I've had my 2013 for almost 3 years now and I still love it. Car takes a beating and keeps on going. Got 140k and no repairs, just maintenance and cleaning sensors. The auto transmission is one of the best I've driven, predictable and precise. Takes curves beautifully even with old stock suspension.
If you’re considering buying a 2010-2013 Mazda 3, BUY IT! I bought my 2010 GX almost 2 years ago and I’m confident saying these cars will never let you down. Mine is at 160,000 Km’s lived through over ten -45 Fahrenheit Canadian winters and started up every day. and plus it has little to no rust with all the salt we use on the roads. Transmission and engine are running strong. Imo much better than the corolla, for the smaller price you get much more tech like Bluetooth and a sunroof. The only thing you have to look out for in these cars is they scape their fronts on EVERYTHING (they hate steep driveways)
P
still recommend ? i’ve been saving since March for one
Bought a 2012 today for $8400
Best to get the 2012-2013 with the SkyActive engine and 6-speed manual transmission for performance and fuel efficiency for the buck.
Such a great car really. I bought my 2012 hatchback with the 6spd manual and I fricking love it. It rides amazing, handles great and looks great. Hatchbacks are the waves
Do you still feel this way? My mom is planning on buying me a used 2012 Mazda 3 even though I initially wanted a Honda Civic (reliability you know. I’m past that phase of wanting a “nice looking car” and I’m now looking for something long lasting). Any cons to the car? I got scammed twice (my parents have bad taste lmao) and wanted to buy a car that won’t screw me over and actually last me throughout college.
I've had mine since April 2013, now has 20,000 miles - love it. Great gas mileage, averaging 34. I live in a big city with stop-and-go traffic. This little car is fast and fun.
Do you still have it , how's it working now
This is the best review I have ever watched! You thought of things to review and focus on that I wouldn't have and that honestly never happens. Well done and thank you so much! Other reviewers, please take note on how a solid review is done from start to finish!
Joe None Listed AlexonAutos does better reviews than anyone out there, more detailed than this old channel
Good job honestly great review. Very in depth, i'm buying the 13" model next week!!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!

@@austinsosnowski3289 Did you get it? I have the 2013 2.0 skyactiv 6-speed, I love it. Wish it was a 2.5 but it's still fun. I'll be tuning it and upgrading header soon
Just bought this finally after owning a 2006 Mazda 3 for all these years...I am in 7th Heaven and thank you for such an amazing tutorial! You saved me by explaining all in so much detail.
you know SaabKyle04 its because of you i bought this car, like literally the exact same car. apart from a lighter blue and the non sky activ engine i own literally the exact same car. Its also because of you my dad recently purchased a Cadillac ATS after viewing your video on it. seriously man credit where its due...
Honestly, Kyle. I've seen your videos from 2009 all the way up to now with your new focus on DIY projects. I gotta say, IMO, 2011 is when your review procedure really took off!! Well done!!
I don't understand how someone could dislike a video by saabkyle04
You're camera control is impeccable. Thanks for your review!
This is the most in-depth video review I've ever seen. This is the EXACT car I'm looking to buy (Blue/Dune, manual transmission, hatchback) and I came across your review. If that isn't a sign, I don't know what is. Super-helpful, thanks!
Can anyone comment on the reliability of this car now that it's been 7 years? How has Skyactiv engine held up with consistent maintenance? Anyone getting to 200k with no issues? Interested in buying this car used so interested to hear everyone's thoughts.
i regret buying my 03 mazda 6 and finally getting rid of it for a Civic but its good to see that the company has vastly improved its build quality.
best all around car for MPG, fun, and practicality IMO
Good thing they sent you a car with a proper manual gearbox, which when a car has an optional manual, its always better. Nice car
First off I must say best car review I’ve ever seen, and I know this car is 6 years old now but I’m hopefully gonna pick one up sometime this week! Absolutely can’t wait I’m a sucker for hatched and I also love Mazda haha
A beautifully done video review, it's almost like we're at the dealership together going over the car. Keep 'em coming, and good luck in the future sir!
