Hi 🙏 I've just discovered these videos , These teachings are so pure , I feel blessed that Gods led me to John and Phil 🙏 A John Butler a day keep the doctor at bay. 💞
How wonderful that there are souls like this still around. He is totally living the Truth. How different to the mad ‘rushing from there to there’ as we are taught. Keep busy, keep your mind occupied. It’s all the opposite really, isn’t it? Thanks John - a million hugs from an 85 year old.
Without wanting to come across as giving advice - I'm really not, but I thought I'd pass something on that may change the way you view yourself. Your comment reminded me so much of me a while ago, so I hope you don't mind me passing what has been found on to you. You can learn to understand that the mind and its thoughts are not you - because they really are not. You can accept yourself as divine grace - because you really are, even if you don't believe it yet. You can stand objectively and look at your life as it has been, with all your wrong doings and virtues along the way, and do so without guilt and without judgement, and you can practice meditation. With meditation you can see yourself, the world and your actions as an observer, and in so doing your actions change of their own accord - you don't do it. But most importantly, if you do none of those things, know you cannot become a better person no matter what you do, it is simply not possible. This is the revelation of all the things I've mentioned. You cannot become a better person because you are divine and cannot be otherwise. This misunderstanding leads to deep unhappiness and even self-destruction. The thing that we want, we already are.
@@Niko-xz5lk - In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I rebuke the spirit of deception and rebellion that has taken a hold on your mind and sould. That which you have spoken is new age nonsense from the pit of Hell! Repent of your self-righteous, deceiving, false doctrine and call upon the name of The Lord Jesus Christ! There is no other name given to man by which we must be saved. Only Jesus saves.
Because a lot of what he's says is negative....not all of it by any means but a lot of it. He emphasises 'There's a lot of things we can't change'etc. But not the things those prepared (to take up arms against a sea of troubles)to take the challenge CAN. If you critically examine alot if what John says it contradicts itself. He would claim otherwise but to me he seems almost fundamentalist. 'Don't criticice the higher powers that judge/punish you (unfairly?)'cos you don't understand. Which of course is precisely the same argument the rich have laid on the poor for malenia ou don't understand
@Daniel Factor I don't. But this "don't watch it and it isn't there" is one of the most retarded arguments ever made. The fact that some sluts make more money than hardworking people because they whisper into a camera almost undressed is just disgusting and shows the flaw in our societies.
I'm not a Christian, but I have suffered from depression since a very young age (I'm now 30). I usually hate to hear people talk on RUclips about it because I always feel like it's not my experience so it doesn't apply. However I agree with so much John's saying. He got through his depression because he forgot about it, was distracted from it. This was the case because he remained open to new people and circumstances, did not become withdrawn and limit himself. "I can't do that, I can't go there, that won't work..." Etc. Once you open yourself up to all the world can throw at you in your short life, new opportunities and people will present themselves. I practice this every day, checking for moments of withdrawal and correcting them. Breaking the cycle. Hope you're all well x
I dont believe in god but I tip my hat to this man, he actually has elucidated some valuable lessons from life and his religion. Good for him and thanks for spreading a message of hope to all.
I don’t believe in God either but Johns message is quite enlightening and with a lot of wisdom. Hope, direction and believe is a powerful thing and when it comes with the years it will in many ways guide you.
@@ericatard God is there, all we have to do is go on our knees and be humble, ask Jesus to show us the truth and He will 100% show you He is there. I spent 35 years of my life believing there was nothing more than what we can see, smell and hear. Except we can only perceive a tiny amount of our surroundings. We cannot say there is no God, because we have not searched hard enough. Animals can see and smell things we cannot, that does not mean such things do not exist. It just means we are ignorant of them at this time. It is the same with the spirit. All the hard problems are in the start when we are blind and stumble. But if we have faith and pray, God will guide us and provide. Materialism and unbelief is destroying our world. Be different. I am just an insignificant farmer from Romania, in the end, what i say does not matter much. I found that some people are too proud and stubborn to even go on their knees when they are alone. Such people will never accept God, no matter how much proof one gives them. Instead they would rather believe that we come from an accident, a cosmic explosion where nothing exploded and created everything, all this beauty and order coming from something that actually defies the laws of physics. Their Big Bang is just another word for a miracle. It takes faith to be an atheist too. So why not look if there actually is a God ? You have nothing to lose, only to gain. I wish you all the best and regardless of what you will do in your life, i hope it will be a life of smiles and love.
People who don't know you or know your situation have no right to tell you to smile or 'cheer up' at random. It is rude and discourteous and makes a mockery of your emotions and mindset.
@Christie Colley completely agree. It's so inappropriate. It also makes me very annoyed at the person saying it, and then I feel guilty because the person is trying to be positive. The way I see it is when someone says "cheer up" "snap out of it" or "smile" is a lose-lose saying.
Welllllll, I won’t tell you to cheer up, but I will say I hope you can see the brighter side of things. I mean, just ignoring what I don’t know about you, what I do know is you have a computer. You speak English, maybe in America? You at least have essentials like a roof over your head, clothes, food. We all could’ve been born on the other side of the world not knowing where our next meal is coming from, but yet they find reasons to smile. I just like to let people know I’m not trying to be insensitive. I just want you to know that all this bad stormy clouds will never change the fact there’s a sunshine behind them. That’s all.
My depression/anxiety has forced me to stop working, behind in bills etc, I think a part of it is this day and age. I just want to feel that pure happiness again! Feeling trapped is the worst!
Read up on inattentive ADHD. A major cause of depression in the 4% of the population that suffer from it. Often misdiagnosed as GAD and clinical depression. It can be turned around with the right meds and CBT. Good luck.
It's never too late to make a change that will alter the course of your life. Change of career, new hobby, new city, etc. I hope you don't feel as though you can't make a leap to something new and a new purpose. Best wishes.
Shane T I too have depression/anxiety . In some of John’s other videos and others like Ekhart Tolle, Rupert Spira etc. They describe about been willing to keep coming back to being in the “now” and it does work for me to the point where I understand the mechanism of these negative thoughts with some space between my real self ( the “you”that notices that depression is there) and these thoughts and realise that one of these thoughts holding all the others together is a “me” thought . For example- what will happen to me if I can;t pay these bills” The thought of me and what might happen to me is yet another thought but more subtle so takes an alertness to catch it in the act , but its not your real self any more than the thought of a tree is a real tree .In other words , It is seen that I am not my depression .What happens gradually is that they don’t overwelm you anymore because you realise they don;t speak the truth and you start to believe in them less and less. One thing I notice more and more about despression or anxiousness is that the theme is always about past or future. It might not happen overnight but be willing to have a go at this coming back into the present. I start by listening to sounds around , look at something in the room or things going on around you. Feel the sensation in your arms and legs , all that kind of stuff keep doing it everytime you;re aware you’re feeling depressed. Trust me it gets better even though when you;re new to it at first it can sometimes be a bit tricky till you get the hang of it because we’re so used to living in the mind and this is precisely why it works because it brings us out of the thinking level . The thoughts evaporate just like bad dreams end when you wake up , you don;t have to try and block them out, they just go by themselves. As for the bills you will be likely to deal with the real situation a lot more practically and effectively in the present with the help of a healthy mind when your emotions are no longer in the way . 😎
Gessuto the only time youtube comment sections talk poorly about Russians is when they talk negatively about americans for no reason. People hate the government and often confuse that by hating the citizens that have no control over the government

