I will always remember the first time my 17yo flew at Orlando Executive. She had trained in the middle of nowhere in NC. She rarely ever saw other planes and they were always other Skyhawks. Orlando Executive is just northwest of MCO, which has either a northbound approach or a southbound approach (which flies quite close to ORL. The first time she took off I was with her and the turned left (north) after take off and was faced with the landing lights of three passenger jets (at a much higher altitude, obviously). It was funny😂 The airspace around ORL is so complicated compared to the tiny little country airports she was used to. She was so jealous of everyone at OshKosh this year! She was back at school preparing to start her IFR training ❤

That’s why I always try to mention that there are ways to break into aviation if you don’t have $$$$. My daughter learned to fly through a JAFROTC scholarship - we absolutely would not have been able to afford the $30,000+ for her training at a university and flight school. And a friend who co-owns an ancient Piper Cherokee with 2 other people was the one who inspired her to fly - he went up with us in his plane in the story I’m referring to. Long story short, she loves to fly and is many many $$ in debt for her education. But she has a good head on her shoulders and a plan to start paying off her debt as soon as she graduates. We couldn’t be more proud of her for making her dream happen since we couldn’t do it for her. ❤️

I just gifted my 13yo daughter a discovery flight, and the school gave her an internship afterwards. She is very eager to start flight lessons in a couple of years. What age did your daughter start flight training?

The high school partners with Embry Riddle to dual enroll the ground school portion (we are in Orlando). She earned a scholarship to learn to fly between her junior and senior year. That’s when she earned her private pilot cert, at 17. But she started the ground school portion at 16.
I flew into MDW with a 152 - this was about 25 years ago at 0130hrs, no traffic. Picked up my friend who was a fuel handler for Signature. Flew over to CGX and did touch and goes-a night I'll always remember!
I grew up flying out of the farm fields of Wisconsin. When I finally became a commercial pilot the radio terrified me lol. But it’s true, the bigger the airport the easier it is. I actually like class c and class b. They give you vectors and you have to do a lot less thinking.
I learned to fly at midway at Aviation Professionals. Was a great experience and you get super comfortable with class c operations except for the non-standard practice of contacting tower on initial contact instead of approach.
I got my pilots license at Midway in 1977, with a small club that had some Piper Cherokee 140s. I flew for 5 years after that. In 1980 i was landing right behind the inaugural landing of the first Midway Airlines arrival.

When I was checked out by the FEDs there in Chicago in the Challenger my vety first flight was from KRFD (Rockford, IL) to KORD (Chicago O'Hare) picked up the owner and family then onto Aspen, Co. Flying into ORD at 1pm is pretty stressful if you haven't done it before
Back in 2020 during the pandemic my buddy and I did the Hudson Corridor in a Piper Cherokee and then called JFK to land there. It was super slow then so they cleared us to land 22L, then we took off on 22R back to KHVN. That was a pretty neat trip. 🤙🏽
Fyi I did the math once on the NYNJ Port Authority website... To land a crj900 in Jfk/lga/ewr is around $2,000 usd. That gives you one arrival, jetbridge, and departure.
The school I soloed at was on the south side, on 63rd st. We would request a south takeoff departure, and fly out to the farmland, and practice turns there. 50 years ago...
You should fly into GRB to Jet Air where I work! We don’t do landing fees but we do wave handling fees if you get that much in gas! So you’re fee would be $10 and if you got 10 gallons of gas, the handling fee is waived! We also only charge $10 overnight fee on the ramp but no charge for during the day!
It does depend on the airport though. I work at YYC, and I have a couple friends that are getting their flight hours. They told me the landing fee alone at YYC is 300$, so it's never really worth landing there when we can land 30 minutes north at a smaller airport
The number is the bearing on the compass 000 is north 090 is East 180 South 270 is West Take off the last digit and that's your runway number: 04 (040 so North-East) opposite direction is 22 (220, SouthWest) crossed by 34 (340 North West) opposite direction 13 (130 South East) The left or Right should be pretty obvious to anyone.. So to land on Runway 4L, you should be going North East bearing 040 And land on the left runway in front of you

Where I live light GA aircraft are not even allowed enter the airspace let alone landing coz them ATC pros cant handle them because of the traffic which is like less than half of Midway when it's busiest!
$20 parking fee was that valet parking 🤣😎🤣🤣🤣 I actually thought that it would be ten times that price cedarland. Now the fuel at nearly $9 a gallon is what I think they pay at the Amoco in California 🤣🤣. Now we don't have to wonder why people and on the highway because they run out of fuel ⛽😳🤣. Seriously very informative and fun to watch. But yes I think it is very hard to land an airplane 🛫 at a big airport. Speaking for myself to land any plane would be hard taking off my bed trick to since I don't know the first thing.

Try a US gas station with 100 octane, no ethanol, usually located near a racetrack. They'll be over $10/gal.
I flew in to Midway in a PA 28-181. ATC was really nice , and chill. Ground gave me progressives and I got a story to tell all my friends!

Usually calling the FBO directly helps. They’ll ask for your N number or aircraft type and base the fees off the size.
