So great to see you! We all need a break sometimes, and I’m so glad you took that for yourself. I absolutely LOVED Convenience Store Woman! I’m rather unconventional myself, and it was interesting to see how she dealt with that in her culture. Just leave people alone and let them be happy, yeesh.

You never need to apologize for taking a mental break. I am so happy that you did, and feeling better bc of it. I loved Portrait of Dorian Grey. It’s one of few books that I had to read in school that stuck me. I am definitely putting the other books on my TBR. ❤❤❤

I can’t tell you enough how refreshing your book reviews are. If I was teaching again you would definitely be required material. One thing that struck me this time. When you added ratings it felt odd. Because your review gave me everything I needed to know. I get that Goodreads requires it but your reviews are enough. They are honest, deeply felt and delivered so personally and with so much warmth… what can I say. I’m a fan!

The Picture of Dorian Grey is a good book and Oscar Wilde adapted it into a movie as well that was equally good. PS never apologize for prioritizing you- can’t share this part of yourself with your followers if you don’t first make certain that you create space for your peace… protect it and yourself at all times… blessings to you. 🙏🏾

I literally checked your channel not even a day before you posted this because I remembered I haven't watched your videos for a long time. What a pleasant surprise that you posted! I'm happy to hear you're doing better now.
Loved your review of Convenience Store Woman. Although I remember enjoying the beginning of the book a lot and possibly even more than when she hangs out with S. I can't remember his name either but I think it starts with S. I can't remember what it was exactly but I remember feeling weirded out and angry with some of his opinions and actions. I also read Life Ceremony but it's really different in tone to Convenience Store Woman. Thematically there's some overlap.
I read The Picture of Dorian Gray as a teen and loved it but I should definitely reread it now because it's been so long. You should try Oscar Wilde's plays, they are really fun.
I haven't read the last two books but I'll definitely try Kwame Alexander's memoir.
So nice to see you again, nephew Five! It's nice to hear you are taking good care of yrself. I just finished reading Sayaka Murata's Earthlings and it was BANANAS. Very unlike what I normally read; very Japanese. I read to the end ("Life's too short to read bad books."--me), but I don't know. It wasn't for me. I have a recommendation for you! Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha or The Woman Who Walked Into Doors, both by Roddy Doyle. I'd be interested to hear what you think of Doyle's very unique, very Irish voice. Take care, Five.

Some really great recommendations five , I’ve read 2/4 and I can say I agree with your reviews of those. Classics like Dorian can be a bit scary to get into because of the old language used but like ya said ya do get used to it and if you master Dorian well it does make you feel like you can delve into more classics because there’s some really brilliant ones. I wish Oscar had of wrote more novels this being his only one, the rest are plays but if you enjoyed it definitely read de profundis - he wrote that whilst in prison and it’s short but pssh I should of just underlined the whole book because it just hits you.
The prophet by kahlil Gibran - another really short one that will have you marking up the entire book 😂
I’ve added the two books from this review I haven’t read yet to my tbr. I have another one (blacktop wasteland) you recommended before on there too , so looking forward to getting to those! Glad you’re feeling better , wishing you a good weekend!
