- Tubes installed, caps installed, wire installed, and subs installed so ya know I had to wire an amp up real quick & get it to make some noise. Wouldn't have been able to sleep til I did. In this video you're gonna get to see and hear ProjectSPL turn on and play for the first time. Make sure to like & subscribe. TermLab testing coming soon on the next episode.

Watching on a smartphone which doesn't care to play frequencies below 160Hz... I couldn't hear it! And when you spoke I couldn't hear you! That tone masked all sounds and effectively muted you! LOL! I believe in Project SPL! Great work! Stay motivated.
Derek..all i got to say is i hope everyone is bringing there a game to these shows this year..cause i feel you just built a beast..i bet you almost cryed when youherd that first note..a long awaited road..been watching every episode..cant wait to see it fully complete..congrats bro.
Lol your face on those dustcaps is truly humorous... so fucking funny!!!!!
Awesome work bro glad to finally see the happyface this shit is gonna rock once u get ur ported wall built an all 4 amps in it an a quarter ohm is ridiculous if that is rite that is beastly I'm anxious to see this completed great work so far brother
I salute to you Derrick! Great SPL working on the go. An annihilating Low Frequency sound coming. I'm sure it's gonna be a SUB ANNIHILLATION literally.
LMFAO you got me with this is my happy face. 😁. Dude..... I can't wait to see the end result.. I wish I had even half of your knowledge and ideas! Totally still Loving this build! You the man, do I see a new SPL world record in the making?! Hell yeah
Dude I enjoy the shit out of this series! Great job on the build man! Hope to see you in the lanes
Thanks
Nice 👍🏼 all that hard work is starting to paying off .....Bass!
Been running a u 12 4th order box for a couple months you would be surprised at what a u series does good stuff keep vids coming
Great work, very inspiring, anything is possible, I'll be posted waiting to see this thing in the lanes, going to get STUPID loud, 😎🤜🤛😎
Bro your face on the subs is hilarious!
This stuff never gets old 🤙
Goooood damn!!! People are sleeping on the U Series!! Sounds great brother!
Running the wire through that pipe is genius
Quick tip on running wire use (ideal) brand wire lube helps greatly.
So does Sprayway Window cleaner and it leaves no residue to clean up.
I can tell by the smile on your face when you stuck your head in the Box that you know it is going to be loud :)
What is the significance of the tubes inside the box? Idk why but I really like it. Obviously, I'm not an aficionado. I used to make bass tubes for speakers of all sizes as a kid but I've never seen a build like this before. I really wanna know how much it helps. I'm currently in design mode for my 2 door Blazer, looking for ideas. My benchmark is The Alphard Blazer.
I'm baffled by this entire build myself. I've always been a simple system guy, since I lease my vehicles. But I watch a lot of these build outs, and this is the first one I've seen like this. I mean the subs look sub par (except for the face on them), compared to what I was expecting since, you know... Sundown. 4 unported enclosures, mounted in a massive box? Resonating chamber? I feel like I'm having Higgs-Boson episode or something.
Can't wait for the end result. Thanks for the great tips also🔥👍
Making me want to get 2nd amp and strap em. Won't be nothing on this but should break 50 at 28hz on 2 15s in a bravada
Love what your doing I just got my first sundown speakers off a buddy I've always wanted some for years it's a pair of sa 15s there in the back seat of my truck and there loud I love them how can I tell what rev they are
I've heard of "bass in your face" but this is the first seeing it the other way around. nice mug shot!
Man awesome hope I get a chance to hear it that thing is going to bang 🎶🔊on 🔥👍
Yes and Sir. Its getting real
Wow been waiting for a while to hear it!!! Cooool can’t wait to see it finished 👌
Well done bru! She's alive!!! Xx
Awesome Derrick! Almost there man. It completely drowned your voice out when the bass was playing! Hard to tell what it's doing with one amp. What do you think it's doing SPL wise with one amp? Thanks for the tip on using pipe. I think I will definitely use that tip on our massive demo build. Will definitely come in handy. Tuned in for the next update!
man it's really going to pound when the loading wall is in keep it up Derrick looking good.😎
Moving right along
Bro I am not really into audio like this I have a single 8" in my car but hats off to you for this series I've watched this whole series love it 😍 I need to pick up an sa8 for my car and a 1.5k amp for it
Hell yea bro! Been waiting for this!
Great vid, and look at that lil happyface 😂😎👌
That's my happy face to congrats derek u worked for it bud
Been watching this. Some great ideas here. Especially because I have an 03 2 door blazer that's gonna meet the same fate. Just stashing equipment right now.
Dang made quick work of that man!
Welldone Derick what an awesome build and video.
I have a question what did you use to mount the tubes to the rear of the sub box wall?
#10 4" long decking screws
love the dust cap pics
I like the video layout.
