I remember playing Drakengard. I also remember the final boss. The Rhythm. The Bells. Christ the bells. Circling in a loop around a giant white grotesque statue of a woman while trying to keep in tune. The hours I endured, the three remotes I destroyed. and the feeling of relief after victory. And then I see a similar giant statue appear as this fight begins. And I see the same rhythm circles that haunted be years back. And soon I realize... Very Fast Actually in the Drakengard series, specifically in the first Drakengard, the giant white statues are literally referred to as "grotesque" or "grotesqueries" in racial terms. When I refer to the statue as grotesque, I mean to do so echoing the official term used to coin the boss that you are fighting.
Very Fast It's pretty fucking grotesque if you think about it. Several enormous, half bodies of women floating in the sky, skin taut, connected to this flower shape, completely white eyes.
When Mikhail starts talking and when they show the pigeons, it's just so sad. I know Zero wasn't the greatest friend ever but it still sad for Mikhail and the disciples
It's very unfair for Mikhail. He's so innocent and pure, that he deserved so much more. But well, that part of the "magic" of the stories of Yoko Taro, endings that left a hollow and never happy.
"You've grown strong, Mikhail" "Zero... Zero, you big dummy!" Hey remember how Zero says in like the first mission that she'll stop calling Mikhail "dummy" once he's worthy of that name? Yeah they reversed it... this part slays me every time.
Zero: once there flower is in bloom you have to destroy it The dragon: ok so fly around them while the cameraman has a seizure and block their attack like I'm in a rhythm game. Ok
@@StarrySkykes Within the Drakenguard / Nier universe, anything using Angelic Script is typically associated with the Watchers. Which are eldritch horror-like beings from outside our reality whose only desire is the complete eradication of humanity. In this case the 'Flower' that was bloomed inside Zero's eye was of the Watcher's design. If allowed to fully bloom and complete it's song without Mikhail here countering it, it would 'sing' the end of the world into being.
I am both cracking up with masochistic joy and also burning with hatred that they did this for a final boss. God. Dammit. ...still that's a GORGEOUS final boss theme.

Who is Accord anyway? She says she is an android from an era long gone. Yet, there exists many of her, and she seems to be able to remember and travel to different time periods, timelines, and dimensions.
@@manuelalbertoromero9528 Cathedral City in Drakengard's timeline may well be a piece of another world. It did appear overnight and threw medieval Europe into chaos. I like to think that there's yet another band of people who tried to save their own world from The Flower and ended up yeeting the place The Flower was residing at to another dimension (Drakengard's), and these people are long forgotten, just like Zero, her sisters and the disciples were by the time Drakengard 1 happens. So let me get this straight... this is a boss that involves an 8 minute long rhythm game that's devoid of visual cues? I already feel an aneurysm coming on...
There is videos in YT that adds visual crues to beat the boss, and reduce the difficulty greatly. But yes, it's annoying that a boss with so beautiful music and coreography is so troll at the same time
@@gatts1989 The video doesn't work, because the game framerate is inconsistent and so the timing constantly change between console. It can only be used if you emulate with no frameloss.
Yes, this is the same VA that voiced Edelgard Von Hresvelg in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. With this, you just know how in character she was even back then.
Supposedly the reason why the last boss is a rhythm game is becuz there is no longer a reason to kill anymore. No more blood needs to be shed becuz all who need to die to save the world have already been killed.
Unpopular opinion but i think these camera angles are intentional, replaying Drakengard 3 recently and i've noticed there's a pattern on each intoner. Zero's Part 3:07 - It has no camera issues, she being kind of a warm up session ; Five's Part 4:38 - The camera tends to zoom out further than usual ; Four's Part 5:08 - It's mostly normal other than the camera being in weird angles at times ; Three's Part 5:57 - The camera would zoom up close to Three's face ; Two's Part 6:42 - The camera would zoom up close to Mikhail's face ; One's Part 7:15 - Really, the camera would just go ape shit crazy, panning everywhere ; When all the intoners starts dancing together, u can see that all 6 of the intoner's pattern would occur subsequently. 7:50 - 7:58 (no camera issues) [Zero's] 7:58 - 8:09 (camera zooming out) [Five's] 8:09 - 8:19 (weird camera angles) [Four's] 8:19 - 8:29 (camera zooming in on Zero's face) [Three's] 8:29 - 8:40 (camera zooming in on Mikhail's face) [Two's] 8:40 - 8:50 (Camera going ape shit) [One's] Thought it was a cool small little detail and wonder if it was intentionally when making it, nonetheless this boss is a piece of shit.
When it goes back to singing Kuroi Uta, I just wanna cry. I really thought this Drakengard was just going to be a sexy, bloody rampage, but it turned out to have its heartwrenching moments. ...Still not as ridiculously dark as the first, of course xD Thanks for uploading!
I was actually feeling really really good about myself cause i defeated this boss! it was really easy the feeling after you do the last rhythm pattern, but then i woke up...
I can't think of another full credit sequence in any medium where the entire cast and crew, every contributor in every unit, is listed alphabetically. What class, to acknowledge a work as an all-hands effort.

