I agree about thinner necks. I am over 70 now and all my life i looked for thinner necks because i figured they would be easier to play. Now i finally realize it is not true. Wider necks for me from now on. They just play so much easier. On thinner necks my fingers were always touching strings i didn't want to and therefore buzzing, sound deadening etc... occurred. Great review! BTW- I bought a Merida Extrema Poison a/e last year and the sound holes are in the normal position but also has sound 'ports' on the side which combine for a great sound that you hear and feel while playing while still having lots of projection to your audience. It is my favorite guitar now. All solid wood... Engleman AAA Spruce top and African rosewood (Bubinga) solid back and sides.
A couple of friends have regular Cort guitars with the plywood top. I tired them and was surprised how nice they felt and sounded. (I have a Martin). This beauty looks like a major step up for Cort 👏👏. Nice reciew
I have a soundport in my acoustic, and it’s amazing. Play with it covered up and you instantly hear the dramatic difference. Most of us play for ourselves, so why not have the best sound going to your ears instead of the empty room?
I think moving away from a traditional built guitar and moving to this sound hole set up gives feed back to the person playing the music. As where it should be. Beautiful guitar. Love it Marco!!!
If you want to try a guitar with side ports on the cheap...the Michael Kelly Prelude Port can be had for $150 at Sam Ash. I really like mine. It is nowhere near as nice as the Cort...but it's $150
Beautiful guitar overall, sweet sound! I think less obtrusive fret markers would have been much more artistic but that’s just personal taste. It is an interesting design though and curious about the type of bracing since the soundboard doesn’t have a sound hole. That certainly opens up a lot of bracing/voicing options. High end luthiers are getting more creative with sound hole placement so it’s interesting to see Cort take this approach.
I actually always wanted a guitar with side port. Mainly because I play for myself most of the time and why not get the most out of it. Makes sense that it would resonate more because of surface area of the top. I went to check out the price of the guitar but none was listed as it is not yet available.
About 1000 USD, it's been out over 2 years. Cort is not sold everywhere as much, check your distributors or local websites. Also these used to be limited edition models
This guitar is perfect for someone who just wants to practice in private or play for themselves as the sound hole directs the sweet sound directly to the player.
Even better sounding in person And like he says, it's quite loud for yourself, normal for the listener Surprisingly bassy for mahogany, I think he forgot to talk about the back
Beautiful guitar...but more importantly a very rich tone for a small body acoustic. This video got my interest in Cort. I also very much liked the Golden series line. The Golden Edge being my favorite.
I can't wait to hear this for myself. One of my guitars is a lovely Martin J40, which sounded great until I bought a Yairi that blew its doors off. Still, I was amazed at how much better it sounded when in front of the guitar when a friend borrowed it. Then again, he's a better guitarist... :).
Nice guitar. If it is too loud/bright/in your face, you could always try cover up or blocking one of the Sound Ports as a test. I'd be interested in hearing about the results. Thanks
Damn Cort is just killing it with both electric and acoustic guitars! I have a PRS SE so, I already have a Cort guitar and it’s great! This may be the most beautiful acoustic guitar I’ve ever seen! I want it now!
Mario, you’re in trouble. I thought I had all the guitars that I would ever need. Now you show this amazing guitar that looks and sounds beautiful. I’m building a custom D35 like guitar. I haven’t finished the neck yet, but now I know I want to make its neck like the Cort. I guess my savings account is going to start saving for this Cort.
