RS package has always been an appearance-only thing at Chevy, going all the way back to the '67 Camaro Rally Sport which could be had with the 250 six and Powerglide. It's also included as standard with the manual Cruze hatchback.
In Europe we will get it in 2018 as the Open Astra (K gen) OPC. Maybe it will come in the US with Chevy badges and the Cruze costume...? Also another question. Does the US get the diesel engines?
To everyone saying the RS needs a better engine: the RS is solely an appearance package and does nothing for performance. Even the RS Camaro can come with a 4 cylinder.
I like my cruze for the fact that the auto it constantly kicks down a gear and the low end torque is there at about 2500 rpm. It's so comfortable on long trips.
These young folks who do these car videos should drive something like a 1983 Plymouth Turismo(which I did in my younger days) .They are so jaded.Current cars, the Cruze included, are FANTASTIC in every way compared to what people used to drive.!!
wow, the cruze has seriously come a long way now with best in class connectivity, top class size, and one of the lighter entries in this segment. not to mention both inside and out have been improved drastically from an aesthetic stand point over the previous gen.
sam, your entire position is fallacious as this is not a ST/RS competitor by any means. my entire reply was simply acknowledging the extra space, reduced weight, and over all the higher number of connectivity features. now take that illiterate pseudo intellectual comment on yours and re-think it. +BigBitch 2755 hes not going to like you very much, you're an insane stalker who has been following me for the last 7 months, you have issues.
I will admit, this car does not compete with the RS or Golf R. However, the Focus and Fiesta ST and the VW GTI are all very sinilarly priced to this car and fill the same niche, therefore they are direct competiion. I'm not sure why you state what I wrote is illiterate when I can clearly read and write while you misuse words so often. Better buy some more GM stock, Justin.
I'm digging the new Cruze! You can fit 4 full size adults with the versatility of a hatch. This model all around makes sense. I just wish the hp was bumped to 170...nothing crazy, just a little more pizazz. I can live with this easily though.
I really like that orange color. I wish my Elantra GT, which looks EXACTLY like this Cruze hatchback, was that color. The interior of the Elantra GT is a lot nicer than this though with leather seats, navigation, and a giant panoramic moonroof.
+TOR PeRX Just went to the Chevy website's Cruze hatchback configurator, the color is called "Orange Burst Metallic." As someone who is weirdly obsessed with orange cars, I know it when I see it. And this does not look brown. Edit: Wait, that's the joke, huh?
I have one. 2017 Cruze hatch, manual. The transmission is the same one that was in the Gen 1 'Eco'. Has widely spaced 1-2-3-4, 4 is already an overdrive ratio. 4-5-6 are close ratio. Outstanding for getting high economy at suburban and highway speeds, given the engine pulls smoothly from about 1200 rpm. A bit of a pain when accelerating. Yes, the 1-2 change takes a long time. Spring-summer-fall, I typically achieve over 40 mpg over a full tank of driving. If I'm on a road trip, sometimes much more. This car excels at getting high MPG when driven sanely at moderate speeds, say 30-65 mph. I am patient when accelerating though. Keep the revs low, or wait for the revs to climb before pushing the throttle hard. One thing that sold me.. there's real leg room in the back seat.
Overall great car, thinking about upgrading to this Cruze ( I have a 2011 LT model). Just wish there was a little more power and torque to match the sporty look of it
I like your review which is pretty spot on. You bring up points most people don't notice. Good job. The quiet interior is worth some coin. I just wish GM took better care of customer in the showroom. The dealers are atrocious and their communications department has never returned my emails.
2013 Chevy Cruze. Have the six speed manual. This is a dual-clutch system for the six speed. Clutch went bad, at first reverse was hard to engage, quick degraded so I could not get into any gear, mechanic found almost no wear on clutch plates. Dual clutch system cost $700-1000. Clutch job $1,700, from a reasonably priced shop.
Yup, you are right it is a bit slow into 2nd gear. Big mistake GM ! An RPM split of 800 to 900 RPM into second gear is unnecessary in a 6 speed. A close ratio transmission would be wonderful in this car. The designers were not enthusiasts. Their daily driver is an automatic, so they have no clue. I am a pro driver, and a trainer, and will be doing a You tube video on how to shift this car smoothly, up and down all 6 gears with one finger. Follow my advice and your passengers will love the smooth ride. Your clutch and transmission will last the life of the car too. Wait for it !
Roger.u.k. a good looking hatchback but also offer a 2.0 litre turbo diesel a.w.d and a 2.0 turbo gasoline engine ?. G,m. May sell a lot more of these cars ? And do away with the stop start system s on the engines ?
great review! I just want to make a reeeeal quick suggestion. You've made a review on a Scion Tc 2012/2013 model but it was an automatic. I think you should really review a 2016 manual Tc! ( 10.0 release series in particular) There's a huge difference from the previous models. But yeah, I'd appreciate your review on that. keep up the good work!!