I'm proud I have this game's platinum trophy. I actually beat this boss 3 times, once on my game, and twice more for a couple friends. I earned $40 from them to beat it.
Must be awesome to have friends who love playing games like these with you! Mine only plays multiplayer stuff and almost never stop for any storytelling ones 🥺
I will be one to admit that I haven't played Drakengard 3, but I did EVERYTHING possible in Drakengard 1, and I at least appreciate that this pays homage to the boss fight in Ending E of Drakengard 1, that leads into the story of Nier Gestalt and Nier Replicant.
thing is because of this game the ycan do at least 1 more following this ending path really where many years later of events of drag on dragoon 2 happen they return back n the flowers even stronger and you are a new person who needs to go out learn about history n stop the flower it be nice in my idea buti doubt itll happen T_T
The first drakengard had an ending very similar to this, except you fall into a portal to Tokyo japan before the rhythm game bit, the events of that final ending eventually lead to nier, and later, Nier Automata.
I'm a drummer, and I like mix of beat. I used to listen to music with my eyes closed. Sounds cheesy, but it's for real. So, I've attempted to play this part with my TV off and just focused at the beat and the "ting" sound. Nailed everything. ...except the final fucking note. Woke up from my bed and wait for Mikhail's 2nd dialogue.
while playing I could never tell because I was in panic mode with a side order of PTSD from the first game, I never noticed but each one of their indivdual dances actually are done in a specific manner to reflect their personalities. like Ones, erratic and slightly unfocused, but always orderly and towards a single direction.
I tried knocking on my desk to the beat. I'm a violinist in my school's band, and I'm usually the only one, so I have to be the one to keep time. You know that last note? It's off beat. "Ki....e..." "One two three four. One, two, three-" (blocking sound) "Wait, what?"
It's timed to Mikhail's dialogue, not the beat. You literally cannot beat this boss first try. More than that, this is deliberately designed to fuck you in the home stretch and make you undergo the whole ordeal again.

