the only source of emotions he has either than his sarcasm is the picture of him smiling that he uses and the smile he rarely give off because of something stupid
I remember playing this on floppy discs in elementary school. For those of us who made it to side B, we were regarded as gods among the the rest of the classmates because it was so hard to stay alive long enough to get halfway through the game
Funny story actually, back in my 3rd grade computer class, my teacher had us play this game, and our grade turned it into a semi gambling ring where we would bet on 2 people, whoever beat it faster than the other person would win 50% of the all of the bets, and the people who bet would split the their share depending on who bet the most. I had the 3rd fastest time which was around the lower end of 9 minutes, and the fastest kid had a time somewhere in the 7 minute range, the best kid at the game made somewhere between 250 - 400 dollars + plus other miscellaneous stuff like Pokémon cards before our school found out and shut the game down due to someone betting their mom’s wedding ring and losing their bet. Never thought I would see this game ever again, good times.
@@abrahamlincoln4399 not a Reddit guy… It’s just one of the only good school stories I have, I actually never thought I would see someone playing this game this far into the future, thought it was one of those games that just becomes forgotten after its time.
I'm old enough to remember playing this game in the school library. You have two duties: a) name all your characters swear words so when people come across your tombstone they'll see "here lies shit" b) TRY to beat the game as a farmer without anyone dying
sam has all the standards to be a teacher- emotion less can be paid minimum wage understand what a meme is and first impressions looking like a gym teacher
Couple tips from an OG Oregon Trailer: Play as the farmer if you want the highest score. Less money but all your points get multiplied at the end. If the river is shallow enough, ford it. Fording just means rolling right through the water. Less than 5 feet or so and you should be fine. I know it's not great for speedrunning, but hunting is the best part of the game. The rafting section at the end has always been in the game as far as I know. I've seen at least half a dozen different versions from blocky green screen Atari 2600 esque up to 90s era.
The threshold for being able to ford a river is 2.5 feet. There's even a piece of advice in the game if you "talk to people" somewhere that says "don't try to ford any river deeper than the wagon bed - about two and a half feet." Often when I ford at exactly 2.5 feet I get stuck in the mud and lose a day, but don't lose any supplies or people.
"After Sid died things started turning around for the better" What else would you expect from Sam who not only skipped the gravesites, but also paid his disrespects? 😅
My school made us play it in 3rd grade, I beat it in like 1M mins and you NEED to read the things like recommendations for weather + when getting the ox you got 9 yoke and 3 is in a yoke so 9x3=27 so you got 27 ox not 9 (Btw sorry if you find this offensive)
My family came to Oregon on the Oregon trail and became farmers and part of the apple gate trail comes through some of our land and there used to be some ruts from the wagons
I remember in 4th grade, we were learning about the Oregon trail, then our teacher let us play this game and would give us a reward if we won (none of us won)
I played this game I'm Social Studies! When I died I had the option to write something on my tombstone. I wrote "Not my best idea ". My ss teacher found it funny.
I remember playing this game in 3rd grade and nobody could beat it, now watching this video I realized the lake minigame was the last thing and I was so close but died on it
I have an electronic handheld of this game, and I actually win it every time, by literally hunting for food every time our food supply seems to run low.
I live in Oregon too, never played it once which is odd. But we did have an entire unit dedicated to it and my class rode in an actual Oregon trail wagon so that was cool
A ton of food is quite a bit. But what the game doesn't seem to take into consideration is that at a grueling pace, you loose all of your vitamins and minerals. And they won't get replaced on a diet of coffee, flour, smoked pork jerky (bacon), and sugar. Your entire group would be suffering from scurvy probably within the first month of travel. It also seems to undervalue dehydration / sun stroke at a grueling pace with low or no water. Not bashing the player, but the game simply doesn't take into account the human factor and the impact of the elements on the pioneers. And honestly, if you play as the farmer, you have no money to work with. The trip takes forever because you have to constantly stop to hunt for more food. Which gets scarce the further west you travel. Additionally, 40 sets of clothes was plenty. five sets per person would likely work for shirts and pants, but items such as socks and shoes would very likely have to be replaced more than once while on the trail. And if people walking with the wagons got blisters on their feet, this would impact the travel speed as well. So shoes would need to stay in good repair and the socks would need to be changed out daily. Further, oxen are known for their strength and endurance. Not for their speed. Your pace is going to be at about 2 miles an hour or about 20 miles a day on open praire. Which means you likely wouldn't reach Oregon until late September to early October regardless of the pace you set. Your limitations would be on the oxen and not the humans walking with the wagon.
