Thank you so much for this video. Your way of describing things as you do them is very easy to follow and fun to watch even if I am not working on the transmission

Hey I have an unrelated question to the video I saw another video from a couple years ago about a 6f35 zip kit I honestly don’t know what a zip kit is but I really need a stamping #4 shift b solenoid replacement like desperately and I can’t find one anywhere so you know where I could look?

Zip kit is made by Sonnax to fix valve body wear. Have you tried WIT or Transtar? You can probably put a 3 or 5 and have no problems. If you can find that instead. If you stay within a number one way or the other ithe computer can compensate for it.

Hey Tom, outstanding video. First tranny re-build for me, W4A33, but have done many motors and been wrenching for years so I said “why not”. Well….. first time round had no gears and motor would cut right off and be locked up for a while. Figured out that I had a bad ground and pump bushing welded itself to the TC. Was very fortunate to find a brand new pump and got it put in and now have everything but reverse. Ugh! I have a sneaky suspicion I may not have lined up the oil ports when re-installing the center support. I checked and double checked the o-ring on back side of valve body so I’m pretty confident it’s not that. I also did a trans lab shift kit with new plate as well. Triple checked everything on valve body assembly. Any other thoughts on no reverse or do you think I’m heading in the right direction? On another note, after new pump installed when I had forward gears and car off the ground only left transaxle puts out power/spins. Should the transfer case be turning the rear drive shaft or only when the wheels are on the ground. Just want to be sure I don’t have another issue going on? Thanks so much. Again, excellent detailed video. Do you have a site where people can donate to your cause? Would love to donate!

Thanks. The first thing I would check is the connectors for the speed sensors and the shift solenoids. If they get crossed that is one of the symptoms.

Thanks Tom, yea mine have different plugs so that wasn’t possible. I had read that somewhere else as well. The car is a JDM spec 3000gt (GTO) all came with awd even the non turbo models. Anyways the speed sensors on JDM tranny have diff plug . Also. I didn’t take the speed sensors out before rebuild so I know they’re not crossed as well . Dropped the tranny today and pulled TC. Will start taring it apart tomorrow. Thanks so much for your time I truly appreciate it

Reverse uses the front clutch (drum behind the pump) and the low/reverse clutch (ones in the case around the planetary). Check the rubber seals on the center support and make sure they are sealing properly. Also the o-ring on the top of the valve body. Did you happen to try and drive it forwards anyways? Did it have all the gears?

Hi Tom, I discovered that I did not line up the dot with the flat spot on the shaft on the 2nd clutch drum behind the pump. Does that feed oil to the front clutch drum? Would that have caused my problem? I only tested forward gears with car off the ground. Worked in low worked in 2nd. I then put it in D and accelerated, held speedo steady at 60 mph and hit OD button and it kicked out to 3rd (I’m assuming) as it should. That was the extent of my testing. Took the valve body out and o- ring was in place. Also center support o-rings where lined up properly.

That would cause a delay in forward. Does not have anything to do with reverse.Do you have the ability to air check the unit when it is back together? And which ports to use?