Shouldve thought of that when i did my box smh that tube trick is a new one
that sub box is good for bove 100HZ lol
Question, why not use like " 1/4" all thread rods" with nuts on both ends tru the wood for the speaker connections?.
Cause it has a lot of resistance and isn't as good as a solid wire through the wall
your demo just blew my passenger side door speaker 😂🤣😂
haha lol
Hey them 7500 is a beast. My crecendo will do .5 but it dont like it at all.
God please don't take this wrong but you said to not skimp and to make sure all connections are perfect so this is what I would do. This would add maybe $40 to the build.
I would use wire ferrules and marine grade heat shrink to hold the ferrules in place. This makes sure all strands are being used and making the same contact patch.
Then, nut inserts for mounting the subs. Pre drill and insert the nut insert. Then you can remove the sub 100 times without damaging the wood. They make deep ones if you're worried about anything. Plus machine screws can be used. They have more threads and are stronger.
These 2 things will make life easier if you have to replace a sub.
You can take a sub out. Put the screws back in without stripping out the wood. And then you can just pull the wire ferrule out and push it right in the new sub terminal....not having to worry about twisting the wire or strands sticking out.
Chances are you WILL blow a sub.
Just wanted to suggest. Love this build bro!
You're old school and I love it!
Those are horrible ideas and wouldn't work well in this build. The fact you even mentioned them tells me you can't have much experience with those products. I like wire ferrules and use them for some things but they would suck for this. Same with the inserts.
@@UnofficialAudio and I figured it would be negative but I didn't honestly think it would start out with the words horrible ideas and then and then going to make me feel like a complete idiot when obviously I spent a lot of time thinking about how to phrase this in a way that I didn't seem like I was trying to correct you or be condescending. You literally sounded like what everyone hates to get in the comment section. I guess even if it was not the best idea I would never talk to someone like that that had tried to help but then again I would have been more thoughtful especially being the representative of a product line.
I run Sundown products in several of my builds and enclosures right now and have recommended them numerous times but not anymore if this is how genuine suggestions and help are met from the company itself.
I could not imagine Rockford Fosgate or Alpine or even another small company would have responded this way especially when my first words were already on the defensive by stating God please don't take this the wrong way. I was hoping my instincts would be wrong. How in the world could what I have suggested been horrible?
Maybe I just have a ways to go before I know everything. Sorry that I took away from your valuable time to have to read it...
@@UnofficialAudio The procesess I described are literally used by so many installers everyday. I guess I could understand if one didn't have the time or care to do these simple things. You're going to tell me that other SPL competition vehicles use wood screws, sorry decking screws, and bare wire has the best process for installing subwoofers in an SPL based system?
I mean I even liked and subscribed to this build. Not in a million years that I think you would talk to anyone like this.
Why sealed vs ported? Looks great, keep up the great work. Much appreciated.
It's a 4th order bro it's a sealed box inside a ported box it's made to handle sharp higher frequencies on the sealed and the ported to smash the lows
Same thing happened to me I watch the video because I will not be able to sleep lol I thought you will meter it😊 👍✌👋👊
Sweet bass action brother sounds great 🔈🔉🔊🇺🇸#Merica
U are the man!!
Sounded like when you touch a guitar cable to your tongue 😂. Great work man!
love the build .. im gonna be starting my rebuild with 4 zv3 15s .. Mite do a 4th order bandpass this time But never had one before and don't wanna be disappointed. What are your thoughts over ported wall and bandpass 4th order .. Did you ever switch from one to the other with the same equipment And if so what was the difference.
That enclosure style is the same as the old mtx van used. I noticed it In kyles (clippos) video of the mtx van resurrection so you should get pretty damn loud.
16:26 is just halarious to me!
Awsome bro
Please tell me those weren’t drywall screws you mounted the subs with.
I actually explain in the video in detail what kind of screws I like to use
What’s the sealed displacement for the tubes per sub?
SWEET BROTHER
How would a enclosure like this, once finished, actually sound with regular music?
Tiny if: You could have used a counter sink bit on each end of the speaker wire pipes pass through's, that way the speaker wire wouldn't be rubbing a 90' knife edge ;)
I'm loving the progress Derrick however I got question. How many screws did you use in one cube to hold it to the wall firmly?
Four big #10 deck screws are holding each tube
unofficial Thanks for replying 💪
Hey Deric, couple of questions. Back in the days we used to have stereos that had lows you could hear for blocks, now not so much. My question is, did the speaker designs/specs change? I remember in the 90s boxes needed to be made huge 2 cu.ft. or more for some of the more powerful speakers of the days. Now boxes are small as hell. My question was spurred by the size tubes you used to mount the subs in your bandpass box. I'm enjoying watching the build of project spl! Oh my first projection helped build (because I was in woodshop and had the tools to do the work) was stuffing 4-12 inch atomic subwoofers (long since gone) in a yugo for a stereo competition in 1991. He didnt win but he broke the windshield. Lol. So that's why I wonder how so many boxes are built small. I remember spec sheets saying how big the box should be. Does that happen anymore. Have not bot subs in about 10 years. Would love to get a set of SA subs one day.keep up the cool videos sorry if this was all over the place.
