No, it's not without its faults, but I do like the way Mazda do things -- their cars are stylish, have nice interiors and are pretty nice to drive. Personally, I'd go for a well specced CX5, but I'd trust one of these over a German brand anyday.
I really want Mazda to succeed for being brave enough to design a new 6 cylinder engine in this day and age, but it seems that the new engine used up all their development budget. It seems like it could do with a bit more polish, but I am impressed. at the economy for an engine with that displacement.
I supose you have had a bad day wen you did this review… I own a Cx60 and I absolutely desagree with some of your comment. It’s a great and pleasant car.
Let’s be logical. If you want to spend less you can buy Skoda Kodiaq or Seat Tarraco for 42000 euro mid spec and 150hp. If you go to the highest trim level and 200hp you can pay up to 55000 euro with some options. These are large cars, reasonable quality and engine. If you go premium to go with Volvo xc60 or bmw 3 with 190hp engine where for mid spec car you will pay between 62000 and 75000 euro as new. All of these cars will be equally fast from 0-100 or 80-120km. Why should you by the Mazda with 200hp, mid spec at 58000euro? No sense. You will buy it with the biggest 254hp engine and the highest trim level at 62000 eur. That car will be twice better in terms of systems, extras and the engine is from another space. Doesn’t have nothing in common with any below 200hp car as mentioned. What is my verdict- by the top Mazda cx60 for 62000eur which will be at the price of low spec basic engine Volvo or BMW and you will get much more in return. Equally spect D30 or D40 BMW will cost you at least 85-90000 euro and will be much better than any other car. But the difference is 20000eur with the Mazda. That’s why you should by the Mazda. If you want a slow car, you can get any other
Because Skoda and Seat and VW and Cupra and etc is the same car with stupid gearbox, driving in city, parking lots is very unpleasant, unpleasant interior quality, outdated exterior and much more. Yes if you need a BIG BOX with wheels, go for it. For example previous version of Lexus RX450h is 7.6s in sports mode (I never get that, why should I switch the mode to get full power, this is stupid..) and yet Lexus price was 75k euros, now the new one 500h is 96k euros, is it faster than x5? is it cheaper? is it better in technologies? NO NO and NO and NO, but its way better in reliability, insurance prices is way lower, its way cheaper to use car dealer services.. So "wHy MaZdA wHeN yOu CaN bUy SkOdA iTs WaY fAsTeR..." 0-100 is not what Mazda is doing ;)
That is for cars manufactured in 2000 or 2010. How comes car developed in 2022 should have a problem. Also the car comes with 6y warranty… I don’t care what could come up in that period
Recently i‘ve driven the D200 and the PHEV back to back. The CX-60 mass production did have a very rocky start and the quality and refinement of the car you get solely depends on the production date of the individual vehicle. The PHEV‘s suspension was terrible when the car was launched and everybody stated that the Diesel was riding much better. Nowadays the PHEV has the much better suspension. I’ll order the PHEV very soon 👍 Edit: ordered the PHEV on Dez 29th 👏
Adaptive cruise control should really be standard in every car. It's probably the best feature to have come along this millennium, in the same way that Stop & Start isn't. What were they thinking, selling a 50k+ car without it as standard? I have to applaud Mazda, a small independent manufacturer generally known for econoboxes and small sports cars, for introducing a straight-six diesel in the times we are living in.
Strange, My 5 year old Mazda has adaptive cruise control and I have never used it, will never use it and I don't know why I should use it. I prefer to drive and control the car myself., but that's just me, milage varies.
@takuan650 in my experience Mazda has lousy ACC, and perhaps this is why you don't feel inclined to use it. I recently drove a VW Amarok (which is basically a Ford Ranger underneath) with ACC in stop and go traffic 20-30 km without ever touching the pedals. It was very well programmed, and I know I could never count on Mazda to deliver that kind of experience. Toyota improved its ACC in recent models, but there are still some hiccups.
@@MarekDrivesENG My Passat B8 tends to detect and brake for cars that are on the off-ramp and not in your lane anymore, which is annoying. It also goes NOPE and slams the brake if you try to pass someone on the right shoulder because they’re turning left. It’s also pretty unrefined in stop and go traffic, both the brakes and the drivetrain. But I probably do 75% of my driving with ACC on. It’s a great invention. Will not ever own a car without it again.