Kei
Definitely you never cease to amaze. Best car reviews on RUclips by far!
the bass in those stock speakers is amazing..
Thanks for the review. I live in the UK and I'm picking up a secondhand Mazda 3 hatch next week and I'm so exited as it's packed with exiting gadgets!
I am very curious too, I work in parts at a Mazda dealer, over 200 sold since November at that location, now considering buying one myself, I've already started seeing some with 20k miles only coming in for regular maintenance and no complaints, everyone's loving it so far
I have this car and it's amazing!
Great review! I'm getting the 2011 model one next week. Used of course, but i am excited! It's a nice looking car, and also 4 door, which is very useful! Again, great review!
I bought my '12 Skyactiv about a month ago and I absolutely love it, it's great on gas and rides beautifully. I only wish the handling was a little more tight but a 6spd miata gearbox makes up for it :)
That exhaust actually sounds pretty good.
Thanks for the awesome review!
I just found you for the first time but now that I have, I have subscribed to your channel. You are definitely one of the best reviewers on RUclips.
One of the best car reviews ive seen on youtube, if not the best very great job man
Are Mazda 3 hatchbacks good first cars?
tristan whitney They're great first cars. They don't sacrifice any fun-factor for fantastic reliability. I'd recommend a hatchback with a stick 😉
i just got this exact car for my first car, and it is a really easy drive for someone new to driving. i recommend it.
@@bmkbbk123 how much and how many miles??
I've had my skyactiv 3 for about a month now. I have the sedan version with the 6spd auto and I gotta say it's probably the best car i have ever driven. I have the touring trim so im without a sunroof 6cd changer and navigation but I have an iphone doing double duty. it's got me covered on navigation, and since it's 64 gigs and I have it fully loaded, there's no need for a 6 disc changer.
best review done in a professional way. details from a to z.
i just bought a mazda3 skyactiv 4door sedan. Great car nothing drives like a mazda
I didn't think it would have the same longitudinal rear legroom, despite being longer than the Focus and V40 with which it shares a platform.
• BL, measures 4,505 mm (177.4 inches).
• C346, measures 4,358 mm (171.6 inches).
• V40, measures 4,369 mm (172.0 inches).
But surprisingly less rear space than the Golf (5G) at 4,255 mm (167.5 inches), in exterior length.
You are the God of cars, admire you, I spend hours watching your reviews, I live in Chile, in Chile speak Spanish, but I also speak a little English and I have 12 years old, I love cars, and would love to be like you, as an adult.
Greetings :)
most informative video i've been able to find on this car. well done sir! I will be buying one in the next couple weeks and this helped a lot
for gas wise mpg is whats important these days
The best low budget compact cars are now Mazda's and Toyota's. I've driven nothing but Hondas for the last 15 years....but their design got uglier and uglier. Mazda 3 Hatchback and Toyota Matrix are my favorites now.
Stereo sounds amazing from what I hear through the camera's mic and my headphones. I like this little car.
i had a 2010 1.6 gasoline sedan in britain. the suspension is very compitant with the communicative steering wheel makes this a very fun car to drive. the seats are only really fit for driving for less than 2 hours anymore and you will know about it and the road noise was noticeable and tiring, oh and that soft touch dash makes cleaning the windscreen difficult to clean aswell as being difficult to clean itself. all of the dash lights can be adjusted.
keep the videos coming man.
been watching kyles vids since before the fame and nuthin really changed about him thats what i like dont change for nobody bro!!! stay true
Great review. Really enjoyed it. Really helped me narrow down my choices! Thanks!
Great Review! Purchased one today.
no he pressed the horn sounds really cool
If case anybody else heard it and got interested, the song that plays on the radio between 16:30 and 18:15 is "Say You'll Haunt Me" by Stone Sour.
Respect man,you can drive a manual transmissioned car. That's unique in the USA.
