I'm a hardcore action genre fan, and even I think Commando isn't an Oscar worthy film. It is entertaining though, and watching Arnold Schwarzenegger kick some ass, is always better than watching Steven Seagal on his best day.
My gripe with this moviefilm is the incompetent weapon handling. Still better than the gunplay in a Fulci film, though. And I'm generally a fan of Fulci films.
If you were really a hardcore action movie fan you would have found Commando to be Flawless and worthy of many Oscars including best special effects and best practical effects
Gotta agree with you there. I mean, Steven Seagal can be fun to watch...at times. However: When's the last time he had a hit movie? I mean...you know: Something that didn't go right down the toilet, as it relates to anything really relevant...and that did well at the Box Office, without falling over the nearest "Cliff"...so to speak? For my money, it's Arnold Schwarzenegger, every time! At least he still knows how to get things done, whether it's his character in a movie, or drawing in money at the Box Office!
or maybe Predator is the prequel to Commando since the behind the scenes of Predator say it takes place in Val Verde which is mentioned in Commando. look it up it's some cool trivia.
@@dylankaiser5546 but in Commando Matrix's team were still alive and given new identities. Also, either Decker or Nostalgia Critic mentioned that "Matrix" sounds like a fake last name. It's more likely that Matrix came out of retirement, dropped his new identity, formed a new group, but insisted that they be a rescue unit and not take any Search & Destroy missions. I like the idea that Cooke was Mac's evil twin brother. Another theory I have is Bill Paxton's radar operator in Commando quits the service and becomes a police officer in Predator 2, and that Hudson in Aliens is his descendant. Explains why the same actor is in all three movies, which evidently share the same cinematic universe.
I heard that Arnold tricked Sly into playing in "Stop, or My Mom will Shoot". Sly thought Arnold was going to be cast in the movie, so Sly grabbed the role fast. Arnold tricked him into playing in that movie, lol.
7:24 Not only that (jumping from that height into shallow water), but those swamp reeds look stiff enough to have punctured him if he were to land straight down on them from that height.
Alas poor final boss, you are remembered. Not as a fool killed by Arnold but as a Power Ranger Big Bad. Commando is just great film to eat Popcorn too or Riff. Maybe both at the same time.
I actually love this movie, tbh. It's not high class, but it's quality mac'n'cheese comfort food. The Girl does scream but is otherwise useful and adaptible instead of just being a sexy coat rack, the daughter has a personality and half saves herself instead of being a glorified MacGuffin, the one liners are cheesie but memorable, the action is hilarious. It's legit my favourite non-serious Arnold movie.
I just watched commando a couple weeks ago. What a treasure. My two favorite parts are when he just kind of flicks his wrist and rips a padlocked thick chain off a gate and also when he shoves the steam pipe into the guy and says "you need to let off some steam". Commando is perfect turn your brain off cheese. Along with bloodsport it's the best of cheese
I was hoping you'd comment about what exactly the lady was doing behind the guy in that hotel room they smashed through during their fight. I remember being a kid and seeing that scene and just being confused and I turned to my dad and went "But, you told me it was the OTHER way around?" and he responded with "Just watch the killing boy."
20:00 Die hard was going to be the commando sequel but Arnold didn't like sequels after conan 2 came out. So John Mclein was supposed to be john matrix.
Decker, Your channel and your reviews are top notch, your quips between edits are 1st class. I really hope your channel goes from strength to strength. Absolutely fantastic channel. Keep up the amazing work mate.
You could have at least mentioned Sully had a nice visible wire on his leg at 11:08 and the nice lifting platforms visible at 17:33 who throws the two guys in the air.
15:08 "It's Schwarzenegger with Seagal powers, I'm sure he can just stand on the wings of the airplane like Sonic and just punch the shots away" Oh God I'm dying. XD
If you've never found anyone who this movie really speaks to, you've not spoken to people who grew up in Puerto Rico during the 80's. This movie was huge over here during that time and well into the mid 90's, and it played on tv far more often than any movie back then.