Interesting. Mind you I haven't driven the Passat in several years, so I don't know what "improvements" they made to the software. I assume you have all the settings dialed in, and it's not like you're in the most restrictive setting? Another thing is you driving style. I noticed some people like to drive a bit more aggressively, and then driver aids try to reign them in, which is always an unpleasant experience.
@@MarekDrivesENG I have the following distance set to the longest out of the five settings, and driving mode set to individual because there’s a setting in there to put specifically the ACC in eco mode to make the acceleration a bit less aggressive. I find that my demands for smooth gear changes, acceleration, deceleration etc are way higher when the car is doing them then when i’m driving a completely manual car.
I have 2021 CX-5 194G Advantage. In a year, I want to replace it. Today test drove CX-5 Diesel 200HP as candidate. I simply can't understand this review. Completely wrong. I watched this review first and then test drove car. I almost write off car from the list because of this review. Did you got car with some issue? Engine is great. Gearbox is exactly what you want from these type of car. What did you expect? Linear, has enough power, yeah, if you are gentle with accelerator, it will ramp up power in linear way. Step on it, and it goes very well. I live in Germany, tried max speed, 220 indicated (how much is real have no idea), not an issue at all. Comfort cruse, around 170-180 without drama. Assist systems are good. Not on Tesla level, but comparable with BMW for example. Not better, not worse. My only complain is when you remove foot from accelerator, that engine shuts down, and as soon as you press it again, it restart. It is annoying. But after 20 km, i get use to it and manage not to do that. Or simply switch to sport mode. My choice will be Exclusive-line with 2 packages which has everything like high trim models apart from leather seats and memory functions. I hate leather seats. And that is few EUR less than 55K MSRP. For that amount of money, you can't buy anything comparable from German car brands, others even do not offer this. And for me it is a big deal is it 6-cly and FWD vs RWD. This alone is very unique.
It wont make your steering wheel go back, it is rwd, it drives diffriently from fwd. The sound from this engine is beautiful. And no it does not struggle in normal mode🤦♂️ i have tested this car a lot and it is fenomenal.
Marek could you explain what changed your mind between your review of the PHEV version and this one? If I remember correctly you had a very positive impression of the CX60 in your first review, even praising its value for money. Thanks!
Still go ahead and give it a shot. Automated reviewers can sometimes be influenced by much more expensive cars, so when they experience a good car at a great price, their response can be something like this :)
Diesel is amazing. I love my 1.6 diesel and this version of the Mazda CX-60 is truly very special for me. What Mazda needs to do is simply add a 4wd version , some off road capacity through differentials or/and electronics and there you go you have a mini Toyta Land crusier at 60k , which will make it the car of choice for the sensible family man. Way to go Mazda!
The diesel cx60 is very good in Australian euro 5 spec. No ad blue here. The 6 inline petrol is the one I purchased here. The petrol has better reponse for overtaking out on the regional back roads here. With petrol here being 20to 30cents a litre cheaper than diesel. It is virtually the same running costs. The diesel costs $1,800 Australian dollars more an higher servicing costs, so that's why the petrol is the way to go here.
Typical muddled Aussie government thinking on diesels. Mazda have been producing Euro 6 complaint diesels since 2013. They produce less CO2 or NoX than a Mini. Here is Thailand, diesel has always been a baht (4 cents) cheaper than petrol, but the government have been subsidising it by 5-10 baht/li (20-40 cents) for more than a year. I am saving 600 baht ($24) per month - that covers my annual servicing.
If you don't mind, could you please review the Citroën C4X 130 hp? I've seen your review on the C4, but the C4X has a totally new shape and seems to be more practical.
Diesel is still absolutely amazing if you are doing even moderately long journeys. I love my 1.6 diesel and will keep it even though its the best time to sell cars now. P.S. @Marek Drives in English , ive recently done 2500km in Poland on a road trip with my 1.6 Peugeot diesel and it was amazing. I love your 140km/h ( that everyone drives 150) highways and the lack of stationary speed cameras! Also are the highways always free on weekends or was that something specific to the holidays? Anyway, amazing country, great castles and building and the people are very nice. Totally recommended, only wish is that you had the euro as currency so it is easier to pay everywhere.
The problem is that maybe 50% of the euro price is local tax. The cx60 is not much more than half that price in Japan, so very reasonably priced compared to bmw x3 for example, which starts at twice the price of the cx60. It seems somewhat flung together though and with options that should be standard. But Mazda in Japan is an excellent company and they have actual gearboxes not cvt.
