One question, why UCA's with an OEM ball joint? One thing to mention is, OEM joints = OEM like performance Camburg, Total Chaos, and many others use a uniball in their UCA's for a reason, and thus why the price is always higher. Otherwise, great vid! Would love to see you make a UCA uniball comparison, particularly a 1st gen Tacoma UCA!

In another video you should explain as to why regearging doesn’t change MPGs in any significant amount. People keep repeating these myths without any understanding of the engineering behind it
The result depends on the overall combination of engine power, transmission gear ratios, diff gear ratio, and tire size. Changing the diff gearing can make a significant impact on MPG and drivability.
as an Engineer, I can tell you regearing absolutely effects MPG. Consider sitting in overdrive, at 70MPH. One gearing compared another, might result in 200rpm less, keeping the vehicle in a better torque zone at lower engine speeds. Thus, using less fuel. If you think gearing doesn't make a difference, next time don't shift to 6th gear, sit in 5th and rev it higher and see what that does to your MPG. Often when increasing tyre size, the overdrive gear is no longer achievable without excessive throttle and fuel input. Regearing will shift the rpm and torque to the correct ratio, allowing overdrive to be available at a low throttle input at highway speeds.
Unless this is a troll post, it's possible that they are referring to regearing FOR taller tires (only). If you're matching lower gears with taller tires they can cancel each other out. Obviously, my post isn't aimed at regearing for specific offroad needs like rock crawling where you have larger tires and you're gearing down past that to also have a better crawl ratio. If you're mall crawling with larger tires, you're just gearing down to get back to a stock final drive ratio with similar mpg, so long as you didn't put mud terrains on. ;)
So what is your view on Ironman’s UCA now they had a recall for ball joint /cracking failures and now replacing with a mismatch of various ball joints?
Excellent video as always! Any info on extended sway bar links? Do I really need them, if so how much longer than stock? Do you get any benefit from buying those super thick and beefy ones over something of a stock thickness?
I hate my SPC uca's. In 18mos I've replaced the ball joints and the x-axis bushings. And the x-axis bushings are already bad again. I can grab my control arm and push/pull with a loud clunk. 250$ for Spc's upper ball joints and another 250$ for their x-axis bushings. I've got over 1250$ into these control arms and they have a ton of play and ride like shit. They've been nothing but a money pit and a headache.
Yeah man same here idk how they’re legally selling these things - mine were under warranty at a shop and replaced for free so here’s hoping they last this time
Ive been a long term fan of the KO tyres and I have now just purchased the new KO3 in 275/70R18 (33.2" dia) for my Prado 150 (Kakadu with KDSS) in Melbourne, Australia. I have cut back plastic mud flaps on both front and rear but noticed that there is still significant rubbing on the inside of the tyres against the UCA's, especially on the right side, when turning full lock. Camber is 0'13" L/0'33"R and caster is 2'42" L/2'29". I am curious to hear your views on the best solution but I suspect it is a new set of UCA's. In fact, one place didn’t want to sell them to me For that reason. It appears that likely the Iron Man control arm would be best but what is your opinion? Any help would be really appreciated!!!
Have you looked into the marlin crawler RCLT-HD arms? Big Mike is able to run either 37s or 40s without spacers or a body mount chop and has a CTI score of 820!
It's a pretty impressive design. He did had to refab the front of the wheel well (under where the battery is mounted), which is probably more difficult to do. My dirtking long travel pushes the tire forward 1/2", I'm running 315/70R17. I'm already rubbing the front of the wheel well near full compression and steering. So I don't think "no need for BMC" means "less work" as many thought. Nevertheless, this kit has many unique benefits.
The correct answer is ball joint. If you are considering a uniball, save time, money and a lot of work and just get a Jeep. I've had Jeeps but currently drive a 4Runner. Jeeps are the ultimate crawlers but suck everywhere else.

