    If you're wondering why I'm clearing the Labyrinth at the start of the video, it's because this series is pretty far behind its date of recording - I pump a hell of a lot of hours into the Microtransaction Enjoyer! That said, we'll be working hard over the next month or so to finally bring Zero to Hero back up to date - because I've got a VERY EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT to make about the series, coming soon...

    One thing I thought was cool in DRMs was how you upgrade the dragon slayer weapons. You craft an unfinished weapon and then bring it with you into the mission and then stab the boss with it after breaking it's defiance bar. It felt far more engaging than just crafting it

      DRMs would have been good if they didn't have so many annoying issues.
      I would have done them more if they were worth it and they mitigated the issues.

    DRMs are actually a good format. I enjoy the potential diversity compared to single strike bosses, as well as the idea of scalable repeatable instanced content with added challenge modes. The problem is just the quality of the content and encounters is subpar and repetitive. I genuinely hope they implement an improved version of the system in the future, maybe as some form of repeatable missions or even a new version of traditional dungeons.

    DRM's were almost fantastic. I think a few tweaks and we'd have an excellent format for repeatable content.
    The game needs more instanced repeatable 5-man content. In general I'd love more stuff like DRMs and Forging Steel.

      Yeah it’s the same concept as the GW1 missions, which were awesome and the backbone of the game.
      Rebrand DRMs to Missions and make future story content with replayable groups in mind. Then you have two types of content reusing your story assets instead of wasting dev work after the first play through.

    Brings back ptsd flashbacks where I came back for EoD and wanted to catch up with the story. Had to one shot all these chapters and DRM’s in what was basically a fuge state by the end. Pure pain and not good content at all. It gave the impresssion of being rushed and booted out the door on crunch tbh. Dispite as you say I bet they put at least some thought into it.

    To me DRMs don't really have any major crippling flaw, they aren't even _that_ much more monotonous in concept than most other content. However they feel like each individual minor design choice is tuned to be as annoying, time-wasting and outright infuriating as possible. The "waiting room" pre-event that's basically pointless busywork even though some of the individual tasks are cool (such as running around with a dozen rescuees). The defence/escort format with non-threatening but again time-wasting mob waves (especially harpies and Icebrood chill spam) where "normal" builds basically don't matter. Extremely niche or utterly useless allies, even though they're supposed to be our competent supporting armies. Awful, awful dialogue and "story" especially in the Brisban mission (Ryland trashtalks us in front of the _one_ person who is a living counterpoint and nobody points that out!) Random meteor strikes which had me looking for a summoner mob or a magical volcano for ages because even in Tyria burning rocks don't just randomly drop from the sky. Lots of waiting, invuln phase changes where nothing seems to happen etc. in the boss fights which take you out of it but don't serve any real purpose (unlike in e.g. the Arkk or Xera fights which have important minigame phases and _need_ that break for your team to react properly). Masteries which basically read "we pre-nerfed the loot just in case the timers weren't enough, now grind some more".
    Thing is none of these are particularly egregious, but all of them together and basically universal to _all_ DRMs (this is where the monotonous design is a problem) leave very little to actually enjoy about them during gameplay.

    Why is volatile magic tools considered better than unbound tools? If you have LWS3 unlocked, it's much much easier to farm winterberries and blood rubies to get ascended accessories and stuff. With volatile magic you have to farm the map currencies or eternal ice shards to convert and you don't have any stat changeable items or easy currency farms like Bitterfrost.
    Thanks again!

    • @Panosptr
      @Panosptr Год назад +11

      You don't use it for ascended equipment. You use volatile magic to buy trophy shipment and you sell the materials for gold.

    • @torgeeee

      also, for lws4 currencies, the ice shard conversion is really np with the easy ibs strikes, and for the extra lazy (and if you have eod) you can slot a jade sliver recycler to get lws4 currencies passively

    Unbound magic is the best way to buy obsidian shards, change my mind. UM isn't really strong for earning gold, but the karma it saves that you can convert to gold is worth it.

    • @campioneri
      @campioneri Год назад +1

      I agree, with the caveat that VM gets you obsidian shards for the same price and the VM gathering tools give you more magic per harvest than the unbound ones do. So the VM tools are still better. But Winterberry farming is, after the Wintersday orphan farm, the best method in the game to farm obsidian shards by a long shot.
       @Avery S for most people that's right, but if you're in the legendary producing market it's your biggest limiting factor since it's account bound and hard to farm by itself.

    DRMS are boring, copy pasted time waste. They are needed to get MP and other stuff for sure, and can in some way be fun the first time you do them...
    But then they are just a pain to repeat as there are more interesting activities to do around.
    I wish ANET turned the brain on and instead of implementing that content as instanced BS they could have added in the real open maps.
    Anet should hire me to fix this stuff and make fun content XD
    EDIT: 100% agree with the story telling in DRM. those obnoxious NPC talking 10 mins strait ... is a game killer.

    DRMs get the hate, because they were the symptom of corporate greed ruining the Ice Brood Saga wich started so damn good.
    Bjora Marches and Drizzle Wood Coast were fun to play, they brought GW2 out of decline ... and then they drove it right into the first wall they could find.
    "People love the new content."
    "Sure, but we give it away for free? Scrap that, ruin it and sell a new expansion."
    Laughter in the meeting room ... "Are you serious boss?"
    "Yes."