I am displeased by all the flaws this car shows at every review, inclusive this as usual v well done from you Marek, since the idea is in itself great: rwd based, high displacement 6 cyls from a brand who does well with the CX 30 promises way more than what I hear and read. 60 k? What? 570 litres on such a large car? The ex "Weener" a.k.a. the now "French Dish" has 520 and it's substantially smaller. What happened? I drive a Hyundai Kona electric 64 kWh, but for 60,000 € I'd get the Tesla Model Y if I'd choose an EV and probably the ex "Weener" PHEV for the ICE, but not the facelifted shenanigan... That's very unstable compared with the blue one you tested a few years back.
so you basically trashed the car in your review. my takeaway is that I should stay away from an otherwise good car based on other car journalists' reviews
I test drove it myself and cound't be happier with the suspension. Not nearly as stiff as I anticipated after watching countless reviews. I also liked the sound of the engine.
you only need the owners' review tbh. if the drivers are happy then that's it. and tbh, in the end Marek asks ' what do you think about this car?' question. I love Mazda 3, was gonna buy it but the former owners mentioned about the rust problem, even in young models.
Actually I found that Ford does best poverty spec cars. That Vignale trim is the worst value for money one can imagine, but rock bottom Mondeo (when it was still made) was pretty much the same, minus leather and big screen.
@@MarekDrivesENG I agree about Ford and Mondeo 100%. I’ve seen one Vignale at the dealer (which took ages to sell) and the best part was the leather and lack of that hideous rear wiper.
For my sins I’ve just spent on a Ford Ranger Wildtrak. It has all the toys and safety stuff you expect from a 200hp 500Nm 2200kg luxury car but without the luxury ride. I can and have had the VAT paid back though and for a business owner it makes far more sense that a new car. It is to replace the Kia Sorento which is a remarkably good car and will be missed when its business contract hire ends in a few months. Since I already own a Ranger in the business, I know what I’ve let myself in for but this new model is in a different league to the old [2014] model.
@@MarekDrivesENG My Ranger has an electric retracting cover for the 1.5metre lined load bed making it secure and waterproof. I’ve also added a thick rubber mat so that things don’t slide around so much and cut some wood to make a couple of load dividers. Also added a [must have!] shepherds crook, to be able to reach to the front and pull stuff out without having to climb into the bed. It is the tax situation along with the ability to tow 3.5 tons [which I regularly do] that makes this so attractive a proposition. The downsides are a firm, but not ridiculously so, ride and the length for parking. The customisation and options potential is massive. Apart from those listed above I have already sourced 4 by 18” new wheels and tyres to swap with my 20” wheels, bought a drawbar, shackle and a heavy duty tow strap for it. There are plenty of standard Wildtrak new wheels and tyres available for the same price as tyres only, due to the numbers being customised with wider and chunkier items. In truth the elder 2014 Ranger is coming up for new tyres soon and it will be treated to the new wheels and perhaps I’ll fit more off-road tyres to its old wheels, ready to swap for winter and it’s always nice to have several spare wheels ready to go.
This is usual Marek personal non objective vandeta on Mazda product , don't expect a objective criticism here . Non issues are presented as serious issues and laughable nit-picks make me believe Marek got some personal vandeta on Mazda , guess he didn't get a deal from some local dealer so he is now paying it back to the brand 🤣 If I was Mazda I would not give their excellent cars to Marek so he can bash on them .
I seriously wanna know who would buy the lowest trim CX-60, which is by no means cheap to begin with. People may skip a few packages and options, but the lowest spec cars out there are Dacia and they are used for taxi cars. Even company fleets won't go for the lowest trim nowadays. Only in extremely rare cases people would pay 40k+ for a base model, because it has been offered at a discount by a dealer to upsell them and fit within their budget. And I do mean extremely rare! If anyone knows an owner of a brand new and bog-standard CX-60 or something within the category/price range - give a shout in the replies. I'm curious of how that person made a choice.
I also wonder, why would anyone buy a loaded CX-60, when for similar money you can have a similarly specced GLC, and you don't have to explain to everyone, why is Mazda premium these days :)
Really wanted one. But all reviews tell is is not a very good buy. Having to pay so much for none standard options on a very high price car. The German diesels are way faster, smoother ,very efficient. A serious flaw discovered in crash tests. Walk away.
