    I totally agree. If you can’t follow this guy you need to close up your tool box. I just installed the P3 today and it worked exactly like the demonstration. The toughest part was cutting through the rubber grommet but I got it. It made paying too much for the parts easier to swallow

    Great video. Even though there was no indication from looking at the dash, the Ford connection was exactly as described. The 2 connectors snapped the Ford loom and their controller together. My 2018 F-150 XLT double cab, short bed had the lack of fuse that is described. I ran the 10 gauge wire from the battery to the brake controller using their kit. Be sure and cut the firewall gasket as he describes. Again, great instructions - no problem hooking up!
    [I broke one of the bottom nuts [it clips to the body with a cage] where you swing down the panel. The nut has sticky thread compound and it was near freezing. NAPA had a substitute part in stock. ]

    I ordered the part number you listed and the wire was a 10 gauge that came in the kit

    Your wiring kit, which I'm installing in my 2018 F150, has a black and a white wire. The black wire, as shown in your video, goes from the battery, thru the supplied breaker, to the power wire of the trailer brake harness. Does the white wire go directly from the negative (-) battery terminal to the white (ground) wire in the trailer brake harness?

      You can ground to the battery, if you look at the graphic diagram on this page www.etrailer.com/faq-installation-of-brake-controller-from-scratch.aspx you can see.

    I wasn’t able to pull the bottom bolts out from the dash. I don’t know what you call them, but the brackets or clips glued to the plastic so that the bolts can do their job came apart. There was no way for me to pull them out. I was able to complete the installation, but now I have two loose bottom bolts.

    What am I missing is there another video explaining how to connect from the female (that doesn't come with the truck) trailer plug in to the controller itself that you just installed..

      Sorry, that's our goof. The black 4 wire connector will plug directly into the back of the brake controller.

    Do you still need to program the vehicle with an aftermarket controller?

      Robert Richardson ford is notorious for screwing over the consumer and making everything a headache and an ordeal. My Silverado had a plug right under the pedal and any type of brake controller would work. They went out of their way to make this difficult.

    My fuse box is not wired for the 30amp fuse. How can I order the kit to run power from my batter through the grommet as shown in the video?

    Does Ford make a fuse box that has the terminals already installed?

    • @mortier9
      @mortier9 2 года назад

      Yes. You must replace the entire box, however.

    Does this have to be forskaned into the truck or is it plug and play?

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  5 лет назад

      It all depends on if your 2018 Ford F-150 has the factory 4-Flat or factory 7-Way connector. If you check out the link below you can see what you'll need for either situation.

    A harness that works correctly would make this unit plug and play without all the need to be a shade tree service tech.

      The plug and play harness makes this installation very quick and painless.

    I will have to run the optional wire to get 12v from the battery to the controller. Will this draw power from the battery even when the truck is off?

    • @etrailer
      @etrailer  2 года назад +2

      This brake controller will not have a draw on the battery when the vehicle is off. Most brake controllers will have a sleep mode that will start about 15 minutes after the vehicle has been shut off.

    Everything that has to do with anything with ford is ALWAYS an ordeal, it’s absolutely ridiculous, my Silverado had a plug by the pedals and boom every type of brake controller worked without playing any games. Wish I stuck with a user friendly truck where you dont have to hack everything apart everytime you want to do anything.
