Here's another twist. Check out the KISS video for "Domino." Look at the Ibanez that Paul Stanley's playing. It's like a cross between a Les Paul and a Dean Elite (Czechoslovakian model) with the small headstock. Not to be confused with the "shrimp fork headstock."
Get ready For a little mind blown action!
Yes!
Nope. Ugly
@@RokDAWG1 ...That's a Washburn Preacher. They produced it as a Paul Stanley model for awhile. Doesn't look like it caught fire and took off. You can find them on Ebay every now and then.
@@Smokeys911 NO it's NOT. That Model Washburn is actually the same shape that Paul brought over from Silvertone. TRY AGAIN
I can only wish I had an"Iceman".I had a buddy that had one from the'70's.That thing was built sturdy as hell. It had nice low action,no buzzing or anything with the strings or fretting out.when you held in your hands and play that you could just tell that neck wasn't moving at all. As far as playing rhythm, it was probably the most comfortable guitar I have ever played (I'm not talkin about playing leads on it.I'm talking about playing rhythm). I would definitely rock this guitar.
If u like the iceman try the destroyer ..nicer shape an most have better pickups.had a red one an it's the only none LP guitar I owned
I bought an Iceman 20 plus years ago and still ya have it. It’s a 77, still plays sweet, love it, wish I would’ve bought another back then..
Just got to love a super low action. I know I do
I have the Paul Stanley's Ibanez so basically an iceman reedition and goddamn it's my favourite guitar. Jumped from a Squire that kept getting out of tune, buzzing frets, what a piece of shit. Went to a shop to try some axes out, tried it, holy smokes what a difference. Usually I would get a guitar, play it some time and sell it to buy another one but this one's so good I will just keep it for myself for good.
I would rock an Iceman any day.
And Iceman.. you can be my wingman any time
Ya I would too
I just bought an IC400 with hardcase at a pawnshop for $300. In the process off modifying it to my desires. The first time I saw J from White Zombie in “More human than human” I craved that beast. He played an IC 300 which I had one last year but the 400 had Les Paul control layouts, which I prefer. Next week I’m putting Seymour Duncan Blackouts in and installing upgraded tunematic, TP6 fine tune tail and Grover locking tuners. All blacked out hardware. A real metal machine
I used to have one but just the cheap IC300 model. Dots and no binding. I didn’t like it much but I’d still love to have a full PS10!
Icemen are fricken awesome
This looks closer to the one of the Washburn guitars Paul Stanley used in the early 00s.
@@Grayjacket11 That's it. Didn't he get upset with them because they used one of his models as the basis of the guitar they made for Rhianna (when Nuno was in her band) only with her logo on?
Can we appreciate how shredded Paul Stanley still is, I went to a show on the End Of The Road tour and the dude is ripped
I’m trying to be as shredded as Paul tbh
He looks good.Unfortunately. His voice is shredded too.😞
I'm SO glad I saw him live several times before that happened. 🤟
I could imagine it was late 90s Gibson, cause by 1998 they were already in works with Ace Frehley's first signature LP, so maybe they were trying to score a package deal with both of them. And ultimately when Paul went with Washburn in that same era, his guitar resemble a lot of the "Gibson prototype"
Paul's contract with Ibanez expired the year before so that would make sense
Last time I was this early, Ibanez was still selling Les Pauls
Their design is different now, more rounded and the headstock is different, before ibanez made exact copies, like Burny or Edwards
The best les paul I ever had was an early 70s Ibanez
I've played an Iceman for the past 35 years. I bought my first one as a joke. A week later it was my #1 guitar and has been ever since. They're incredibly comfortable guitars. Over the years I've had five. So far.
I have sadly.... ASHAMEDLY! Not yet acquired my dream guitar which is pretty much ANY IC-400 and up.. however.. i am trying and praying i will finally be able to afford a unicorn TRUE DREAM guitar.... THE most cool, and awesomely unique Iceman.... The IC-210 Triple Coil. Someone has just A Triple coil pickup for sale atm or did, for $750 lol. and i think it wasn't even working...lol
I think this one should be Documented Austin
Fell in love with PS Mirror when I saw KISS in 79. Paul's guitar reflected all over the Spectrum in Philly. This guitar u should make an offer and review. Beautiful neck and body. Not as as ugly as you say IMHO.