I really want to like Mazda, but they always fall short in some major area. I find the new designs not much of a move from the old designs that have been around forever. And what's up with their odd marketing between Euro cars and NA cars? CX5, CX9, CX30, CX50, CX60, CX70, CX80, CX90? The NA CX70 is going to be so close to the CX60 I'm not sure what the point is. We don't get the diesel only the PHEVs here. Which is fine by me. But the best looking Mazda SUV ie the CX50 doesn't get a PHEV or even a mild hybrid? Anybody home at Mazda?
Yeah, I asked them about the naming scheme, and heard back some BS about global and local models. I think they simple started the single-digit naming scheme before realising they need different models for different markets. We're going to get a CX-80, which AFAIK is a LWB 7-seater CX-60. NA models need to accommodate bigger engines and taste for bigger vehicles.
@@MarekDrivesENG I think that a load of horse droppings that Mazda thinks NA and Europe are that different. I can see an extra smaller car or 2 but to basically double up on the CX60 with a 70 etc just seems like a waste. VW did the Atlas for the Americans and made it as cheap as possible while being huge. I get that, but Mazda isn't doing this. Next up, CX55, 65, 75, 95, 105. wait what happened to the 40s
just like the other brands, Mazda's best models are the older ones, and unfortunately in the UK for the older cars we pay shit loads of road tax. some beautiful cars i would have pay £340 annual tax
@@kevinn1158 Co2 emissions. even mechanics are baffled the way the road tax arranged by the government. I had a 2011 1.6 diesel fiesta and was paying £0 road tax because apparently it was low co2, yet I had to sell it because London does not allow diesel cars older than 2016. from US?

so you basically trashed the car in your review. my takeaway is that I should stay away from an otherwise good car based on other car journalists' reviews
I love Mazda 3, was gonna buy it but the former owners mentioned about the rust problem, even in young models.
this reviewer is paid to thrash some manufacturers. It's transparent actually.
For that kinda money - never! a friend bought a Mazda 3, cost around 30k. Hell nah
ah, the guy who hates mazda

tbh, i have not seen him liking a car 100 pc, except maybe VWs. 🙂
Nothing worse than a nice car in poverty spec
If you can (or have to) live with a pickup bed instead of a proper boot, the Ranger is much better value than this Mazda.
@@MarekDrivesENG
My Ranger has an electric retracting cover for the 1.5metre lined load bed making it secure and waterproof.
I ordered a Mercedes Sprinter a few months ago for about €65k or so; I think it’s a lot more metal for the money.
as always a polish obsessed with bmw
In general german cars... Typical.... The same for Mat Watson in Carwow...

Kia Sorento 2.2 diesel
This is usual Marek personal non objective vandeta on Mazda product , don't expect a objective criticism here .
Non issues are presented as serious issues and laughable nit-picks make me believe Marek got some personal vandeta on Mazda , guess he didn't get a deal from some local dealer so he is now paying it back to the brand 🤣
If I was Mazda I would not give their excellent cars to Marek so he can bash on them .
Walk away.
What is the flaw in the crash test
And so Marek never received a test car from Mazda ever again. :D
Actually I'm going to the MX-30 REX event soon :)
I’ve never heard such rubbish in my life 😂
Marek is woke. He like only EV. This diesel, is pearl
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Diesel only have sense in this class
man, the cars are cheaper in the UK.
At thatvprice range i would buy a 1y old X3 3.0d xdrive and would be more happy. Drives better and has a more mature feeling
Indeed.
@@lutherrhein7697 we don’t have a road tax. What is it based on?
@@kevinn1158 Co2 emissions. even mechanics are baffled the way the road tax arranged by the government. I had a 2011 1.6 diesel fiesta and was paying £0 road tax because apparently it was low co2, yet I had to sell it because London does not allow diesel cars older than 2016.
from US?
CX-60 is not available with a Diesel in Ukraine. Unfortunately...
Do you get the 3.3 petrol then?
@@MarekDrivesENG Yes, 2.5 and 3.3, both with AWD only.
lol, why do you need such expensive cars when the country is at war? the state should nationalise or resell them to keep the war machine going.
@@lutherrhein7697 Excuse me I didn't get what are you laughing at? You may be surprised, but we do have successful businesses in Ukraine and many people can afford not only Mazdas, but really premium cars. Selling cars, purchasing fuel, paying maintenance will bring more money to the state budget as taxes(to keep war machine going), then one time nationalization.
For your information - I'm working for the transport company, and we donated two trucks to UA Army.
That’s the most negative review of this car! And yes I would spend 60k on the CX 60 and not on a 2.0L BMW or mercedes or Audi
4-Cylinder that you see on every street corner!