YES! I am going through spiritual awakening after going through depression. Now, the whole meaning of the world is changing for me at a rapid speed I never imagined. Surely, it's grace in disguise.
@@basicbase749 yes. a lot of spiritual teacher go through this phase. like eckhart tolle, this essential because we started to realize we are living in a maya and people and society seems hostile. it might take a long time, for me it took me 8 years. now, I come out of the dark night of the soul phrase, I cannot tell you how much joy I experienced after the depression. happy for you. it is sad to live a life dictated by your own ego.
@@dannysze8183 I am so glad to know you're out of your dark night. I think, I still have some way to go. I don't hate anyone but at the same time I don't feel tremendous love for anyone or feel loved also. I feel numb. I still feel I work through my ego. Maybe my ego is a self-defense to not get hurt. But I wish I reach that stage someday, where I am filled with so much love that I have it enough to share to the world and for myself as well. And I live from love, not ego. Thank you for your words!
@@basicbase749 yes, it is a struggle between your ego and your true self. we are taught to live on our own ego so it is very uncomfortable and scary to live on your true self. most of the people said that it took them years to go through this phase. some said it took them 12 years. it is a struggle between your inner angel vs your inner devil. but your true self will eventually win. love god and love your true self. god bless. it is a pain before a child is born.

I am always amazed by the synchronization of the bells and John’s words. Right at the end of his sentence, here come the bells . Absolutely divine. Thank you John thank you Phil ❤️❤️.
This couldn't have come out at a more apt time. The "cheer up" part really spoke to me because it has been said and it really does feel like someone is undermining the way you feel. If only it was that easy to not be severely depressed. Thank you John and all
Me too. It irritates me so much " cheer up or snap out of it " if only it were that simple but from this guy I have learnt to forget about it and look to replace it. It's like saying take yourself out of yourself to enable you to be yourself.
What a blessing, for me, to have these opportunities to listen to this wise man. Coming up, as the 9th child in a family with TEN children...very little/few memories of spending time listening to my own father. Never met my grandfathers. These vids, bring me a sense of deep comfort. Meeting John in real life/real time, would be a dream come true. This is likely the closest to "meeting" him as I'll get. And for that, I am incredibly grateful. Thank you so very much. Warm regards, Joan
Well, depressed as I’ve been today... the existensial angst I felt today And then out of the blue, without searching for it, this video pops up. Peculiar, peculiar indeed.
@@smcx0231 Two observations: firstly, Samuel didn't say that this made him feel better, just that it popped up at a time when he was terribly depressed. Secondly, if you consider these videos to be 'a lot of shite', why choose to spend your time watching them?
@@smcx0231 It's your interpretation that he implied that the video made him feel better; he neither confirms not denies this. I completely agree that you need not 'explain yourself' to me, or indeed anyone else. The question I asked of you was not posed to be confrontational, but merely to understand your position better - if you find them 'all' like that, you must have watched a number, and found none helpful. Finally, posting your opinion on a public forum such as RUclips will in almost all cases air your view to strangers who are equally at liberty to comment. I do genuinely hope that you manage to find a video that makes you feel better - it's something I have looked for too.
I wish preachers talked in this tone of voice. I may actually want to listen. I may not believe everything they say, but at least i'd listen and find something of meaning and be enlightened by that.
It can be hard to do when you're addressing a room full of people for a homily. This way is definitely a lot more interesting to listen though, it feels so much more personal, like you've come in, sat down with John, and are listening to him simply talk to you.
Preheat oven to 200c. 200g Buddha 275g Jesus 25g Frankincense and Myrrh, finely chopped 150g Santa Claus 50g Bob Ross 30g Albus Dumbledore, one sprig Mix until combined. Bake for 25 mins, until golden. = John Butler
Lemonfairy in my opinion, too much Albus Dumbledore, it’ll tend to groom a 10 year old boy to be slaughtered by the most powerful dark wizard in history when it hits your palette.
It is a privilege to receive these videos John, I could go on and on about why I like them. I think it's truth spoken from a tender heart that draws me mostly.... you're great, thank you for all your efforts , very comforting, and much appreciated.God bless you ☺