i have a taylor reg w scale of 25.5 and taylor mini GS with scale of 23.5 and am shocked that one feels too long / big for me and the other too small, and man, 2 inches makes a huge difference? Looked at lava and would love to try them out... not sure what is IN BETWEEN. I don't like stretching so far even playing it in classical possition.
No the bracing is standard/forward X But it has vertical braces in the upper bout Having said that, it provides amazing sustain and bass for such a small mahogany body
Can you please tell if in a loud stage the solid top and the side holes are causes of extra feedback? I use feedback buster on my Martin when I play live, otherwise the feedback will be very disturbing. Can you cover the holes in this one? Does it make a difference?
Well, it sounds louder to you because the ports are closer to your ear....I've played a few nice guitars with side ports that sound really good, it's really not a dramatic shift, the top is still vibrating and the sound escapes from the port. A classic styled guitar just has the "port" in the middle of the top, it's not that big a deal...most guitar players just have built in biases and to be honest are not the most open minded lot. They should spend more time practicing intelligently and less time worried about the manufacturer and model number.
I often wondered what the best mic placement would be on side port guitars. When recording acoustic I will always mic the guitar and its tricky to get the correct setup.
An interesting design. To my ears the tone seems a bit thin. I have a Seagull guitar, that has a much fuller sound. It may just be the speakers on my tablet affecting the sound but the sound didn't wow me. Thanks for posting.
You can listen to the wonderful sound samples from WM Sound on RUclips While i love Marco's playing, his sound is overprocessed The Modern Black is quite bright n quite bassy, for the audience the volume is normal, all surprising considering it's a small body mahogany back guitar The Roselyn LE was brighter for my taste, but still nice. BTW it's gone now, what they sell now is the Roselyn Redux, which does not sound as great to me
It's mainly for you, for the audience the projection is as any normal Grand Auditorium sized guitar Having said that the holes, and the full top, increase resonance and bass (at least to my ears) for a guitar this size with a mahogany back
High quality unique piece but expensive for a Cort! No respect for Cort on the head stock or many other imports. They made solid spruce & mahogany acoustic guitars that are very well built but sell for less than $100-150. No respect
You click on the link provided for the guitar and it's an entire page of guitar specs and pictures and the price not listed anywhere on the entire page. It's a product page... and the price of the product isn't listed lol
If you’re on the couch and only playing for yourself and the dog this guitar might work. Notice Marco did not address the issue of projection. That’s because the box cannot project sound forward without some kind of front facing hole. It doesn’t have to be round or centered on the top (McPerson for example) but it does have to be somewhere. If you can find a clever way to mic it I suppose it would be ok in a studio but live it’s a fail. Sorry Marco. I hope Cort at least gifted you the instrument. N
That's not true, for the audience the sound is quite normal For yourself, while playing, it's a bit too loud, playing for myself on the couch I'd prefer a nylon string
I like the way the guitar looks. But I am not a fan of hearing scratchy sounds when playing a note or when going to a different chord. Perhaps that neck does not fit his hand. This guy I have listened to many, many times a d he always played clean notes.
May as well shove your head into the standard soundhole. Feels like an advert, not an objective review or analysis. Soundports reduce projection in physics.
The “side port” is not really for sound ...it’s for retrieving plectrums that drop through the sound hole.
😂
😂
😂
I guess "Pick Port" didn't sit well with th PR team. They just don't get it, but we all understand the truth...
I thought it was a beer holder