I'm in the process of buying this car in the Touring level. Same colors inside & out perchance! Same year! Glad I watched this video! I like how your phone connects to the car for the hands-free thing. Amazing differences over-all. With so many features similar to the 2nd gen Probes. Just upgraded with higher tech than was available in the 2nd gen Probe SE's I've owned. So much cool stuff in these cars! And USB connectors in the center console too. I'm getting the ATX with the Tiptronic shifting option. Being a 6 speed too, that should be fun? Wish I didn't have to wait a couple weeks to get it into Cleveland from Delaware. Low miles and like new...oh yeah...
In all honesty, its a great car, not my first choice if i was looking to buy, but also not the last choice. Great car though, i like it. Mazda sure has advanced over the years.
Just had my parents pick me up a 12 down south. Cant wait to go grab it. Got a GT model
I must say, I'm surprised that this car has an exhaust note. Nice to see automakers making cars more interesting.
This is the car I would get if I were shopping for a new ride.
I bought a SkyActiv Mazda 3 after test-driving Elantra, Veloster, Focus, Civic, Cruze, and Golf. Although its entertainment system is quite dated compared to its competitors, I couldn't pass its incredible handling and steering. Also, the exhaust note is as adequate as can be heard in this video.
I recommend test-driving this car if car isn't a sort of appliance to you.
the transmission on the 2009-present Mazda 3
Transmission
4-speed automatic
5-speed automatic
5-speed manual
6-speed manual
Depends on what you mean by many choises, but every single european hatchback or car in this category is offered at least in 3 body styles (3 door, 5 door, wagon), and some in sedan styles. They all offer a full range or petrol and diesel engines (more than 10 different engines usually), ranging from under 100hp to over 250hp, with multiple gearbox choices and any equipment spec you can wish. You can customize absolutely anything. While Mazda 3 offers only 2 petrol engines and 1 diesel.
the 2009-present Mazda 3 is assembled in
Kulim, Malaysia
Rayong, Thailand (Start on February 2011)
Tehran, Iran
Hofu, Japan
Bogotá, Colombia
Pretoria, South Africa
Kyle, I watched this video yesterday and convinced it me to buy a Mazda3 today. With imaginary money :/
Ive had my sedan skyactive 6spd for almost a month. Ive never had so much fun during my commute to work
my dad has pretty much the same car, his is just a sedan. withe the 6spd it is so much fun to drive!!! best manual transmission ive ever driven, & its super sporty. i drive it anytime i can, lol :P
Allow me to phrase it a different way. I do enjoy your videos (I've watched about 300/400 I'd say) and I do agree with you that the way you do it now is simple and easy to follow, but in my opinion the predictability kinda takes away the excitement. There have been a few videos where you changed things up a bit and it brought back some of the excitement I felt when I first started watching. You are easily the best on RUclips for this stuff, but as a viewer this is just how I see things.
at the risk of sounding rude, haven't you ever seen a car with airconditioning? Water condensation within the system is piped to the outside, with the exit usually being near the firewall. If the car is at a standstill, it drips and will puddle or run off depending on the angle of the surface the car is on
Oh yeah you're right. I did a quick google search and a ton of forum posts came up with that same complaint. People in hot places such as Texas and Florida get pretty much no relief with the AC in that car. My Mom's 09 Sentra is good and my Dad's 11 TL is very good too but my old beat up Max has the best, back when fuel economy and efficiency wasn't much of a concern.
Wow you are so freaking professional in what you are doing! congrats kyle, i really admire you
I recently turned 16 and bought this as my first car. This review has been quite helpful and made me feel good about my decision. But being a teenager I feel that I want to put new rims on it. I need more opinions, will black look good on this car?
yes
For those who don't see Kyle's facebook fan page...
the next two car to the "In Depth Review" are an fully loaded Outlander Sport and a fully loaded Kia Rio hatchback
I have a protege5 and I wish I could upgrade to a Mazda3. I like the front end look on the protege5 more then the Mazda3, but the rear of the Mazda3 is one of the best rear ends I have ever seen.
well that's why you have different cars with different engines and power and still offer great mpg
exhuast sounds soo much better from the back
I noticed you were driving around with the A/C in recirculating mode. Is the A/C still weak on the new Mazda3? That was one of the major complaints about the first generation, and it was definitely true in my 2008 Mazda3 -- in humid weather above 90 degrees or so, I pretty much needed to keep the A/C running full blast (fan speed 3 with recirc on) all the time just to stay comfortable.
