    *John as a child*
    Mum: “John, I need you to go grab some milk from the shop”
    John: “Firstly, we must understand that the process of movement is a never ending process. It is a cyclical theme that invariably comes full circle and we simply repeat the steps we once took as a child. We never truly change but rather we replicate our earlier life and we ponder on our life choices to ensure our livelihood is a fruitful one”

      I used to be the kind of person who put a lot of thought into what was 'right' for me. Eventually this thinking made me feel very stifled in life and it affected all aspects of my life in this negative way. I would continuously make the same mistake in thinking that I knew what was best for me without just giving myself the space to just try something out to see if I liked doing it first without any expectation or preconceived notions. It look me a long time to let go of what I thought I knew and just allow myself to live in the present. It was an act of trust. After much struggle, I finally gave up the notion of who I thought I was and became who I am.

    15:38 - the cherry blossom. I think Richard Feynman captures it better. “I have a friend who's an artist and has sometimes taken a view which I don't agree with very well. He'll hold up a flower and say "look how beautiful it is," and I'll agree. Then he says "I as an artist can see how beautiful this is but you as a scientist take this all apart and it becomes a dull thing," and I think that he's kind of nutty. First of all, the beauty that he sees is available to other people and to me too, I believe. Although I may not be quite as refined aesthetically as he is ... I can appreciate the beauty of a flower. At the same time, I see much more about the flower than he sees. I could imagine the cells in there, the complicated actions inside, which also have a beauty. I mean it's not just beauty at this dimension, at one centimeter; there's also beauty at smaller dimensions, the inner structure, also the processes. The fact that the colors in the flower evolved in order to attract insects to pollinate it is interesting; it means that insects can see the color. It adds a question: does this aesthetic sense also exist in the lower forms? Why is it aesthetic? All kinds of interesting questions which the science knowledge only adds to the excitement, the mystery and the awe of a flower. It only adds. I don't understand how it subtracts.”

    • @NakuNaito
      @NakuNaito 6 лет назад

      I understand but the point is that the artist sees the beauty, the scientist imagines it

    • @Ukedc259
      @Ukedc259 6 лет назад +7

      Enrico Albrizzi I think his point is that the scientist is capable of doing both. The artist only one. Therefore, contrary to the idea that science strips the world of deeper meaning, it in fact adds meaning. It enriches rather than impoverishes. I think John Butler’s insights are marvellous, but on this point I think he succumbs to romanticism.

    • @martinsommerville5442
      @martinsommerville5442 6 лет назад

      The true artist and scientist (and mystic!) are indivisible, they all see & imagine & intuit & appreciate the whole beauty of the flower. Feynman is right for sure, he was a real scientist, but his friend wasn't a real artist. I'd add that it isn't necessary to physically dismantle anything to see the beauty either, though our current dominant scientific culture seems to think that way.

      Helpful hint: Older people hate being called adorable or cute. They/we have had hugely full lives: Careers, children, harsh losses, brilliant joys, adventures, failures, triumphs, & successes. We have despaired & been elated, made discoveries, and apologized for our sins as well as hiding skeletons in our closets. We have attained these ages gracefully & clumsily; entering through doors & climbing in windows, and we didn't come this far to be considered transmogrified lawn gnomes that are cute. Please don't work in a comprehensive care home, ever, if you feel like treating older people as something whimsical and diminutive, with that annoying & condescending voice that sounds like a child is being spoken to.

    According to Romans 6 v 14 it says "Sin must not be master over you" How did humans inherit the sinful, dying condition that plagues us all? The bible explains "By the trespass of the one man (Adam) death rules as King over Adam's descendants (Romans 5 v 12, 14 and 17) Happily though, we can choose no longer to be ruled, or dominated by sin. By exercising faith in Christ's ransom sacrifice, we place ourselves under the rule of God's undeserved kindness (Romans 5 v 20 & 21) Even though we remain sinners, we need not resign ourselves to having sin dominate our lives. When we do give in to sin, we will ask God for his forgiveness. Therefore, we come under the rule of undeserved kindness with what result? Paul explained: "The undeserved kindness of God....trains us to reject ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live with soundness of mind and righteousness, and godly devotion. (Titus 2 v 11 & 12)

    They are in a church talking about dying to sin, and no mention of Jesus's sacrificial atonement and the sanctification process?

    Also the well known phrase 'The map is not the territory' springs to mind for those that flex chapter and verse as if it were God's walking stick.. The printed word is but ink and paper, a map, to where? HERE! Where else could it possibly be.
    I can see this being another 'hot potato' for those that love the 'idea' of Jesus and the control of spiritual wisdom.
    Now just imagine that what John is saying is actually known by the head of the church and always has been.... I guess that would be a bombshell to the true spiritual seeker.

    The foolishness of God is greater than the wisdom of man,...the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,... for there is a way that seems right to a man but the end result is death......The creater himself came down from heaven (even the Son) to show us how much love God has for us, and he wears our scars for eternity. Jesus said (I am the way the truth & the life, no man goes to the Father but by me).

    Could it be that this temporary transient existance in its ever changing nature is no less eternal than the eternal never changing existance John speaks of.Cirtainly seems real enough at the time.I think all that comes to pass is still valid if viewed as a constant wheel of becoming rotating around a still centre.We are both egoless and evolving ego and BOTH have there validity.

    Lol you guys are great -- he asks a question John takes off somewhere-- then back to another question from you - utterly confused-- and John takes off to another part of world ! Sin is mentioned 2-3 times ! I love the utter British handball game with no logical direction! This could be an SNL skit !

    This is what happens when a Christian practices meditation (or any one else). The perennial religion arises out of the words and symbols.