Hey man, I've been watching your videos for a while and had no clue you lived near Valencia pa, I could tell just by the scenery lol. Ive got a family up there. Very familiar with that area.
very similar to the 08 saturn astra. even has the reverse trigger. Think I may have found the car to replace my astra xr. wish it came in 3 door though
Matt Maran is absolutely right about the slow 2nd gear shift. I am a pro driver who drives manual cars only, and I am very annoyed by the huge jump into 2nd gear. These so called "progressive" transmissions are a bad idea. With a modern multi 6 speed transmission we don't need that stupid big gap between 1st and 2nd. GM is getting lots of these transmissions coming back with 2nd gear sychromesh torn out, because most people will not wait for that slow 2nd gear shift and just ram it, and tear it out. Too bad. All modern 6 speed manual transmissions should be close ratio all the way up, not just the top gears. I'm a pro, so I will not destroy my transmission in ten years, but many people will, because of this wide ratio into 2nd. I am tired of little old lady honking at me at lights because of my big pause into 2nd gear. Yup, you are right Matt. It is slow, for no reason! GM call me and I'd love to help you fix this.
Can you please review the 2002 Chevrolet Camaro 35th anniversary edition with the LS1. The 35th anniversary edition Camaros are extremely hard to find so a regular SS would be fine. There are really no reviews on this Camaro so you'd be one of the first. Thank You.
I own the same car with a different color. I completely agree that the rev hang on the 1-2 shift is agonizingly slow. My only other complaint is that it gets pretty noisey around 80mph. Overall though it's not bad for city driving (currently in DC formerly in the 'Burgh, go Pens!)
Luke Hoisington low fuel. 100%. He takes these cars from a Chevy dealership local to him, this is basically an extended "test drive" enabling him to make this review. Most new cars transport with hardly any fuel in them.
Have you ever noticed that the doors sit higher on cars now a day or where the window meets the door is higher. I drove a trax a huyundai santafe. A Cruz and all of them have raised doors I find it so uncomfortable to rest my arm on the window cil
Ok so I think I might be the first one to say this but I think you need to add an extra little something something to the channel. I've been watching your videos for some 3 years and I liked the press car reviews but I think it would be nice to see an older cool car review like a trans am or a camaro or something like that somthing that has character and weird quirks that make them so unique. And maybe some more vlogs? Not criticizing just ideas, but as always keep up the good work.
I appreciate the longtime support! I definitely want to start reviewing more older cars and that's in the plans for 2017 with a local dealership. I've tried vlogging a little but honestly don't live a "car lifestyle" like some other automotive vloggers. Outside of filming car reviews, driving my own car to run errands and going to a car show once every week or two when the weather is nice, I don't really do car related stuff every day. So I'm not sure how interesting regular vlogs would be sadly haha. I'm always interested in new ideas for the channel. Being a one man crew I'm pretty busy just producing a car review and weekly update each week so anything additional I'd add would have to be fairly simple to film and edit. Always feel free to suggest things, I wanna make videos you all want to watch!
One of the reasons I like this channel is that it's about the cars rather than superfluous, self serving vlogs. My suggestion that I'd love to see is more "bad" cars. A lot of RUclipsrs have a lot of success doing videos on weird cars that were never good at much anything (Doug DeMuro just had a hit today with his Yugo video). I don't think I'm alone in thinking its alot more fun to watch a bad car get thrashed around than to see mediocre cars (like the cruze) perform in such an average way.
+mfmf100 I like the Scion iM better actually. Easier and more fun to drive and nicer interior materials too. The naturally aspirated Toyota engine will probably make it more reliable too. Haven't driven the new Civic hatch so I can't compare it with that yet.
Rumor has it that RS badge provides an extra 50 horsepower.
i fucking wish
if you give it stick on fire badges from Walmart you can gain 30+ HP per sticker.
Kiliab Gonzalez YESS!!
Kiliab Gonzalez yeah next add on a ricer wing it'll get another 75hp!
RS package has always been an appearance-only thing at Chevy, going all the way back to the '67 Camaro Rally Sport which could be had with the 250 six and Powerglide.
It's also included as standard with the manual Cruze hatchback.
Chevy should make a version that competes with the Focus ST/GTI. Always nice to see competition in the market.
Spirit they been talking about a Chevy Cruze hatch or a sonic hatch to compete against the focus st
In Europe we will get it in 2018 as the Open Astra (K gen) OPC. Maybe it will come in the US with Chevy badges and the Cruze costume...? Also another question. Does the US get the diesel engines?
ikr. But at least this competes vs the regular 2.0 Focus, and it outperforms it.
The 2.0L Turbo and some aggressive suspension tuning and this would be awesome.
