Shane Hamman has broken the clean and jerk and snatch records. Mario Martinez has also held those records prior to Hamman. But weightlifting since 1972 has become a different sport.
Ken was telling a story on a a wrestling shoot interview where he was walking into a bar to put away some beers and he bought a pack of cigarettes....it was an innocuous comment on his part , but an Olympic champ and world class athlete drinking and smoking not to mention the McDonald's hamburgers he was looking to purchase the night he was arrested with Mr saito...the world let alone athletics was a a different universe back then..

I tried this.......Unfortunately, I shit all over the front windshield of the truck, the driver put the wipers on, which prevented him from seeing me waiving my hands for him to stop.
@@chrisruth7057 On what basis was Scott Norton or Studd stronger? They may have been bloated and big but what were their lifts? I'm sure Henry was a stronger deadlifter because he concentrated on that but stronger in olympic lifting? Not really. Henry managed to snatch a bit more but Patera pressed more. Arcidi was the best bench presser.
RF John when it comes to ken Panera, give him credit where credit is due. Kill that jealousy. If you have powerlift the way ken patera did. You probably may have won some trophies as well. Accept that fact...... the first American to press over 500 lbs. I won a recreational tournament when I leg pressed 1000 pounds for 25 reps without stopping. Did good morning work out with 300 pounds on my neck and shoulders. Did pullovers with 250 pounds for 15 reps. Held all the weight up on the leg extension machine with a person hanging onto my legs. Had 3 200 pound men stand on my torso while I laid on the floor.

Not taking anything away from Patera but I'll bet there was a cable or chain hooked to the back of the truck . That's probably why they didn't show the back of it . Doing something like that for real would be too dangerous.
Mark Henry blew the whistle on his own feat like this. They put a bunch of grease under the drive tires. By the looks of the back tire they showed, you can see a bit of shininess right in front of it.
Says he didnt believe in ped' s but admits to 6wk cycles b4 his power lifting tournaments ...ummmmmm sorry but he sounds pretty unintelligent w those statements
Sorry but Ken never set world records or was first man to press 500 pounds. While he was very strong 550 pound push press off rack he just didn't have technique. IF he had continued Olympic lifting after 1972 he could have competed for world championships against Alexeev but he went to wrestling.
Gotta love the way pro-wrestling "inflates" accomplishments. I think the only "world record" achievement Ken ever set in weightlifting was being the first to successfully clean 500 lbs in competition. Unfortunately, just cleaning that weight is not treated as a record. I'll have to dig deeper but seem to recall Ken pulled that off in 1969 or 1970. The story is that when he then tried to complete the lift, the platform broke underneath him and he had to drop the weight. Regardless, Ken was crazy strong but nagging injuries from being late-starter in the sport and insufficient technique prevented him (and us fans) from finding out what his max capability could have been. Perhaps the other world record achievement was joining the 600 kg club for the combination of the Clean & Press, Snatch and Clean & Jerk.
Ken Patera is a beast!
Stop hating on ken Panera. Have you ever lifted weights before. He was the first American to press over 500 lbs. he won weightlifting medals.
525 last night Boyeeeee
The only American to have pressed over 500 pounds.
Jack Patera, Ken’s brother, was the first head coach of the Seahawks
Patera was scary strong before he got hurt and went to jail.
Patera was a great heel and beast in the 80s.
He took on 15 cops so there's something to say about that
Before he bleached his hair blonde lol
Ken walks the walk. America's first strongman. 🇺🇸
Ken records are still intact. Mark Henry never beat his records.

I think he was in the ring with a young Ricky Fleir (Naitch if you will)