Fun fact, the country they try to send Arnie to is called Val Verde (fictional country) this is also the same country that Predator is set in AND the drug lord from Die Hard 2 is originally from
Does David Patrick Kelly's presence in this movie make anyone else want to see John Matrix and The Warriors team up to stop a futuristic Jack the Ripper played by Christopher Walken?
Bennett's boat blowing up was actually supposed to be part of the "plot". He was faking his own death, I suppose, to cover for the fact that he was behind the bad guys killing off Matrix's unit.
The assassinations of the other members of Matrix's old team aren't meant to be low-key, they're meant to be noticed so his old commander will make contact with Matrix and inadvertently give away his secret location.
"I eat green berets for breakfast" and "Mac, cut them down! I knew these men, green Berets out of fort bragg" in Predator (talking about the skinned soldiers hanging upside down) were all stabs at Rambo (Stallone) Green Beret from Bragg. They had a known rivalry in the 80's and 90's.
Never bothered by the unrealism of this movie because it never acted as if it wants to be taken as a realistic movie, it's more of a dark comedy and it delivered plenty laughs and black humor. And hey, at least the action sceens are well filmed and edited, unlike most action films nowadays. Also I still can't believe Bennet and Wez from "The Road Warrior" are played by the same actor.
Decker, and basically everyone else, you might want to know that there is a 2008 russian remake of Commando called D day. Trying to search for it's trailer in english will only give you trailers for documentaries, so just put "День Д трейлер" in youtubes search bar. On the side note, the actor that played Arnolds character in the remake was also the voice of Borat in russian dub of the movie.
thanks a lot i searched День Д трейлер and found a bunch of anti American Russian propaganda and now the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are knocking on my door .. fuck you man ..
To Decker While I know these are film reviews and this is fictional stuff, just have to say as a long time weapons man you seem to have a decent working knowledge of how firearms actually work, "finger on the trigger and everything". It is a good man who actually bothers to go out and learn about things instead of just talking out of his ego. Appreciate the laughs, but just as much your intelligence and positive attitude, ever have any real world firearms questions you'd like to know for a video's sake let me know. Best wishes. JT
A great example of Hollyweird realism and accuracy. Ahnold's guns contain far more bullets, he always picks up a loaded weapon, kills ALL the bad guys, none of which, in spite of their sheer number, hit Ahnold with even ONE bullet.....all I can say is "Chenny....make it to da choppah !" All I can say, Decker, is for your reviews....I'll be back !
Never actually watched any Steven Seagal movie, so I am unfamiliar with his "powers". Did see Executive Decision, but it was more of a Kurt Russell movie. Hell, it was more of a John Leguizamo movie than a Seagal movie.
15:40 - 15:55 a little bit too much. I mean it is not "End of Days". And did you consider the drinking-game aspects of the movie? Many "old" Stalon and Schwarzenegger Movies are greate for drinking-games, especially "Commando".
One of my top favorite movies since I was a kid. It has the best gear up scene ever. I hope hollywood doesn't remake this , last dragon, or big trouble in Little china.
You forgot to mention that Bennett is played by Vernon Wells, who played the leader of the Gay Boy Berserkers, Wez, in The Road Warrior. Yes, they were actually called the Gay Boy Berserkers.
Love this movie, mainly for the nostalgia factor. One thing I think you forgot to mention - one of the greatest continuity errors of all time! That Porsche! I remember even as a little kid, noticing the wrecked and rolled car had miraculously repaired itself in the next scene.
I'm a hardcore action genre fan, and even I think Commando isn't an Oscar worthy film. It is entertaining though, and watching Arnold Schwarzenegger kick some ass, is always better than watching Steven Seagal on his best day.

So what, Mac came back from the dead?

Nah Mac is just Cooke's twin brother who isnt an asshole

Arnold killing Max Biaggi is one of the greatest moments in movie history.
