nah i love Vice city and san andreas IV felt barebones and IV felt like it couldn't even do the basics right like why are the physics soooo bad.. it feels like one of the "GTA clones" on ps2, where they thought throwing in features without giving them any attention was the way to go the way you can just quickly 'unflip' your car when it was upside down so easily was so ridiculous.. it didn't feel like it was building up from GTA 4 like san andreas built up from vice city

VCS is one of my favorites, and I didn't find it all that difficult until "Light My Pyre". That was so ridiculous, that I had to spawn a tank after the Nth time I tried it. Still, due to some QTOL improvements to the game, most missions were pretty doable without save scumming.
great tier list, and I agree with most of it. only thing I'm half/half on is LCS - I think the heavy use of ingame cutscenes and asset re-use is less due to budget and more managing the expectations of the PSP. All of Rockstar's previous attempts at handheld titles were games the handhelds of the era were woefully underpowered for, and it really showed. I think the cutbacks and simplicity in LCS is more Rockstar making sure the PSP could handle the game without major bugs, and even so, the PSP and PS2 versions had real lag issues.
I agree, he left out the thought that this was the best Rockstar could do with the knowledge that have of the hardware. The PSP was brand new when they released LCS, & obviously not every optimization or perfect path for coding a game on the system was discovered yet, so for what they had they certainly did what they could in the moment. Same with GTA Advance, for the hardware it's a really good game, just the fact they could do the map of Liberty City on a GBA is incredible, & for the time the game was super impressive. It's an issue of hardware limitations, Rockstar could've done better if the GBA was more powerful, same with the PSP, but for what they were given they did their best.
I'm glad GTA III was my first. Its probably still my favorite and certainly the one holding the most nostalgia. And I did play them all, and completed all 3D era games for the full 100%, GTA IV also. They are all great, but GTA III was absolutely revolutionary at the time, every kid played it! I even remember my friend giving me a phonecall to tell me he got to the second island and that the banshee was just driving there freely, it was a magical time!
VI should honestly have a Vice City vibe imo. Something not as wacky as V, but not as gritty as IV. A happy medium that reflects the glitz and glamor of Miami, with traces relating its way back to its former glory in the 1980s
GTA V is my personal favorite. I feel like that game has everything for any type of player. Especially with the addition of online. GTA online does have flaws but it expanded the idea of what GTA can be. Consistent DLC, Character Creator, unique car collections, unique plane collections, Businesses, races, team death matches, and especially Heists. These features have allowed the game to stay relevant for 10+ years and still beat out new games. That is extremely impressive and can’t be ignored.

I think the issue with a tier-list of RDR games, Max Payne, Manhunt, L.A. Noire, Bully, Midnight Club, Table Tennis etc. would be cool but the games are so different to one another & it's pretty clear he's most into GTA. It's got a lot more room for error & for him to have just not played a game, especially since before GTA 5 Rockstar was pumping out new releases constantly.
IV, VC, and V remain my top three. I agree with your takes on mostly everything here too and it's nice to see other fans can point out flaws with San Andres (Sweet is still a Busta) and not being blind to nostalgia (many admit they are but thats good if you straight up love it without that)
while some parts of this topic can always be chalked up to being subjective opinions one thing that SA never gets credit for is how much better and usable the controls are and how much it improved simple core gameplay fundamentals like movement, aiming and how much easier it is to walk or strafe while shooting. These are objectively for all practical purposes things that SA just improved massively and why Vice City will always be at a disadvantage when compared to SA. VC and IIIs controls are vastly more limited bordering on janky and you cant even move your camera while driving. Simple things like that make SA just more enjoyable while playing and I feel like you nor most people ever give it credit for those big things while just nitpicking everything like the map supposedly being too big
Exactly! How is VC over SA when you can climb, roll, swim, dive, operate a military jet, fly a damn jetpack, build fat or muscle, properly customise your character and even tune cars in SA. Objectively it’s not even close, SA is leaps and bounds over VC, but because VC city also has a few things that SA didn’t have the vibe and feeling of miami and the greatness of Tommy Vercetti, i understand why someone would like it better, it is just an opinion at the end of the day.
To get the GTA San Andreas grand theft, auto vice city and GTA three you need a PS five or PS4 and you need the version of the game that has all the games in one if you don’t have that you need a PS2 Xbox 360 maybe and a PS3 GTA four Xbox 360 or PS3 and the other games I don’t know

