    This guy is the salt of the earth!!!!! I'll buy one of those McMaster Carr gaskets from you for my cc169 , I can't understand what that very thin outer moon slot does in that gasket. It seems extraneous. .. I'll give you $20 and I'll be happiest if you make a profit selling them

    Neat video, at least you were able to get parts for it. The Corolla started after sitting for 2 months without charging the battery first. I moved it to the back of the driveway, so it is out of the way when I work on it. Congratulations on hitting 100 subscribers btw.

      Indeed, sir. Be it by way of an open wallet or an open mind, if the will is strong enough there is a way to get it done. But... You see what I was saying about parts availability for these things. There were 3 of those gaskets left in the world until 2 weeks ago, AFAIK. But, this is actually what I would call (laughingly in this case, 'cus tractor gasket) "real" hotrodding. Back in the day when you just couldn't buy the stuff you wanted, you made it. The interesting mix of technologies available to the average guy now is making for some really interesting advancements and changes on that front now.
      Glad to hear you're getting to work on your car. I didn't realize it was down for all this time. I still have that vehicle lifting video at the forefront of my thoughts, but it's going to end up being a big one and take forever because I'll have to be very careful about what I put out in the ether on that one. Getting someone hurt isn't at all something we need to be known for around here.
      Thank you! In terms of my small channel, things have just been blowing up lately. 91 to 104 in a week and 20 new subs in 28 days. Watch time is through the roof too. It's incredibly flattering that _anyone_ would want to watch anything I do, never mind over 100 of you guys now. I read a statistic that only around half of the RUclips channels started ever reach 100 subs and I was fairly confident I'd be contributing to the bottom end of that statistic. It's insane that I'm not and I genuinely thank all of you guys for getting me there.
      Maybe some day I'll have more subs than videos! It's a close race at the moment! ;)

      @@TheBrokenLife Not having to put the corolla on the battery charger surprised the hell out of me. As for why it sat so long, the rear brakes went out the day before the stay at home order went into place.

      Take the wins when you can! Did you run it for awhile so it could heal up from the time off?
      Also, I just didn't realize that "went out" meant OUT. I thought you just needed to change the shoes or something. At least you didn't have to go anywhere while it was down. Unbelievably, I'm still working from home too. This has more to do with my employer than Covid-19, but, I'll take it. I think I've put something like 110 miles, total, on my vehicles since the 3rd week of March.

    • @benhill3834

      @@TheBrokenLife I did run the Corolla for like 20 mins. Nearest, I can tell the adjuster slipped(I had had the same issue on the Camry), as for how it happened, I panic braked going down a steep hill because I drove too fast. The Corolla still kinda has brakes, but it stops real lazily. Since it has 140k and none of the service records I have show the rear brakes ever getting worked on, I'll probably replace the brake shoes and the hardware. Oh, and of speaking of not driving, the latest oil change on that car only has 500 miles on it.

      @@benhill3834 Yeah, at 140k you'll probably be the first guy in there and it's likely due. Good call for sure. I've still got 3 that need brake work... I just can't catch a brake it seems!

    Rotate the drive shaft half way and drill a new hole

    • @TheBrokenLife

      I'm not sure I have the precision required to ream it to the dowel hole diameter. I did JUST buy a new shaft for it and I plan to attempt to repair the old one.

    I've been hunting for the o-ring #7 aka #43. Will check the Sundstrand manual, but their P/N is the CC # minus the SU (SU-9004100-0360). Luckily an eBay seller has 2 from Steiner (same pumps), so I guess I'll go that route for my $9 o-ring.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife  3 года назад +1

      It looks like a lot of places have them in stock? I see them for less than the eBay price too.
      A local hydraulic shop might have something too. It's crazy that as soon as it comes in an MTD bag that it's 10x more expensive than it should be...

    • @Farmall450
      @Farmall450 3 года назад +1

      @@TheBrokenLife To clarify, $2.30 x 2 for o-rings, $6 shipping

      @@Farmall450 That makes a little more sense.
      Hopefully that fixes your problem. From the looks of mine, I'll need to split it to finally get it to stop leaking.

    Unless you are cutting grass in 90F temperatures for more than a few hours at a time that plastic fan is useless.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife  2 года назад +1

      You can feel a pretty decent wind behind the tractor from that little fan.
      Even with the fan, the rear cover of mine is warm enough that it's not very comfortable to touch after just a couple of hours. I've even considered an aluminum transmission cover to help get the oil temp down.

    • @paulg444
      @paulg444 2 года назад +1

      @@TheBrokenLife I live in New England and seldom run my 169 for more than 40 minutes. I have a small lawn, I'm a bit of a suburban lawn jockey, in fact I spend 10x as much time maintaining my cub equipment than I do actually running it so I've never gotten my rear gear noticeably warm.

    • @TheBrokenLife
      @TheBrokenLife  2 года назад

      @@paulg444 I look at it as cheap insurance to make sure my fan is in good condition. If nothing else, the fan costs about 1/3 of what a proper transmission fluid change does. If I bake the fluid because it got too hot _once,_ (and I happen to even notice it) I'm out ~$80... plus I'd still have to replace the $20 fan.
      If I should happen to not notice it and burn up the transmission, then the sky is the limit for what the repair cost could be.
      So, whether or not it really needs it for your climate or usage, I can't in good conscience tell people to not worry about it.
