Truth. I’m currently a student at a large university with a heavy party culture. I don’t drink or smoke. It shocks people, but they respect it immensely. Don’t fear people thinking you’re lame because of it. It’s almost always the opposite. Stand 10 toes down on your lifestyle and don’t change it up for anyone.
THIS! Same here! They may try to test it every so often by offering you the smoke or the drink just to see if you're really about that life. But more times than not people really do respect you for not drinking and smoking, even met some people that drink/smoke encouraging me not to join that lifestyle. So stick to your guns. If they hate you for it, they're the wrong crowd. If you're forced to tolerate them stand your ground and see it as a test of your character, for there is nothing "manlier" than overcoming adversity. See it as adversity.

In the beginning the guy would make it seem like hes trying to turn over a new leaf after discovering I'm clean, but then later I find out the guy still drinks/smokes or does drugs. Or he playfully says that I should try a drink. In a nutshell, I'm no longer settling for a partner who's habits don't align with mine. What a message. At 52 I have never smoked or had a drink in my life. I made this decision as a 8 year old, I have had people question my choice but most respect it . I have never wanted to be in a mental space of not knowing what I'm doing, so I always tell people if you see me dancing on top of a table , its because I wanted to...can't blame it on the alcohol.

I study in a foreign country where all my friends drinks and smoke. As a nonalcoholic, when I sometimes attend to their party, I feel like I am an alien. Even though, I am a very friendly person and want to know others, this value isolates me from most of the people to be a good friend, but I am really proud of who I am and will continue to conserve my true values.

Great video. The message in the video is very important because a lot of young males/men do things to get female attention even if that means jeopardizing their lives in order to achieve that. Personally, I am not a smoker or drinker and I am usually an oddball in most social settings. And females in general find it to be disappointing when they discover I do not smoke nor drink. But it doesn't matter to me because those activities are not for me and I refuse to pretend to be something I'm not for social acceptance. Plus, as a black man in this world, I have to stay focused and on point against any and every possible threat against me. Being high and/or drunk put me at a disadvantage in this regard.
It's ok to drink as long as you don't let it control you. In the bible, followers of the most high drank and celebrated/praised on the Sabbath all of the time and they still do. Over 13 years of quiting marijuana and cigarettes and 6 years of drinking occasionally. These drinking occassions is a way of me celebrating achieving my long term goals. Gave up all the smoking just for boxing and to be healthy as possible.

Have never smoked in my life and I had my first sip of alcohol at 29 and hated it. I only drink red wine maybe once or twice a year and that's it. Props to another brotha that doesn't partake in that stuff. Has no major benefits in life IMO.

Drinking/smoking by itself doesn't mean you're covering up problems. The problem comes when you use these vices TO cover up your problems. To those who do, recognize if that is the case with you. Chances are if you can't make the choice to go a day or to an outing without drinking or smoking, then you are using these vices as a patch. Drinking and smoking has never been good for your health in any amount (Google it). If you choose to do so, accept this fact and partake in moderation. You control the vice, don't let the vice control you. Stay up fellas