Lawsuit guitars are amazing. I want to get an ibanez made rickenbacker bass sibling for my Univox
Absolutely lawsuit guitars are great. The best les paul I ever had was an early 70s Ibanez.
Had a Ibanez "Rick" cherry sunburst and a bud had a natural wood one. His had Rickenbacker name plate.. mine was stock. Both where very well made!! He took his to a tech to make sure it was a copy it was so good.
@princewish I think it depends on what guitar it was. I've got a double neck Ibanez SG that is fantastic (other than the frets being worn). However I've also had an Ibanez SG that looked nice but even after a refret, it played well but sounded terrible. The humbuckers were also situated in strange positions compared with a Gibson SG. That one I sold years ago, still have the double neck.
The guy in the picture holding the guitar looks like ED ROMAN from ED ROMAN GUITARS.
Justin Case he’s well known for buying fender USA parts, putting them together himself and selling them as Fenders!
@@idleave He's well known for being dead since 2011
RIP Ed!
@@idleave And shitting on PRS and saying Paul doesnt know what he is doing
God damn, the Ibanez "iceman" with those broken mirrows is beautiful guitar... I once had an opportunity to get iceman, but it was with a solid color body and I didn't take that...
I'd much rather a MIJ ibanez iceman, played a 70s one and was amazed at how good it felt and sounded. hopefully you can review some more 70s pre lawsuit MIJ les paul customs, i'd take one of those with dimarzio distortions over a gibson any day.
Best sounding/feeling LP guitar I’ve ever owned was a 78 Greco with a vintage Dimarzio Distortion in the bridge.
My father in law has a Univox LP..its all original, from the 70s, he got for Christmas one year when he was a teen..he still has it. Everytime we got to visit, I ALWAYS ask to play it such a sweet guitar, really. 😄🤘
@princewish ,absolutely!
@@mubodude,I agree
You by any chance a Daron Malakian fan?
I've wanted a PS model Ibanez or Washburn forever. They both look AND sound great. And NOBODY looks as cool playing them as Paul Stanley.
I own an original '79 PS-10. Second guitar I ever bought. Absolutely love it.
looking forward for the silver sky! great content keep it up man!
I spent months trying to find this guitar!!!!! I can’t believe you are doing an episode on this!!!
BUY THIS!!!! This is exactly why I’m here for!
Would love to see this one with matched bouts up at the neck join: no explorer horn. Then the rounded lower bouts would probably work overall in the aesthetics of the silhouette.
Ive always been a huge fan of J. Yuenger and his signature Iceman... the green metal flake with stars, so badass. I'd rock the shit outta this gibson though.
I personally reckon the J model Iceman is the best Iceman Ibanez ever built. It’s a killer guitar! Sadly they didn’t build that many of them so when you do see them for sale they’re rather expensive. I really would love to own one someday though. They built a signature Iceman for Paul Gilbert which is rare too and while it’s nowhere near as cool as the J Iceman the only one I’ve ever played was a fantastic guitar. I think it was one of the Ibanez models that were originally only sold in Japan.
Extremely rockable. I like it!!!!! Kudos to Gibson. For 42 years I've had much respect for Ibanez...even though they were commonly in trouble with Gibson. This was a cool market battle to witness as I was growing up. I seem to recall some Ibanez Les Pauls that some critics said were better than real Gibsons. When the heat was on, it's rumored that Ibanez sent them out into the market without any brand name on them at all. This was probably in the early 1980s, and the world famous House Of Guitars store had a few of them in stock back then.
The best les paul I ever had was an early 70s Ibanez
I think i am addicted to this channel
That neck is the most beautiful neck I've ever seen on a guitar.
