After looking into Emerald Guitars for several years (and other carbon fiber guitars), I purchased a "plain Jane" X20 a month ago. I am 75 years young and own 10 good (if not great) wood acoustic guitars. Two Martins made in Nazareth, PA. Two Taylors, two Takamines, two Larrivees, a Guild and a Gretch. I live in SW New Mexico where it is dry. I spend a lot of time keeping my guitars at 45-55% humidity level in their cases. So, I think I will keep my Martin HD28, my Larrivee L03R, my 12 fret Taylor and sell the rest. The X20 absolutely exceeds my expectations. It has not been back in its case since I received it a month ago. Gets played every day. It is everything the Emerald company says it is. And that's the truth too! TT
I have a X20 Emerald as of maybe 5 years. The main reason for buying it was I need a durable travel guitar that can perform and handle weather changes outdoors mainly. I have a cabin porch I love to sit on an play for the birds and trees and whatever weather conditioms might change hastily. It feels good ergonomically and plays easily. The sound hole is awkward to begin with but is just as quickly forgotten and natural after a week. Quality build is superb. Hooked up to an amplifier sounds great, and actually very easy to change the 9v battery. Carbon or wood isn’t really an either or for me. It’s more a question of ”conditions” and what you need/prefer. It’s a great guitar that won’t disappoint. I’m fortunate to own several guitars, and on a regular day I’ll play maybe 3-4 of them. 😊
Emerald should be paying you for this video. The recording is one of the best I've heard even though there are dozens of demos out there. Stunning instrument but really shines because it is in your hands Marco.
I bought an X20, loved it so much I now have an X7 with Hivybe and a Virtuo… These guitars are so easy to play, sound amazing (even with my playing) The sustain is to die for. They reward you more, so you play more. Also the tuning is just so stable, once your strings settle you hardly ever bother tuning. Also with Carbon fibre, you can leave your guitars out and ready to go. The only caution would be the extreme heat of direct sunlight should your guitar go above the moulding temperature of Carbon Fibre…
That's quite a beautiful X20. I've got one with a HyVibe unit, as well as a Virtuo. Not only do Emeralds have incredible tuning stability, but IMHO, the X20 is the most comfortable "standard" guitar I've ever played. Very light, that ergonomic "lap aligned" leg notch, the sculpted curves, bevels & rounded edges... just a real pleasure to pick up & play.
I have an X7, and absolutely love it. I play a lot of outdoor festivals, and found I worried about my wooden guitars a great deal. I wanted a solid carbon fiber guitar I could take and play anywhere. While the X7 is small (so am I, so it fits), it still has a fantastic sound. I couldn't be happier. Thank you for your thorough review!
Have an Emerald X20 and and X7. Still young in the guitar learning spectrum.... but I can say I'm a huge fan. Their quality and sound is amazing. I live in Arizona, so the stability in extreme heat and dry climates makes it worry free. As a student who is struggling to figure stuff out, the amazing contours make these guitars so comfortable to practice without edges digging into your arm or leg... allowing for hours of practice without discomfort!
Nice. I have an Emerald, similar to this one - love it! One reason I bought it (sight unseen) is because they are virtually indestructible. Last year I flew in a Cirrus 4 seater plane made of the same material. I figure that if it's strong enough for plane wings, the airlines are probably not going to be able to crack the neck, like they did to my Taylor. So the Emerald is my preferred travel guitar. And yes, it stays in tune rock solid.
Hallo Marco! I discovered your channel yesterday and I'm just listening to your beautiful music and playing on Spotify. This is the best thing I've been listening to since a long time. Your presentations of new guitars are awesome. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas with us. I'm a new fan! Keep up the good work my friend and God bless.
I love both the tone first and the beautiful finishes you can choose. Specially some of the exotic wood finishes. Ahh, I'm a senior now and unfortunately it will just have to be a dream, my pension just won't allow it for me. But what a dream .
I own an X20 steel string and an X20 nylon string. What i like about these guitars is notes are very clean and the guitars don't produce unwanted ringing overtones. Both of mine have the L. R. Baggs Element pickup in them and when plugged in its where they really shine. Crisp & clean.
I’m glad you said that you have a nylon string carbon fibre guitar. I already own an Emerald steel string guitar. I wanted to get a nylon string as well but was a little hesitant until I read your comment. I’m still thinking about it. Going to Ireland in the next year or so and plan on visiting Emerald Guitars. That’ll give me a chance to try it out before I actually place an order.