Nemesis I hope you not talking about the Cruze vs the focus
To everyone saying the RS needs a better engine: the RS is solely an appearance package and does nothing for performance. Even the RS Camaro can come with a 4 cylinder.
The rs sonic provided better brakes and suspension before 2016. But yeah the Cruze is just appearance
I like my cruze for the fact that the auto it constantly kicks down a gear and the low end torque is there at about 2500 rpm. It's so comfortable on long trips.
Your videos have been on point lately. Keep up the good work dude.
+David T. Thanks man!
These young folks who do these car videos should drive something like a 1983 Plymouth Turismo(which I did in my younger days) .They are so jaded.Current cars, the Cruze included, are FANTASTIC in every way compared to what people used to drive.!!
Yes, complaining about 8 sec to 60... they have no idea.
wow, the cruze has seriously come a long way now with best in class connectivity, top class size, and one of the lighter entries in this segment. not to mention both inside and out have been improved drastically from an aesthetic stand point over the previous gen.
it's STILL crap....
lol, the fact that you up voted your own comment makes this even funnier.
samlee27
...right on the head Sam..... that Douche is the GM fanqueen in chief.... LOL what an idiot that guy..... he's just a stupid troll.....
sam, your entire position is fallacious as this is not a ST/RS competitor by any means. my entire reply was simply acknowledging the extra space, reduced weight, and over all the higher number of connectivity features. now take that illiterate pseudo intellectual comment on yours and re-think it.

Love how Chevy has brought the RS as a appearance package to most of their models
DaveA441 The camaro and cruze equal most ?..
Drives like an American economy car. Just better equipped and refined these days.
I'm digging the new Cruze! You can fit 4 full size adults with the versatility of a hatch. This model all around makes sense. I just wish the hp was bumped to 170...nothing crazy, just a little more pizazz. I can live with this easily though.
Thanks for reviewing financial realistic cars every now and then!
Orange cars always go faster!
Lets hope more hatchbacks coming to the US!!
Yeah it's great to see more coming. I'm getting sick of seeing nothing but "crossovers" all the time.
Orange cars get automatically dated like Avocado Green Refrigerators or Emerald green Ford Vans.
Oh yeah. Much better just get an ugly gray car that no one will notice or ever care about.
Excell math
Glad you reviewed this! I like the styling and the orange color.Good on Chevy.
TheHvk its brown
Love your cheerful reviews. The car is pretty cool looking too.
I would love to see that 2.0 turbo in that instead of the 1.4 . Maybe make an SS trim of this car
Picking this up for my birthday on Saturday! :D upgrading from a 1995 Camaro RS
chevy should make a awd diesel. Everyone would want and it would compete with every other company all around.
I wish gm would have kept the 3800 series engines it would be awesome on that manual hatch I have a 05 impala ls and the 3800 is a beast
The Jalopnik review was right on the money. A stylish little hatchback that leaves you wanting in the driving department.
@7:47 The pattern on the dash around the push start is the Chevy logo. Nice touch.
I really like that orange color. I wish my Elantra GT, which looks EXACTLY like this Cruze hatchback, was that color. The interior of the Elantra GT is a lot nicer than this though with leather seats, navigation, and a giant panoramic moonroof.
Ezero8 its brown
+TOR PeRX Just went to the Chevy website's Cruze hatchback configurator, the color is called "Orange Burst Metallic." As someone who is weirdly obsessed with orange cars, I know it when I see it. And this does not look brown.

Was seriously considering one of these until Honda announced and released their own hatchback.

I'd love to see you review the new Civic Hatchback (preferably sport w/ manual)
I do like the big windshield for visibility.
2013 Chevy Cruze. Have the six speed manual. This is a dual-clutch system for the six speed. Clutch went bad, at first reverse was hard to engage, quick degraded so I could not get into any gear, mechanic found almost no wear on clutch plates. Dual clutch system cost $700-1000. can you look into doing a review on a 2018 chevy sonic manual hatchback?
THE BEST.
Nice reference to The Grand Tour and Jeremy's "Brown" car.
How did you get to use this car? Last time I saw it, it was partially embedded in a wall on a soundstage in Encino.
NICE Review: 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback (Manual)
I loved this car! :)
Can you review this car with the turbo diesel, granted you can find one?
Yup, you are right it is a bit slow into 2nd gear. Big mistake GM ! An RPM split of 800 to 900 RPM into second gear is unnecessary in a 6 speed. I have a 2013 manual cruze eco with a leather wrapped steering wheel, looks like they cut back for the manuals
"Definitely orange, not brown" did you get that from Clarkson on the Grand Tour lol?
needs dual exhaust on the right or get a ss with a 260hp 2.0turbo
2012 Hyundai Accents have the trigger on the shifter to go into reverse also.
Roger.u.k. a good looking hatchback but also offer a 2.0 litre turbo diesel a.w.d and a 2.0 turbo gasoline engine ?. G,m. May sell a lot more of these cars ? And do away with the stop start system s on the engines ?
