The only downside to the this weapon is that the bullets (from the bubbles) fly where your cursor is at the moment and not where it was at when you shot so it can be a bit tougher to use while moving
It's a very good weapon, but since its post-golem pre-cultist it's on a very weird stage of the game where you get tons of weapon upgrades that it's overlooked. But still on the top 5 weapons for me because of how unique it is
thing with postgolem weapons is that they get immediately overshadowed by pillar weapons - for all that grinding you might just use the xenopopper to beat the vortex pillar then just use the vortex beater
see, this is why i think there should be a dungeon themed boss in between golem and cultists. it’d provide good reason to enter the post plantera dungeon and get all the sweet loot from it, whilst also giving you a reason not to just rush cultists after golem and grab some pillar weapons. it’d also give a good thematic reason as to why the cultists could’ve started their ritual before the golem was defeated.
Xenopopper is probably the most mechanically and thematically interesting shotguns in the entire game. Sure, onyx blaster is cooler. But xeno popper just works so much differently from most of the weapons in the game.
I agree, it's really cool. I was gonna go after it on FTW but I kept getting insta killed and I just wanted it to end and I got the piranha gun and chaingun
I love the Xenopopper but the way you acquire it plus the fact I always farm for a Wisp in a bottle after Plantera I've usually got the Sniper and or the Tactical shotgun by the time I'm finished, making Xenopopper a bit pointless.
swear bro, i was just trying to fight the lunatic cultist so i’m in the air, and then i get detected by the probe, i got shredded and i only killed one saucer and got a laser machine gun and not a xeno popper
"In space layer" ma arse. I was building an arena for duke when one probe crawled on the ground, scaned me and flew away befor I could switch from blocks to weapon
It's not worth getting imo. It's still unique and cool weapon though. The sniper rifle, chain gun, and mega shark are all better especially with chlorophyte bullets and the right set up.
If we are talking about overlooked weapons, we cannot forget the scourge of the corruptor. Its honestly so much better then the vampire knives, and its one of melee's very few homing items so that on its own is incredible.
I think lifesteal is so valuable that Vampire Knives could literally have the same base damage as the Minishark and still be more useful than Scourge of Corruptor. You’re not using Vampire Knives for damage unless you just got it right after Plantera, but unlike Scourge of Corruptor, it’s valuable until the end of the game, probably still worth carrying around when you have much better weapons like Solar Gear or even things like the Meowmere. It doesn’t work with Moon Lord, but besides that, its utility as the only true vanilla lifesteal weapon makes it one of the best weapons from Post-Plantera all the way to endgame and postgame. Scourge of the Corruptor may do solid damage, but it’s only really useful for mid-late Hardmode because it starts getting outclassed. Vampire Knives never gets outclassed because it’s the only weapon that does what it does
@@zememerr2329 It still works on moon lord if you're smart with it, and yes Vampire Knives are the only weapon worth keeping in your inventory when you have Zenith
@@zememerr2329 agreed, scourge doesn't even come close. As cool of a weapon as it is, lifesteal is literally only something that 1 other weapon in the game does (the bat bat, a pre hardmode true melee weapon) and 1 mage armour set (that nearly halves your damage output). Vampire knives suffer from a complete lack of competition which is why they're so much stronger than anything else could hope to be. If there was a strong mage or ranged or summon weapon (or ammunition) that offered lifesteal, vampire knives would fade fast and people would be all over the scourge as a melee weapon for its ease of use, range and damage. But fact of the matter is lifesteal is pretty much a vampire knives exclusive.
I think Xenopopper might be a reference to cave story since there is a gun there that does the exact same thing except you can charge it to delay the bubble explosion.
Bubbline is such a good gun early-to-mid (Cave) story. Rapid fire lightning bolt-spamming goodness that also doubles as a shield of bubbles prior to them actually firing? Wouldn't mind that being in Terraria, 1:1.