12:34 has to be the saddest scene in the entire franchise. The fact an android, chronologically the first android to ever be shown to us as such (Devola and Popola in 2012 were not yet confirmed to be androids iirc) feels emotional after all that happened. The little detail she had to repeat “Someday” twice… just hits me more than it should. Such a great ending.
By 2012, you mean the release date of NieR (2010)? It was confirmed that they were androids in the CD Drama that came out in 2011, but yes, that still doesn't demerits Accord's sentence
the relief when i hit that final note, holy shit... i had gotten up to that final note 4 times but i just couldnt get the timing of it down. but when i did that shit felt so damn good
Professor Emil I did it too. Spending summer in the heat marching actually pay off. Closed my eyes and got it on 3 try. The beat is simple, just got to know when it speeds up or slow down at the end. Just count 1 2 3 4. The song is in 4/4
I always mess up on the last few notes. I've been at this for days, though. I'll keep trying. But I have to give credit, even though it's frustrating... I kind of really like it. The music, the girls, it's pretty.
true that. any other game and i would've written this off as 'lazy design'. but they really put some effort into it and it looks&sounds amazing. unfortunately i wasnt granted the gifts of patience and sense of rhyme at birth
I keep getting to all of the sisters singing together then fucking up right before the music slows down which is really annoying because I know how close I am to reaching the black screen...speaking of which, what's even worse, I'll _then_ have to deal with the black screen. It sucks because I can do _most_ of this last boss without looking...I only need to look at the screen after dealing with Two's song.
And it makes perfect sense if you think about it. Zero and her sisters were Intoners, given that power by the Flower. So why wouldn't the final attack of this flower be a dangerous and deadly song?
I've never played this game, only came because supposedly it has the hardest boss ever, I was expecting mayhem but that was actually really nice and epic. Also I dunno anything about this story but when the clones saluted the dead one I got chills.
@@igot2remember ahahah me too 1 mouth, maybe I spend a full week in this boss but this final is a good gift for beat it. Good night zero, this silence is mine ^^
This boss has one almost identical in the first game. It's far more complicated rhythmically, and it has black and white notes at a much faster speed. This song technically goes to 170bpm, but the melody is so much slower than the songs beats. The developers were thinking "Let's do what we did already, since she has magical powers to do with singing". It's so unfair, but it was perfectly logical D:
Yoko Taro essentially has his own universe he can branch off to whenever he wants, lets be real. Even if he were to end the D/N series, I really hope to one day play the game of the Watchers vs Whatever the fuck the Accords are from.
Most other bosses you hear about being rage inducing you can never really know how it feels. You can watch videos about it but you can never really get a grip on how bad they actually are. Here, though, you can tell. You can definitely tell.
Fuck the boss I’m here for the character/story and the music. Ending D boss music and credit music is a melancholic ride of a lifetime. And Mikhail saying ‘Good night… Zero’ is a guaranteed way to make me cry every… single… time.
I felt that the final boss was actually a cut scene that someone said "hey, lets make troll the people and have them turn it into a rythym game. Oh and also make sure when they finally let go of the breath they held so long when you hit em with the black screen, troll em with more notes"
I always laugh at these nerds who break their controllers in anger. "What idiots getting so mad at a game they broke a 60 dollar controller lmfao" The day I beat this game I joined those nerd ragers. Why? Because on try number thirty or maybe it was forty....? I got to the end on the black screen with the final bells. I didn't realize at the time that my controller died. Battery dead. Boom, right there. It decides to crap out on me right there. I ignored the low battery thing and that's what happened. I threw the controller so hard that the casing broke off. The controller wouldn't work anymore. I joined the grave valiant losers who nerd raged to that extent on that day. I never finished this game. The guy who thought of this owes many people reimbursements for their controllers and probably some tvs lmao. So whenever someone tells me they are the best troll alive I tell them play this game to the end. The guy who came up with this was troll level nine thousand.
The first time I tried to play this boss, and failed I cried, but at least I got to Lady Three, almost snapping the controller, and thinking what I did with my life, I felt a lot better.
