I wish we had bells for fire alarms at my elementary school. They had Gentex Commander 3s that were very loud and they scared the shit out of me. The first fire drill I was in I was unaware that it was gonna happen and it traumatized me. I was scared of fire alarms until I was 15.
they have bells and new alarms. They look and sound like the WTC alarms. The bells are in the basement and the other ones in the main floor. Mostly bells because the basement has most of the places
3:23 My elementary school had 2 bells within 20 feet of each other near the main office (put there because of fire doors I think), and you could literally feel them in the office. Perhaps they installed lots so deaf students could literally feel the fire alarm. Just a thought
Quick tip: at 1:09 I see you put the magnet against the part that just out by the LED. Instead of their put your magnet right beside it against the plastic and the roof. That sets it off instantaneously instead of a few seconds.
Wow a multi-story school from the early 90s without sprinklers? Nuts. They've been mandatory in all Michigan schools since 1984 and many from the 70s even have them. The bells are interesting too, I'm guessing this is Canada?
I think they only started to become rerqired in the late 90's here which seems way to late as it likely would have saved some of our other schools that had other had significant fire damage or completely burnt down
@@nics-systems-electric Yeah, they saved my high school in 2002 (built in 1981). I agree that this elementary school is in great shape for its age, I think I saw either 1993 or 1995 as the drawing date on an evacuation diagram near a pull station. It seems to be remarkably original too, all of the colors even look original. There were so many '90s schools built in Michigan and they all smell the same. I spent a couple of summers inspecting, 2001-2002, it was fun. Came very close to setting off a pre-action deluge system in a gym in a 1-year-old middle school that had "A" and "B" smokes right next to each other you had to do all of the As and then Bs, if an A and B were both set off within X minutes it would go right into deluge with open heads. The installers didn't mark them A or B and we hadn't come across that before. It triggered but fortunately our panel jockey was attentive and quick with the abort. We were required to test with canned smoke so we had to get creative with the high ones sometimes if we didn't have a lift (and those were ALWAYS the ones that went bad). One old timer used to light a cigarette and blow into a long pipe.
Fire alarm cables have been an delay with all the fire alarms and thats why the fire alarm panel with all cables does make an 1 too 3 second is a delay
In the United States of America The majority of schools use horn strobes for the fire alarm and EST Edwards singling technology integrity horn strobes are installed inside a lot of the schools in the United States including mine. But up in Canada you guys use bells for fire alarms here in the United States of America we use horn strobes for our fire alarms in the majority of schools.
I've got a question, how come (at least from what I've seen in your videos) most schools in Canada have bells rather than a horn strobe? Im kind of confused because in America, most of the schools have horn strobes and sometimes bells.
When I was in School we had single stroke bells at my first elementary school and middle school vibratone horns at my 2nd elementary school and after renovation my high school had est integrity horn strobes
I'll tell you what kind of smoke detectors those are - they're the kind you better make sure you vent all of your test smoke out of so they don't trip again three hours later LOL...happened to me too many times. Those things are brutal - very smart to use the magnet to test. Great video!
Exactly! Est has a reputation for false alarms and over sensitive/faulty appliances. My middle school i used to go to has a newer est 3 system that just loves to trip on a monthly bases when the janitors clean their equipment. The genesis is prob the only thing they actually got right. Oh and another tip: NEVER EVER combine a 270spo with a sti stopper cover, it will be a pain in ur ass to test and reset.
Not a big fan of edwards appliances except for the a/v stuff. Est just isn’t very well made or thought out, like the 270spo. The tamper proof screw on some models combined with a protection/deterrent cover can be a pain in the rear to reset or test. I know that from experience.

The fire alarm control panel
These bells create great music
Love the intergrity strobes
Safe to say that in a real fire, students would immediately know to evacuate to the closest exit which is why there are so many exit signs and routes.
