I know that this video was a year ago but I can tell you that I just got the 900 did everything that the manual said to do to set it up and I charged it when it was done I picked up the detector and the coil broke off they did replace the coil and the first time I used the new coil i noticed that it has a crack in one of the ears so now I have to see if they are going to replace this coil too
They have modified the new version of the 11- inch, but the 6 & 15 look to be the same as previous version. I have used a light coating of silicone paste as a lubricant between the 'washers & ears' to allow better movement and hopefully reducing wear on the washers. And I don't tighten the screw anymore than is necessary. I prefer my coils to have some movement, which might help reduce stress?
You should have taken the coil off of the 900 so we could get a better look at the differences. Hard to really see it with the shaft connected to the coil.
They used the Vanquish set-up. A lot of technology used on the Vanquish 540 is used on the 900 and Manicore also. The EMI technology for a example. The Vanquish 540 is one of the quietest machines I have ever used. That's the sensitive at 9!!!
🤔 Hey Scott. Do you think the new bolt setup on 900 will reach the threads on other side with a coil stiffener?? And if so how much thread will be left? Thanks for the look at new coil! 👍👍
I have no idea, I doubt you will have enough room so you might as well print a new bolt to go with it. I would wait and see how things are going. I suspect most of the issues have been resolved and stiffeners won't be needed.
The damn company should Stand behind there product and admit when they are wrong, it is not free when you pay 1k for the machine. I use to be a loyal Minelab customer, not so much now. Especially since the 7/900 coil YOKEs are now breaking.. I would not have purchased the 900 if I would have known of the coil ears breaking..
15" is going to give you about an inch more depth and of course you get the extra coverage. Using the 6" at the beach is not going to give you a lot of coverage but it is lighter.
with knowing how bad the coil ears were before. You can guarantee that Minelab has fixed the issue on the new coil. I know the jury is still out on a lot of field testing, but I have a feeling Minelab is not that stupid to allow the problem to continue on the new release
I bought a 700 today and the coil was bad out of the box, I called mine lab and got a apology and a shipping label emailed and a new machine is being shipped. A plus customer service I wasn’t expecting that .
We bought new Explorer XS's years ago. They broke the coil ears and the upper shaft housing multiple times. Each time they were sent in for warranty repair. Before 6 months; Minelab informed both of us that they'd no longer honor the warranty. What a crappy company .
If that's your opinion then don't buy from them. Its 100% up to you. I think in this video I was trying to show folks what they did to address the concerns. Maybe they are listening?
Is it worth the 1100$ price tag. I would have two 6” coils lol if I owned the 900. I guess nothing wrong with that. I do like that you can use the same coils on different machines on the equinox line. How does the 900 feel compared to the manticore.
Interesting....yet they are interchangeable...hmmmm.....I haven't seen anyone do that test yet....get that Coiltek on the Manticore and get back to the pool......
That is another reason to be upset with Minelab, proprietary Headphones, they want all the MONEY. IMHO because of all this Minelab will lose more customers, what a crock..
The solution is to fix washers to the inside of the ears when the shaft rubbers wear down. This stops over tightening the bolts and snapping the ears. Also dont use the detector to lean on when bending down to pick up finds.
Problem is the washers wear down and then it’s hard plastic on plastic then you see the wear occurring I epoxied a stiffener over the ears because eventually they will Wear then snap!
Yes the 7/900 coil yokeS do break I believe a guy from MI on youtube "700/900 Equinox fail" He had a hard time finding a yoke stiffiner to install, I believe he found one from the UK.....
From you video, it looks like the coil bolt threads into the left coil ear. I’m not a fan of that. Should the coil bolt break, it will be difficult remove the lower shaft from the coil ears to replace the bolt. Another comment stated to address the coil washer material. I agree.
I guess I don't understand how it would be difficult to remove a bolt if it breaks. The new washers that came with the coil were very thick so maybe that addresses your concerns
@@MentalMetal Hey Scott. Assume the thumb screw end breaks off. How do you get the threaded portion removed from the coil ear-you cannot remove the lower shaft to grip the remaining bolt to remove it. If the bolt breaks off inside the lower shaft, how do you get the lower shaft off to turn the bolt out of the coil ear. Last, if just the threaded tip breaks off the rest of the bolt, it’s stuck in the coil ear-I guess you could remove it with a pair of pliers or vise grips. That’s all.
I see what you are saying. I guess I would use a drill bit and drill out the threaded end and vice grips like you mentioned on the other end. Lets give it a fair chance before we start ripping on a solution that to me, from what I see, is a very good fix to what they had before. Even if the bolt breaks we aren't replacing coil the coil.
The quality upgrades are the main difference and they are numerous. The 900 has a better VDI and some upgraded performance. I would say this mounts to overall some significant upgrades
Carbon fiber shaft, new coil ears, 3 more segments of sensitivity, flashlight, 2 more audio types, better separation, vibration etc. There is a lot more going on here than what the 800 had.

Oh, I don’t like the new coil bolt. I’ve never seen that, and not crazy about that. It seems that thin plastic could strip right out? Thanks
Jerry its not going to strip out. It fits in there nicely. I think its a better solution overall.
@@MentalMetal Plastic screw in a plastic joint...i think that with dirty and sand in it could be stripped quickly

Has Minelab addressed the waterproofness
Leakquinox
They are saying they have. Time will tell for sure.
@Robert man you really have a lot of anger for this company based other comments. #therapy my friend. Its just metal detecting.

Holy moly you guys are hard to please.
but is the water leak fixed now
Not hearing anything bad as of yet.
Good info, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks this is exactly what I wanted to see.
Glad I could help you out.

Minelab should at least give out free coil stiffeners to 800 owners because under the consumers' act, these coils are not fit for purpose
Poor baby-everything free!!!
Better yet; actually build a coil that doesn't break. I have never broken coil ears on Whites or Tesoro metal detectors.
@@harley092355 not when you have spent £3000 on minelab detectors and something is as flimsy as the nox
maybe they will replace 800 coils with new 900 coils under warranty...who knows?

Same thickness of the Coiltek. Anyway, rubber washer replacement should be done every 4-5 months (depends on usage) and you will avoid any problems
Thanks for sharing!
I would like you to bolt on the 5x10 Coiltek and see how the 900 reacts. My favorite coil on my 800. Kenny
Mine too Kenny, I plan on doing it this weekend. Stay tuned.
they should have done a recall on the NOX coils especially since they were aware of the problem or just extend cool warranty.
I agree, they should have done something.

I think the manticore is a lot better to swing but that's just me. The 900 is definitely lighter though.