The best way to play the first two games are on a Windows XP computer with the actual old CD discs. The online multiplayer still works :) (Also London 61 is the bad one, London 1969 is great)

Gta 5 ruined the entire franchise, it completely changed the company and was the result of Leslie benzi, Dan and Sam howzer removal from the company. They were the head creators of all the games mentioned that were great and started focusing specifically on micro managing fans and over emphasizing on micro transactions and recurrent consumer spending… the games are no longer rockstar games, it’s a take 2 interactive product now… the series died with the release of 5 period
Actually GTA 4 introduced an online mode. So if anything it built the foundation of the ruination. But blaming a game for the decisions of the people making the games is dumb. It's the developers or whoever decided to focus more on online. So GTA 5 did nothing.

Great lis! Although, I can’t completely agree in regards to LCS being “unfortunately” psp games. I played it when it was new on psp, and it was a blast, I remember being blown away that I could play a GTA game on the go, and I took my psp everywhere around that time so I spent most of that time playing LCS. I get your point about you preferring to play it on PS2, but personally, I felt it was great as a psp game, but less than stellar for a console game.
Love the VCS love, severely underrated and deserves its spot but the original VC isn't better than SA by any stretch of the imagination. People aren't revisiting and having as much fun with VC in 2023 and didn't at the time. There was a lot of SA nitpicking. Also TLAD story blows TBoGT out of the water. As far as IV, people played online mostly on the original than either of the dlcs.
honestly for me both vice city and san andreas go below s just because how absolutely inaccessible and buggy they are. for modern standards. gta 4 and the ballad of gay tony are the stars for me. 5 is aight but the driving is not as enjoyable, and im not that big of a fan of the abilities. gta 5 also showed everyone but niko at some point, like all the reference we get is from patrick in some filler dialogue on the way to some heist mission. i also didnt like what they did to johnny, even though in my opinion he actually has less character than claude, the silent guy. i just hope that they make driving feel actually enjoyable and engaging by itself again in 6.
Gta online and rdr online to me are both at least A tier. The reason being they have both helped funned rockstars single player which is alway detailed and in-depth. Oppose to other devs which just chuck out the same old online games

GTA 4 is without colour. Everything is grey. Car mechanic is bad. GTA 5 is the best for my. Lots of fun stuff to do. Very good and sometimes funny missions. Even in the 10 years but the graphic still hold on in this days. Mechanic is the best of all gta games. Old games is just a nostalgia, but there don’t was that good as gta5.
Your points on GTA 4: TBoGT are spot on! I loved every second of that game, & it's one of the few GTA games I played till I finished the story & onward. The take it has on Liberty City is one we just never saw beforehand, every game in LC before was gritty & trying it's hardest to keep you in a dull or sad mood, showing you what that life is, but TBoGT shows you the vibrant night life of the city & proves that LC never truly sleeps. You get exaggerated missions that may not be sensical (stealing a train car or jumping out of half a plane in midair), but make for awesome & memorable experiences! All the characters are likable & clearly play a roll we need, even Evens & a handful of other short-lived characters. The new cars were great additions to the franchise, same with the new helicopters & weapons which literally change how you play the game. Using locations we don't visit often in the base GTA 4 & TLaD makes it feel like we're seeing new territory. Luis is one of the most one-man-army protagonists in the whole franchise, & is also just a nice guy who care a lot for his friends & family, & will do anything to protect them. The ties to the main story made sense & fleshed out characters I thought needed some more care put into. Overall it was one hell of a time & I can't believe it took me until 2 years ago to finally play through it!

Gta 3 is how I spent my time in the army as an infantryman. Vice city was my favorite to this day. Not sure if it was cuase I spent the most time on it. #3 would be 4 or specific lost and damned

GTA Online is S tier in my mind, I grew up playing it on 360, PS4, and PC. On pc it does have issues with hackers but I cant tell you how enjoyable GTA Online with with friends, So many fun mems when heist came out etc, game modes were fun asf, and that's when cars didn't cost 10 million each, so before the shark card inflation thing. But even now sometimes I fire up the old ps4 to play with my friends and it never fails to have us die laughing.

LCS was great if you where into collecting rare vehicles with special abilities.

