- Exiled from South Africa, her concerts and contracts cancelled in the USA due to her marriage to Stokely Carmichael, Pres. Sekou Toure of Guinea invited Miriam to visit Guinea, and a year later she returned to live. Sekou Toure gave her a villa, in Dalaba, which she visits in this documentary, and she had her own group, The Quintette Guineenne, which featured some of the nation's best musicians. She recorded extensively for Guinea's recording label, Syliphone, and lived in Guinea from 1968 to 1986.

Amen!
Wonderful woman. Mama Africa. May her soul rest in peace. She was simply the best.
Miriam Makeba in exile in Guinea. While searching Mandelas story I came across this video. I didn't know Miriam was in Guinea. While in Guinea she integrated and learned Fula, Mandingo and sousou. South Africa have lots great people...#Mandela and Miriam Makeba
I have also just become a big fan of Makeba's because I love how she used her artistry to encourage others.
she speaks so eloquently.
Her love for music brought us so much joy, and you can see feel how much Joy it brought her
I admired Miriam Makeba so much. I always feel sad when she speaks about the passing of her only child.
Guinea❤ and South Africa❤
The music of Faso is an inexhaustible source of sweetness.
It allows us to plunge deep inside ourselves and at the same time resonate with our fellow man, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The is the benefit of Pan-Africanism. Mariam makeba was home anywhere in Africa. America black revolutionnary Stokely Carmichael was home in AfricaPresident.Kwame Nkruma was overthrown in Ghana but was invited by Guinea President Sekou Toure to become the Vice President of Guinea. This is the truest form of Pan Africanism. All of which nationalist agenda can never attain.
I remember seeing her in her Villa doing rehearsal with her group at Madina corniche. Wow has time flies....
Did you meet Stokely Carmichael too?
Fey Rol Stokely , not often in those days. It was sea side villa not far from my primary school. That was between 1970 to 1973.

I would like to be free that where ever I stand I can say this is my land not to watch my brothers and sisters shot down and killed.
I have a question: I have thought a lot recently about the concert Ms. Makeba did with Paul Simon in South Africa. The songs they sang, they were speaking out and letting their voices be heard about injustices. I have often wondered if that concert had anything to do with helping to free Mandela from prison. I think about that because he was released 3 years after that concert was done. Is there anyone who can answer that for me?
yes
Makeba never performed with Paul Simon in South Africa as she was in exiled from 1961 -1990 ,the performance was in Zimbabwe and all over the world, the concert were for the release of Mandela and Political prisoners and for the abolition of Apartheid ,all that happened prior to 1990 when Mandela was released from prison and Makeba only returned to South Africa after Mandela was released and negotiation for a post apartheid were taking place
Kathy K wish I could but make google your friend
@@lemaforex160 well I talk from South Africa with first hand info.