@@Guitarpassion68 Unplugged the nylon string is not very loud but as you probably discovered with your steel string the brand of strings you choose can make a big difference. On my steel string Elixir strings sound the best , really good highs that with great sustain. On the nylon i use D'addario titanium core high tension nylon strings . Hear for youself when you visit Emerald. I wasn't impressed with the strings they used on the guitar when i got it but like the D'addario strings better.
@@Guitarpassion68 Come and visit us when you are in Ireland! We are opening our new showroom on site next month and you can come and try out anything you would like to play. Get in touch when you are coming over! Emerald
Thank you sir As Aways your playing is absolutely brilliant. I love what this instrument can do in the right hands. Thank you for your excellent demonstration. F
Beautifully played variation of the Canon at the end Marco! Love the looks and sound of the X20. There are SO many great guitars these days but I'll definitely keep it on my radar 😊
I have an X20 (my second), and they have a very distinctive sound, some love, some hate. There is no doubting their strength, comfort and tuning stability. My issue is the neck width at the 14 fret which is almost 10% wider (at 59.3mm) than any other guitar in my collection ;Taylor, Martin, Gibson high end stuff (average 55mm). It's fine if this is your only guitar or you don't play up the neck, but it's a pain when you play other guitars. I put the question to Emerald as to whether it was possible to get a narrower neck profile (at the 14th fret), and unsurprisingly I got no reply from them. It's a shame because I would buy another one today if it had a slimmer neck profile where the neck joins the body.
It's a very interesting item... I looked at the X20 via the Emerald Website. Yikes, it's not cheap or affordable for me. I am not a professional or dedicated player. If I were though, I would buy one. Especially as the stability in all temperatures and humidity levels would make it perfect for the player on the move! Thanks for the wonderful demo and introduction! 🎉❤
I just ordered a X30 Emerald guitar and ironically my veneer is in your video when you show the 3D builder! Anyway, I have yet to see anyone talk about how the emerald guitar feels compared to Taylor or a Martin.... I see a lot of videos of how it sounds, but no one ever talks about how it feels in comparison to other popular guitars. I say this, because it's almost impossible for many people to try the guitar out. I bought it without even playing it, which is crazy, but I'm taking a chance, because I love how it sounds and everyone seems to like it. Do you have any thoughts on how it feels while you play it compared to other guitars?
It looks and sounds like you've got heavy wound strings on it. I love silver silk and steel strings. Does that guitar come in a 12 string version? A burl wood edition would be absolutely gorgeous.
Great overview! I am very interested in Emeralds for many reasons. I gotta know, what was that drop D tune??? It was really nice, I'd love to learn it.
Sounds awesome! Like the sound, not tinny, considering Carbon fiber, a must buy, looks good; as it should, excellent glossy finish. Only price would deflect sales, due to affordability, Also , can make out/ tell; Marco, has a good feel while playing it, so must feel great to play, & Carbon fiber, takes of all the issues with wood, so no trustrod adjustment required. 👍
I have an X30... It rings beautifully... It supports a pick player better than a finger picker though. Unless you have strong fingernails, this may not be for you... Pads don't take advantage of the strength of the guitar.
Beautiful Guitar. All of the Emerald stuff is incredible. Little out of my price range though unfortunately. My current acoustic guitar is the Ovation Mod TX Super Shallow and it uses a similar concept with the Sound Hole at the top left. I'm shocked how LOUD these guitars sound because of this type Sound Hole.
Emerald Guitars sound like they have figured out the how to transcend what we're the initial sonic challenges of Carbon Fiber and turn them into tonal assets.
Sorry, but I like your Cort Gold Passion much more. The sound of the Emerald is not bad, but I´m missing something in it. May be this sound is to perfekt to my stile. I play a full solid Maple/ Spruce Sigma, and love it. Maybe a little bit fuller sound, but not so sensitive like the Gold Passion, but for me it´s the right stuff. And I think for people what love a modern concept of a guitar, and a verry clear full tone, the Emerald is a good opinion.
Nice guitars, but I looked and the cheapest one I saw was $2200. I didn't look at all of the models because it's obvious that they don't make anything I can buy.

Maybe they are building a better guitar these days. My experience wasn't so rosey. My X20 fretboard was not properly leveled before it was fretted. It created all kinds of intonation issues. Did you pick the piece of verneer they put on your guitar ? Both guitars i have the tops looked even better when i got the guitars cause the gloss finish deepened and brought out the contrast in colors even more.

$2,250.00 USD? That amount of $'s could buy you a really nice Martin, Gibson, Taylor, etc. So why buy this over these brands?
