The new Ghazghkull model is phenomenal - and it was a great experience getting to paint one! Which is you favourite 40K hero model?
Me
I would go for Arhiman I just love his new model
Strictly 40k wise my favorite is Ghazghkull. His model is so fabulously brutal. But if you include Horus Heresy, my absolute favorite is Rogal Dorn. That model oozes authority and defiance, which is appropriate as his Wall Name was Defiance.
It's a cool model - the 30K version of him is great too!
I love the Dorn model!
This Ghazghkull model is hands down the best model games workshop has ever made, and you have painted him like an absolute god.
mere mortals can only dream of obtaining your painting skills.
Haha thanks Daniel - I appreciate the kind words! Hopefully this video makes it straight forward for anyone to get great results!
@@ThePaintingCoach thing is, i started collecting warhammer 40k like 2 months ago and i did actually get my hands on the ork part of Prophecy of the wolf. As we speak im still painting a whole bunch of boys. after that ill paint the nobs, then the Meganobs, then makari, and THEN im gonna paint Ghazkhull thraka. Im just afraid ill screw up my painting so he doesnt look as epic as hes meant to. i will probably try to follow your video.
Im not even an Ork player but i need this in my life. What an awesome model
Just got this mad lad for Christmas and I’m really looking forward to painting him. This tutorial helps a lot. Thanks! Amazing paint job.
Cheers - good luck with him!
Tv

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback!
I used this tutorial to paint my Thraka and is my favourite paintjob so far. Thank you for this video.
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know!
Stunning result, and with crystal clear easy steps. Those scuffed checkers all over the model make for a very strong theme.
Cheers buddy - glad you enjoyed it! I appreciate the feedback as always!
Grabbed this krumpa a while back and havnt had the balls to have a go at it until watchin this vid...many times! Thanks from a fellow Welshy 👍🏻🏴

And you got a nice deep voice, with your positive talk you have a little Bob Ross soul ;)
Thank you so much Pato that means a lot!

Me, who glued mine back in: I have no such weakness
Great vid bud, I just found your channel today after prepping my own Ghazghull. I won't be following point for point, but there are things any painter can learn in this guide.
Great work

Thanks Charlotte - glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, great tutorial mate. Looks fantastic. Easy to follow along. Well done. Earned a new subscriber.
Thanks Billy - appreciate it!
Awesome video. Took me 3 weeks to paint my ghaz but I did it one step at a time. My hands shake and I had a really hard time painting the checkerboard on the claw+jaw but I'm glad with how my biggest boss turned out.
My Void Dragon is next /kefka laugh
Awesome - glad you finished him and that the video helped!
Thanks for this awesome tutorial. I used it for my Ghazghkull. I just got me a Ork Jet I'm going to make Burna Bomber today. Kinda sad I haven't found a tutorial as good as this one for them yet.
Glad it helped! You can use the same techniques as this tutorial on it with no issue :)
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing!

@@ThePaintingCoach Helped me immensely 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach Subscribed by the way 😀
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Great tutorial
Thanks William!
Damn! So awesome! I guess i need that model too)
Cheers!
How do you paint the base? What colours?
Off the top of my head i think i based the stone with mechanicus grey and the earth with steel legion drab, the metal with leadbelcher, then washed the whole lot with agrax earthshade. I drybrushed the earth with karak stone, mechanicus with administratum grey and then the metal I left and ran some thinned skrag brown into the recesses to act like rust
@@ThePaintingCoach ty for reply m8 😃
No problem
The little eye liner brushes that you can buy 1000 fer $10 are awesome also.
awesome work and such a good quality video, would be a pleasure to see also how you set your paint station, and how you prepare pieces like head and maw to that kind of support stuff
Thank you so much! I am moving in the next month and I hope that in my new studio I will ne anle to show all of that!
I would love to see this color scheme on the Votann. Black, tainted iron, some red.