I noticed the same thing back in the 90's, bass could be heard blocks away with only a few subs. I bought a 2,000 watt rms sub recently and can only hear it in the car, sound doesn't carry much past the vehicle.
Hmmm, still using a headunit. I thought a digital media player of some sort (wired or wireless) would be the norm now
I still use the official dB Drag compact disc to compete with
Rip it
Damn😁😁👍👍
Are you taking this to slamology this year?
Yes it will be there
Dope
Lol "this is my happy face"
Oh hell yeah!!!
Damn I just got hype as fuck. We got sound. ...... can u hear me now
During your time lapse when did u put in ur pipe bushings for the speaker wire ???
I seen you drill holes then you put wire thru ??
in between drilling and running speaker wire
Ok that part was either so short I missed it or not in time lapse
I wasn't sure if the ones learning needed to see u actually doing it or hopefully they smart enough not to need to
Bassheads unite 1988-2019 and beyond!!!!
Great job tho bro 👊
With those tubes, is there any advantages besides displacements?
Even loading pressure, ease of adjustability, strength, can continue to play without issue even after losing a subs or subs
@@UnofficialAudio I figured it was something like that. Looking good Derrick
I have 2 sa-10 I want to upgrade to the u series 10 inch. Can I just swapped them and use the same encloser that I'm using for the sa10. I know the u series are longer in depth.
Thank you
Yes those subs use the same recommended enclosures and are a direct swap
Thank you for the fast reply. Keep up the good work
Did you really put your mug on those dust caps LMFAO!!! keep it that way.
Dave & Mike did that as a joke back in the build room when my subs were getting built
@@UnofficialAudio you need to take that shit and run with it lol.
How many speaker rings did u use for easch 18?
Man I gotta say it u r building a 💥💥. 4 7500's & 4 U 18's just to start. Incredible build from ground 🖕. Alot of 👨👩👦 😄 but they ain't 😯.
Why are they put in that little tiny tube theres very little cubes right?
When and where is it 1st competition going to be at.
First one this build will be at is the Team High Voltage show in Newport, TN on April 6th
O hell yess 💪💪
Boom
Love how you don't hear how loud it is, until you talk and the mic is so overloaded that we can't hear you
Would 5 subs have fit? It would look sweet with another in the center and strengthen it
Can't run 5 18"s in this class. I'm limited to 4 subs. I can fit 6 15"s in there though.
@@UnofficialAudio I keep forgetting that.. all this work for a $75 trophy, man!
It ain't about the trophies. Its about my pride in accomplishing something.
@@UnofficialAudio how many 12s could u fit?
what amp are you using??
Wut style box is that called?
4th order bandpass
What type of airspace we talkin in that sealed side?
I wanna say I recall 1.7 or 1.8 cube per sub somebody correct me
Don't know. Haven't calculated any volumes or ratios. This build is all designed off of dimensions and measurements.
unofficial volume of a 18in cylinder and wanna say in the building tube video they were 21in long, that Comes out to just over 3ft or if they 18in long 2.6ft so way bigger than I previously thought. I'm curious to see the loading wall and port tuning come into play. Love the videos and content. Makes me wanna do a 4th order
Do you work at sundown audio?
Yes that's where this build is taking place
shit got built fast. I have to agree im not a fan of direct leads.
Let’s hear it on music next
So I have 2 scv 6ks can I strap them and do a quarter ohm each to burp my plan is gain match .5 ohm each the subs r 4 zv5 12s dual 2s
I do not like strapping amps
Sundown Audio unofficial so should I gain match at .5 per 2 subs
8 gauge? Why so thick? I thought we established that the speaker wire size made no difference.
In ijwb group? Ik there was a huge discussion about it earlier lol
Elaborate Chavy. Why would speaker wire size make no difference?
LOL!
I'd like to get up to about 20kw per sub. At 1ohm that's about 140ish amps of current. Do the math and let me know what size wire is recommended for that amount of current.
@@UnofficialAudio 20kw? Damn thats alot cant wait to see this beast in the lanes
Damn I was hoping to hear something music
What type of enclosure is that
4th order bandpass
....
I should've put pants on before I watched that.
Why wouldn't u just remove the tail gate latch bolts from the truck first?
Cause I didn't need to
No speaker wires were harmed in the making of this video
pls derrick change that dustcaps :D
surprised you arent going inverted being its a 4th for better cooling
Inverted is worse for spl and I don't need better cooling for a burp setup
They zv5 18s?
U-18"s
How heavy is a u15? Or 18?
bout 50 pounds
Fiberglass fish rods, way easier to pull through, then push through.
Scv 7500 don't give a shit lol.
Damn i missed it again GD RUclips 😭
Lol your happyface..
