  • Flying Fish restaurant at Disney World Boardwalk Inn resort changed their menu as of June 14th. We were happy to see new vegan options and older classic seafood dishes return. Flying fish restaurant uses premium sustainable seafood and oak-grilled steaks, classifying themselves as American Disney dining. Disney eats announced three new dishes to the Flying Fish restaurant menu however, upon arrival, we learned more than what was announced was changed. It's great to see a new vegan option in addition to fish options. This boardwalk inn flying fish menu is just as good as we would expect from a signature disney dining location. The boardwalk inn flying fish restaurant dress code has relaxed since the reopen.

    Flying Fish used to be on our must do list, by the last time we were there we were pretty disappointed. It just made room for other locations.

    That pomegranate martini looks good! Many drinks with citrus/juice are shaken to help emulsify them. That said, a regular martini is traditionally stirred. When shaking a cocktail, the ice in the shaker melts and mixes with everything, often weakening the drink. For a traditional martini, you want it served cold but now watered down - hence the stirring.
    Supposedly, James Bond ordered his martinis shaken so that he could appear to be drunk when he needed to, though he was drinking watered down drinks. Of course, shaking them doesn’t actually water them down that much - it’ll just weaken the taste of the vodka/gin.

    It's definitely $$$ but one of my favorites (I am not vegan/vegetarian). I think the restaurant itself is beautiful, love the food, and think the hospitality -- particularly if you sit at the bar -- is just outstanding. It's my go-to spot for a celebration.

      @@PrincessandtheBear I usually wind-up ordering even if I go in thinking otherwise b/c they "talk me into it" (in a good, no pressure, way). I don't know exactly what it is about the bar, other than that the bartenders are amazing, but they really create a little community, and you wind up hearing about other dishes/drinks that you have to try. I've had so many great conversations at that bar and met really cool people. I've also gone on nights I didn't really feel like socializing and they vibe with that too.

    As DVC members whose home resort is Boardwalk, we eat here twice per 10+ day vacation and have always considered it worth the price tag. But Bear, with all due respect because we value your opinion (me especially as someone who tries to eat as plant-based as possible but still enjoys a good filet on occasion)... I disagree with your assessment that you can't go to Flying Fish and order a steak. Their filet mignon is, in my and my husband's opinion, the best on property. And we've eaten at Shula's, Yachtsman, and yes, even Le Cellier. Not only is the filet itself outstanding quality, the sweet onion risotto they USED to serve with it was ridiculous. I hope the changes they've made to the sides are still as good. I'm going to miss Chef Tim 😭 but happy for him on his promotion. We plan to try it again this summer and see if it's still as good...

      @@PrincessandtheBear*UPDATE: The fliet mignon is still as outstanding 👌 Risotto is the same amazing side, just with a different name. My spouse did not like some of the accoutrements in the dish which our server said was their new staff making it more "modern" (mostly the sauces and how they were incorporated) but I still highly recommend you give it a try sometime. Still our favorite overall filet dish on property along with Shula's.

    Definitely too high of a price for a tofu dish. If comparing this place to other signature dining, Citricos comes out on top for sure. I actually miss the old Flying Fish from back when they first opened. It had a warmer whimsical vibe to it, and the food was much better priced and better portions when compared to other dining venues in the same category. I was vegetarian at the time, and I remember they had the best potato bread and au gratin scalloped potatoes. After the renovation, I stopped in to see the new restaurant and menu and was really disappointed by everything. So, I haven’t been back since, and after seeing these menu items and prices, I have no reason to come back. I’d rather spend my money at Citricos for signature dining.

  • @ipdvb4853
    @ipdvb4853 Год назад +2

    Holy crap those prices. The chicken entrée is actually cheaper than the vegan one lol. That is a skip for me but I'm very happy to see and hear about the options. Very well balanced review and I appreciate you bringing up the price situation for the vegans. I think some places manage to get it right. Cítricos, Le Cellier, Jaleo, Takumi,... No problem spending my money there. Like, at Cítricos you'd get the crowd favorite arancini with truffle aioli and champagne vinaigrette appetizer for the same price as these tomatoes with balsamic on them lol (correction: the arancini is actually a dollar cheaper!).

    • @PrincessandtheBear
      @PrincessandtheBear  Год назад +1

      You make some excitement points, though the tomato dish seems slightly larger than the aranchini, it's all tiny and overpriced for what you get.

      @@PrincessandtheBear True but just ingredient wise, i don't see how tomatoes and balsamic can be more expensive than fried mushroom risotto with truffle and champagne vinegar in the toppings...