If you're mall crawling with larger tires, you're just gearing down to get back to a stock final drive ratio with similar mpg, so long as you didn't put mud terrains on. ;)
Thank you! Very informative. Which shock would you recommend for a 2 inch lift? Primarily for ride quality on the bumps
Great content. Please consider expanding into other makes for channel growth like Ford Raptor.
I heard Accutune has UCAs now but cannot find them anywhere online
Has not been released quite yet. Coming soon!
awesome, thank you for the video
Excellent info!
another great video!
Please make a video on the marlin crawler long travel kit.
Yeah man same here idk how they’re legally selling these things - mine were under warranty at a shop and replaced for free so here’s hoping they last this time
Great video and this channel is awesome it’s basically like a tacomaworld forum Tedtalk😂🤙
Which one would you recommend, based on the latest you have seen.
I think Ironman will be my next
Hey great videos. What UCA would you recomend for a 3 inch lifted tacoma? Any other recomendations?
How can I get one of the hats your wearing?
Thank you for the interest! I'm setting up my website and will be selling some merch soon! Stay tuned
Hey you should review Jdf fabrication uca’s they use oem Toyota inner pivot bushings and come with sealed Greasable uniballs for the best of bolth worlds.
Thank you for excellant educational video's. Could you discuss 1st gen tundra ifs ? And you opinion on best non- long travel hard ware options currently available? Lots of confusion on forums. Looking at ifs set up. Only 1" additional droop looks attainable due to design. Do you agree?
What about the Icon UCA?
I have a 2018 4runner TRD off road. I’ve got a Bilstein 5100 shocks already installed and Dobinson springs that are going to be installed next month.
I’m located in Canada, where salt and stuff affects the car. I want to get the best UCA for my set up and my environment. I’ve been hearing a lot of failures lately with the SPC control arms.
If you actually use your truck for off-roading, don't go with SPC. The frame pivot bushing don't hold up well if you off road a lot. Trust me
I’ve always heard good things about SPC and was just about to buy some 🤦🏻♂️
They’re death traps
I’ve also had premature ball joint wear (like 5k mi), and I’ve had the camber slip twice (with correct torque)
damn my total chaos.... damnnnnn
The correct answer is ball joint. If you are considering a uniball, save time, money and a lot of work and just get a Jeep. I've had Jeeps but currently drive a 4Runner. Jeeps are the ultimate crawlers but suck everywhere else.
What do we think about the JBA Offroad UCAs?
I have them on my 3rd Gen 4Runner. No complaints here.
What about JBA uca's? I have a 3 inch Eibach stage 1 kit on my 14 Tacoma.
Hi, this is Rock Rooster Footwear. We sent you an email just now. Looking forward to your reply. Thank you!
why wasn't dobinson mentioned? uses factory Bjs literally rock solid
My SPC's "x-axis" bushing failed after a year and 10k miles of city/highway. Looking for alternatives since no alignment shop even has a clue how to use these.
Yes, from many comments it seams the x-axis bushings are not reliable. Looks go in theory but probably poor implementation.
@@TinkerersAdventure I ordered the Ironmans yesterday. Really hoping for a better outcome.
My Spc x-axis bushings are failing with less than 20k, mostly highway miles. Just begun the warranty process so hopefully they will replace them.
I have heard quite a few complaints about this in my comments now. It seems SPC didn’t implement well in practice.
I just need to know what it takes to put 33s on my stock 2015 Crew Cab Off Road Tacoma. need a spreadsheet
What about JBA UCA's?

Have you noticed higher running coolant temperatures with the LP9s in front of your radiator grill?
😮I'm interested in billet upper control arms for my Tacoma but can't find any info on how to perform an alignment with them only install videos
I love your videos. Do you ever come down south to wheel? Would love to ride with you and pick your brain about my LX470 suspension
I’ve been to Windrock and Uwharrie Forrest a couple times! Great trails. See you on the trail some day
