You really need to learn the springer launch trick, it saves a lot of time if you combo it with the gliding booster. Faster even than a double boost on skyscale. (For those who haven't heard of it before: charge up the springer jump, then at about 80-90% hit the dismount button. You'll fly up to as high as the jump would have gone and then immediately be able to glide.)
The whole "open chest" things is just to force people to do the pre-metas to farm the keys. HoT feels better as you can BUY the Keys for the Map Currency.
if they implemented the participation for HoT this map would be AMAZING. because as opposed to randomly teleporting to be best in efficiency you actually station people at each camp like you are supposed to. not only better role play but just better gameplay too, similar to VB
With this "stupid" thing about so many chests at the end, the GW2 team is solving the problem with "no participation" at events. For example, the player who tags only the main event for a little bit, won't be able to open all the chests, the same as the player who participates in most or all events. I believe this is the whole catch.
I think a better way to do this would be to just make the events along the way actually give you something instead of spamming a bunch of random F keys at the end.
fun fact you can use the dismount key on your springer before you leave the ground it will still fling you up then you can glide and use the glider updraft thing.
@@russianarji Yeah, that's a thing. It's hard to do consistently (at least for me), but it works. I use it to get massive height and then mount my griffon mid-air and dive.
I've recently returned and decided I should get the Skyscale. Already having the other mounts (minus turtle) mostly all upgraded it wasn't so bad. Every once in awhile I get behind, then I use a teleport to friend to the tag lead to catch up. Having the Beetle helped to open up the map by just zipping around, although the shrines during the meta also help. But getting the Skyscale isn't exactly fun, get the scales, give out meds, now get eggs back and forth you go.
It's really interesting to see the gulf in opinion towards Season 4 between those like Teapot that value mechanics and encounters and those like myself that value the RP, the lore and the 'cinematics' as he put it. Season 4 in my eyes is the peak of GW2 storytelling (prior to EoD) and the obvious deficiencies of the maps and events were easily masked by the rich story that was told when introducing the them. When you focus so hard on the mechanic pros and cons of a map in GW2 you miss a lot of the point of those maps... it's hard to explain but I just feel that those that are less interested or invested in the GW2 story/lore do miss out on the overall raison d'être.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The Dragonfall meta is a desperate battle to keep Kralkatorrik down because if he isn't kept down and available to be fought on the ground, he will escape and eventually wreak havoc on Tyria consuming leyline magic and branding the whole world. The music fits very well if you do the meta during the storyline or after having done the storyline.
@@godspeedhero3671 I think the music suffers from being so good. The Kralk theme is sublime so I don't blame ANET for wanting to use it outside of story instances. With regards to the 'Kralk body fight' I will say that it's not perfect and a little strange that he just cocoons up before youre teleported to a bunch of chests. Knowing that he is missing a wing and using leylines to regen Id have liked maybe to have the event have you clear a path across his body towards the other wing and have the end point sheering off the other one. The team on the outside essentially, worst case, buying time for the Commander to do their thing inside.
Funnily enough I do care about the RP. One of the things I really really don't like about DF is that the RP (insane world ending event) doesn't match the gameplay (trivial events and you don't even actually fight the boss in any meaningful way) so my suspension of disbelief is shattered and I just can't buy it at all.
If we're talking PURELY from looking at the final 'battle' of basically popping scabs I entirely agree with you, that 'encounter' could have been so much more epic. I just feel that everything leading up to that was done super well. Pushing the lanes towards the camps, setting them up then pushing the tech or whatever towards the brandstorm. All the while you're literally on chunks of the Mists and an Elder Dragon. Everyone has their own opinions though and I'm sure there's maps you adore and I hate. Sirens Landing gets a lot of praise and I just don't get it!
I too hate the champion runs, here and in Drizzlewood. They are almost impossible to do until you own the skyscale (Dragonfall). Or griffon (Drizzlewood). Even with the mounts they are kind of tedious. Inevitably miss one of the landing points towards the end of DF and get stuck in combat. The 'chests in a circle' idea is waaaay preferable to the run through Auric Basin. In meta bosses where there are fewer chests, or even boss chests from Dragonfall it can be hard to see the chests with everyone crowded around them.
You can get the jackal with springer plus glider with jade bot. I didn't have lvl 3 of either springer/skimmer. Used springer to get most of it done and in the high vault areas used parkour plus glider with boost.
I'm glad I'm not the only one... I pushed through getting my skyscale at dragonfall with only the bunny for so long, and since getting it I haven't been back once 😂
They could just make a big chest with rewards that improve the more keys or whatever you put into it. Put a cap on it and it will function the same, without the running around.
In all honesty, I think that Dragonfall is pretty well designed map. It's surprisingly diverse but it lacks content. It's all about the massive chest farm
Living world season 4 did something I didn't think it could do it made me feel really sad for kralkatorrik in all honesty I cried at the end of it cuz it made me sad
Honestly the only elder dragon I don't feel bad for is Zhaitan. All the other ones i really like, especially Primordus. He's just a big fiery lizard chilling.

I also never really did Dragon Storm after getting Scale. Then with the Return To: I was so clueless about the area, but remembered why I didnt play the zone ever. Was miserable pre-scale. Much like HoT maps with no gliding masteries and obv scale as well. Was just annoying as hell to get about, and mobs were so over tuned at the time.

You know, most people who get to Dragonfall already have Springer 3 unlocked. The map was designed so the springer could navigate it when you don't yet have the skyscale. Your problem was just not upgrading your base mounts. I'm not a huge fan of Kralk's battle here but I feel like the key situation is a good way to avoid the auric basin and tangled depths problem of people only showing up for the final boss. Edit: "my team has abandoned me" your footage kind of implies you don't actually know how the farm for dragonfall works. If you stay with the tag you get every event. Going solo is the suboptimal play.
I dislike the map a lot because the events suck, so I don't know the optimal strats. And yeah I think it's complete garbage that new players that don't have the skyscale/levelled mounts have a big disadvantage. I could keep up no problem, but newer players definitely can't.
Yeah I really wasn't getting the "problem with masteries" he was trying to showcase there. He was trying to demonstrate an issue of them locking you out of content with something that was just his own fault; no one forced him to fast track to Dragonfall before taking the small amount of time required to upgrade the Springer. He could potentially have more of a point using a different example such as maybe IBS Strike chests being locked behind masteries (even then I don't see anything really wrong with missing out on some rewards as it gives value to levelling up your masteries, it's only a problem for really impatient people but I can see why some people wouldn't like it). But not having an upgraded Springer was the worst example he could have chosen - PoF are by far the easiest, fastest and most universally useful masteries in the game.
@@amyt2035 i disagree becasue exactly this happened to me. Obviously its "my own fault" to not have those masteries but people i played with wanted to do the map and work a bit on the skyscale. the opening of a lot of chests is there in order to resource-gate gains with keys which also are a good sink for map currency and also a timesink so you get less in more time. i'm rather surprised why you would say you don't understand that, it's not even game economics design 101, it's game eco design preschool. give the player as much rewarding interaction as possible (opening one chest is one instance of "looting") while holding back as many rewards per unit of time as possible.