I see myself a lot in Mr Butler, even though I am only 33y old. I guess when you are a seaker of the big questions of life you are bound to get some dark moments in life. This clip reminded me of a quote I read during my academic studies in religion: "For the wise man everything is suffering". It's an Indian point of view, and I see a lot of eastern philosophy in Mr Butlers reasoning. I would also argue that the whole notion of "cheering up" that we have here in west may be a result of the growing view of the "holy self" (second wave of New Age). That the individual is central and true happiness/potential comes from yourself and not from the community/group or other outside source. It goes hand in hand with the consumer culture that forms us to find happiness if only our worldly individual needs are fufilled.
This video I know by the heart. In the flood of mostly spiritual businessmans this is so refreshing. I am very grateful to John and all of you who made this sharing possible. True genuine alive mystic in the line of Meister Eckhart. It is so good to hear this simple yet profound gentleman. It is honor to live at the same time with you John. Thank you
Indeed ....J F .......its as though the person delivering these empty sentiments isn't in tune within.....harsh words to one feeling the weight of this phantom.....depression ......sadly many of these individuals I have encountered work with me in the Medical field...put on a happy face !! Whilst falling apart....without the Lord I would be nothing.... Blessings~
@OzarkoBlam Insanity? Illness? (that one is more "trendy"/popular from what I've seen in the past too, not just in this thread) I always call it a *symptom* or a reaction to certain realizations (unless it's truly crippling/severe, something constant or inherited, in which case I'd say meds are mandatory). Stupidity and what's wrong in this world (stupidity's consequences, mainly) is insanity and an illness. Until we fix/tone it down, I know depression is gonna be here (well, in my case it was "mild" and it's been replaced by a constant/strong taste of anxiety, but I've always had that "spidersense" ringing in my head, that something new (or old, past mistake, like a huge war) is gonna go wrong soon, be it because of the rising levels of human stupidity/hate/immaturity/selfishness, etc. or simply because of life, since it's quite unforgiving to many of us and we're so fragile, lol... in fact, that alone, how short life is, is and would probably be enough to cause depression, even if everything wasn't so wrong and all ppl were united and truly good and logical, fair, and capable of true peace and, lastly and automatically, of evolution as well; though you'd have only one, or two, reason(s) to be depressed then😏). I'm curious to see what others think of my description of depression. Even if I'm gonna feel disappointed. It's ok tho, I can't be more disappointed than I already am💩
@Will 'n Co ok, you know what I've lived better than me, apparently xD I won't waste my time with you, it's been some time but I'm sure I had mentioned that there are many kinds and levels of depression. If not, I'm mentioning it now, and won't bother adding anything else.
Dear John, what you said about depression is so true, most people just don't go into it, it has its purpose for sure. State of mind like this doesn't happen for no reason. John, I truly value your experience, deeply respect your honesty about this issue. In the west people are so accustomed to word "depression" + most people I've met in the US were on antidepressants and it seemed very normal for them. I was deeply surprised when I found out. As for me, I grew up not knowing such words: stress or psycho-somatic disorders or depression. Yes, lucky I was...Recently, I've been listening to all kind of specialist talking about depression referring not only to biochemical dis-balance of hormones, but also as a fundamental conflict, a state of soul of the human being that happens for reason. Thank you and Phil for recording this video. John's direct experience, his exploration of it and true knowledge from going thought it fully is needed and appreciated.
A delight to hear your tender honesty John, gracious as ever. Thank you for sharing. I like the warmth you and Phil share but this format works too. Go well.
after 2 minutes you made me smile and feel relief. From constant panic, shivering, hyperventilating and thinking about ending it, so full of pain, loneliness, despair. I miss her
Less is more..no apologies needed sweetheart. I adore this talk. You're helping us so no apologies. Thank you so so much. I've had an 8 yr depression episode... entirely sober...I think it just happens.... gotta ride it out. So difficult, nearly unbearable and unless you have it, it's undescribable. Let it pass my friends...it will...I promise you
Certain cultures demonize depression as a doomsday sickness. Ptsd and depression have been a part of my life for so long now. Once I started to learn from it, I became more invested in my understandings of my conditions. Tough times are a lesson for us all.
