love your videos. The information you provided for every different fish is great. However, I how about more pics of the tank and talk over that. Keep up the great work
I have a 14 gallon stocked with 2 German blue rams, 3 threadfin rainbows, 6 ember tetras and 3 nerite snails. Been enjoying it for last 13 months.
They've been fine for the last year or so . . .
I'm keeping ghost shrimp and pond snails in my 10 gallon currently. Using it as a food grow out tank for my GSP tank.
sticklebacks .small amusing cold water ..great breeding colour and behaviour
My rainbow belly pipefish loves small ghost shrimp 😋
I have a Mr. Aqua 12g on my desk at work. It seems a little strange, but I keep Orange throat carter's and mosquito fish. I keep it heated, and it's a very active tank
Have a couple kuhli loaches, 3 Mickey mouse platies, a peacock gudgeon, 2 otos and a mystery snail!
Crayfish tank is lots of fun as well, lots of personality in a crayfish
I have 3 male guppies in my 10 Gallon Tank :) they are very fun to watch and have lots of personality.
The only tank I have outside of my fish room is a 10 gallon with a betta and five harlequin raspboras. I'm also growing out some baby bristlenose plecos in there until they're big enough to take to my local fish store.
I believe pipefish can go well with shrimp. Never done it personally but seen it on reddit and ot looked cool.
Can you put other types of fish in a 10 gallon with a single pea puffer?
I have two - 7 gallons planted with a betta and a 10 gallon unplanted that have a variety of live breeders
Love these sort of videos
Axelrodis, kobutais, chilis, celestials, pygmy corys, kuhlis, dwarf chain loaches for snail control, and hillstreams...oh and shrimp in my 30 gal long
You should add sparkling gourami to this. They are super curious and also make sounds
Ohh yeah sweet video
