This is one of the most incredible, elegant and overlooked songs ever done by Justin/John anywhere. Every time I play it for someone, the reaction is the same, WHERE DO YO GET THAT!!! The same can really be said for the entire album

The Moody Blues early lp's touched me in many ways. I'd often take 2 or 3 hits of LSD and listen to those early lp's because I knew they were saying remarkable and I just had to figure it out. I can remember looking out the window and down the street and see the beautiful traffic lights flashing words to me. God, was it remarkable and beautiful. And the Moody Blues took me to places I didn't know existed. At 71 years of age the Moody Blues/Blue Jays remain an inspiration to me. As I've said so many times, there have been 3 great influences in my life. 1. LSD 2. The Moody Blues 3. EST I am so happy to have been a part of that time.

Having been a kid DJ at an FM rock station in '76 (and later a semi-successful songwriter), I played/loved this like crazy! No one could dis their early works, but to me, this was Hayward/Lodge's swan song. Just beautiful! A semi-compilation of their very best work. Now having decades of music behind me, I'd love to remix this, as this was 1 great effort of the '70's (way too much delay & reverb), but a full-on classic! Anyone who got their message, is someone who now makes this world better!

I bought the vinyl album of "The Blue Jays" in 1975 or 1976, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
It was at Sears-Canada, or Simpsons-Sears.
I'm glad the lyrics are included with their album, AND the CD version of this album, also.
I'm glad "Blue Guitar" was included on the CD of "The Blue Jays". Great tune!

I saw the Moodies in concert maybe 4 or 5 times, and every time John Lodge looked like he was having a ball. He just loves to perform. Saw Justin Hayward by himself a couple of years ago. Still in voice. Some great new songs and new interpretations of some of the Moodies classics. What a rush.

I was at (in) Carnegie Hall for the world premiere of this album in 1975. My friend and I took the train up from Philly (Media, PA) to hear it. He got free tickets somehow. Here's a blurb about that event from Wikipedia:
"On 10 March 1975 Blue Jays made its debut in the form of a staged playback of the album at Carnegie Hall. Hayward and Lodge wanted to pipe the music into the street, but New York police said they feared a traffic jam."
I'll never forget it. Fell in love that day. With the music of Justin Hayward and John Lodge, that is.

@@chuckpadgettmusic I remember TM had the same feel to me as a MB song when Mike was in band. But now that i think about what U said RE what the instrument was maybe the mellotron pitch was lower and the pitch in TM is higher with the ARPSE.

    • @Viuomar

The Blue Jays album doesn´t need Octave songs, but would be fantastic if they had take a two year vacation and returned with a double album with the best of their solo tentatives. Yesterday I did a possible running order to this fictitious double album in my mind, but I still don´t know how to make a video with this song compilation..

I was in college, in Killjoys room, when he played Seventh Sojourn. I'd heard "Isn't Life Strange" on the radio. "Who is that?" I soon had the album and set out to get all the other Moodys- I just about had them all, when- CATASTROPHE! The Moody's have broken up! Anyway, I had this when it came out- and really solid- the whole album- played it as much as the others- This is a great orchestral album- I don't think I've heard it since CD's came out. know all the words though. Thanks for post

This is a Beauty on its own.
John and Justin are truly remarkable together.
The Moody Blues treatment, symphonic is much better than the solo effort with backup band.
They are a joke compared to the Moodies.

Brohand Leader The album was called Blue Jays, Justin and John are the two J’s from the Moody Blues and this album was their joint effort while the Moodies had temporarily split up. They were collectively and affectionately known as the Blue Jays but really It’s Justin Hayward and John Lodge from the Moody Blues, hope this helps.

    Exactly what?
    Driven by,
    Driving by.
Not spending the moment to be there, to
be kind. Hock yeah, to be considerate.
That is when you know all you did was 'survive', not really live.
Take the time to rest, and be kind.
    Change is gonna come.
(this tune is so much better with John Lodge, and Moodiesque treatment)
Going through the motions as solo, and no comment re: backup band.
Dawes is remarkable. Eye candy lady, K, is good on flute.
Butt, they sure as shit aren't the Moodies.

John's looks a lot better than crusty little S McQueen, who did not live too long, now, did he?
Maybe he lived his life better than someone stuck on Ali McGraw.
She is literally a stick figure, with depth of a yoghurt cup.
Mrs Lodge is adorable, and they look happy. Opposite of what this empty, saddened song implies.

I'm in the minority on this Blue Jays CD. I find it very disappointing. I realize music is subjective, but I wish Justin woulda colloborated with Pinder instead. Then in 1978 they released Octave. Another lemon. 3 years later they were back big time with Long Distance Voyager, a great album.

    • @dougreed2257
      @dougreed2257 5 лет назад

Nevermind that's you"re choice, don't think octave is a "lemon" though, & I love Ray, but on this occasion his songs were weak! If Mike had 2 more tracks on album like "one step into the light" it would not have been a "lemon"
