100% It might be my favorite cups and balls routine ever (considering we all missed the first 3,000 yrs of performers). No jest whatsoever though. This is CLASSIC magic done at its best by one of the all time greats.
A masterful routine performed by a legend of magic. I have just retired from a 45-year career as a comedy magician, and without Paul Daniels, it would never have happened.
@@---zu9qy I was fortunate to appear on a British television talent show called New Faces in 1978. I scored over 100 points, and although I was not the winner, I was able to appear again in what they called "The Near Misses show." After this, agents took notice, and it enabled me to turn pro. :) Paul saw me and helped me form a practical cabaret act that fits in a briefcase so I could perform a good few shows a night (easy reset, etc.).
RIP Paul. Took this close-up effect and against almost every notable magicians opinion, turned it in to a stage piece. Great performance! He still owes you that £50.
Absolutely far and away the best performance of this trick I've ever seen. Literally watched it about a hundred times and his timing and delivery is perfect. Highly underrated magician.
best I can figure is he has it palmed in the hand picking up the cup and when he sets the cup down to say wrong, he drops the ball as he lifts to reveal. not sure, just looks like the ball drops an inch or so to the table as he lifts.
@@Kraft581 is it using his sleeves although i imagine the ball would roll? I have done a routine just for fun like where i made some lemons and mangos appear- baffling the school but this trick continues to amaze me with its simplicity and this man continues to confuse me into tears ;/
The best sleight of hand trick I've ever seen. A true master of his craft and a massive part of my childhood. Thanks for the memories Mr Daniels. RIP Sir.
RIP Mr Magic... we all liked you... not a lot, but we did... thanks for the wonder and for the entertainment and for the magic, good journey to magic-land.
Watching the Paul Daniels Magic Show on the Beeb was as much of my childhood as Dr who. A Class Act who I very greatly mis. thank you RUclips for making the Greats available years later, to still be enjoyed in 2020. Only, Penn & Teller come close, and Paul Daniels first introduced me to P&T. And That's Magic !!. RIP Paul, you are very much missed.
I was very lucky to see Paul Daniels live back in 2001 when our new theatre opened. Fantastic performance, he did this cup and ball trick and it still hurts my head how quick he is, he was quick here and quick when I saw him. He was very engaging, excellent with the audience and a delight to have seen live and as close up as I could get. A truly wonderful magician who will be sorely missed.
We are all so lucky that this is on RUclips! Thank you for the loving memory of a man I was never blessed to see perform, but I can still live and connect with this performance!
So sad to hear that one of the world's best magicians has passed away. He will be truly missed by thousands of fans. Paul Daniels 1938 - 2016 Gone, but never forgotten. This is one of the best and most entertaining routines Paul Daniels has done!
This is probably the best performance of this trick I have seen - Thanks very much for uploading, previously I had only seen clips on here and it is great to see the whole routine again. Why Paul Daniels left our screens I will never know. I may not always agree with his opinions or the comments he makes in public from time to time, but IMO there is no doubting that he is the greatest magician this country has ever produced. It is a shame he went out of favour with the general public. I believe he is still performing - I would love to see him live. I know people who have met him and every single one of them has commented on how amiable he is and how passionate he is about his art. Would love to see him back on our TV screens.
The BBC dropped the magic show without informing Paul or Debbie - they only found out because a friend of theirs had an interview to work in the BBC Wardrobe Department and happened to mention that she wanted to do the costumes for the Magic Show and was told it had been cancelled.
@@RJSRdg That's sad to hear. Although I'm not surprised. The BBC seemed to disfavour him for some reason. The fact that we still have a dialogue about him that lasts a decade would prove to most that he is/was a national treasure. RIP Paul. For what it's worth, the last 10 years of watching similar performances has done nothing to change my opinion that this is still the best presentation of cup and balls.
@@helenicblue And yes, you were right - he continued to perform up to the point his illness was diagnosed. I live a few miles upriver from his house and apparently he used to put on a show at his local village fete every year. Sadly I didn't hear about that until after he'd passed away, otherwise I would have made a point of going!