Just got my first Iceman...just a PS60 sparkle...but I'm gonna mod this baby out so thoughtfully...I already know it's going to be one of my top players 🤘🖤
Paul Stanley always had the coolest guitars
Greetings Austin! It looks like that would be a comfortable guitar to play, and I really like the wood grain all around, and on the headstock too, I have never seen that before. The contour on the back is a nice feature on that style of guitar. I would prefer on Explorer guitars with two pickups a four knob system with coil taps and a phase switch and treble bleed, but I wouldn’t mind that one as it is, it’s pretty nice, and is in great shape. It appears to have a three ply truss cover, white on black on white. It would be an awesome addition to anyone’s collection. Thank you for posting this video Austin! Please have an excellent and awesome Mother’s Day! 🙂
This guitar is awesome. I'd be curious to hear it !
I would totally dig you reviewing an Ibanez Iceman! Either the more recent IC520 or the crazy 210 Steve Miller played in the 70s with that triple humbucker.
Had a '78 Ibanez Iceman IC400 Tobacco Sunburst. Best Guitar I ever had next to my '79 Standard. The Iceman was a Magical Guitar.I would pick it up and it was just wonderful.I could do no wrong on it. Yes, I regret selling it.
Finally you cover an iceman!
Ha, nice! I've got '77 Ibanez 2650, 2651, and a 2387-CT so I appreciate the Ibanez references and seeing all 3 models get a few seconds of screen time. If you can get ahold of either of those 3 models they'd make for a killer review I'd suggest... super nice old guitars and '77 was a good year for the "copies" of the Gibsons.
Get it you know you want too I think we all want a demo now
I love the broken glass finish on the Ibanez!
I had an Iceman IC100 back in the late '70s/early '80s -- basically the least-fancy version Ibanez marketed at the time. It also had the fabled "flying finger" pickup covers. It was a nice axe, but the wide/thick neck wasn't great for my stubby fingers, so I ended up selling it in the early '90s. Wish I still had it.
the headstock reminds me of a Jackson Monarkh
Would I rock? Heck YES. Love the top and the controls would work for me, implying at least a volume for each pickup and a master tone.
I really like that Gibsanez.... I also really like the Iceman particularly the PS10 model. Thanks for showing.
My brother had a 76 Black and gold Ibanez Les Paul that was probably the nicest Les Paul I’ve ever played. Way nicer than the “real thing”.
I'm a KISS fan and a guitar collector. I'd say that this being a 1998 model lines up fairly well with Paul Stanley. He had a deal with Ibanez from 1992 til around 1996. He was using the Ibanez signature models through the early stages of the reunion tours, and in 1997 he had no endorsement deal with anyone, but continued to use the Ibanez guitars with the logo blacked out. In 1998 he had a deal with Washburn, this last til around 2002. With KISS being a hot mainstream commodity during the reunion tour, it seems to me that Gibson would definitely have tried to attract him. There would've been a strong marketing campaign, probably along the lines of KISS reunited with Gibson, as KISS were endorsed by Gibson in the early years.
The company who sues everyone all the time being hypocritical!Thats hilarious.
Thank You
I was shocked to see that Jackson made a new signature model guitar for Phil Collen from Def Leppard that bears an uncanny likeness to the Ibanez Destroyer Phil Collen model that Collen used back in the late 80s. I’ve always thought that if a company makes high enough quality guitars then they really shouldn’t be worried about other companies making similar looking models. Gibson have repeatedly lost court cases against other companies, most notably PRS. They apparently also lost a recent case regarding the Flying V shape being copied. They really should spend more time and money on the build quality and fit and finish of their current guitars instead of spending millions on attempting to sue other companies. One of my favourite guitars I own is a 1979 Gibson Flying V and that is a fantastic guitar but I’ve played more recent Gibson Vs that don’t come close to the older ones sadly.
Love the Iceman but this guitar knocks it outta’ the park for me as is. I’m rockin’ it for the long haul! I get that it’s too rounded although I’m looking past that, just not enough of a deterrent to me. Guess I’ll always love the oddballs & unusual.
I would never need to rock the Gibson Ice Man. Because my big brother owns a Paul Stanley Ibanez. I can just play his.😃
Brian Simpson awesome! I want one someday!
I would definitely rock that!
It looks nice and playable. They should make more. I would buy one.
The shape says “Explorer meets RD Artist” to me. Very cool.
Anyone else think an Iceman looks like an oversized beer bottle opener?
How would you know what Paul Stanley wants in a guitar?
