A 200g cake has a CATO 1/2 way through and blows up in my backyard! So I added another demo on to let you guys have a decent video 🙂. #firework_misshap
I found out that if I put the wrong size, either ball shell and maybe smaller size canister, shells in the wrong size tube that they will sound like they’re shooting up in the air with that thump…… but they only go about 10 feet off of the ground and explode! I know it was sort of foolish and careless of me but at the time it was pretty neat. Lol. Great demos. Love love love me some fireworks…. Year round enthusiast.
Yes, tube diameter is very important. I actually did an experiment in an older video "getting ready for the eclipse" where I tested out ball shells in dr11 tubes to make sure I wouldn't have low breaks during my actual show. 🙂
Of course it happens from time to time I had a 5” canister exploded at the top of the tube, 200g tip over then it stood back up right. Good Video & always be safe 🔥🔥
Damn man! I'm glad you're okay! Fairly, it's really a numbers game. If we all shoot cans all the time, someone will have a CATO eventually. The real key is to stay safe all the time and be prepared!

Man I had a 10 shot 500g that blew apart like that one... 4th shot it blew apart and all the other mortars flew 20-30' away and all lit... Always give a cool down if you can before heading out man!!
When a cake goes bad it can be scary. I had a 100 shot 500 gram cake do that 2 years ago. Always wise to give the failed firework a cool down period and then douse with water like you did. Nice demo
Thanks, glad you liked the video. I probably should have let it cool down longer but it was actually the first cake of the night. I was chomping at the bit to light some fuses!
I also had a cake blow up on me (TNT's Chopper - the side blew out). I've also had tubes blow out on fountains. It happens. The shells were pretty good.
I have had this happen a few times and some years stock are more likely to do this i have found over the years corner cutter years in china dunno but it really sucks on a large 500gram cake :)
Last year was at my buddies day after fourth set of some fireworks we weren’t rlly smart we where intoxicated and setting off 200 gram cakes and canister shells off the porch we were on one tipped hit us all looked like ww3 but thankfully we where all safe just a few burns on us after that just know we learned are lesson lol don’t drink and set fireworks 10 feet of people lol
Wow! Yeah, I was lighting up fireworks after a bunch of beers last July 3. I blew up a mini-canister upside down and wound up jumping over a star. Also melted holes in my pool tubes lighting rockets on the deck. Not one of my brightest moments! Suffice to say, I stay clear headed until after the explosives these days 😅
Well you can only warn people so much before you just let nature sort itself out. Constantly using 1 tube to constantly fire off canister shells eventually is going catastrophic. Sure enough at shell number 8. BOOM . I warned them to either slow down or use a few tubes. Everyone was fine but at least it scared them into listening I like the NEON shells. Fairly symmetrical and seems to be decent quality
I've heard enough about cans CATOing that I actually only use my tubes once per shoot. Also, I've only shot them out of DR 11 and not used the fiberglass ones included in the kits. That being said, I've saved all those fiberglass tubes and might build a rack for them to give them a try.

Wow! It would be really neat to see what happens when a tube blows out of a fountain (from a distance). I bet that was pretty cool to watch.