Thank you for uploading the ending, the final boss is so freaking difficult especially for someone like me who has 0 rhythm. I tried for a few hours but kept failing half way through. I wish they'd let you miss at least once or twice instead, making you game over for missing just one note is brutal!
I'm well versed in music production and composition, but how the hell are you supposed to keep track of that note released during the ritardando? What?
+PsychGoth Y, and the worst part about it is that it seems to come just before the beat, which you have no way of knowing. 1 2 3 4 Counting 16th-notes: 1234 1234 123[4] 1234 As you can see on the beat within brackets, just one 16th before the 4th beat, which you have no way of knowing. You can hear the bells/glockenspiel play 1,2,3,4, but the note you're supposed to hit seems to come just before beat 4.
Analyzing this song, the progression is like this: Most notes in the beginning are in a 1/4 scale, but as the songs progress, they jump to 1/16. Zero's part is 120 BPM, Five's 130 BPM, Four's 145 BPM, Three's 155 BPM, Two's 165 BPM, One's 175 BPM, all dancing is 127 BPM, then in the ritardando, each section reduces app 15 BPM, and the last one is on the 12th note in a 1/16th scale at 50 BPM. So yeah, tricky xD
When I beat this...it wasn't really a feeling of "OMG I DID IT! I FUCKING DID IT!!" .... It was more like: "....FUCK YOU GAME. FUCK YOU YOKO TARO. I DID IT. I FUCKING BEAT YOUR TROLL GAME. I FUCKING. BEAT IT. FUCK!!!"
They are different timelines, so we can say that all the endings are canonical and true, since in the end they all happened, as in Drakengard 1 and Nier and Nier Automata. In fact, in Nier Automata the Accord is named. Can you imagine that in the final video game of these two sagas, all the Accords bring all the characters of the video games for an amazing last battle against the gods? Zero making up with his sisters and having ice cream with Caim and Kaine at a coffee shop? Too bad Yoko Taro loves to be "realistic" and he spends his time fucking her characters.
Yes, they all happened in their own timelines, but for example for Nier's timeline this ending never happened, because the flower is destroyed so Drakengard 1 will not happen and the queen beast will never arrive to Nier's dimension. And i would really love if Accord end up being important for the plot, but for now she just seems like fan service. Her role in this game is little more than being a Deus Ex Machina and a funny character, and her mentions in the Nier games are just texts about her having a shop. And i dont even think she is from Nier universe as if the humans from Nier could travel dimensions and time all of their problems would be solved.
it's a cool game, no the classic modern game where you continue without losing. This is called difficulty of video games, one thing forgoten in the 90's
TheMaux64 Nah, don't even try to compare this garbage to a legitimate challenge. This is artificial difficulty at its worst; the BAD parts of 80's/ early 90's gaming, incarnate.
zweihand If they wanted to do this "final boss" right then should have had it be where the flower (who's origins I would really like to know, is it in DLC or anything?) takes over Zero but instead of becoming a giant as hell statue flower (or some damn thing) she goes completely berserk and becomes insanely powerful. What follows is an almost heartbreaking battle between Zero and Mikhail to "This Silence is Mine" (song in the credits). The battle should be intense, hard but winnable with no uses of gimmicks but maybe with a Ice (Zero) versus Fire (Mikhail) to match the feeling that the song gives off. The ending needs to be different as well... Maybe a split ending depending on certain game conditions with a Best result and a Normal result? It would follow Cavia's pattern of up to five different ending types (NIER was no exception but you have to look for Grimoire Nier on the net for it). How's that? Sound better? I agree that the boss almost feels... unnecessary. And the ending felt more like, "Alright, this is our last game, see ya!" than a proper ending.
I have no problems with the final boss other than the camera. If they kept it consistent with the first phase, it would have been perfect. No problems with the story or the endings. As for the flower, it's elaborated upon in Zero's DLC.
It's really strange. I've been trying to beat this boss for hours, and the farthest I've gotten is to One and then I keep dying when the camera starts to flip out. Yet for some reason I'm not the least bit frustrated by it. Every time this boss kills me it's because I lost timing and missed a beat. It's not because of lag, it's not because of delay between the time I hit the X button and the time the game registers it, it's because I simply messed up. I just can't get mad at the game when all my deaths are of no one else's fault but my own.