I have tears in my eyes listening to this video. John, I experience a depression at 16 that lasted 4 years. Too young to understand it and have tools for it. Now I am 33 and I finally understood my calling, which is to become a Mental Health Counselor. It was a journey getting here. I became a high school teacher and eventually ended up making this decision. God works in mysterious ways. I cannot express you how meaningful and healing this video is for me.
What a wonderful person. He really make me smile when he laugh. I don't know why but he brings me peace, someone said to me once that i have an old soul. As a kid i had really deep questions and interests. More mature? I don't know. I suffer alot of pain (more mental than physical) all that pain only give more knowledge. Im still not in peace with my inner thoughts. I need to let go so much anger. I know im in the correct path... i love to see the little details of life, the smells, the distant sounds, stars in an open night sky. I think we are going to fast in modern days. We need to go slower, this is not a race. Im going to embrace my life as much independent and self-sufficient as i can. Repurposing objets, taking care of others, helping as much as i can. One great lessons i learned is that we live through others. Helping them help us. That grow your heart strong. We need to live just with the basic so we can experience spiritual growth. Cheers from Argentina.
Phil you’ve outdone yourself. Picture looks great and the sound is pristine! I think you’ve gotten the formula down. And just in time for this amazing message from John. Very poignant. Thank you both!
Adam Tomkins do you really think Phil would go to the trouble of all this just to bang on the floor? Come on dude. That’s not Phil. I assume it’s the priest. I’ve just about come to believe he’s trying to run them out of the church by doing “construction” whenever they record. Phil actually wanted to record at a house for silence sake but we all whined till he went back to church.
You know what, Adam, why don't you switch to other channels which are actually about ASMR? Instead of giving orders to people who's work you so ungratefully enjoy. I doubt you've offered any help to those man, so shut up. Or, you could also try to be gratefull and POLITE. They say it works wonders.
Thanks John for sharing more insights of your life and how you pulled yourself out of these pits, it sounds so similar to me and helps to find the silver lining at the horizon again 🙏
@@stevee7774 LOL Well, there's no denying that. I was speaking specifically about the quality of recording on John's voice, whereas in the past it had been quite muffled prior to this video. But yes, for some reason whenever they filmed in that church, there was always a myriad of sounds in the background that was eerily reminiscent of aggressive construction work LOL
I love the way the church bell chimes at perfect moments - like when he finishes the Russian rendition of the poem. It's like watching a Thich Nhat Hanh video when a summary statement is made and the gong strikes
I love that expression, "You never know what lies around the corner!" Will the sun come from behind the cloud today? -No! Oh, well. Perhaps tomorrow...
I don't know if you'll ever see this, John, being so old a video. It has truly been inspiring and given me hope. For years in my teens and twenties I was depressed and suicidal. Having finally come out of it through a lot of hard work, I got a job and felt I was finally "going somewhere". Then the pandemic hit and I now suffer from long-covid, having been extremely ill and unable to work for several years now. I'm slowly building strength and adjusting to my new norm, and I feel so defeated. So many things I wanted to do are not physically possible anymore. I look at school and other such things and, in my mid-thirties, feel so far behind. Feel so hopeless. So thank you for sharing your story here. I needed to hear it.
Such a Luminous, Humble and Wise Soul 🙏 THANK YOU for BEING!!! 🙏❤️🙏 Thank You also for yesterday's Beautiful and Precious conversation (Live Broadcast) with Rick Archer, presented on his channel 'BuddhaAtTheGasPump'. 🙏 My deepest Gratitude, Joy & Love 💫🕉️💫🙏❤️🙏
John brings you back down to earth, makes you consider what is important. Quiet reflection. Its needed more than ever in this day and age, with all the advertising, social media bullshit. We all need this.
I've never been more captivated by one man's life. Mr. Butler, you have been and continue to be, one of the biggest inspirations in my life and I appreciate your contribution to the world. May God continue to bless and keep you
Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I can’t emphasize enough how correct this approach is. Even the transitions are great. This format will get you the most views. I would say about 2/3 of your audience originate from the ASMR community, and this is perfect for that. Many of us here would have never found John without the ASMR aspect. ( We found it through ASMR, but we came back for the message. ) I hope you guys will continue to produce in this way. It’s exactly right. In case you can’t tell, I’m proud of you Phil. 😅