The rear control cover is probably the standard '83-89 series Gibson Explorer rear control cover.
I have two of the Ibanez iceman ukuleles!
Hell yeah, looks like a rock n roll machine
Totally would rock this guitar!
I’d rock it, reminds me of my first and only Hondo explorer in the 80’s. I put a set of dirty fingers in it and it was awesome.
Heck yeah, I'd rock that! Love it!
That photo looks like Les Paul Stanley holding the PS Proto one off.
Love that body shape
You should look into the Gibson Explorer -> Ibanez Destroyer -> Ibanez Destroyer -> Jackson X-stroyer chain of guitars. It’s pretty interesting from a historical point of view. Also Phil Collin, Adrian Smith, and Dave Murray:)
And the Destroyer is mentioned twice, as the first was a copy, the second one is changed quite a bit.
Damn Ibanez and Jackson for not making new affordable versions :(
It's a coolstrosity.
ΧΡΗΣΤΟΣ ΣΧΟΙΜΠΟΝ excellent word!
it's not a binding on the truss rod cover. it's just like a lot of pickguards: 3 pli white on black on white plastic
This guitar was designed by Paul Stanley of KISS and is the Gibson Paul Stanley Model that never went into production.
One of the best guitars in my collection is my PS Iceman guitar and I got the cheapest one they offered lol. I just wanted a black Iceman and the Paul Stanley one was the only one in black. I grew up on KISS so having his name on it didn't bother me, I also have a Tommy Thayer Epiphone silver spaceman guitar that is killer!
Something I did not know was all the involvement in the guitar world that Paul Stanley is involved with. Those Zoot suit Gibson's? I can't say for sure but I think those were born from the mind of Paul Stanley! In a recent video about his KISS guitars, former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick is showing his late 80's ESP replica model of his guitar that he used during KISS's tour for their album "Asylum". Kulick says Stanley showed him the guitar and was explaining how you dye each layer of wood a different color and then sand it down to the different levels. The ESP version did not look at all like the Gibson's, I think they looked better actually. But check out the KISS song "Who wants to be lonely" and in the guitar solo part of the video you can see the guitar or go to Bruce Kulicks channel and watch the video, he just put it out a day or two ago. Paul Stanley helped Ibanez design the Iceman and he also worked with Washburn, ESP and I believe Dean as well.
I'd rock most definitely 👍 all that's missing is a locking Floyd Rose trem system
IMO it works very well. I wish I had the money for it
If you look up his Washburn PS2000 model, it looks a little bit closer to the guitar in this video.
PRS EG series (both core & SE)
PRS DC3
:these are things I wish folks knew about before they got so upset and bothered by the silver sky. I acknowledge the added element of John Mayer made it a different situation, but as a someone who’s played that brand for over 20 years, I just wish more people knew it wasn’t their first “s” style guitar which *might* have reduced the backlash and all the hubbub. 🤷🏻♂️
I have an Iceman. Off brand. Broken completely in half. KISS tribute band. Good times.
Say Austin, what is your opinion on the Washburn Paul Stanley Starfire? Which is a take on the classic Gibson Firebird V.
I love it!
It looks like one of the monstrosities that Dean came up with. Remember the "LesPlorer" thing? Aside from the Iceman, most of Paul Stanley's "signature" models seem to echo the Firebird he had in the early days.
Paul Keeps talking about oh gibson wouldn't go for what i wanted to do, and he did all those Washburns that mixed the Ibanez and Gibson models.
This was super cool! I've had some Iceman and Fireman guitars myself, the Fireman definitely reminded me of a Gibson vibe with the TOM bridge, 24.75" scale, thicker set in neck, 22 frets, and the mahogony body and neck. The Iceman I had was a rare IC507 7 string which was not as Gibson like but some of the more standard ones will get you there. The Destroyer and Artist models are worth looking into as well
Would love to see you review one of the Fireman models, Paul seems to have some old vintage lawsuit era Ibanez models so I'd guess it's very inspired by those
I love how this thing looks. I wish Ibanez would bring back the regular Iceman models
iceman shape is neck heavy. so more wood under the right arm would have helped with stability.
I would rock the heck out of this guitar!!!