Thank you for another great video ! I've just started painting with my Son and your tips are helping us a lot any chance of you doing a video on Zodgrod Wortsnagga or Beastboss? Thanks again
Glad the videos are helping! I'm afraid I don't have plans to do those models as I have done a fair few orks - check out my white squig tutorial as you should be able to transfer the techniques
@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you I loved that one too, not to worry. You are really good at teaching and your models are outstanding. I think we need to get some better brushes next we are using some basic ones at the moment, is there any you would recommend?
I use Winsor & Newton Series 7 - should be a link in the description - avoid the miniature brushes as they don't hold enough paint 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you!
Top video!!! Need more orks on channel!
Haha thanks! I have this, eavy metal ork skin and contrast orks!
Really helpful vid, cheers!
Oldie but a goldie! Glad you liked it!
Odd question, but if i lacked a black primer, could i use a grey one, then base coat the model black with abaddon black, then proceed as per the guide?
Yes you can, but I wouldn't bother doing the whole thing black - just the bits that will be black in the end
Just found your channel, fantastic tutorial 👍🏼😃 still waiting to get my Ghaz ☹️ but when he arrives I’ll come back for some help 👍🏼 fantastic finish, love the way you did the eyes.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment- I really appreciate it! Good luck with your Ghaz - feel free to ask any questions you may have!
phenomenal work. will use this for my ork . thx =)
Thanks for the feedback - I really appreciate it! Good luck with yours!
I love the model! I'm an incredibly inexperienced painter, so I was wondering if there would be any chance of you covering the basic bloodletter detachment. It's an incredibly easy job, I just feel like a fish out of water trying to keep the details without making them flat colours.
Thanks for the comment!
I haven't got any blood letters handy - off the top of my head I'd probably prime with grey seer and use blood angels red contrast all over them.
Then I'd pick out some raised areas with some wild rider red - that should give you 3 distinct tones on the skin
Hope that helps!
Thanks for the checkers mate, lots of “f’s” and “c’s” before.
Just ordered him, going to be a ball painting
Enjoy!
looks pretty awesome!
Thank you Xavier!
He's Goff so this is pretty spot on
Thanks for the comment Dave!
Hi Coach! I went too much ham on my model with Tamiya ts80 flat clear spray and it killed all the metallic shine.. what can I do to bring shine feel back besides painting it all over again? Or should I just do few bits of metallic touches & highlights to give impression of shine? Thanks!
You either try a.satin varnish oher the metals.or do like you sais ajd add some more.highlights.👍🏻
Great stuff. Love this model but would never be able to do it justice haha!
Liked and shared.
Thanks! I appreciate then comment! Hopefully the video will help!
@@ThePaintingCoach No, no. Thank you!
Shared in an Ork fan group and on my Japanese twitter so hopefully it'll get you some deserved attention.
Love the videos sir. Great work.
Thanks Ciaran - I'm glad you enjoy them!
So I bought a few of the Vellejo metal colours. I don’t own an airbrush. Would it be ok to still spray can prime black and then just brush another base coat on all the metal parts with a large brush instead of Leadbelcher spray can? Or would a spray of the Leadbelcher can on the metal parts be better than the black even tho I’ll paint over with the Velho metal? I have a bit of Leadbelcher spray left. Been wondering if I still need to use it anymore or just stick to black from now on.
I'd use metal color over the black - I paint all my metal bases using dark aluminium and a brush
@@ThePaintingCoach you do that after the black primer? Would you say then after priming black that I brush the main metal that I want to use for the metal parts or choose a darker metal from my selection? I managed to get 8 different metals and only one of those is copper. Rest is just varieties of ‘silver’ metals in that vellejo metal color range.
Pick one you like - I prefer dark aluminium over black
@@ThePaintingCoach Ok I have that one too! Gotta try them all out over Christmas
Thanks this really helped me.
Awesome - really glad it did!
My Darkreaper highlight seems to have come out much lighter, any suggestions? My thought process is I probably didn't shake the pot enough or perhaps I need to pair it down slightly with a touch of black or could I get away with a dark wash over it to tone it down perhaps.
