The fact that they got *the* Paul Reubens, (God rest his soul) and Cookie Masterson's *ACTUAL* voice actor, (Tom Gottlieb) is so bizarre, even for today's standards!
It’s funny how this became sort of a fad in the 90s…only to become popular again in the modern day thanks to the popularity of the Jackbox franchise as a whole.
I was lucky enough to catch this show on TV as a kid - I’ve always been a big YDKJ fan. The gag with the mariachi band and taking the $30 out of the contestants’ scores had me rolling.
I'm pretty sure I have ADHD, and a show like this is up my alley. I already love the video game... I wish this show continued. I loved it. I also didn't know until recently Paul Reubens was the the host.
This was a very funny game show that should have had a long run. Paul Reubens, best known for portraying Pee Wee Herman was hilarious as host Troy Stevens. He proved that he could handle a game show and kept the show moving and brought plenty of humor to the proceedings. The game itself was pretty simple and the home audience could play along, which to me is important for a game show to be successful. It deserves to be revived some day.
@Jason Rodriguez Saying that it’s still going is somewhat misleading. Since they’re focusing on the party packs now, YDKJ games are mainly reserved for special occasions, but other YDKJ hosts have hosted stuff on other games.
the problem is that abc barely advertised it, the wikipedia section on the show states that many fans of the game didn't know of the show's existence until long after
It's a sad day that we lost Paul Reubens aka Pee-Wee Herman. We will definitely miss him and he has touched our hearts in the first movie "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure".
Man, I loved this show when it first aired. It just stinks that it only lasted like half a season before being canceled. It was hilarious, engaging, and entertaining. Plus they got the real Cookie Masterson as the voice over from the games. Paul Rubens was quite entertaining, too. Wish they'd try to revive this on GSN or somewhere.
cutemimi25 It's been well over 10 years since it aired on TV & only 6 episodes. I highly doubt it'll end up on either since it's been all but forgotten.
It wasn't really cancelled in the sense of failing. They only ordered 6 episodes. The rating were decent. Not bad enough to get canned early, but not high enough to feel the need to ask for more shows.
This show should have lasted longer. I know that two months later, 9/11 happened. I would love to think that the show could have given a small amount of relief for us in those awful months.
With literally every other name, this might have been a hit. The problem was the YDKJ games were hysterical and some of the things done in the game wouldn't translate to real life as well
omg, Paul Reubens and John Paragon were part of the writing staff! John is best known for performing Ptery and Jambi the Genie on Pee Wee's Playhouse. John also was R.J. Fletcher, Jr. in the movie UHF. He's the one who trips Noodles McIntosh in the movie.

I love the concept, but i feel like its missing some of its energy in the original games. Its probably the music and the slower pace than in the original.
I think people would still be mad, because Peewee does not act like Cookie at all. But hey, he’s the announcer, so at least the Cookie Monster is a part of this in some hosting capacity.
I loved and played the hell out of the YDKJ computer games around this time... yet I totally missed the brief time YDKJ the TV show was on the air. (No wonder, with only six episodes!). Glad to finally see an episode! Yeah, could've been better but still entertaining to watch. I wonder why didn't just use Paul Reubens's real name??
I know this is a two-year old comment, but I figured I'd answer it - I think the idea was that none of the YDKJ hosts go by their real names - Harry Gottlieb as Nate, Andy Poland as Guy, Peter Spector as Buzz, Phil Ridarelli as Schmitty, and Tom Gottlieb as Cookie. So it only made sense that a real-life host would still not go by their real name.
the only reason they didn't is because i think they wanted to keep the cookie faceless. It would've been to hard for them to sell a game show with a disembodied voice as the host.
The only thing I really liked about this show was Cookie Masterson. I found him funnier than Paul and I kinda hoping the gameshow would be almost identical to the actual game.
0:02 Fun Fact: The guy you are seeing here is Regis Philbin, The host of US Version of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire. RIP Regis Philbin, He's always our television legends.
I really dont know how this show didn't make it it's amazing in every way. I'm guessing that since millionaire was at its peak of popularity it was the summer or 01 so there probably wasn't room for another game show. It tried to piggyback of its success and kinda fell short
