R2D2 is old as shit. Like, before, kinda during the Old Republic era. -not sure how old, but R2 is old, and extremely P.I.M.P'ed out, with all sorts of capabilities. Including, his memory banks have 'Never' been erased. -And according to, George Lucas. We are experiencing the story through R2's point of view. Which is why he's been involved in every film.
Midichlorians aren't the Force itself. Simply how a person *CONNECTS* to the Force, as Qui-Gon explains to Anakin. The more midichlorians you have, the more Force you can channel, and the more powerful you are.
I'd argue against the use of Jedi and Sith, on the grounds that they are essentially personal philosophies. What makes a 'decent Jedi' for one Master could be completely different for another, based on their individual standards of 'decent.' My statement was intended as a general trend, much like the general assertion than men usually have greater upper body strength than women due to sexual dimorphism. Obviously there are likely to be exceptions in such a huge pool of individuals.
+Kartissa True enough. I should've worded it better. What I meant to say was, even with a relatively low midichlorian count, one could become a powerful or at least formidable force user. But yes, I see what your statements meaning was
watching the clip with qui-gon findin jar jar again, i really have to wonder: if the repulsor field generated by the droid transporter is strong enough to lift the weight of several hundred tons (i asume the aat would be that heavy) how is it possible that both qui-gon and jar jar are not squached flat as a pizza when it fies over them? the pressure produced to lift the craft up should be more than enough to transform them into jelly.
Well actually the transport uses dianogah semen to power it’s thrusters and we all know that both Gungans and Jedi are immune to all forms of pressurized semen.. 🤦♂️
+Connor Wood Retconned is the wrong word, since that implies that the original intention was to follow the Darth Jar Jar theory. The TVTropes phrasing would be Jossed, meaning a fan theory proven wrong by official material.
GriffinPilgrim But it WAS intended to be a part of the trilogy. I remeber seeing or reading somewhere that Georgie boy wanted to give a more meaningful role to Jar Jar, making him force sensitive to some degree, but after the backlash of Episode I he indeed retconed the idea.
don't know if it was already addressed, but, the reason i can come up with why Maul was able to beat Qui Gon, was because Qui Gon is more of a Force user, hence the use of the green lightsaber. Green lightsaber wielders focus more on the force while the blue lightsaber jedi focus more on combat Im pretty sure Maul was a skilled fighter, i mean... look at those fucken flips and just look at his saber... it pretty much says, "i fight, yo" lol but yeah, if this is some what spot on, Qui Gon losing is justified, i think :)
Plus sometimes one good or even lucky hit can win a fight, regardless of the objective skill of the fighters. Boba Fett's probably a better fighter than Han Solo on an objective level but Han got on lucky strike.
I personally think Fett being killed by smacking came from the same pit of ideas as ewoks. I mean getting knocked off because a pole hit his backpack/A bunch of man-eating teddy bears winning against a galaxy spanning empire using rocks and wooden weapons. .
+Earface4 I'm with you on Fett, a more badass death would have been better, but the Ewoks don't bother me. Ignore their looks for a moment and consider; they know the terrain and have the time and effort to set up traps and ambushes. They're the Vietcong. Worse equipped but fighting in their own element. If they were a tad less fuzzy I don't think people would complain.
I really enjoyed this movie when it came out. I wasn’t a big fan of Jar Jar either, but he didn’t annoy me bad enough to ruin the movie. This is the kind of movie I could have on in the background or something and enjoy it
The midiclorians are what gives the force wielder the ability to use the force all around. they don't produce the force themselves. I didn't thin it was that hard to get.
Hey, Decker! Congrats on hitting 50k subs! Some of us, Gayrai in particular, have been watching you for some time now, and are glad to see that your channel is growing at it's current rate. Keep up the great work!
The number one problem was introducing an actor too young to play Anakin later on the production schedule they had. No one was going to buy a cute little guy like that as becoming Vader. Hell, he's a secondary character in the film. In the second film, they had to introduce an older Anakin along with a new actor. In an elevator! Just an elevator.
Jar Jar Binks sabotaged the hyperdrive during the Trade federation blockade Attack because it was never shot that was the shield generator. The hyperdrive was never shot it was sabotaged in the inside by Jar Jar Binks during the attack. R2 bumps Jar Jar “How Rude!”.