Yeah you can probably tone it down with a dark wash - i'd finish the highlight first though with the other colours and knock it all back together for consistency - if you have black templar contrast thin that a bit and use it - or really thin some abaddon black (make sure you don't have too much on your brush). Use nuln oil as a last resort as it might look patchy
@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you so much, I went with the Black Templar contrast thinned slightly and it's dialed everything back a bit and pulled the highlights together thank you :) I may add a few more tiny fenrisian grey spot highlights but this advise was perfect thank you! :D
Awesome - thanks for letting me know!
Beautiful
Cheers
Hey PC, thanks so much for this video! I am currently working through it with my Ghaz model. Regarding the drybrush, I don’t have any Necron compound but are there any other colours which might work? Maybe a grey or silver? Cheers
Any silver that's lighter than the base coat will work 👍🏻
Just treated myself to this model and love your video and happily subscribed. Have a question though, I'm painting my orks in the deathskulls theme but not sure how I can put this into the model or of I should stick with how you did it
Cheers - you could maybe add some iconography onto the power claw?
@@ThePaintingCoach I have no clue what you mean sorry, I've just begun this wonderful hobby, think I've jumped too far haha
No problem haha! Welcome to the hobby! You could maybe change some of the colours to match the death skulls scheme
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks :) I'll have to look into that thank you
Love the vid had to lol at the scooter guy on his 1000cc ha ha ha.
Thanks for the comment - glad you enjoyed the vid! Scooters gonna scoot!
@@ThePaintingCoach true it was good to see how you done the checks and then only partly shaded the claw 👍👍
Cheers! I'm not sure if I did enough on it so if you have any questions please feel free to ask!
@@ThePaintingCoach I will do but I find less is more. The more mistake I make and fix the better I get
I love your videos so so much👍🏻
Thanks Anton - appreciate it!
What base coat did you use for the horns before applying the Agrax shade
Good question - I have a feeling it may have been wraithbone, but it's been a while!
Not sure if I missed it but what colors was the loin cloth done in?
Hi Tyler thanks for the comment! I did the loin cloth the same as the claw housing - mephiston base, shade nuln oil, put mephiston back then highlight evil sunz
@@ThePaintingCoach Awesome, thanks! Great painting, great waaagh! Awesome job!
Thank you!
Hey I'm new to the hobby and was just wondering the pros and cons of contrast paint as I was watching ur death guard video and was wondering which one is better for painting in general and which looks better
Hi Robert - thanks for the comment! In general I think traditional paints give a bettef result, although contrast are also great in the right context! Since their release I think I use them on every tutorial I do in some form or other
That said you can get great results with contrast - the Death Guard is a goof example, as is my ork tutorial - I'd say contrast is best on organic items such as flesh, or cloth.
Contrast isn't great on Spqce Marines or vehicles.
As for which one looks best, that's entirely up to you ajd your opinion! I hope this has helped - feel free to ask any Q's - welcome to the hobby!
What material did you use on that used up paint pot to keep the backpipes steady and on top of it? Blu Tack?
Thanks for the comment Taylor - you're correct, it's blu-tac!
Hi buddy, really like your work 👍 I am currently following what your doing and I'v just come to stop as I dont have any dark reaper and was wondering if any other colour would be a good substitute.
Thanks
Thanks Phil - I appreciate it - you could use Incubi Darkness or mix a little black with thunderhawk blue - hope that helps!
Good call I'll use that, thank you mate 👍👍
Could you use this to paint regular goffs?
I don't see why not! You might want to leave off some highlights for the grunts though!
@@ThePaintingCoach yes especially when you have 80 boys to paint. I'm still choosing armies to start and I'm tied between necrons and orks and then your videos popped up 😊
I was like, hmm this looks like the box art il give this a watch
Awesome - check out my contrast paint tutorial for orks - and my necron ones haha - might help you pick!
Dam it now I (An IG player) want one. Dam your amazing skills. HERESY I SAY.
Seriously though, amazing job, I subbed
Haha thank you! It's a great model! I too have a tank company!
