Michael Schenker is known for the black and white Flying V, it is his trademark. He couldn't decide on which finish, so chose both on the one guitar. Rudolf asked Michael if he could have one the same and Michael agreed.
Was a huge SCORPIONS fan back in the 1980's , the ' Black out ' album cover , then there is ' The ZOO ' , such a great guitar sound , and yeah the pickguard looks so weird in some lighting ( where it looks brown ), though it's a cool guitar ! Thanks Trog !
I have one of these. The black side of the pickguard isn't red, it came as black but fades out over time to like a brownish red color and that's just how it looks after 10 or so years. Mine did the same thing. It is kind of irritating that Gibson couldn't get the color right. I didn't know there were only 400 of these made, that's awesome and makes mine more valuable.
I had an all cream colored 1981 Flying V with that volute, the rounded headstock, chrome covers over the pickups, and it looked a lot like that one. The bone nut was poorly cut when I got it new.
Depends on the side of the globe your on. In the US everybody knows Rock you like a hurricane. In Europe everybody knows Winds of Change and send me an Angel.
@@chriscarol4965 Perhaps. I’m in the antipodes, fwiw … Hurricane is a generic, power chord chug song, with ho-hum lyrics … whereas Change is much better arranged, has much better/more distinct verses and bridge, and the lyrics especially are so much better. Also, not only is it about something; it’s about everything that was happening in that era … because if this and the clip even, it harnesses nostalgia better too. The truss rod cover should have been half and half as well, but reversed. The black half of the cover should go on the white side, and vice versa. Then put the Gibson logo right down the middle.
what i Would like to see is a reissue custom shop of the green faded Sonic blue flying V of Lenny Kravitz. The one used live and in the are u gonna go my way video. The Flying V that made me love this guitar.
Hey Trogly the guitar is cool but, that pick guard is horrid. I wish they would go with square inlaid instead of dots. I own 5 or 6 v's all different ages even one with 3 pickups pretty tight fit but sounds awesome. I'm sick and I know it but i cant stop collecting what I like. The other thing is I wish the would put the Gibson logo on the guitar instead of it being on the truss rod cover. Just saying I know there pretty tight on the head stock. My wife likes that I have a hobby but she says I'm out of control says I should sell some of them but when you have the fever you know how it is I'm in love with all of them.
What about those 70’s reissue for Japan models they had about that time? Those are about the same guitar with a conventional paint scheme. A white a black and a sunburst one. I wonder if the neck carve is the same on those? I got a sunburst one and it has the volute, the granadillo fingerboard, the small headstock but 57 classic plus in the bridge and a 57 classic in the neck.
Hey Trogly, I bought a Schenker Flying V new back in 2013. The pickguard was black/white but the black faded to a reddish brown color. There is no black/white or reddish brown/white option. The pickguard has faded!
Drives me nuts when people say "Gibson USA". LOL As if Gibson USA and Gibson Custom were 2 different companies or brands or something. Or that "Gibson Custom" implies something of a higher quality. They're all Gibsons, whether a regular production model or, a custom run. There is no such thing as Gibson USA as a branding. Never has been. And there's always been a custom shop, just not always at a different address. And if a model like this was made in limited number with unique specs, guess what? That's a custom run, not a regular production model. Regardless of which address Gibson made them at. And it doesn't matter if it was made in Nashville, Kalamazoo, Memphis, etc... Still all Gibsons.
Anyone think what Trogley opened with sounds like the Sasquatch song? Many think that thein Scorpions are a band from the 80s. But Rudolph Schenker formed the band in 1965. Their longest existing line up was from 1978 to 1992.
Yes, let’s have a full on Custom Shop Murphy Lab aged replica for 10k+. Can’t have those dirty poors getting their hands on them and actually playing them.
Why are you whining? He wasn't implying to make a version to piss on the poor. You even implying that reflects far worse on you than him. He just wants Gibson to make one that is legitimately a replica. Rudolph Schenker deserves. Yeah it would be expensive and way out of my price point. But that doesn't mean the artist doesn't deserve to have one high end replica made to celebrate being a Gibson artist for so long.
Rudolph stole that design from his brother Mike who also played in the scorpions . Take a history dive and you will see who was playing that style first . Mike got the boot from the band and his brother try’s to be like him after . Very strange dude .🤷🏻♂️ heard the story from interviews mike has done more recently . Wonder why godson would even make one for Rudolph but that’s on them . Looks cool tho not gonna lie .
It’s a nice guitar. I remember when Obama’s 3 letter agency raided the Gibson factory (swat style) and took all the rosewood. Anyway, I like your idea of a Murphy Lab Custom Shop model and bet it’ll come soon.
Nah Gibson is good I own two and both guitars are top tier worth the money I plan on getting a 61 Les Paul SG Custom soon as well maybe they used to be shit but now their on the right track
Is this a re-release of an old episode? I swear he reviewed this before.
yes, he was 30 lbs heavier around the mid section lol
ubr correct, he circled the whole roladex and is now back to the A's....
It has to be - also his vocal mic is crystal clear instead of the muffled sound of the last six months.
I remember the fixed handle and that he already sold it in a VLOG.

That fingerboard puts me in mind of those on 60s Rickenbacker models.

That thing looks awesome wish half the truss rod cover was maroon or red like the pick guard
Was thinking the same.
Ok, so you want a Gibson Custom Shop full fledged reissue? I want an Inspired by Gibson, Epiphone version!
Too cool you got one Trog, those were a pain in the butt to paint. Getting the split right is harder than you would think. Great video
Seen this before. Anyone else? Or am i having a stroke?!! 😂
Stunning and loved it when it was passed onto Michael. I have the 2018 Gibson Heavy Metal V myself.

Agree with you. Helluva nice chime both clean and dirty
That red pickguard is horrid.
Yeah…looks odd
yes! Should be black and white.
Yeap.
I dig it!! It's a tribute to Rudy, not you. Respect his taste Karen
Yeah, that red looks more brown than red. It's pretty hideous.
I have a black Flying V 70s one of my favorites and Rudy Schenker is def one of the reasons why those are cool
Did you get a new mic Trogly? The audio sounds CRISP- I like it!
Is this a repost? I’ve seen this before! I’m sure of it!
Thank god someone is finally bringing this issue to light!

If Harvey Dent had a guitar
The side of that granadillo board looks amazing next to the black side of the neck.
Re upload crew
The only thing I hate about this guitar is the fretboard, that really pale brown, man. But I love the Schenker sig.
Love that neck profile.
My Fav guitar has a .85 FFND to .95
Also classic, classic + setup
Could be tricking me, but it seems the black/white line isn't centered on the headstock.
It's time to do a Dean Michael Schenker V. Rudolph isn't half the player that Michael is.
These remind me of the Black & White Cookie Seinfeld episode … aesthetically, I’m not a fan …
Look to the cookie, Elaine!
blood dries brownish , red would hide any damaged fingers ,bleeding cuticle.,etc.
I'm surprised you haven't done a review of the new Studios yet. Or the new Sweetwater LP Standards.
I want to argue that Wind Of Change is better known - and a far better song - than Rock You Like A Hurricane … 🤔

I have an Ibanez RG550DX with a Granadillo fretboard which is apparently from the same family as Rosewood & looks great when conditioned.
The truss rod cover should have been half and half as well, but reversed. The black half of the cover should go on the white side, and vice versa. Then put the Gibson logo right down the middle.