I actually gave this shotgun a try for once. And honestly, It isn't all that bad and is pretty fun too use and unique. Takes some getting used to though with the tiny delay before bullets get fired though (Edit: "honestly actually" lol)
In my opinion the Xenopopper is only worth it if you get it on accident while fighting martians. I fought the martians a minimum of 10 times before it dropped and then immediately stopped using the weapon once me and my friends killed the vortex pillar like stated in the video. It’s a super cool concept but you stop using it very quickly
More underused Ranged weapons: Nail gun- Deals insane dps for being post mech boss, it is even useful on the Cultist Elf Melter- Great for crowd control, only use if you have slime statue Piranha gun- Shreds Golem's arms and can basically predict where the real Cultist will be when he does his illusion attack
Piranha gun is also a great "classic summoner" weapon, the sort where you just let your minions fight and you yourself focus on dodging. Extremely helpful in a fight you don't know well and also shines in fights where bosses just will not hold still lol
I actually prefer the electrosphere launcher because all you need is a cyborg which is easily accessible, I prefer tier 3 rockets but all others except cluster rockets dry rockets, and such with special qualities, it has a reoccurring hit that with the right armor can make quite a punch especially when you can shoot multiple areas, it shreds through moon lord and others with the correct strat, hella worth it more than the Xenopopper (which is still good.)
As another commenter mentioned, Scourge of the Corrupter is also really good and underrated. As for personal picks for underrated weapons, I'd go with the Shadowflame Knife and Bow, as well as the Toxikarp
The only reason Xenopopper isn't as famous as most range weapons is because of how hard it is to obtain. Keep in mind it only has a 1/9 chance of dropping from the Martian saucer.
Shotguns in this game usually have the highest dps of all ranged weapons at the stage of progression you can get them if you can hit all the bullets, my gun weapon progression usually goes like musket>boomstick>quad-barrel shotgun>phoenix blaster>shotgun>onyx blaster>tactical shotgun>xenopopper>vortex beater>sdmg I also find it a shame that the sdmg is so bland for an endgame weapon compared to everything else, its literally just a roided minishark.
I love Terraria, but I do have to agree on not really liking the fact, that so many fun items and weapons get overlooked, simply because of their tight or weird placement in the progression. Would love to expand my horizons each playthrough, but I always end up using the same things simply because they are more effective, than the ones, that are more fun or cool looking.
I usually play expert/master mode now that they're available, but have found myself enjoying messing around recently on a new classic world and just using whatever weapons are cool to me rather than what's most efficient like I'm used to having to do on the harder difficulties.
ive never really liked ranged so i havent really used it, but i always thought the xenopopper was on the more interesting side of ranged weapons. being able to shoot it around corners if youre hiding from an event or certain enemy or something is pretty neat
xenopopper was always one of my favorite ranged weapons in the game since journeys end, even if it typically gets replaced right after the vortex pillar, it's still really fun to use and really solid
To be honest I'm the type of player that uses a shotgun over all other ranger guns other than the chain gun and the sdmg just to not worry about bullets and not having to constantly touch the screen to deal damage
While we're on the topic of Martian Madness, could you take a look at the Charged Blaster? I really didn't think anything much of it when I gave it to my mage friend in a recent playthrough, but he actually enjoyed using this weapon
I remember playing with a group of 3, we were about to fight Duke Fishron, and I was the ranger at the time, I remember staying in one spot with Shroomite armor, the Xeno popper and some chrolophyte bullets, I absolutely shredded Duke lol
I ADORE the Xenopopper and i think it is a decent weapon with its good firerate. With clorophyte bullets it can absolutely demolish some bosses and it has good dps overall.
i'd love a xenopopper upgrade like, you can spawn the bubbles in, but you can pop them all on command with holding rightclick, and clicking rightclick would only pop 1. so you could set up a huge minefield up bullet bubbles!
the thing with it is that its just a tactical shotgun with funky aiming systems attached, yes, in terms of dps, its definitely better, but in terraria, a 1/9 drop is either 100% or 0.1%, and i just cant be bothered to farm upwards of 20 saucers to get this thing, personally, im sticking to the tactical shotgun
Why tf are these videos always so fucking loud man xD Like theyre good videos but why are they always just 5 times louder than any other video on this damn plattform lmao

honestly, weapon i overlook the most? handgun and the pheonix blaster. by time you get into the dungeon, chances are you already have a better gun alternative than the handgun, and don't need the pheonix blaster or don't even know of its existence.
The way I trigger my martian events are when I mine my own freaking business like hell I was just building my duke fishron arena 3 spawned while I was doing that
You can get chaingun instead which is very close in damage and you can get it earlier than xenopopper. So its kinda pointless. Unless you are grinding for saucer mount.
