    Wow, not again. I am afraid that I need to find other ways to get to Phantom Ranch during the closure. Thank you for sharing this valuable information, I really appreciate it.

      It seems like they just don't care about hikers at all. What a pity.

      It sure makes it hard to plan, when they keep on changing the dates. They do not even open up until the day before rim to rim season in 2025. That will make planning difficult.

      This pipeline repair is taking more time than the original pipeline construction. That is sad.

      Yes, it does irk me a bit. I had two hikes planned in November (great weather), that I will have to re-route. My posting was mostly intended to be a public service, I am surprised so many people have watched it. I have been real busy lately and not had time for RUclips, but hopefully by the end of this week things will calm down and get back to normal. Hope all is well with you.

    It seems to be a major project. Two weeks ago, a quarter mile to Indian Garden, I noticed a few medium size bulldozers on the ground, The workers told me that they were hauled over there by a helicopter!

    • @RationalTalk
      @RationalTalk  29 дней назад

      Those helicopters must have quite a payload! Way back, they used to have a small tramline that they even used to send trucks into the Canyon. It ran from Lookout Studio to near three mile resthouse. Thanks for your comment!

    Thanks for the information! I was considering coming out in November but I might wait until May. Although, couldn't I still hike down south Kaibab trail to Phantom Ranch, then hike back up South Kaibab and catch Tonto Trail to Havasupai Garden and then up Bright Angel? Also, what are the chances of snow in Mid November? I drive a rear-wheel drive car. Thoughts?

    • @RationalTalk
      @RationalTalk  29 дней назад +1

      Another commentor said Bright Angel will be open South of the Tonto junction, but I do not see that in print. If that is your plan, you might want to get verification from the backcounty office, which is the unit at Grand Canyon that seems the most responsive.
      Snow is unpredictable, but in general does not start in earnest until December, and some years there is hardly any at all. The AZ highway department does a good job plowing and sanding the roads, so road closures are rare, and two-wheel drives seem to get along quite well with the modern traction control. But with that said, I remember one year on October 15 when there was 18" of snow on North Rim and about 12" on South.
      To me, November is an ideal time to hike. Come May, it will likely be hot and pretty crowded with the rim to rim (to rim) groups, so if you can risk the weather issues, November strikes me as a better time.
      I hope you have a great hike!

    Can I ask where you got the info regarding the Tonto Trail between BA and SK being closed?
    The NPS website says: "Visitors will still be able to use the upper portion of the Bright Angel Trail, from the South Rim to Havasupai Gardens, and the Tonto Trail during the Oct. 21, 2024-May 14 closure period".
    People on other sites have also verified with park staff that the whole Tonto Trail will be open.

    • @RationalTalk
      @RationalTalk  29 дней назад +1

      That was my best reading of the announcement at the time I did the video. Tonto West being open (from Plateau Point and West) was clear, but my reading was that Tonto East from Bright Angel would not be accessible. Their website still reads, "New inner canyon closure dates are: Bright Angel Trail north of Havasupai Gardens and the Silver Bridge that crosses the Colorado River, Oct 21, 2024-May 14, 2025" Tonto East is North of Havasupai Garden. It would be great if the Park has clarified that Tonto East will be open, as I like to do that loop hike in February, when the temperatures are relatively cool. Thanks for your clarification.

    The second syllable of Kaibab, is pronounced BAB, not BOB.
