Oooh man. New speaker and open back, sweet sound. Nice video

I like the sound of the modifications. (I have one too) It did, however, make it sound a bit less "British/Voxy" and a bit more American/Fender-bluesy voiced, but I'm sure it's a more versatile amp now. I was not sure what I'd hear when the box was opened up, and I was surprised and impressed by how much bigger the sound was with the open back. I expected a more spatial sound, but it also made the sound deeper. Worthwhile mod indeed!

Great video! It’s always a matter of taste, I think must admit the stock sounded more pleasing. I think the stock speaker sounded nicely compressed, smoother and more musical. I love videos like this. Stay cool.

The open back is the most effective mod however go one better and carefully remove the tolex prior to sawing. The removed wood can be recycled as a hinged "cat flap" and the tolex reapplied to look normal. A leather tab keeps the flap closed. It's a noticeable difference and the closed flap position suits some instruments as well as keeping out the dust. Cheers Terry

I'm going to make some similar changes to my ac4tvh. I will change the preamp valve for a Mullard style TAD 12AX7 and the power valve for a Tad EL84 as well. I chose as a new speaker a Celestion G12M-65 Creamback 16 Ohm 12 "Guitar Speaker. I hope to make some recordings to make a video with the before / after. I personally don't like the sound of your amp with the new back cover. Loses the Vox sound. Maybe closing it a little more (but not completely) improves the sound. Greetings and good work.

What is the song at the end? Opening the back really made this amp rather lovely

Before you butcher these fine amps, remember, you can always attach any speaker cabinet. You can even build one! And always have the amp original,. Tube swaps are always a none altering factor.

It is 16 ohms,... i have a speaker cab, but it us 8 ohm...so won't work..

@@halsnuf7530 , if you got two 8 ohm they can be wired in series to get 16 0hms. 8+8=16

He didnt butcher it in any way... The original back was not cut and can be replaced to restore originality at any time. It would be good, if not a little more work, to make new back with a sliding opening so it can easily be changed from 'closed' to open box.

    Too loud for house?

Not if the house is empty. But still very loud if you are going to sit close to it.