Cort Gold D8 is another gem. Stunning sound and gorgeous aesthetic

It's got cupholders! That would be handy when you're busking.
😂😂😂

@@michaelflagulant most definitely. Sam Ash has a 45 day return policy so give it a try
Something to consider is the soundports being top like this are AMAZING for stage performance as it lets you monitor your own playing
I bought here in Malaysia from local distributor last month, the side sound port made me more appreciate the sound
how much does it cost?
@@suriakumar4276they sell from £999 to £1300 here in the uk

I find Wilborn Guitars' Comma series interesting but the Cort is lovely too
Love the design as well as the sound. Another one on my wish list 😮
Do get it, it's amazing, and very different from most guitars
I took the plunge couple months back after thinking about it since couple years
This guitar is absolutely gorgeous and it would certainly be a beautiful experience to play ❤

It's very loud for the player, normal guitars are good enough for that
The guitar body is basically a Helmholtz resonator. The location isn’t as important as the port area. Sounds very good by my taste. Very good clarity.
Gorgeous guitar, and even better sounding than it looks! 👍👍
Even better sounding in person
And like he says, it's quite loud for yourself, normal for the listener
Surprisingly bassy for mahogany, I think he forgot to talk about the back
Cort is such an underrated guitar brand. Every Cort guitar I've had has been amazing quality for a great price
I could not find the prices for their guitars on their site. And dealers are very hard to find.
I‘ve had good and bad Cort guitars in my hands. Then again, they were not very expensive so the value was always at least pretty decent.
what is the brand model name? and how much?
@@GGGaming-ty7rxModern Black, about USD 800-1000, depends where you get

Yes the sound, especially the bass surprised me for a small mahogany body, perhaps the full top and the side holes contribute to that
I can't wait to hear this for myself. One of my guitars is a lovely Martin J40, which sounded great until I bought a Yairi that blew its doors off. Still, I was amazed at how much better it sounded when in front of the guitar when a friend borrowed it. Then again, he's a better guitarist... :).
Love to try one! If it's balanced! Very cool!
Lovely!
Is there a pickup in there, or is an external mic required for amplification? Thank you so much.

It's bright but also surprisingly bassy for a small mahogany body
To the audience it sounds an ok volume, but quite loud for yourself
That Cort guitar really sounds great! I was shocked, that a guitar with sound holes on the side can produce such great tones!
Why?
what a special guitar !

The neck is cool, I played it, string spacing is larger than normal neck is comfy but the acoustic sound is not amazing as you would expect.

Looked at lava and would love to try them out... not sure what is IN BETWEEN. I don't like stretching so far even playing it in classical possition.
The main reason I can see for changing the location of the sound hole is to allow for a change of top bracing. Is that the case with this guitar?
No the bracing is standard/forward X
But it has vertical braces in the upper bout
Having said that, it provides amazing sustain and bass for such a small mahogany body

So true! Very unique and the sound is quite nice even though you had me wondering how you miced it for the video.
Superb... guitar, video, playing
Why not a side port and a traditional front-facing sound hole?
Bigger surface area to vibrate
Check out some videos by Wilborn guitars
I followed your example and just ordered the same guitar.
If it's a bad one, you get the blame!🤣
How do you like it?
Hows the bass register compared to a traditional sound hole guitars?
For the body size, and mahogany back, the bass is surprisingly good
Of course not as much, compared to dreadnought
please do the comparison btwn this and cort roselyn le..I would eager to hear that..

Addition of grill coverings on the sound holes would finish it.
So 2 months have passed. What's your opinion?
Is is good for studio recording sir?
For example In front of tlm 103
Will u recommend this guitar for that use?
Yes, cuts through nicely, very clean crisp notes in finger picking, and surprising bass for this size and mahogany back
Hi marco ❤ pls say ..what model rode microphone you use? ❤

you should demo a double top steel string
Does anyone know how much this guitar cost? I can’t find a price online anywhere.
About 1000 USD

I wish I could have one
Keep saving but buy something you love, worth it, makes me want to play daily

Do you now the price and release date?
My thoughts, too! Couldn't find info on either of these on the website!
There was one on Reverb that sold for $960. Not sure if that is retail price.
Well recorded guitar - how? Guess we‘re listening to a room mic like talking and guitar sound equal. But how to record the soundholes best?
Been out about 2 years now, 800-1000

I got to be honest - I don't think it sounds good. BUT it's a cool design, and I like that guitar makers try to think outside the box.
Marko 💯💯
He has lot of guitar. And I've been struggling just to get one electric guitar.😢

This seems like a guitar made for the player, not so much the audience…
...unless the player sucks, then the audience is wishing the hole is on the back of the guitar. 😁
@@db-pz1dh haha 😂
For the audience the volume is quite normal, like any other (bigger sized) guitar