Jesus talk about informative! good job. intense info
The good thing is that it doesn't drive like its in Eco mode, when the 3 gets the full skyactiv treatment life will be good, and hopefully that means it gets new kodo design too.
this dude is like a robot, every video with the exact same script
Without further ado...
Let's check out the exterior shall we
Good car. Excelent video Kyle! Your personal views just give the video a whole new style. keep up the good work!
yeah once your phone or ipod is connected via bluetooth, you can play music without a cord. you just press the aux button on the dash and it plays the music on your device
Good job. I just bought one and this video was very helpful. Thanks.
Thank god it's a manual! This is one of my favorite cars in this class and i'd take it over a Focus or Elantra anyday! I just love how Mazda gives u so many choices, u can get sedan or hatch, manual or auto, economy or powerful. It's just a very customizable car and I would get one just like the one in this video!
I think this will be my next car, thanks to your video and all the information and then a great story in Motor Trend about it being best in MPG. The Mazda 3 is a great car at a great price with most all of the major options you could ask for. Thanks for all the information.
It's cool that you combined review and test-drive this way. Great. I liked.
best review iv seen on youtube! thanks alot! i just grab myself the sedan version right after watchin
It's actually 48 MPG highway and 33 City. By what their website says.
No, the first-gen Mazda3 was notorious for weak A/C -- many, many complaints about it. I'm just wondering if they really improved it on the current Mazda3 or not.
Best car review channel on youtube.
Super job Kyle...love the way you pieced together this video. Keep it up
Thanks for the video - that was the best Mazda 3 review I saw today.
I find the backseat of the golf more roomy than the Mazda 3 and the build quality too, not saying that the Mazda is poorly built, there's just little things that you start to notice when you drive it... But the Mazda is definitely a good value, loaded will run you about $25k where a loaded Golf is around $29k.
If you want the manual, you might want to check if you can get it with a sunroof. In america you can't get a sunroof at all with a manual.
What is that metal knocking sound at 6.45 from the engine? Is that normal for mazda?
It is since it's a direct injection motor
I think the plastic piece splits the air flow into the lower part of the engine bay while keeping the drag coefficient as low as it is.
Please review the new Mazda3 :)
I almost had one just like that but with a black cloth interior and an automatic
+Fredrick Altenhoff Same here, but mine is the sedan.
Great video introduction! I get the exact same car in a few days and look forward to it! Thanks again.
Kyle! I see you are driving fine with manual transmission ! Way to go Kyle :)
Yes you can do it! In my country you have to pass the drivers license test with manual car.
I do have a manual car, and everytime i try another manual car, it takes a couple of times to get it moving smoothly. Only bad thing with manual is hill start.
But I prefer auto transmission but its so expensive here...
for a four banger that exhaust sounds epic
I Love my 2012 Mazda 3 use to have a 2007 they are just a great car for the money
Nice car. I don't really see the point of Skyactiv. It's basically a full time Eco mode on a car. Great video
good job Kyle, Mazda looks better every year.
does this car have a USB connection?? or is it just an auxiliary port in the center console??
You got to love the sound at 01:44
it's called "kiss me." that was my sisters favorite song when she was like 4.
it wasn't meant negatively, I think it is impressive that he sticks to the same shit in every video. It isn't like he is reading a script or something it is exactly the same format every time from memory.
dont worry about the negativity Kyle love all your videos man...keep them coming my friend...but have you did a Bugatti Veyron yet?