Hey remember how Zero says in like the first mission that she'll stop calling Mikhail "dummy" once he's worthy of that name? Yeah they reversed it... this part slays me every time.
Zero: once there flower is in bloom you have to destroy it
The dragon: ok so fly around them while the cameraman has a seizure and block their attack like I'm in a rhythm game. Ok
Again, Why they dindn't make it last railroad flight?!

@@StarrySkykes Within the Drakenguard / Nier universe, anything using Angelic Script is typically associated with the Watchers. I laughed my ass off when I realized that Taro Yoko made the final boss for this game another ridiculous rhythm game. Only he knows how kick his players in the nuts like that.
Yoko Taro, telling players to "git gud tho" since Drakengard 1.
skLaFarebear git gud ?
deadb4youknow git gud = get good
skLaFarebear LOL! that's funny because in DoD 1 you didnt have the camera zoom all the way out/in, or just have the camera look at the sky, or have the screen go black. Yoko Taro just hates everyone that isnt japanese.
He loves to toy with his players. Remember the deceptive advertising for NieR Automata?
Seeing all those Accords together at the end almost makes me expect them to say "Glory to Mankind!" during their salute.
Well Accord exists in Nier Automata so...
Just like the people in Drakengard 1 were when they ended up on our Earth. Just like Nier and his daughter were by the time of Nier Automata.
Accord may very well be a piece of that world that was brought along with the Cathedral.

And my broken pieces of my PS3 controller.
So let me get this straight... this is a boss that involves an 8 minute long rhythm game that's devoid of visual cues?
I already feel an aneurysm coming on...
And if you screw up once, it's back to the beginning.
play Drakengard 1 final boss of ending E
Enjoy it, it´s the only really good ending in a Yoko Taro´s game.
I like to call this the true and canon ending after ending A occurs
for what drakengard is isnt that kinda lame?
probably the most beautiful boss fight I've seen. I haven't played the game but I've heard it's rage inducing.
If the last boss fight wasn't so troll, it'd be an +A.
There is videos in YT that adds visual crues to beat the boss, and reduce the difficulty greatly. But yes, it's annoying that a boss with so beautiful music and coreography is so troll at the same time
Just looking at the camera angles made me feel rage even though I don't play it...
I feel like I'm putting in the inputs but they're not registering properly
@@gatts1989 The video doesn't work, because the game framerate is inconsistent and so the timing constantly change between console. It can only be used if you emulate with no frameloss.
Yes, this is the same VA that voiced Edelgard Von Hresvelg in Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
With this, you just know how in character she was even back then.
So, leveling up Zero, buying and upgrading weapons, learning the combos, and stocking up on recovery items. ALL FOR THIS???!!
Drakengard baybeeeee
yes.
Supposedly the reason why the last boss is a rhythm game is becuz there is no longer a reason to kill anymore. No more blood needs to be shed becuz all who need to die to save the world have already been killed.
Not gonna lie this is fucking shit
Unpopular opinion but i think these camera angles are intentional, replaying Drakengard 3 recently and i've noticed there's a pattern on each intoner.
Zero's Part 3:07 - It has no camera issues, she being kind of a warm up session ;
Five's Part 4:38 - The camera tends to zoom out further than usual ;
Four's Part 5:08 - It's mostly normal other than the camera being in weird angles at times ;
Three's Part 5:57 - The camera would zoom up close to Three's face ;
Two's Part 6:42 - The camera would zoom up close to Mikhail's face ;
One's Part 7:15 - Really, the camera would just go ape shit crazy, panning everywhere ;
When all the intoners starts dancing together, u can see that all 6 of the intoner's pattern would occur subsequently.
7:50 - 7:58 (no camera issues) [Zero's]
7:58 - 8:09 (camera zooming out) [Five's]
8:09 - 8:19 (weird camera angles) [Four's]
8:19 - 8:29 (camera zooming in on Zero's face) [Three's]
8:29 - 8:40 (camera zooming in on Mikhail's face) [Two's]
8:40 - 8:50 (Camera going ape shit) [One's]
Thought it was a cool small little detail and wonder if it was intentionally when making it, nonetheless this boss is a piece of shit.
When it goes back to singing Kuroi Uta, I just wanna cry. I really thought this Drakengard was just going to be a sexy, bloody rampage, but it turned out to have its heartwrenching moments.
...Still not as ridiculously dark as the first, of course xD Thanks for uploading!
well atleast decadus is pleased with the fucking pain this final boss gives
I don't think even Decadus would enjoy this.
Besides all the rage this seems to induce, it’s pretty crazy that you’re essentially the last boss.
The four birds stay around Zero's sword..
I was actually feeling really really good about myself cause i defeated this boss! it was really easy the feeling after you do the last rhythm pattern, but then i woke up...