I personally don't blame Jake Lloyd's portrayal of Anakin in this movie, it's mainly the script and the direction from Lucas. Lloyd's life took a serious dark turn later on if you know what happened with him
A lot of people say Qui-Gon is the main character in this movie but I would argue it's actually Padme the conflict revolves around her and her planet and she has a direct outcome in the conflict resolution I don't know just how I see it.
midi-chloridians specifically affect the initial connection to the living force the force as a whole is connected to solely through meditation and understanding Jedi are the only ones who have ever considered midi-chloridians the main aspect of force usage. Ancient sith had a much deeper understanding that revolved around the true force rather than midi-chloridians which are only helpful for the initial link. It's also why the technique to kill them isn't the same as WALL OF LIGHT which is a force technique specifically to cut your connection to the force
Wald isn't the Rodian Anakin is beating up (they should've kept that just to show Anakin as something other an an altruist angel) in the deleted scene. Take another look and you'll see the suits Wald and Greedo are wearing are pretty different looking. They're both Rodians so yeah, alien, hard to tell differences, but they're there.
This movie isn't THAT great, compared to other Star Wars movies, but I saw it in theaters with my dad when I think I was 6 or 7? So its nostalgia hits close to home for me!
I feel the same way. Personally I find the film to be mediocre. However I am very nostalgic for its world and visuals as I was a kid when it first came out as well.
Just occurred to me. Sabulba was being nice to Anakin. He seemingly only sabotages Anakin's pod. And seemingly only to not start. Sabulba had no reason to believe that Anakin would be more competition than the other racers. Anakin admitted himself that he had never finished a race before, much less won any, so Sabulba's only motivation would seem to be keeping the child out of the dangerous race, wherein he was quite prepared to use deadly force against the other racers. He may have changed his mind later, but, his original actions only make sense as a way to protect the annoying little human.
On the subject of Jake Loyd, i'd say the directing is even more important for child actor than an adult actor, i personally really don't blame Loyd at all, it's all on Lucas for not being very good dialogue writer and really bad at directing children
Best part of this movie for me was as I was walking out in the parking lot I saw a guy dressed up as a Jedi, he was hugging his lightsaber and kept repeating to himself saying "it was good, it was good, it was good". I just laughed.
Also few things, regular battle droids are actually cheap as fuck to make like less than 1000 credits each, Qui gon doesnt have much experience compared to Maul as Maul has actually killed quite a few people including jedi and wanna be sith, and reason he died is just always being full of himself in battle especially when he thinks he is winning, always his weakness
sufian abuahmad Yes but none of that is in the movie. He is reviewing the film as a stand alone film, not as part of a massive multimedia franchise that retcons things after the fact...
Even taking it as a stand alone film, Darth Maul looks a better fighter than Qui-Gon, since he faces off against TWO co-ordinated opponents with no apparent effort.
Gotta point out....no Maul did not kill other Jedi or sith before this. Even in the expanded universe, this was his first real chance at killing a Jedi as he was trained to stay in the shadows...being part of sidious's' plans. If he had shown himself before, the Jedi would have know there was a sith around. Especially if random Jedi kept showing up dead with mysterious lightsaber wounds. Maul was trained to be a ruthless assassin. Operative term being "assassin." He is one of my favorite sith, so I'm definitely not saying this to shit on him. He has done a lot of cool things, and his backstory was great; being taken from his home at a very young age and forced into training under Sidious, who would visit his apprentice sparingly, knowing that Maul would only be a temporary apprentice. Keeping him from the outside world helped mold Maul into a vicious, yet efficient duelist, but his lack of experience against real Jedi was the reason he fell. He was cocky after killing one, and wanting to enjoy the misery of Obi-Wan as he was hanging on. Pride came before the fall, as with many warriors.
And Qui-gon was less experienced? I'm not sure you're using the right word there. He was trained by Dooku...who next to Mace Windu was known as the strongest duelist in the entire Jedi order. Qui-gon was just getting older and more pacifistic. He also uses soresu (I believe) which stands no chance against juyo (whom Maul was proficient in) Btw these are forms of lightsaber combat. Obi-Wan was a more well rounded duelist, hence him being a Jedi guardian and qui gon being a consular. But just because obi wan was more specifically trained to duel, quigon wasn't a bitch lol. He was simply older and couldn't respond to attacks like he used to.
I always thought that battle droids were so easy to kill cause they were cheaply made. Like you see so many of them throughout the trilogy and clone wars series. They gotta be pretty cheap to make such a huge army
Everything is supposed to be easy to kill for a Jedi Knight. The Stormtroopers are not supposed to be the worst troopers. It's that Luke and Han are badass. Kind of like on Star Trek when morph is always getting his ass kicked. Not supposed to be that morph is weak. It's their face in a really strong adversary.