Just got my 2016 Cruze manual!
I wonder if Chevy will actually offer a performance model of the Cruze. I have a Focus ST and would be curious to see what they come up with....
Have you ever checked out the new 2017 Toyota Yaris iA sedan and the Toyota Corolla iM hatchback?
Kia Fortes have the trigger for reverse. It is larger than the Cruzes, but is "chrome".
Really hope we get more hatches and wagons back in America!! Like the golf R wagon I WANT IT
great review! I just want to make a reeeeal quick suggestion. You've made a review on a Scion Tc 2012/2013 model but it was an automatic. I think you should really review a 2016 manual Tc! Is the Cruze Hatchback with manual transmission made in the US?
Cool little car, yes, would be nice for a little sportier performance model to maybe be put into a class of the fiesta st
I rented the sedan and found it to be exactly like your description of this hatchback.
Love the videos. Keep it up
That is sharp looking, love the color too.
Could you review the Diesel version ?
Chevy Cruze Diesel finally has the stick.
Love your reviews. I just got a 2016 Taurus SHO to go with my HHR SS.
So is the steering light or heavy?
You reviewing sedans now ?
09:37 He states 0-60 in about 8 sec. 155 HP. Here's a piece of history: These specs are almost equal to a 1984 Nissan 300ZX (V6) Coupe, when new!
So this the US version of the Open Astra?
still watiing for the diesel hatchback version

Best transmission for this car.
Hyundai Elantra Sport soon? ☺️
There should be a review of this thing with premium gas because it makes a good difference in this car
review a elantra sport or sentra sr turbo. and what was that ding at 9:26?
speed warning I think
Luke Hoisington probably shift warning
Luke Hoisington low fuel. 100%. He takes these cars from a Chevy dealership local to him, this is basically an extended "test drive" enabling him to make this review. Most new cars transport with hardly any fuel in them.
First commenter was right, it was the default speed warning that I forgot to turn off.
ITS BROWN!
BROOOOWN
AlletropirRetep RCR reference
SUNBURST ORANGE
Ty White it is a Grand Tour reference
TOR PeRX RCR said it first
This one will get 1.6 diesel?
Have you ever noticed that the doors sit higher on cars now a day or where the window meets the door is higher. I drove a trax a huyundai santafe. A Cruz and all of them have raised doors I find it so uncomfortable to rest my arm on the window cil
Are pedals ok for heel and toe shifting?
love the variety
I have the same car but in blue, and it will get close to 50 mpg when you drive it right.
Looks great, but really needs a 2.0L turbo...(RS package)
Also..30k is a bit much..27K sounds better
May you please review the 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport (MT)
This guy always stands so close to the car, you'd think they were newly married.
once some1 bagz one it'll look RRREAL NICE
I agree with you, but that sentence screams douchbag
This car is identical to my Kia Rio 2012 ex gdi lol but I still find myself wanting it
2016 Nissan Maxima?
They should drop the 2.0L 250 hp in it.
Can you review a Subaru Impreza or crosstrek please?

YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY REVIEW THE NEE 2017 KIA CADENZA LIMITED!!!!!!
Do you like this better than the scion/Toyota IM? How about the new civic?
+mfmf100 I like the Scion iM better actually. Easier and more fun to drive and nicer interior materials too. The naturally aspirated Toyota engine will probably make it more reliable too. Haven't driven the new Civic hatch so I can't compare it with that yet.

Can you review a subaru crosstrek buddy?
I once saw a Crosstrek keep up with an evo and smoke an eclipse GSX on the goat trail.
+Stirling Moss yeah I'd like to!
subaruwrxfan You'll be surprised by the handling!
subaruwrxfan if you are ever in Florida I'll let you review my 2015 Cadillac CTS-V
Opel has sold to PSA group. Will Chevy return to Europe and Turkey? I hope Chevrolet to return to Turkey
Could you review the new maxima
Did you ? Chirp the tires when shifting into 2nd gear ? I sure you did.. I was surprised ! hahah - NICE !!!
Needs a 2.0 with a turbo
My 2011 fusion has the same "hiccup" when shifting into second gear. It's a slight nuisance but it's not a sports car so hey what can you expect lol.
it feels like this guy cranks out a review every day, how does he do it?
Havel The Wall hard work and dedication
ever since I got my GTI I'm seeing a rise in hatches
Could you do a review on a Golf Gti?
WholeMeal Bug he has
Grrrr to bad Chevrolet isn't available anymore here in Europe...i need a follower for my Sonic/Aveo
Perfect review.
Are they making a 2017 or 2018 mustang bullitt?
Austin Allmond we dont know