The best way to play the first two games are on a Windows XP computer with the actual old CD discs. The online multiplayer still works :)

I don't know whether to call it ignorant or just pitiful, but for some stupid reason, people apparently forget that tier lists are nothing more than the OPINIONS of the person making them at the end of the day. No two tier lists for anything-let alone a game series-are ever going to look exactly the same as each other. Tier lists are solely meant to express the opinion on a topic from the user making the tier list.
You fools act like it's meant to represent all popular consensus on a topic across the board, but it's not. Because then what would be the point of making tier lists in the first place? There's no such thing as "objective" with opinion-based things like this, and there realistically can't/won't be.
In ANY tier list for any topic, there's going to be something said or a ranking made that is different from yours. And that's OKAY. That's normal. What's NOT normal is clicking on a tier list video and then bitching when someone has even a slightly different opinion than yours. Why are you watching a tier list video to get someone's thoughts on something if you're just going to bitch about it anyway? No game series is ever going to reach a universal consensus on “best game” in a series, and it’s an unrealistic expectation for such a thing to happen.

Gta 5 ruined the entire franchise, it completely changed the company and was the result of Leslie benzi, Dan and Sam howzer removal from the company. They were the head creators of all the games mentioned that were great and started focusing specifically on micro managing fans and over emphasizing on micro transactions and recurrent consumer spending… the games are no longer rockstar games, it’s a take 2 interactive product now… the series died with the release of 5 period

They promised to release a story dlc to gta 5 but because online being too succesful, the dlc was aborted entirely
Actually GTA 4 introduced an online mode. So if anything it built the foundation of the ruination. But blaming a game for the decisions of the people making the games is dumb. It's the developers or whoever decided to focus more on online. So GTA 5 did nothing.

Great lis! Although, I can’t completely agree in regards to LCS being “unfortunately” psp games. I played it when it was new on psp, and it was a blast, I remember being blown away that I could play a GTA game on the go, and I took my psp everywhere around that time so I spent most of that time playing LCS. I get your point about you preferring to play it on PS2, but personally, I felt it was great as a psp game, but less than stellar for a console game.

Love the VCS love, severely underrated and deserves its spot but the original VC isn't better than SA by any stretch of the imagination. People aren't revisiting and having as much fun with VC in 2023 and didn't at the time. There was a lot of SA nitpicking. Also TLAD story blows TBoGT out of the water. As far as IV, people played online mostly on the original than either of the dlcs.

honestly for me both vice city and san andreas go below s just because how absolutely inaccessible and buggy they are. for modern standards. gta 4 and the ballad of gay tony are the stars for me. 5 is aight but the driving is not as enjoyable, and im not that big of a fan of the abilities. gta 5 also showed everyone but niko at some point, like all the reference we get is from patrick in some filler dialogue on the way to some heist mission. i also didnt like what they did to johnny, even though in my opinion he actually has less character than claude, the silent guy. i just hope that they make driving feel actually enjoyable and engaging by itself again in 6.

GTA 4 is without colour. Everything is grey. Car mechanic is bad. GTA 5 is the best for my. Lots of fun stuff to do. Very good and sometimes funny missions. Even in the 10 years but the graphic still hold on in this days. Mechanic is the best of all gta games. Old games is just a nostalgia, but there don’t was that good as gta5.

Your points on GTA 4: TBoGT are spot on! I loved every second of that game, & it's one of the few GTA games I played till I finished the story & onward. The take it has on Liberty City is one we just never saw beforehand, every game in LC before was gritty & trying it's hardest to keep you in a dull or sad mood, showing you what that life is, but TBoGT shows you the vibrant night life of the city & proves that LC never truly sleeps. You get exaggerated missions that may not be sensical (stealing a train car or jumping out of half a plane in midair), but make for awesome & memorable experiences! All the characters are likable & clearly play a roll we need, even Evens & a handful of other short-lived characters. The new cars were great additions to the franchise, same with the new helicopters & weapons which literally change how you play the game. Using locations we don't visit often in the base GTA 4 & TLaD makes it feel like we're seeing new territory. Luis is one of the most one-man-army protagonists in the whole franchise, & is also just a nice guy who care a lot for his friends & family, & will do anything to protect them. The ties to the main story made sense & fleshed out characters I thought needed some more care put into. Overall it was one hell of a time & I can't believe it took me until 2 years ago to finally play through it!

GTA Online is S tier in my mind, I grew up playing it on 360, PS4, and PC. On pc it does have issues with hackers but I cant tell you how enjoyable GTA Online with with friends, So many fun mems when heist came out etc, game modes were fun asf, and that's when cars didn't cost 10 million each, so before the shark card inflation thing. But even now sometimes I fire up the old ps4 to play with my friends and it never fails to have us die laughing.