After watching Episode 1, I couldn't help but to wonder why Darth Vader never, EVER mentioned Yoda. It was as if the guy never even existed. He always assumed that Obi-Wan was teaching Luke. But we never find out why that was the case.
Not gonna lie, I love this movie. The reason why is because I grew up on the prequels. And I loved Darth Maul because of his appearance. He was such a cool looking character. The main reason why Gui-Gon died was because of his favorite form of lightsaber combat: Form 4, Ataru. Qui-Gon was old, and his form tired him out to the point where he was easily killed. Thats why Obi-Wan changed to form 3, Surosu after seeing his master die.
The only real problem with The Phantom Menace, is probably Jar Jar, he's rather obnoxious( but the other characters do actually make a point of him being rather useless, so it's not like it isn't intentional. Jar Jar is supposed to be an idiot, he is a comic relief character. The problem is that Lucas is not a good writer, or director, he just has some interesting ideas, he really needed someone keeping him on a creative leash while making these movies, someone to tell him when his bad ideas are Bad). I liked the kid as Anikin, he's way better than Christianson. But one of the problems is just awkward dialogue. People complain about the politics, but that was fine. This movie takes place before the Empire. So Of Course there is going to be politics involved in a change of power. Especially when you're telling a story about the fall of a Republic into a Dictatorship.

In this movie the trend start... Qi Gon manages to introduce the Jedi mindtrick, but later fail doing it on Watto, after this every mind trick is failing... Except Obi Wan who actually have a 100% success rate! Every one else trying it fail.
Until Rey of course, she have a 100% success rate at... everything!
You know, the first few times I saw this, Portman's acting was so flat that when she revealed that she was the queen, I thought she was bluffing
Actually you don't have to move to use the force. It's just that moving makes it easier to imagine or something.
I actually liked the Phantom Menace. Yes, I'm a Prequel lover, yes, I was born in the mid 90's, and yes, Obi Wan was my hero instead of Luke.
I've seen a fan theory that says jar- jar is a sith master pulling all the strings. You can find it on youtube, it's well worth a watch 🤘🍻🤘
19:28 - 19:32: You know that's not Samuel L. Jackson in the shot, right?
Question. They had to swim underwater to get to the city right, well shouldn't their clothes still be wet?
Could argue the bubble shield does it.
So, the Gungans basically killed droids by blue-balling them..........................
Your being awfully kind towards this movie Decker lol
to be fair, it's still better than attack of the clones.
it's really hard for me not to get angry at prequel haters
Midichlorians aren't the Force itself. Simply how a person *CONNECTS* to the Force, as Qui-Gon explains to Anakin. The more midichlorians you have, the more Force you can channel, and the more powerful you are.
Even with a small amount of midichlorians, with training, you could become a decent Jedi. Or Sith for that matter.
But yes, I see what your statements meaning was
By today's standards, the special effects may look dated at times, but keep in mind how revolutionary some of this was for 1999.
By today's standards Jurassic Park still looks great and that was revolutionary. TPM still aged like milk and being revolutionary doesn't excuse that.
watching the clip with qui-gon findin jar jar again, i really have to wonder: if the repulsor field generated by the droid transporter is strong enough to lift the weight of several hundred tons (i asume the aat would be that heavy) how is it possible that both qui-gon and jar jar are not squached flat as a pizza when it fies over them? the pressure produced to lift the craft up should be more than enough to transform them into jelly.
Mate its the prequel trilogy, they threw all logic out the window for these movies
overload81 Because Goongas.
Depends how the technology works really.
Cody Garth, You realise logic doesnt exactly apply to Star Wars in general not just the prequels
Well actually the transport uses dianogah semen to power it’s thrusters and we all know that both Gungans and Jedi are immune to all forms of pressurized semen.. 🤦♂️
This Video came out on my Birthday. I see this as a present. Thanks, Decker!
Episode 1 was the worst, but I actually really like Episode 3...mostly since the Clone Wars show since it made everything seem better
Oh come oh phantom menace was not that bad especially compared to the Star Wars sequels
Oh The Phantom Menace and the entire prequel trilogy. I remember going to the theater and seeing these being angered at what I saw.
watch last Jedi are you happy now
I really like your videos, but you skipped over the Ewok movies. You covered the Holiday Special so I thought you might cover them too.
The Darth Jar Jar theory completely rescues this movie.
