I used to think people were crazy the things they would tell me sometimes but I’m like you I’ve learned over the years that most of the time they know what their talking about. Yes it pays to listen I agree.
I too have been guilty of finding & rectifying an obvious issue and calling it done. Definitely a great reminder to be thorough and get a full picture before closing out.
I appreciate the video and honest dialogue at the end! I am also very glad to see that you did not use any chemical coil cleaner on that particular all-aluminum coil. Well done, you clearly know what you're doing.
I just cleaned a friend's system afew days ago. So dirty and wires a rats nest. Painted the outside with a paint used for roofing. Plan to make a fpy screen filter for outside to catch most of the dust.
@qualityhvacr Really love your videos and appreciate the high quality work you do. I’ll be changing careers to HVAC soon and would love too see another load out video and any tools you recommend someone starting out in the trade. Thanks for another video!
I had a hunch that the field piece job link probes were water proof but never actually put it to the test. For example, cleaning a coil with the probes still connected, but now I know. Thanks buddy……also, I like the fact that you didn’t soak that Trane coil with chemicals to clean it. I have never needed chemicals on any residential coil.
Customer interaction would be something awesome to hear your thoughts on. How do you approach customers with issues like a dirty coil? how do you explain your charges? How do you explain things like this where you thought in one direction, but then the unit steered you in another. These are some of the most difficult things that techs face on the jobsite. Even more than the service work itself.
We used to be an American Standard dealer. Then the supply issues started happening, and the evap coils were shipped empty, (not sealed), and many had leaks from the factory. We're not an American Standard seller any more.
we have same unit except the compressor is black and that one is red it shows how imporatant it is to have your unit serviced in spring and fall so it stays clean and in good working order.
I'm not a HVAC tech but I have to ask do those ECM motors really save that much money vs PSC seems like the ecms are quite a bit of trouble on a side note my wife and I recently purchased a new large window unit and I backed away from the fancy inverter units thanks to watching these videos
They do not. But manufacturers are trying to meet ASHRAE guidelines for efficiency. Efficiency = more garbage and headaches. Don't worry though its more "green"!
The rls add in the beginning makes me bring up this, my only 2 supply houses in my local area has sold sporlan zoom lock/made by rls for years and for some reason both have now switched to selling zoomlock max and rls is not making them for sporlan anymore. Bullshit. No one has the jaws for the max fittings and no one's gunna shell out 1500 or more to buy a new set of jaws. Original rls made zoomlock was better fittings anyway,I wouldn't even use the max junk sporlan is selling. They look like the water fittings with a bigger o ring. Just figured I share that for anyone who may not know there's now 2 refrigerant press brands out there and the jaws are not compatible with one another. Guess I gotta find an online dealer now. Edit seems like there's another refrigerant press brand around now called streamline. Made in Korea they have a double. O ring style and obviously would need special jaws as well. Wtf
I really enjoy watching your videos man! I recently obtained my contractors license after 10 years in the Army. I do mainly residential but want to get more into commercial as my license covers up to 25 tons in Florida. Do you know of any advanced RTU training classes you can recommend? I am planning on attending Carrier University in NC later this year for one. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Keep the videos coming! 😎💪🏽✌️
At the 1:30 mark of the video, I would say “ STOP”. This unit needs about 2 hours of cleaning BEFORE even bothering to troubleshoot anything. This is the perfect job for “the kid” to do. Every shop has a new guy to get some experience . It’s also not fair to the customers that DO keep up with cleaning because you have to waste your time while customers with REAL problems are waiting.
Do you have any recommendations for where to buy digital gauges and hoses? They seem so pricey everywhere. I want a really good set, but I don’t want to break the bank.

Another Quality HVACR video that I'm very grateful to view. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us all!

I love the gas line running thru the duct work haha

Easiest way to clean a spine fin is with a mapp gas torch and water. Especially with cottonwood buildup. Trane taught us that many many years ago.
"whoosh" goes the cottonwood. 🤣
We normally carry a universal x13 motor 1/2 and 3/4 hp,they run between 250 and 300.not too bad.in and out 45 min.

Always good practice to diagnose on a clean unit anyway.
The crappy part is now all blowers are using modules....
Well done job zac, that unit sure was grubby, now a huge improvement with your clean. I look forward to the next repare vid 👍 Au

I agree. Its rare to actually need coil cleaner. I use coil cleaner more on cleaning blower wheels and drain lines lol
The natural gas line running through the supply takeoff was special. I’ll just say, not in my town. Two inspectors wear glasses but they aren’t blind.

Spike fin Trane coils can be stopped up (almost completely) and still not effect the operation👍🏻
Should keep some rescue motors on the truck they always come in clutch
Love the steady posts !
Spine fin coils can still transfer heat even if moderately dirty .
Woow Im Impresed with the way he works woooow I want to be just like him
Dude be nice if our suppliers had what we need when our customers need them . Good food for thought Hoss

Good work Zack.
That coil was really not that bad.
Trane is the worst for ordering parts for. Nothing but problems. So glad I don't have to many to work on in my area.
Hey @Quality HVACR , I just wondering were did you put the clamp to check subcooling and superheat in that specific unit , thank you
Happens to me all the time , keep and open mind!

Good advice! But 9 times out of 10 the customer says "I think the thermostat is bad." 😁
5:01 Almost left a fortune in the unit 😂
I left one of my temp clamps on a lineset somewhere... Hope I service it again, because all the customers I called said they did not see it.
Tech tip bring your bucket 🪣 😊nice work
I hate them intermittent issues. At least it acted up when you were there and not after you left. Just throw an evergreen motor in there

Great video keep up the great content. I have a question why do you label your poses High and Low when they have the color already on them?
Let’s have a have tool bag everyday care for this year
Great work 👍
If those clamps hadn't blocked the lid, those clamps would have stayed there. Haha! That's how we technicians lose our tools. Success!
When you open the lid, do you see a family of mice living inside?😁
my favorite thing about those units is to replace the evap coil. You must first remove the condenser coil.
No you don't. These coils are mu favorite to replace they are pretty straight forward.
Great 🎉 job... it's always something 😂
Hey did you buy that hvac company?
Hey Zack , have you ever tried the torch method to clean the condenser on those Trane units by burning off the dirt ?
Awful idea let’s be honest here
I've done it...but not on Trane/American Std. units. And only if it's mostly cottonwood.
Do you have any recommendations for where to buy digital gauges and hoses? They seem so pricey everywhere. I want a really good set, but I don’t want to break the bank.
No gluves whit all the garebisch ?
Looks like new
5:06 i know that laugh 😅
why does Tennessee have so many package units?
It never does on a Trane comb coil.
What brand leatherman/light holster is that on your belt?
Could you use after market parts to fix it
I am from India and I am an HVAC technician. I want to work outside India.
Stay in india
@@eastonwilliams1722 LOL
Come on over, man. Plenty of work, but our politicians suck.
Has anyone used the "universal" ecms?
I put one in the other week. Worked fine.
You need a new t-shirt that says "cleaning lady" did you tell customer it should be cleaned at least every ten years.... that was really bad...
Those ecm blower motors are total garbage and difficult to troubleshoot that intermittent crap!..
That tree caused most of that problem it should be removed
just add a capacitor and a relay along with a rescue motor and it will outlast the unit
A pair of gloves might help you, my friend
No gloves?
