Meditating on God's Words, on Christ Jesus , will keep one from getting lost in thought and in self. Dying to the flesh everyday. "Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven." God told Moses , I Am that I Am. He Did Not say, I Am as you think I Am. Letting the Spirit of God in us become stronger. Jesus is the antidote as John says. Amen.
I could listen to John all day. He is so calm and so soothing, but more than that, he offers deep, spiritual wisdom which always resonates. I love that John combines such a deep meditation practice with a love and respect for Christianity. Thank you, John. And thank you, Phil! I would love to come to a church which is so open to this kind of spiritual wisdom. I, too, have found that the Bible has resonated much more deeply since I began to meditate. I don't see many contradictions now. Just talk of stillness and God and love. But I still get weighed down sometimes by elements of doctrine and human judgements. John helps to make it simple for me again. I'm grateful.
I have listened to a lot of mystics. Most I find make everything extremely complicated and uses wording that most people do not even use in their day to day life. I purposely went looking for "simplicity and truth". I believe it was God that led me to John Butler's video on Buddah at the gas pumps. I started listening to a few but instantly knew they were just like the rest. Complicated. As soon as I started to listen to John's video I knew he was real. And true simplicity. I had never heard of him before yesterday. Every thing he says is so much like what others say but in a simple and profound way. He seems to be able to say something simple but in a profound way. A beautiful human being.
I feel the same.. He doesn't make a big thing out of it.. No new,, what so ever with hundreds of rules.. Just God, stillness, meditation.. Sitting when sitting.. Eating when eating and so on .. (sry for my English.. I am German) I am Just in love with him.. ;)
It really doesn't have to be that complicated in life. John's words resonate with me. Like so many mystics, he cannot help but laugh when he looks at how much we have complicated simplicity. It must look almost silly through his eyes now.

Indeed, John's spiritual concept is very similar to teachings by the Church Fathers and Orthodox Church. In many monasteries, such as Mt. I feel like he's comparing stillness with a "feeling" that you get when you're simply paying attention to peaceful, quiet situations where you aren't surrounded by distracting stimuli. I don't think stillness is a good word for it, and it has nothing to do with "spirituality"...

This man is so beautiful, and I say that as a Buddhist. He really does the Christian faith justice, it needs more people like him, even at Christmas time, a time of love and peace, more and more people are turning towards fear and depression - its not their fault, but they're lacking love, whether you call it gods love or their own, most are truly lacking. May you all be well, and look within for spiritual growth, not look to the outside world.

I've never sought out content that deals with the spiritual, with God, but I do like ASMR. But even though I ended up here for that, I've stayed for John and his gentle, warm and sage spirit full of wisdom and good humor. I've watched at least five of these videos in the past week, and I've found myself touched, thoughtful, and...soothed? Of an existential agony that comes from thinking too darn much? This wonderful video reminds me of the time in 1979 when I visited dear friends Mack and Velma Williams at their old home on South New Hope Road in Belmont, NC. I was having emotional problems, anxiety, irrational fear. I was anorexic, thin. Velma invited me to visit for dinner. It was a very foggy night in March. Velma served salmon patties. After dinner she told me to lie on the sofa in front of the fireplace. Velma sat on a footstool and read “Quotations of Marcus Aurelius.” Mack sat dozing in a chair. Velma’s voice was soft as these voices. It was ASMR if ever there was ASMR. My idea of heaven on earth! Snooze City, fer sure, fer SURE!

Rupert has more flowers than John! And more words. John said recently "the more I see the less I speak." I can't entice John into talking about words and concepts. He prefers that which he can speak most authentically about which is stillness.
John describes the exact same experience and truth which has been described by Ramana Maharshi, or Robert Adams and other Advaita and Jnana sages. It is wonderful to see how different paths and practices all lead to the same top of the mountain - identical understanding of reality. It is even more wonderful that they all agree that the best practice is silence.These John's videos are lovable, keep on :)

Televangelists are nothing but vessels of evil. They do nothing but leech money off the needy, the confused and the desperate and they bastardise the gospel to fit their own twisted ways. They talk about being men of God yet they live in lavish mansions, have private jets and fancy cars, all using the money that people send to them in hopes of prosperity. You cannot serve God and serve money as well. They’re nothing but thieves and there’s a special place in hell for motherfuckers like that