That whole thing is just silly.
yshwgth Except thats been proven wrong!
That theory is retconed given that they revealed what happened to him in the end.
Green lightsaber wielders focus more on the force while the blue lightsaber jedi focus more on combat
Im pretty sure Maul was a skilled fighter, i mean... look at those fucken flips and just look at his saber... it pretty much says, "i fight, yo" lol
but yeah, if this is some what spot on, Qui Gon losing is justified, i think :)
Also Qui Gon was friggin exhausted. They're Jedi, but the Force cant prevent exhaustion.
PhobisProductions Yes, it can...to an extent anyway.
The one playing the queens decoy is Keira Knightly
The ending to your review was funny as heck
8:37 My now favorite Decker quote.
I like Jar Jar, so that's 3 people now
I really enjoyed this movie when it came out.
Aurra Sing at 13:21 first time I've noticed her in this movie
No comment on the absolutely watertight Sith JarJar theory???
Jar Jar Binks sabotaged the hyperdrive during the Trade federation blockade Attack because it was never shot that was the shield generator. The hyperdrive was never shot it was sabotaged in the inside by Jar Jar Binks during the attack. R2 bumps Jar Jar “How Rude!”.
It binds us, penetrates us, caresses us... then falls asleep right away.
"Jake Lloyd got a terrible deal! Playing Anakin for George Lucas is the roughest job in Hollywood!" -H.C.
Actually Wald scolded Greedo after he got into a fight with Ani'! They're separate characters.
And the Jedi who supposedly protect justice and equality leave anikans mother as a slave
Lima Bravo he could only take one....🤦♂️🤦♂️
I always liked the prequels. I thought the pod racing part was way to long and I hate the gungans but I thought they were good
honestly i love episodes 3 and 2 because it started the legendary clone wars and the fall of the jedi
Yup cut off the wings. Love it!
5:16
still can't believe the guy on the right is Obi Wan Kenobi
Nice to see a fair review of this film
About time we got into this, been missing your face making my screen look like 3D
I personally don't blame Jake Lloyd's portrayal of Anakin in this movie, it's mainly the script and the direction from Lucas. Lloyd's life took a serious dark turn later on if you know what happened with him
Still don't know why everyone hates the prequels I like them over the originals
@Decker hope we can see a review on SOLO, the Last Jedi and rise of Skywalker
A lot of people say Qui-Gon is the main character in this movie but I would argue it's actually Padme the conflict revolves around her and her planet and she has a direct outcome in the conflict resolution I don't know just how I see it.
midi-chloridians specifically affect the initial connection to the living force
the force as a whole is connected to solely through meditation and understanding
Jedi are the only ones who have ever considered midi-chloridians the main aspect of force usage.
"Hard to care about Maul"
And yet, we love him!
Insert Weird Al - The Saga Begins song.
Honestly I'm disappointed you didn't review the Ewok spinoffs first, especially considering you bothered with that Holiday Special shit. XD
Huh, Decker was the first reviewer not to comment on the Neimoidian’s accent’s. That’s a first for Phantom Menace reviews
Even taking it as a stand alone film, Darth Maul looks a better fighter than Qui-Gon, since he faces off against TWO co-ordinated opponents with no apparent effort.
sufian abuahmad if battle droids are cheap how come the galactic republic doesn't have?
Vader dedced it from Luke's fighting style.
Darth Maul managed to actually kill Liam Neeson. You've gotta give him credit for that!
All hail Darth Binks
Not gonna lie, I love this movie. The reason why is because I grew up on the prequels. And I loved Darth Maul because of his appearance. He was such a cool looking character. The main reason why Gui-Gon died was because of his favorite form of lightsaber combat: Form 4, Ataru. Qui-Gon was old, and his form tired him out to the point where he was easily killed. Thats why Obi-Wan changed to form 3, Surosu after seeing his master die.
U GLORIOUS MAN! =D
PLEASE KEEP DOING THIS I LOVE UR CHANNEL!
Wish u THE BEST!
And remember: UR GREAT! =D
Greetings from an old dude in Seattle. I love watching your reviews. Thanks for putting the Rageaholic in your liked videos, I checked him out and he also makes awesome videos. I know you get tons of requests, so here is my wish list of movies you could review.
1) Pet Cemetery
2) Parents (1989 with Randy Quaid)
3) Arachnophobia
4) Near Dark
Thanks for the great videos and keep it up.
Fun fact darth maul never blinked in the entire movie only once when he was cut in half