Well, Super Glued - I need all the encouragement I can get. So thanks for that. The new setup - much simplified - helps enormously. iPhone with Filmic Pro, Rode adaptor, 2 lav mics in. I still haven't cracked the technical side of the output from iMovie to .mov and then upload to RUclips to maintain quality - this video looks a bit 'squashed' to me. And next time I'm going to swap my mic and John's mic. John's Aputure is actually better quality but my Sony is brighter and comes across more clearly in the final edit. Don't know why.
If only all people could be like John Butler, what a kind and enlightened world we would live in. Living as true human beings and not agressive pea brained ego maniacs. If only...
I really appreciate this video Mr. Butler. When I saw the title, I was frankly quite taken aback at how, for lack of a better word, insensitive it seemed, however after watching, I realized that this perspective of depression is one that in my life I hadn't before considered. Despite me being Agnostic, your words reached me and resonate with me, and has given me a refreshing look on my past and how to think of it, and therefore better my present life. Thank you for these videos Mr. Butler. I hope you find comfort in the fact that you have at least helped one person who fell on your videos (although I know there are others who feel the same way about this !)
Dear Sir,listening to you now is as if your telling my story.Really, yet through at all I am here, happier, even healthier in many ways.It was tough,as I look at what I have now after I lost it all,I rather be here with nothing. For I learned and still learning the true meaning of it all. I appreciate you so much.Thank you.Thank God I found you .Be well.God bless.
As a long time seeker, and listener to ASMR venues, 'depression', in my humble opinion, occurs, (or is fed into), by unfocused, unbridled narcissism. Having no clear goals, and no inner drive to accomplish what is important to one's life, only makes the situation worse. John seems to be a perfect example of this phenomena. He obviously is not depressed now, and I am happy he is on-task, with Phil as an enabler of his life-story. Thanks.
He always moves me to tears whenever I see him speak. What a beautiful soul and I can still see the Depression etched into his face all these years later. I have it myself.
I love you John. I am so thankful for these videos ; you remind me of my beloved grandfather, who left this life too soon. You are helping me deal with his loss and my daily struggles being alone. Your soothing voice and soft words ease my mind. You are godsent. A thousand times, thank you. Be blessed✨🙏
Dear John, I am so glad to have come across you through the conscioustv interview. I also had a Russian mother and rediscovered Russian Orthodoxy much later in life. I appreciate that you bring a Russian perspective into some of your talks, not out of. some silly sense of national or cultural pride but because it contains, and even embraces the reality of suffering, of depression, of the pain of living not as aberrations but as deep soul lessons, as urgings to deeper seeking, deeper growth, something, in the end, to be grateful for. Hearing you remind me of that, I am so very thankful. God bless you and keep you.
Thank you so much, dear Tosca. Your words go straight to my heart. You may like my recent book 'Mystic Forbearance - in Russia' - see the website www.spiritualunfoldment.co.uk
I've been subbed for a while but never really listened until today as I feel tired, exhausted and burnt out. I have Bluetooth headphones on and it just felt like the burden upon my shoulders dissipated into thin air and I hung there drifting upon every beautiful word. Thank you so very much. I'm settling into an afternoon of listening to your other talks. Had to chuckle at your irritation of people saying CHEER UP when one is depressed ! It's typically English for Sure but as you say that silent arm around your shoulders or in my case just to have someone there, not saying anything, just being ... Much Gratitude 🙏
A friend introduced me to John. So genuine. someone who has clearly touched and lives from the spiritual reality that all religions point to (so ineffectively these days). A joy to listen to. Very authentic perspective on depression. ❤️
"at last I am in a world where everyone is as miserable and depressed as me" actually made me laugh out! I've never been to Russia but I now feel like I completely understand the place
I think this has to be the most meaningful discussion on depression that I have ever heard. As a person questing for God, and one who has experienced depression since I can remember, I am very grateful for this. I am very grateful for all of John's wisdom. Thank you very much.
Every he says is always so close to home and it helps me sleep because I stop worrying so much when listening to him talk about things that I can relate to
I'm back again today. This is quite frankly probably my very favorite of Butler's videos. Excellent sound quality, excellent format; and of course the content is meaningful and helpful
@Jamie Pritchard You basically made my point. The guy is more than just a sleep aid with a beard, and I find it sad that people are reducing him to that in their minds. Just the way I feel about it. No point in arguing about it further.