The iceman is a classic. One of ibanez's best looking classic guitars.
@@DustinAlford yeah plus I've always loved the Iceman and I love Gibson styling, so it's a no brainer
Yeah I would rock that.
I know I liked the Dean baby Z from the 80s and the Cadillac. I wish the baby Z would have had flame tops and burst finishes. They might have sold more. We all like what we like irregardless of others opinions
Phantom build or Ghost builder looks like it out of the Ed Roman shop as they did Artist builds for Gibson
I dig it.looks kinda explorer
and d. The neck's insane.
I believe Gibson are in the process or already have an Ace Frehley 59 LP but the Black Beauty triple humbucker , don't think it has been released yet,
I'd say that guy isn't Paul Stanley. But I'd rock either one. The Gibson or the Ibanez.
Makes me want a DT555. Said it before, Austin you can really find some rare guitars,...
I've got a DG555... Beautiful guitar. There's a demo of it on Jason McNamara's channel. Only one on RUclips I believe...
Crazy they went with a 2 piece flamed neck when it could have been much easier to just do a flamed 2 piece headstock veneer.
Is that KISS’s manager Doc what’s-his-name in that picture?
PLEASE REVIEW AN ICEMAN !!!!!!
I was thinking this was an early 80s things when Paul was playing Hamers. I could be wrong though.
Love it- Rock it!
I'm not into the harsh edged guitar's like this or the flying V destroyer or explorer, I'm a traditionalist with a hint of a modern touch, I'm liking the PRS guitars I'm seeing lately, even the lower of the budget end guitars got nice finishes, inlays, and decent hardware, I was always a fender or Gibson fan but PRS I'm going to have to try out
The Ibanez Paul Stanley model is technically not an Iceman . It might be what they call it now , but the 70's originals PS models were never advertised as an Iceman . This info I obtained from 90's Paul Stanley interviews. The broken glass thing is referred to as "Fractured Mirror" , not to be confused with the Ace Frehley track of the same name ! 🤟😝🎸
I just got an Ibanez Fireman guitar and it's fabulous. You should definitely check one out if you get the chance. I've got the 100 version with the 3 single coils.
Sweet mother of pearl! I like this one. But I bet it's a 5 or 6 figure price tag. (American dollars)...😣
I would love too have this guitar
I can buy this being a 90s one-off. Paul Stanley brought his old Iceman guitars out of storage for the Revenge tours in 1992-1993.
I actually saw this very guitar on the old (much better!) Gibson Custom Shop website, the one they had when the Gibson Custom Shop was an actual real Custom Shop and not just a sales gimmick used to try to justify ludicrously overpriced models. Yeah, anyway, they were offering this guitar for sale and while they didn’t actually name the artist it was initially built for the model designation had ‘PS’ in it which was a kinda’ huge giveaway (as well as the obvious Paul Stanley design details). It said that the guitar was built for the unnamed artist but was never delivered to/accepted by the artist so that’s why they were offering it for sale. I guess the business/endorsement side of things fell through.
YES, please! I'd totally be interested in an Ibanez Iceman review! Best if it was one with Ibanez' version of the Floyd Rose, too! Cheers, V. :-)
Yes
Honestly, I just love this. It is gorgeous, but I could do with a new paint job hahah.
Just a pretty guitar
Before Paul Stanley started using Ibanez Icemans, the back of KISS albums included the text,
"KISS uses Gibson Guitars and Pearl Drums because they want the best." Although Paul and Gene switched to other brands, Ace Frehley continued playing Gibsons after that text disappeared from their albums. Gibson must have been trying to woo Paul back. That quote made me want a Gibson guitar. Paul also appeared in print ads for Gibson Marauders (his guitar of choice for smashing.) i.ebayimg.com/images/g/zcwAAOSwbURcz4Hw/s-l300.jpg flashbak.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/IMG_0008.jpg
Buy it!
The Inferno guitars were built for Motörhead and their album of the same name.
Looks far more like Paul's Washburns, which he played after the reunion tour before he went back to Ibanez.
PRS Silver Sky, EB Music Man Cutlas, strat killers man.
In the Photo, it looks like Les Paul!
