I may be wrong, but I think Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office is a Civil Service appointment. So, Larry is not political.
There is also a CM to the Treasury, Gladstone. The CM to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Palmerston, was duffed up by Larry in 2016. Palmerston retired in 2020.
He's also a millionare. Sold alot of T-shirts over the years.

Larry, takes his job very seriously --- did you catch him chasing down a fox that jumped into a flower bed one evening? Larry, unintimidated, got right on that intruder, gave chase and to date, the fox intruder never returned! Larry truly gave the fox "the what for." Larry rules -- he steps quietly but carries a swift and powerful paw! No one messes with Larry!

Not just Larry. The door to No.10 cannot be opened from the outside, everyone has to be let in. I would imagine the CCTV coverage in Downing Street is pretty much total.
Yes, I too, think that that there must be a digital camera inside the No. 10 Downing Street office that was specially installed for cat Larry and his predecessor Chief Mousers. I note that when people want to get in they need to press the entrance bell.
There is almost certainly a camera directly overlooking the door and we just can't see it. The door is a blastproof metal replica (the original wooden door is in storage I believe) and has no gaps or moving parts beyond the hinges.
The Downing Street gates were installed in the late 1980s under Thatcher and there was a mortar attack targetting John Major in the 90s.

There’s usually a uniformed officer near the door who will knock to get him let in. But when they set up the lectern and bring the cameras for a speech, the cops don’t want to photobomb it. This might be why it took a little longer than usual to let him in.

[For those who don't know] This is Larry. He is the Chief Mouser of 10 Downing Street. He is also a Civil Servant making him part of the Government. I think he is about 15 (Human years) so might be coming to the end of his life. It has not yet been decided if he will be given a state funeral.
Ya know, they should add a doorbell that Larry can reach. Yes, he should be able to learn. Years ago, my.mother got a removable alarm for our backbdoor, that went off if someone touched the door knob. ANYBODY. Two neighborhood cats who had adopted her bc they knew she would give them treats, came to iur door and one of the two reached up to.pat the knob. Instant alarm, and when she saw the two neighbor cats, she laughed and gave them treats.
That's all it took for those two floofs; whenever they wanted treats and scritchies, trust me; theyvrNg that alarm every chance they got.

Yes. Larry has a wikipedia page and there is also a page about him on the Downing St website. He did chase mice at first, but became lazy. Like most of the civil service cats he came from the cat hime, so his early life is not known. He apparently doesn’t like most men, but he did like Barack Obama.
Larry has been the Number 1 resident of No10 for 11years and he is 14 years old but look s much younger..

To anyone who thinks it was cool that Larry ran off a fox, it wasn't. He is 15, a fairly elderly cat and the fight could easily have gone another way, with Larry being seriously injured or worse. As it was I am sure he took some damage. Why was an animal so precious to the British people and indeed the world left outside after dark, anyway ?
First, the assumptions about the fox are rubbish. It was a young fox, and Larry, like most cats, absolutely knows how to communicate that it’s his turf. It is actually rare for cats and foxes to come to blows and, if they do, it is almost always the cat that is the aggressor and the fox that runs away.
Second, in the UK most people think it’s cruel to keep a cat in the stress and loneliness of life imprisonment just to relieve the anxiety of an owner - especially since many will be alone all day. Why get a cat if you are going to thwart its most basic instincts? The vast majority of people neuter their cats here, and have them vaccinated and wormed etc routinely. Most cats are also microchipped. Our cats get to sleep or exercise or socialise (with other animals or people) explore, sit in the sun, smell the grass, according to their own wants and instincts. They come and go as they please. There’s a fox and a group of cats in my street that started congregating to eat bread because a young fox started coming around eating bread, raisins, apple cores etc that a neighbour puts out for birds. At around teatime most days, in broad daylight, you’ll see the vixen and three or four fat lazy cats who all live just yards away, congregating. The cats always move in as soon as she comes out, have a sniff, sometimes pick up a bit of bread, and amble off disappointed while the vixen tucks in. The cats just want to make sure there’s nothing tasty for cats being overlooked.
It wasn’t a fight. It was a territorial display by Larry, which the fox understood and retreated from. The fox was a young skinny thing, and Larry has years of experience. Wild animals of different species very seldom actually come to physical fights. It’s always always display. Predators in particular don’t risk injury, because a relatively minor injury can mean they can’t hunt successfully and gi hungry, which makes them even less able to hunt. Almost certainly Larry experienced the cat equivalent of “Cool!” His body language afterwards was full if swagger.

No one said a damned thing about keeping Larry all cooped up alone, not that he is ever alone around so many people. i stated that it is extremely irresponsible to put an elderly cat in the position to have to defend himself against any animal, especially a wild, fanged animal which absolutely can injure him.
The world needs Larry, he has an important Public Relations job to do, along with dealing with Vermin in #10, so why put him at risk? he deserves care, safety and kindness, not to be part of televised brutality which morons deem to be "cute"
i am aware that cats are fearless when it comes to protecting their territory, i have seen my cats run a bear up a tree when one climbed into their fenced yard when we lived in avery wild place. my boy cat would attack dogs if i allowed him to, however i do not, for he doesn't deserve to be injured for being fierce. it is my legal responsibility to keep my cats healthy, safe, chipped and vaccinated, which i do, however they are not allowed to fight wild animals, and they do not go out at night.