Aren't we all troubled in our own way? :)
@@Niko-xz5lk thank you for reminding me👍

Omg thought so too! 😁

Right. Hes lovely.
'Don't criticice the higher powers that judge/punish you

@Daniel Factor He's thinking "how dare you imply this amazing man is better than my slutty typical asmrtist" :P
he's good but Horst Luening from whisky.com is the asmr king.
@Daniel Factor You got some other term for female "ASMR-artists" who perform mainly to show their body to the camera. Nothing but soft-porn.
@Daniel Factor I don't. But this "don't watch it and it isn't there" is one of the most retarded arguments ever made. The fact that some sluts make more money than hardworking people because they whisper into a camera almost undressed is just disgusting and shows the flaw in our societies.

@@jimr4002 it brainwashes people to hope for a better life when this is all we’ve got

Very true

@Angelina please, i'm begging you to let people believe whatever they want. god may be there, but not for us.
OMG I HATE it when someone, especially a stranger, tells me to "smile", or if I seem upset, they say, "oh it's not so bad". SO insensitive!
Especially from older people.
People who don't know you or know your situation have no right to tell you to smile or 'cheer up' at random. It is rude and discourteous and makes a mockery of your emotions and mindset.
@@smackedinthejaw It's so lazy, might as well say hi I don't give a shit about you.

Have you tried yoga/meditation?
This video reminds me of how much I’ve always wanted a grandfather 😭❤️
Without any sentimentality John would say you and he are one in spirit anyway - so you do. Phil

Watch this channel, Gessuto, I'll soon publish a book about my time in Russia

My feelings exactly.
By all means, yes. Thank you.
Thank you

"Cheer up" or "Get over it" seem a very cruel thing to say to a person who is depressed. or feeling down.