Do what I did...have both:D your local store owner will love you, while you go through boxes of Guard *and* Orks
Awesome!!!, tried finding this figure online but didnt get any hits looking by name, any chance you can tell me what series of 40K is he in?, or maybe even a link?.... Thanks a million
Thanks Juan - he is currently only available via the Prophecy of the Wolf box set which I'm not sure is available any more!
Found it with the Prophesy box set!!! 👊🏻🙂
Sweet!
Hey! Great guide on painting this big guy!! I was wondering would you painting normal ork boys/nobs/Gretchins skin the same as Ghaz? (Paint wise not as much details)
Thanks for the comment! I've got this video for those ladz
ruclips.net/video/dkGFD5tF_gQ/видео.html
@@ThePaintingCoach Those look amazing! Thanks!
No problem!
What other color I should use for the highligths of the body if I dont have Dark reaper?
What greys or blue grey colours do have?
Hi, absolutely amazing video! I was just wondering what your thoughts were on the black high lights, would Eshin grey and Dawnstone do the same trick as the dark reaper and Thunderhawk Blue? Don't want to go out and buy those two when I have the other! (Sorry for another question)
Hi Brad - no problem at all - yeah they will work - you'll get a more neutral black than the colder looking one from using the blues!
@@ThePaintingCoach that makes a lot of sense! Thanks for the fast reply. Loving the videos by the way
No problem - and thank you! I appreciate it!!!
Great video and Great model! Thank you!
Could I ask you what do you use for the base? It Is stirland battlemire?
Thanks for the comment and the feedback!
It's agrellan badland on the base - everything was washed with agrax earthshade and then drybrushed with karak stone
@@ThePaintingCoach thank you!
Is that a warm light source you have in the background? If so, how do you feel about painting under it?
Thanks for the comment! Do you mean my painting light? It's a daylight bulb and does get a little hot, but in general it's ok!
I got all the paints according to game workshop classic parade scheme, will that be a problem? It almost doesn't mention any of the colors in the description like example the necron compound.
Some of them will be the same, some won't - everything I used is listed in the description and at the start of the video 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks for the reply. I'm only starting this now so any advice is appreciated .
No problem - just use similar colours etc and enjoy the process of doing it
@ThePaintingCoach How did you get under his arms to paint his skin-tone?
Carefully with a small brush and by moving the model upside down in some cases
@@ThePaintingCoach you managed to reach his shoulders too?!
It was a long time ago 🤣 generally if you can see it, you can paint it - even if it means doing that first and painting over any spillages
@@ThePaintingCoach gotta! This’ll be my first model to do n start collecting Orks They’re dumb, fun , and random compare to the other factions especially space marines boring lol
If you haven't built it yet, leave the arms off and glue them on after painting is complete
Hi, did you do something special with the Power Claw or just like the other metal parts? Awesome job :)
Hi Michael - thanks for the feedback! Nothing special on the claw - all done as you see in the video! If you wanted to puah it you could highlight it with some chrome or storm host silver though!
Thanks for the quick reply:)
No problem!
Perfect !
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it
How’d you paint the base? What he’s standing on? I’m trying to start him and am having trouble with the colors
Thanks for the comment Dave! Ok here goes
Metal bits done the same as the mode
Stone: dawnstone
Rubble: mechanicus standard grey
The rest of the base i covered in Agrellan Badland technical paint
Washed everything with agrax earthshade
Drybrushed everything with karak stone
Hope that helps!
Thanks I’ll check it out, my orks are based off Martian ironcrust, wanna do a red Mars planet theme, ideas?
Depends if you want the building rubble to contrast? If you do you could go for a dark green maybe?
No, I wanna do a red, like mars on the base, I can send you a pic or video
Ah i got you - then you wanna use some of the more muted reds, like wazdakka red, agrax wash then maybe a dry brush of squig orange
This is incredible well done!
Before I start painting mine, all the parts you have done red, would you think its acceptable to paint them yellow? As my ork army in bad moons. Or nah?
Hey thanks for leaving the comment! I'd say your army, your rules - paint him however you like! Will be good to see a different take!