The first drakengard had an ending very similar to this, except you fall into a portal to Tokyo japan before the rhythm game bit, the events of that final ending eventually lead to nier, and later, Nier Automata.
It's a shame we haven't seen Accord since this game.
She would've been perfect in Automata... or at least show a small cameo for the Replicant remake.

Its one of those things where if your just watching, its amazing. When your the one playing its hell on earth.
I tried knocking on my desk to the beat. I'm a violinist in my school's band, and I'm usually the only one, so I have to be the one to keep time.
You know that last note?
It's off beat.
"Ki....e..."
"One two three four. One, two, three-" (blocking sound)
"Wait, what?"
It's timed to Mikhail's dialogue, not the beat. You literally cannot beat this boss first try. More than that, this is deliberately designed to fuck you in the home stretch and make you undergo the whole ordeal again.

You beat this with your eyes closed? You're a fucking legend.
Professor Emil I did it too. Spending summer in the heat marching actually pay off. Closed my eyes and got it on 3 try. The beat is simple, just got to know when it speeds up or slow down at the end. Just count 1 2 3 4. The song is in 4/4
Click your tongue in time of the beats and you'll beat this.
Simplicity itself. I like your taste, my lad.
And it makes perfect sense if you think about it.
Zero and her sisters were Intoners, given that power by the Flower. So why wouldn't the final attack of this flower be a dangerous and deadly song?
Yeah...It's called Stockholm Syndrome.

Drakengard! 8D
Taking the bad drugs.

"What idiots getting so mad at a game they broke a 60 dollar controller lmfao"
The day I beat this game I joined those nerd ragers.

I have a feeling that this ending somehow led to the Beast Queen in Drakengard 1
1 2 3 4
Counting 16th-notes: 1234 1234 123[4] 1234
As you can see on the beat within brackets, just one 16th before the 4th beat, which you have no way of knowing. You can hear the bells/glockenspiel play 1,2,3,4, but the note you're supposed to hit seems to come just before beat 4.
the final note is off the beat entirely. its a complete cheat.
ikr! I'm well versed in rhythm generation, but that doesn't sound rhythmically correct at the end....haha
You can say the devs put a: retardando.
Bdm tsssss.
20:45 why are they walking like they have to piss ?
I could go back and try the boss again for nostalgic reasons and still mess up at that last note
And i dont even think she is from Nier universe as if the humans from Nier could travel dimensions and time all of their problems would be solved.
that fucking walk at the end....wtf is dat shit?

TheMaux64 Nah, don't even try to compare this garbage to a legitimate challenge. This is artificial difficulty at its worst; the BAD parts of 80's/ early 90's gaming, incarnate.

If they wanted to do this "final boss" right then should have had it be where the flower (who's origins I would really like to know, is it in DLC or anything?) takes over Zero but instead of becoming a giant as hell statue flower (or some damn thing) she goes completely berserk and becomes insanely powerful.

Always a land of sands, forests, sea and a cathedral. Is Zero going to meet up with everyone else in NieR universe and fight aliens on an airship?
No, I think this is a different realm in its entirety.
Zero and the Nier cast are separated by different dimensions and thousands of years so i dont think so lol
Wow... Looks like an evil boss.
I might get this game, after all.

Even if it is a gigantic fuck you from Yoko Taro, it's still absolutely breathtaking and there's nothing else like it (bar DOD1 lol).