@OzarkoBlam Insanity?
Illness? (that one is more "trendy"/popular from what I've seen in the past too, not just in this thread)
I always call it a *symptom* or a reaction to certain realizations (unless it's truly crippling/severe, something constant or inherited, in which case I'd say meds are mandatory).
@Will 'n Co ok, you know what I've lived better than me, apparently xD
I won't waste my time with you, it's been some time but I'm sure I had mentioned that there are many kinds and levels of depression. If not, I'm mentioning it now, and won't bother adding anything else.
@Will 'n Co he’s actually completely right people misinterpret depression as sadness, he’s actually right in his description
Go well.

Certain cultures demonize depression as a doomsday sickness. Ptsd and depression have been a part of my life for so long now. Once I started to learn from it, I became more invested in my understandings of my conditions. Tough times are a lesson for us all.
Plain simple truth. Refreshing honesty. Grandpa from Heidi.
Mysterious ways indeed. Lovely to hear your experience. Bless. Phil
Everytime you have a message it is in perfect time to fit in my life. Thank you . The lord speaks through you. Amen
But please SHUT UP while John is recording. We can hear you banging plastic containers on the stone floor and it is very disturbing.

I do see it - and sympathise. Struggle on

I appreciate you so much.Thank you.Thank God I found you .Be well.God bless.
he's wonderful and his eyes are so kind
As a long time seeker, and listener to ASMR venues, 'depression', in my humble opinion, occurs, (or is fed into), by unfocused, unbridled narcissism. Having no clear goals, and no inner drive to accomplish what is important to one's life, only makes the situation worse. John seems to be a perfect example of this phenomena. He obviously is not depressed now, and I am happy he is on-task, with Phil as an enabler of his life-story. Thanks.
He sounds like Winnie the Pooh
Now I can't unhear Pooh...
Winnie The Pops
you've ruined it now
I solve puzzles And things yeah if he aged about 30 years as far as the voice goes.
Grow up
He always moves me to tears whenever I see him speak.
What a beautiful soul and I can still see the Depression etched into his face all these years later.
I have it myself.
This video is what I needed to understand my depression. Thank you. 😃
Love you John Butler. Thank you for sharing yourself and touching me for God.
I like this format, but also enjoy Phil and John's conversational style. Thanks for making these videos - they've helped me along my journey :)
Thanks Monique - more conversations on the way. :-) Phil
Life is often so fast paced and frantic but I find that these videos help slow it down.
I always feel so positive after watching your videos John :) GOD bless you!
Much Gratitude 🙏
thank you for what you do John. it is a blessing
So wrong
I feel so privileged and grateful to have found this channel. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏❤🙏
I think this has to be the most meaningful discussion on depression that I have ever heard. As a person questing for God, and one who has experienced depression since I can remember, I am very grateful for this. I am very grateful for all of John's wisdom. Thank you very much.
Every he says is always so close to home and it helps me sleep because I stop worrying so much when listening to him talk about things that I can relate to
This is one of my favorite videos. I watch it (or simply listen to it) regularly. It still helps me feel better LOL
Such a wise man, your insight & light is simply magic!!! Much love, light and blessings to you John and those bring us these fab videos. Thank you
I love what he said about people telling you to cheer up. Like, gee thanks! 😂
Tempest Marí exactly. Like it’s something you can turn on and off like a light switch . It’s more like a possession
Worse when they say snap out of it
Up cheer
Your presence and kindness move me to tears...Namaste, dear one!
I'm back again today. This is quite frankly probably my very favorite of Butler's videos. Excellent sound quality, excellent format; and of course the content is meaningful and helpful
I listen to him right before bed every night . Works every time.
When my depression rears it’s ugly head, I roll with it....I try and work out the trigger and go from there x
It would be great if more people commented with appreciation for this guy as a person and not comments about what he sounds like or looks like.
@Jamie Pritchard You basically made my point. The guy is more than just a sleep aid with a beard, and I find it sad that people are reducing him to that in their minds. Just the way I feel about it. No point in arguing about it further.
Thank you, John. Thank you so much.
Thank you John for sharing your self with us. You are a very beautiful person and a beautiful soul. It is wonderful to hear not only your words but also your silence. Bless you John. -Giancarlo Toronto Canada
I needed this. Thank you for sharing his wisdom
