Thanks. I moved to America with family in 1980. I used to go to Calibar primary school right there next to where the fitness place used to be. Long gone now. I was telling my very American kid about the lollipop lady that used to be right outside the school for crossing over to the shops. It was nice to see the shops are still there. Thanks.
Grew up there, lots of memories of the sports centre etc, also my late mother used to work in Mills shoefitters for many years. Glad to have found this video 👌
I’ve watched other videos you have posted from Barrhead….they are so nostalgic to me….because I remember every single place you have shown…although most under new names now….and a lot of new buildings too…. I left for overseas in 1975….. thank-you for the lovely memories. ❤
Great seeing some of the places around Barrhead, it’s a long time since I lived there although visit some family that still live in Barrhead, moved away south and now live in the Cotswolds, my grandparents and parents lived in Barrhead too, good memories of the town 👍
Grew up in Neilston but had a lot of connections with Barrhead. @8:15 above Willaim Hills used to be my dentist, Spencer Dentists. My dad used to work at the huge Shanks factory which has now been totally cleared. The Foundry is a big improvement from the old sports center but the old sports center wasn't demolished, they added a new frontage and spruced the place up. Not much employment now in Barrhead with Shanks, the mills, and the Volvo works all gone.
Grew up in Auchenback. What is now Farmfoods (8:04) used to be Barrhead Co-op Furniture Store where I served my apprenticeship as a TV Engineer and my 'Master' was Tommy Simpson; (that's going back a few years!). Moved away in about '75, maybe I should get back for a visit? Thanks for the memories. Cheers, Jim L