This brings back lovely memories of going to see Paul at the Grand theatre in Leeds with my dad, and then meeting the man himself afterwards but being too shy to say much to him!
Paul Daniels was at Blackpool when my family and I stayed for a weeks holiday during 19879. Pauls show was on the pier and Charlie Williams was in the theatre coco staring Bonney Langford and Lena Zavaroni.
I've seen some astonishing spectacles in magic shows onstage, the Copperfield Saw, Penn and Teller's bullet catch, but this will forever be my favourite trick. Masterful is an understatement, the perfect piece of magic.
Very sad to learn of his death. He was Mr Magic to a whole generation or two. It feels like the death of traditional magic as well. Nobody will ever be what he was to magic. Very engaging and funny guy. As far as I'm concerned, there is no hesitation in saying that he was the greatest magician of all time. Not only for the tricks, but also for the way in which he presented them. It will be an absolute travesty if his name doesn't live on down the years, as one of the greatest entertainers this country has ever produced. I liked him. Not a lot, but I liked him.
Was very fortunate to meet him and spend time with him in Germany, amazing guy, down to earth, was funny as I had no idea what a huge celebrity he was.

I just came here from a vid about "Celebrity deaths in 2016" and I'm so glad I watched it... Got to see this hilarious man and his crazy magic skills because of it :) R.I.P.
I know how this trick is done but his slight of hand is so good it had me confused. Theres still parts i cant work out and thars with watching it slowed right down . Pure genius 😊
This isn't cups and balls. Cups and balls is always done with a trio of cups. This is the holy grail for magicians called the chop cup. It's difficult to make perfect but the effect once done is amazing
Like many people I know how it's done but that's not really the point. The point is not being able to SEE it being done in real time and the smoothness and presentation. We know HOW a great painting it made but can still be impressed by the artistry.
He said it took him 3 years of nearly nightly performances to get to this level in terms of timing, comedy and amazement I mean, I know EXACTLY how he does it - I have his DVD where he teaches EVERYTHING about it I STILL get fooled!
Can't say I've practically liked him very much but a lot of other people did! Another familiar face on TV has gone but we all have to go sometime. RIP Paul and my condolences to Debbie McGee and friends and family.
He is just absolutely the master of that! The way he puts the orange in, I keep rewinding and I know where he's doing it but he's SO fast and so smooth its untrue!
Paul had a youtube channel before he passed away. His number one piece of advice was never flog a principle. If you you use one method in a routine only use it once.
There is a weak magnet in the cup which holds the ball in the top of the cup. Ball has a steel insert. When you bump the cup down on the table a little harder, this dislodges the ball and it "appears" under the cup. There is also second ball as well. You can never get it right where the ball is supposed to be due to the magnet gimmick in the cup.
heelfan1234 It's not about the secret, it's his execution and patter that baffles me, also there are ways to do this without a fake cup as Chop cup routines are pretty skillful routines. I heard he practices this for a long time.
Olya Murphy I am providing a tutorial for any student magicians reading who are considering buying the effect. I help them understand the methods before they part with their cash.
more that 1 ball sorry for ruining it but as he starts he says pay attension to my left have cause if i sneak it into my left hand and it all starts but he sneaks 1 under the cup as he takes the 1 on top
Debbie McGee the wife of Paul Daniels where a dedicated couple and when on holiday during 1980 at Blackpool Paul Daniels was appearing on the pier Happy Chrisman Paul would say to Debie.
Sometimes it's easy to forget just how good he was. Absolutely stunning.
Greatest slight of hand ever. Learned in the military playing cards. The crafty lad.
Incredibly smooth, one of the best versions of a classic routine done perfectly. The patter, the sleight of hand wizardry, timing. Pure class.
Absolutely - this was a remarkably well-constructed and impeccably presented routine
100% It might be my favorite cups and balls routine ever (considering we all missed the first 3,000 yrs of performers). No jest whatsoever though. This is CLASSIC magic done at its best by one of the all time greats.
