Imo the biggest reason to read the Illiad and other mythologies are their insights into human psychology

Yeah, you nailed it on the head. Such a great point. There are so many great things to learn about the human condition.

Great video! Currently reading the Iliad and found myself wanting to put it down and skip ahead to the next books on the list but I know it will be worth getting through. Thanks for the encouragement!

So glad you found our channel, and glad we could encourage you to keep on the pursuit. Finishing the Iliad is definitely worth it, since the Odyssey is a continuation.

Just started reading the Iliad for the first time a few days ago so I’m so happy I found your podcast! Looking forward to checking out more of your stuff. Already I’m surprised how many references from the Iliad and the Greek culture in general are common nomenclature in our everyday life. (Achilles heel, by Jove! The muse Etc...)

Welcome aboard! It is incredible how fundamental it is in our language and expressions. It's fun to be on the inside track knowing where it all came from.

As a father of 5 I really enjoy seeing the spit up on the shirt brother. Lol. My copy of the Iliad is tattered and marked up from the last 5 years coming back to it. Really glad I found this channel. I’m jumping in with the odyssey. Look forward to catching up on videos and reading along. Take care.

I just love seeing notifications that you guys posted a video. I’m going to try out that filter! Lol
I just finished the Iliad and I’m on book 3 of the odyssey. I read the Iliad from a Canterbury classic book that also uses Samuel butlers translation, but it replaced the Roman gods names that he used with their Greek names. For the odyssey I’m reading the original translation on a kobo aura with the Roman names which is interesting. With the reader when I get to a gods name I don’t recognize, I can just tap it and it brings up a box with a description/definition and the Greek equivalent.
While I struggled thru the early part of the Iliad, I ended up loving it. And the way the odyssey is like an epilogue is great. I am faltering a bit because I had this idea that I was gonna devote all of my reading time getting thru the great books, but now I think I’m gonna try and pace myself and read some on the side. So I just started reading the mistborn series.

We are so blessed to hear that you are excited when a video is released. Thanks for following along with us and commenting often.
It's really neat that we are reading (basically) right along with you. I was reading through book 7 this morning. We've kept with the Britannica series and have enjoyed it. The clickable names sounds like a great resource to keep you on track with each person and their description.
Yeah, we were feeling the same way about the Iliad, but as you know by the discussion in our video, it became very enjoyable by the end. The Odyssey has been amazing. Really enjoyed the first few books already and can't wait for more.
      Have a great day.
      Cheers,
      Ben
